Hi there, it’s Caroline here. Feeling festive, are we? Mince pies are being
munched in the newsroom and now that the BBC pantomime has finished for 2006,
I’ve now got a little bit of time to buy and wrap some presents! If you’ve been
along to see us in the panto, then I hope you enjoyed yourself! Thanks for
coming and supporting us and for laughing at all the jokes! There are still two
performances left in January and tickets are still available if you want to
come and see us. It’s Dick Whittington this year. I’m playing the hero, Dick
and BBC Radio Humberside’s breakfast presenter, Andy Comfort is playing the
evil King Rat. There’s lots of thigh slapping and cheesy grins, so if you fancy
coming along to the last two performances of the panto in Hull on the 7th
January, then book your tickets on 01482 226655. And thanks for your wonderful
support so far. You’ve raised so much money for BBC Radio Humberside’s appeal –
Making Waves. So thank you!

There’s lots going on in the programme tonight. Crispin will be joining me on
the sofa and we'll be having a listen to the top ten of the most inappropriate
calls made to the ambulance service's emergency number. 999 calls are for
emergency calls only and yet it is still plagued by nuisance callers. We’ll be
listening to some of those tonight.

Also tonight, we’ll be talking to a dog sanctuary in Lincoln. They’re
overwhelmed this Christmas with abandoned dogs. I know this will touch the
heart strings of so many animal lovers in the region, but they desperately need
help this Christmas in re-homing an incredible thirty dogs or they say they may
have to put them down. I’ll have the full story tonight.

Plus we'll be speaking to the Hull climber, who was the bodyguard to the
American actor, Johnny Depp. Sounds very glamorous doesn’t it? And we'll be
taking a look at the car facing one of the toughest rallies in the world, but
which only cost £100!

You may have noticed the fog! It’s hard to miss really. Paul will be with us
tonight to give us more details about when this fog will be leaving us.
Apparently, it’s here to stay until Christmas. Well, it might be a white
Christmas of sorts then! But I saw this text message this morning from Lynda in
Hull. She says, “Could you please warn people to put on their headlights in
this foggy weather. The amount of cars that don’t is appalling!! This is the
third day of bad weather and some drivers have no sense at all.” Thanks for the
warning Lynda. And it’s true, isn’t it! And I always think that people on
bicycles need to be extremely brave to go out in this weather on the roads.
Even with those little lights on the back, it’s very difficult to see them.

Well, the warnings are out today as the great festive getaway begins. They say
that more than eighteen million vehicles will be on the move today, creating
the longest evening rush hour of the year. The roads will be full of families
travelling across the country to see loved ones and full of lorries making
those last minute deliveries in time for Christmas Day. And the fog isn’t
helping. British Airways has cancelled one hundred and eighty flights already
from Heathrow, which ruined Christmas holidays for thousands of travellers. So
if you’re travelling anywhere, stay safe and remember to leave enough time!

Yesterday on the programme, we had the story about how low burglars will stoop
over the festive period. We had CCTV footage of two criminals making off with a
Christmas tree, which belonged to a group of elderly people living in sheltered
accommodation. Well, we had a number of emails and calls from people feeling
quite incensed by this as you can imagine. And many of them have offered to
help. So I just wanted to say thank you to those people, who offered
replacement Christmas trees. There are lots of very generous people out there!

I noticed this lovely email in our inbox yesterday and thought I’d share it
with you. “Hello to everyone at Look North. Thank you for all the e-mails over
the year from the Levy Letters. I
enjoy reading them and the lots of interesting facts. May I take this chance to
wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy 2007. May you all have great
and safe festivities.” And that’s with lots of love from Lesley Harrison and
her family in Boston. So I don’t think there’s any more to say is there? That’s
all from me for today. I hope you can join me tonight for Look North. And as
Lesley says, stay safe today, especially on the roads in this bad weather.

See you tonight,

Caroline
