Hello, it's Peter here and welcome to Thursday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day
is going well and I hope you'll be able to join me tonight on BBC One at half
past six as usual.

On tonight's programme, we'll be investigating claims that stale flood water,
left over from our recent bad weather, is making children in Hull ill. We’ll
find out what’s delaying the clean up operation in our region.

We'll be looking at the planning row that's dividing a town. East Lindsey
District Council claims it'll lose £50,000 a month as plans for a new swimming
pool is held up by protestors. We’ll get both sides of the row tonight on the
programme.

It’s the longest day of year today – bad news if you have trouble sleeping !
All day today BBC Radio Humberside are investigating the world of sleep.
Christine Barker from the Action Desk props her eyelids up and tries to stay
awake for twenty-four hours. Catch up with her throughout the day on Radio
Humberside on 95.9FM and see if she nods off at her desk. And there’ll be
sleeping tips for insomniacs, tried and tested bedtime stories and routines for
children and share in the joy of taking forty winks in an afternoon siesta. And
on Look North, we'll be finding out why people with sleep disorders aren't
getting the help they need in our region.

Also tonight on Look North, we'll be following the fortunes of local tennis
hero, Katie O'Brian from Hessle. She’s come a long way and is now ranked second
in Britain. We’ve been following her in her last major tournament before she
takes up the challenge of Wimbledon.

And we'll be live in Skegness tonight to watch the highs and lows of kite
surfing. It’s one of the fastest growing extreme sports, and today some of the
world's best kite-surfers are preparing to hit the waves in Skegness. That’s
all tonight on BBC One at half past six.

Emails

Thanks for all the emails recently. Yesterday I mentioned the new musical down
in the West End – the most expensive musical ever staged! And an email came in
promptly on that one – “Odd that you should mention the musical 'Lord of the
Rings' today. Did you know that the actor, who plays Gandalf, Malcolm Storry,
is from Kingston upon Hull. He went to Kingston High School - he was also in
the school orchestra (played double bass) when I also was in it and he had a
wicked sense of humour. A really nice person - and a good actor!” That email
comes in from Sarah. So thanks Sarah for that. I wasn’t aware that we had a
local star in that production. If you’re lucky enough to have got tickets to go
and see Lord of the Rings in London, then look out for him! And of course, get
in touch with me if you have been to see it and let me know what you think
about it. As usual it’s [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Starlight

I did mention the production of Starlight Express earlier in the week. It
seems, from talking to people and reading the emails that this show in Hull is
a huge hit with audiences. It’s a big West End show and it’s great to have it
here in the region. I did have tickets for last Saturday, but the show had to
be cancelled, because the theatre was flooded after those bad storms. I also
see that the Hull New Theatre have announced that Cannon and Ball are to return
this year in this year’s pantomime. They’re great live performers and were a
huge hit last time around. So plenty of notice for that production, but look
out for Cannon and Ball once again back in Hull for panto!

What’s On

With our new look Levy Letter, there’s plenty of room for plugs for events, so
keep them coming in. Here’s a note from Chris Lorimer – “Please ask Peter to
mention our Open Gardens on Sunday 24th June from 11am to 5.30pm. It’s at
Sigglesthorne, near Hornsea and al the proceeds go to St Lawrence Church. We’re
a small community and rely on word of mouth or folks like you!” So a plea there
from Chris to promote the Open Gardens in Sigglesthorne this Sunday. So pop
over and get some gardening tips! There’s not much point in my going – I don’t
think I need gardening tips for a pot plant on my windowsill!

And I’ve had a note to tell me that this year will be Ellerker’s third
Scarecrow Festival. They wanted a little plug, so here it is! It’s on the 21st
and 22nd of July. So watch out for that one!

That’s it for today. Have a very good afternoon. Although it’s sunny and warm
now, I thought it was supposed to rain again this afternoon. Perhaps an
umbrella might be useful if you’re out and about today. Join me tonight for
today’s Look North at half past six.

Take care,

Peter
