Hello, it’s Peter here and welcome to Friday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day is
going well and I hope you’ll be able to join me tonight on BBC One at 6.30pm.
I’ll have all the day’s news of course and Paul will have the forecast.

On tonight's programme, we'll be going inside a Hull school, which has been
raided by burglars for a third time. We've got the CCTV footage as police
continue hunting the offenders. More on that later.

We'll be talking to the men and women behind the post office counters. They are
fighting back after the government continue to scale back on local services.
I’ve had so many messages saying how much the elderly and those living in rural
areas rely on the local post offices, but it looks like things are about to
change. The government are saying we’re all finding new ways to do business,
like paying our road tax on the Internet or paying bills by direct debit. Well,
do you think that’s true? Are there jobs that you used to do at the post office
that you’re now doing somewhere else? Do you buy your stamps from a post office
or from a supermarket? Get in touch and let me know. Are you sad that they’re
closing? Are you losing a post office near you and how will that affect you?
Get in touch today with me on [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Also tonight, we'll be speaking to the emergency services as they open a
temporary Christmas hospital. This is not to help out our struggling local
hospitals, but is there to patch up festive drunks in Lincoln! I’ll have the
full story on that tonight.

Plus it's a far cry from Fawlty Towers - we'll be getting a tour around a
Cleethorpes B&B, which is run by the town's travel and tourism students. All
that tonight on BBC One at 6.30pm.

Pictures

If you’ve got a picture that you’re particularly proud of that you’d like us to
show on the programme, or if you’ve taken one that’s particularly festive, then
send it to me. You can email me at any time over Christmas at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Schedules

Well, TV bosses have been accused of cheap and lazy scheduling after it emerged
that more than a third of programmes this Christmas will be repeats. The number
of reruns on the main terrestrial channels between Christmas Eve and Boxing Day
will be up 42% on last year. They talk about that, but then a lot of programmes
that they show over Christmas are ones that we can’t get enough of. They moan
about repeats, but then some of these repeats are of programmes like Dad’s Army
and Porridge. When you go into the high street shops, the DVDs are selling, so
we must like them still. Comedy on DVDs are one of the biggest growth areas.
Last weekend, I bought a DVD of The Best of Frankie Howard and also Man About
The House. Now I wonder why I bought that? They were some of the series from
thirty years ago and they’re still wonderful.

Travel

Christmas seems to start earlier and earlier. Says me, who’s about to be on
holiday now!! But they’re saying in the papers today that the holiday chaos on
the roads and airports will start this weekend, as people try and get away
early for Christmas. Whatever you’re doing and whatever you’ve got planned for
Christmas and if you’re travelling, then stay safe.

Behind The Scenes

I’m asking for your contributions again! Is there something you’ve never seen
on Look North that you want to know more about? Have you ever passed a building
and thought, “I’d love to know what goes on in there?” Is there anywhere you’d
like to have a good nose around? We want your suggestions for a series of films
which will go out on Look North in January. So if you want to see parts of a
stately home, which are closed to the public or if you want to look behind the
scenes of someone’s job, then contact us here at Look North. Email me at [EMAIL
PROTECTED] and look out for your suggestions on the programme in the New Year!

Entertainment

The Comedy Awards were on TV the other night. I thoroughly enjoyed the
programme. It’s great that Stephen Merchant got an award for his role in
Extras. There were several emails in complaining about some of the language
though. It did start after nine o’clock and there was a warning beforehand, but
the programme hadn’t been going very long before the guests starting swearing!
And it was the first time this year that the Award ceremony had no time
constraints! Normally the host Jonathan Ross has to hurry the event along as
they run out of time on their slot on ITV. Well, this year was different. They
had all the time in the world for the winners’ acceptance speeches. Once the
programme finished on ITV, then the overspill moved onto ITV2 so that the live
ceremony could continue without interruption!

While I think about it, good luck to the cast of both the Radio Humberside
pantomime and also the professional pantomimes in our region. They’re all now
in full swing. Radio Humberside’s pantomime opened on Wednesday and last night
was the opening of the pantomime in Hull with the Chuckle Brothers. There’s
some good entertainment lined up in the New Year as well. Chicago is coming to
the Grimsby Auditorium in January, so that should be good. And there are lots
of concerts next year. They’ve just been talking in the office about Jason
Donovan, who is playing in Grimsby in the Spring. If you’re looking forward to
something particular and you’ve wrapped up your tickets for a Christmas
present, then let me know and I hope you enjoy it.

And over the Christmas period, if you want to get in touch, then email me to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] And also, if you’re chatting with anyone and they’re not
signed up to the Levy Letter and you think they would like one, then point them
in the direction of either one of the two addresses at the bottom of the page.

Ant And Dec

I was talking about the Comedy Awards. They were there picking up yet another
award. Ant and Dec are poised to land the biggest ever deal in TV history. They
will face a ferocious bidding war when their TV contract comes up for renewal
next year. They are currently signed to ITV, doing such shows as I’m A
Celebrity, but the BBC wants to snaffle the Geordie boys. So stay tuned for
more information on that one! ITV are said to be considering upping their joint
incomes from £5million a year to £8million!

Well, that's it from me for today. Have a very good afternoon. Join me tonight
on BBC One at 6.30pm. As I say, it’s the last Levy Letter from me before
Christmas. I’m off on leave now for Christmas, so I wish you a very Happy
Christmas and an enjoyable New Year. I’ll be back with the Levy Letter on
Monday 2nd January.

Caroline Davies and Crispin Rolfe will be here on Look North from Monday. So
they’ll have all the local news for you over Christmas.

Happy Christmas!

Peter
