Hello, it's Peter here and welcome to Friday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day is
going well. Although, as news comes in of more and more problems related to
this dreadful weather we’re having, I suspect many of you may be having a
difficult day. If you’re out on the roads then stay safe. BBC Look North will
be on air tonight as usual at half past six. I hope you'll be able to join me.

Tonight, we'll have the full impact of the torrential rainfall in our region.
We'll be getting the latest as people are evacuated from their homes. Plus
we'll be taking a look at how this weather is affecting our roads.

Also tonight, I'll be finding out what the future holds for the troubled
football club, Boston United and we'll be taking to the skies as a famous
female pilot heads towards a new world record.

And the weather may be lousy, but spirits won't be dampened in Beverley this
weekend. I'll be chatting to one of the musical stars of this year's Beverley
Folk Festival. And he’s booked the wrong day to have a day off! The lovely Lisa
will be with us tonight to bring us the bad news about the weather, but I’m
sure she’ll let us know with a smile! That’s on BBC One at half past six.

Weather

Well, the weather forecast and the weather this morning has just been
horrendous. There’s been a lot of flooding and we’ll have comprehensive
coverage in our bulletins throughout the day. For up to date information in the
meantime, then make sure you tune into our radio stations. They’ll be on air
all through the day and will be letting you know the situation on our roads.
BBC Radio Humberside on 95.9FM, 1485AM and Radio Lincolnshire on 94.9FM and
1368AM.

And I found out this morning that the Lord Mayor’s Parade, which is always a
big day for Hull, has been cancelled. We’ll be finding out why a little bit
later on. Lots of schools are closed today due to flooding and there are many
transport problems on the roads. If you’ve got anything planned or organised
this weekend, then I hope it goes well. I know there’s the Race For Life in
Bridlington this weekend and also Appleby in Lincolnshire’s Country Fair as
well. The forecast luckily is a bit better on Sunday, so fingers crossed for
those events.

One event that Mr Taylor told me about is sure to go ahead whatever the
weather! It’s East Halton’s Model Railway Exhibition. The show is to raise
funds for their Village Hall. Mr Taylor told me that the building is 118 years
old and is in need of some restoration work. The event runs from Saturday to
Sunday this weekend. There’ll be lots of miniature railway tracks laid out in
the hall to have a look at and also there’s a park and ride service using a
1961 London Routemaster Red Doubledecker bus. That’ll be connecting with
Cleethorpes and Barton on Humber trains from Thornton Abbey station to East
Halton. So best of luck to Mr Taylor. I’m sure his indoor event will go very
well indeed!

And all the events this weekend, I hope they go very well indeed. As I say, the
forecast does look a lot better on Sunday. So take advantage of the break in
the gloomy weather and head off to Appleby’s Country Fair this Sunday. Lots of
events will be going on there. And if you’ve got an event you’d like a little
plug for, then let me know and I’ll put something into the Levy Letter for you.
It’s the usual address of [EMAIL PROTECTED] to get in touch with me.

Humber Bridge

Just a reminder that a week on Sunday is the Humber Half Marathon. Paul and I
will be there to start that one off. That’s a week on Sunday. I’m not running
it!!

Thanks for all the emails. Loads have come in this morning on the Humber Bridge
tolls. We were talking about it last night on the programme about the
possibility that there might be a toll free holiday for five years. It might
not actually be free of tolls, but they might drop them to about £1.00.
Understandably, there are a lot of people very keen to hear that news. So a big
response on that one. Thank you very much indeed. And a text came in from Jen
in Grimsby asking why don’t we set up a website for collecting signatures
against paying a toll to cross the bridge. Well, there’s a website already set
up for this and for many other petitions as well. You might find it
interesting. The web address is http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/ . Search on there
for petitions for the Humber Bridge tolls to be scrapped or even for the Red
Arrows to remain in Lincolnshire. There are lots of petitions on there that are
all collated and sent to the government. Take a look. And perhaps this gives!
us an opportunity to maybe share websites that we all enjoy. If there’s a
website that you use frequently use, maybe one where you find useful
information about local events or one that gives great tips on cooking.
Whatever the website, let me know and perhaps I can include it in the Levy
Letter with your recommendations. Let me know on [EMAIL PROTECTED]

If there’s a story that you think we should know about, then keep in touch with
us. Today especially, with all this bad weather, make sure you put Look North’s
number on speed dial in your telephone and let us know what’s happening in your
area. If you ever want to speak to our producer about an urgent news story,
then telephone 01482 314501. Or if you just want to chat with me about
something, then email me direct on [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Change

A few things are changing from Monday. One of which is that I will now be with
you every evening at 10.25pm on BBC One for the late Look North. That’s just
after the ten o’clock news, every night at 10.25pm as well as being with you
for Look North at half past six as usual. So join me for that if you can for
both of those. And there are a few changes to the Letter as well. It’ll be
shorter and more concise from Monday, but there’ll still be room to let you
know what’s happening on the programme that day and room for your comments as
well. And of course, I still want to know about events that are happening near
you, so there’ll still be space for those. There’ll be regular details in the
Letter still about special stories and news that I think you should know about.
So from Monday, it’s all change and there’ll be a new look Letter on Monday.

And if there’s anyone you know, who's not signed up to the Levy Letter, and you
think they would like one, then get them to go to our website. Click on Levy
Letter and tell them to sign up. Take a look at www.bbc.co.uk/looknorthhull.

Well, that's it from me for today. Have a very good weekend and stay safe if
you’re out and about on our region’s roads today with all this bad weather.

Join me on BBC One at half past six as usual.

Take care,

Peter
