Hi there, it’s Peter here! Glad you could join me for the last Levy Letter of
the week.

There were many comments from you after last night’s programme. We were talking
about insurance and many of you were saying how angry you were that people, who
weren’t insured, may still get a handout to help repair their homes and
belongings after the floods. We’ll be continuing the debate tonight. I’ll have
some of your very heated comments on that and we'll be asking is it just a drop
in the ocean as the government confirms it's to give £2.1 million in emergency
aid to the flood victims. We'll be speaking to the leader of Hull City Council
and a mother of three children to find out their reaction to this payout.

Also tonight, they're hoping for a miracle as a four year old Scunthorpe boy
and his family travel all the way to China to undergo revolutionary stem cell
treatment.

And it's home at last as the Boston Pilgrims find a new manager. We'll be
asking whether or not he can save them from yet another relegation.

And we'll revisit the battle of Flamborough Head as two American diving teams
race to find the wreckage of an eighteenth century battle ship. We’ll be live
on the East Coast tonight. That’s all on BBC One at half past six.

Robots

Not sure what you’ll make to this story! I do like reading and using gadgets,
but perhaps this is taking it too far. ‘Rental humanoid robots’ are available
to hire now in Japan to work as receptionists in busy hospitals or offices.
These clever robots can have conversations with you and can book you in for
your appointment, all while singing a song to you. Sounds lovely? Is this what
you’d like in your doctor’s surgery? They currently cost £500 a day or £12,000
for a year, which this robot temping agency suggest is the same amount as a
receptionist’s salary. Despite what you think about having to deal with a robot
when you book yourself in at the hospital, it is amazing isn’t it that these
so-called clever robots can actually replace a human being now in the
workplace! Amazing, but slightly worrying perhaps?

Plug

As you know, I like to plug local events in the Levy Letter. A couple of events
for you to make a note about for this weekend. Tim Mickleburgh has emailed in
and asks – “Is there any chance that you could mention the Community Fun Day
that we are having tomorrow (Saturday) on Grimsby's Duke of York Gardens
between 2pm and 4.30pm? Activities include stalls, a bouncy castle, a fire
engine, live dance groups and numerous other facilities, all free of charge.”
And another one for the weekend. Dave Walker from the Lincoln Knight’s Scooter
club has let me know on our hotline that they’re having a charity ride out
tomorrow. They’re starting from the Lincoln Green Pub on Lincoln Road at about
2pm to ride throughout the city. And it’s all in aid of the Lincolnshire and
Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance. And I mentioned it earlier in the week, Appleby
in North Lincolnshire are having their Celebration of Village Life this
weekend. This is all in aid of the Church roof fund and there’ll be!
a flower festival in the church, a musical concert on Saturday evening. On
the Sunday there’ll be a church service led by the Bishop of Grimsby with music
and song by the villagers and then the green fingered residents will open their
gardens in the afternoon. So lots of events going on this weekend. Best of luck
to everyone, who’s organising a charity event. I hope it goes well.

And just a little note finally to send best wishes to a very special parish
priest in Brigg. Canon Maher is the parish priest for St Mary’s Catholic church
in Brigg and today, he not only celebrates his retirement, but he’s celebrating
sixty years as an ordained priest. That’s just incredible isn’t it? And despite
being eighty-five this year, he’s still going strong. I believe that many of
his friends and family are coming over from Ireland today for a special
celebration mass in his honour in Brigg today. So best wishes to them all on
Canon Maher’s sixtieth anniversary as a priest. That’s amazing isn’t it?

So that’s it from me for today. I hope all those events go well this weekend
and that you can join me tonight on BBC One at half past six.

Take care,

Peter
