Hello, it’s Peter here and welcome to Thursday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day’s
going well and you’ll be able to join me tonight on Look North at half past six
as usual. We’ll be continuing our coverage of day four of the worst June Floods
to hit the region in living memory.

We'll be live in Hedon tonight as the town deals with water overcoming the
Burstwick drain. We’ll try to keep you up with latest developments.

We visit one of the worst affected areas at Wainfleet as efforts continue to
clean up the town, and we'll be with one blind man affected by the floods. So
many people are struggling to cope, and the situation is of course particularly
serious for the disabled.

And we're at Grantham as the army pay tribute to a young soldier killed on
exercise near Catterick.

There's shock sports news as Brazilian star footballer Juninho opens talks with
Hull City.

And we'll have the latest on the campaign to scrap Humber Bridge tolls, there’s
been a big debate on this one.

Plus why bird watchers are flocking to Digby Fen near Boston. That’s all coming
up on the programme tonight at 6.30, don’t miss that.

Well the forecast is for more rain this weekend, so I hope you’re prepared if
you think there’s any risk of flooding. We’ll have the latest weather on the
show today as usual. Of course the clear up is still going on throughout the
country, with our region hit particularly bad as we all know. Hopefully we can
get through this bad weather and on to the hot, hot summer that’s predicted
this year. I think we deserve a bit of sun after all this rain.

Wimbledon

Well just when we all thought he was getting to the end of the road, Tim Henman
is fighting back and looking like he might be keeping us on the edge of our
seat’s a bit longer than many expected. Fingers crossed as always, although he
does have a way of making the nation suffer, doesn’t he?

Of course there is a local girl taking part in the competition this year, and
hopefully for many years to come. Katie O’Brien from Hessle had to wait to play
her second round match at Wimbledon. Yesterday she was delayed by – yes you’ve
guessed it – rain. Well she’s playing today. I don’t want to predict a result,
but good luck to her.
Well what does Katie dream of spending her prize money on? Well it’s not a
flash car or expensive jewellery. If things go well for her this year she might
be spending her cash on a house in Hull! So that’s Katie O’Brien, she’s 21 and
ranked the best female tennis player in Britain, and she wants to stay around
in this area. Good for her.

Events

A quick plug here for the Lincolnshire branch of the Triumph Owners Motorcycle
Club. They call themselves the “Missing Lincs” and they’re hosting their first
Bike Night at The Ebrington Arms, Kirkby on Bain, Lincolnshire, near Woodhall
Spa, Monday July 2nd from 7pm. So go along if you’re into Triumph motorcycles.
There’s a barbecue and a bar, and “Missing Lincs” Chairman Chippy Wood says:
“We are hoping that we can play host to Lincolnshire’s bikers. Club members
have an interesting mix of Triumph Motorcycles that span the best part of sixty
years, from the early fifties to bang up to date 2007 machines.”
Make it along if you can.

Pictures

Thank you for all the pictures we’ve been receiving of the floods and water
recently. As I mentioned yesterday, we’re planning a special montage of some of
them at the end of the week, so don’t miss that, there have been some
remarkable images, and hopefully ones we won’t see repeated for a long time.
And as always, if you have any interesting stories or something you think we
should know about, you can drop me a line at [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Well that’s it from me for now. Join me a bit later for Look North at 6.30.
Hannah Moffat has the lunch time news today, that’s at 1.30.

Bye for now

Peter
