Hello, it’s Peter here and welcome to Tuesday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day’s
going well, the weather seems to be nice this morning… so far. To see if it’s
going to stay that way we’ll have the weather forecast with Paul today, and I
hope you’ll be able to join me tonight on Look North at half past six for the
day’s news as well.

As if the situation wasn't bad enough, flood victims are now having to suffer
the insult of having their possessions looted from outside their homes.
Tonight we’ll have exclusive pictures of one lot caught on CCTV and we'll talk
to police about the problem. It’s unbelievable, isn’t it?

It's one of the last taboos - one in ten admissions to accident and emergency
is thought to be self inflicted, but people are still unwilling to talk about
self harm.
We'll speak to one young woman who says more needs to be done to help people
like her.

And thousands of people own technology they don't know how to use, but can
primary school children help pensioners get to grips with mobile phones? I’m
looking forward to seeing that.

And ahead of Lincolnshire's Waterfront festival, we'll visit the main
attraction as a replica of the famous Discovery ship is winched into place in
Brayford Pool. That’s all coming up at the usual time of six thirty on BBC One.

Live Earth

I don’t know if you watched any coverage of the big world wide Live Earth
concert on Saturday, apparently not many did. It was intended to raise
awareness of environmental issues and climate change, and it was hoped the
event would be the equivalent of Live Aid. Unfortunately, viewing figures would
suggest the publicity generating concert was a flop, with less than a third of
the viewers watching than tuned in for the previous week’s Concert for Diana.
In addition to stars using foul language on stage in a pre-watershed time slot,
many people were put off by the fact that lots of the stars were being flown in
and out for the concerts on private jets – hardly the greenest way to travel.
In addition, the news today is that the concert was beaten in viewing figures
on American television by – well, everything. It was the least watched show on
mainstream American television in that time slot. Let’s hope there are some
better plans in the pipeline to help save the environment.

RNLI

The RNLI will be holding its first Flag Day in Hull for at least ten days,
that’s on this Saturday the 14th. What is the Flag Day? Well Val from the RNLI
tells me it’s a big fundraising event for the Lifeboat institution. Their main
activities will centre on Queen Victoria Square where they’ll have a Sea Safety
Roadshow and a model lifeboat on display. Go along if you can, it’s for an
excellent cause and sounds like a lot of fun, that’s on Saturday in Queen
Victoria Square in Hull.

And I’ve got another mention here for to the Appleby WI today as they come for
a tour of the studio in Hull. I think I'll be hanging about tonight to meet
them. And they tell me too that it's a busy weekend for the little village of
Appleby in Lincolnshire. It's their Flower Festival running through the weekend
at St Bartholomew's Church.
There'll be Ploughman's Lunches and afternoon teas in the village hall both
days. There’s a musical concert in the evening on Saturday starting at 7.30pm
and on Sunday there's a Service of Celebration led by the Bishop of Grimsby
starting at half past ten. I hear that the villagers of Appleby are a green
fingered lot, and their gardens will be open and on display on the Sunday from
half past twelve. So an incredibly busy weekend for Appleby. There must have
been lots of organising going on for this and of course lots of weeding and
pruning! Not something I can really relate to! But good luck for all the events
going on this weekend in Appleby. It's all in aid of their church, which is
needing some repairs. Apparently, they have some very unusual and rare
gargoyles. Please no mention of the likeness of me or Paul! So make a note in
your dairy about that and welcome to the ladies of Appleby's WI tonight.

Don’t forget, if you have anything you wan to send in, a picture or email, send
it to me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] And you can watch today’s edition of Look North
online at your leisure, just go to www.bbc.co.uk/looknorthhull. If you miss the

separately as well.

Well that’s it from me today, I hope you can join me tonight.

Bye for now

Peter
