Hi there, it’s Peter here. Can you believe it? It looks like we’re heading into
our second day of sunshine with no rain. I woke up this morning to blue skies.
But will it last? Perhaps I’ve just jinxed it and it’ll pour down with rain
this afternoon! I hope not. I don’t know about you, but I’m fed up with this
weather.

Tonight on the programme, we'll be meeting the furious residents of Burstwick,
who say that the flooding mayhem could have been avoided if the environment
agency weren't suffering cutbacks. And I’ll have all your reaction to our story
on looting last night. Just to give you a taste of what you all thought about
the footage of the two men carrying furniture from a flooded home’s garden to
their van, here’s a few comments. “Why don’t you just let them take the rubbish
from the flooded areas? It saves paying for skips, doesn’t it?” And one here –
“Your looting story did not mention whether the van thieves broke into the
house or whether they took items from the lawn. While the latter may also be
illegal, it is quite different from actually entering someone’s house to steal.
Many people may believe that items, like mouldy carpets etc, in a pile outside
have been thrown away by the householder. I think you should have got the
police officer to spell out what is legal or illegal. !
If the men had broken into the house, an £80 fine is too lenient, if they
thought it was thrown rubbish, it was fair as a first offence.” And one very
angry resident here – “It’s a pity we can’t take a lesson from the Americans,
when they had the floods in Florida. They had the National Guard and they were
given the order of shooting looters on sight. They should do that here as
well.” Well, an incredibly strong view there! Many thanks for those and I’m
sure we’ll have more of your comments on the programme tonight.

Also on Look North, we'll have the latest on the row over the crowd clashes at
last weekend's Hull Derby. And we'll be taking a look at our eye in the sky as
we spend the day at RAF Conningsby for their official launch as the UK's rapid
response base protecting the country against the threat of terrorism.

Plus we'll meet the Sierra Leone DJ, who's teaching Hull's local youngsters how
to rap. I hope no one suggests that I take a lesson from him! And we'll be
with the thousands of motorcyclists as they rev up for the North's biggest bike
night in Barton.

And can you imagine how this poor guy must be feeling. We'll be sympathising
with the Lincolnshire man, who hasn't been able to stop hiccupping for five
months. That’s all tonight on BBC One at half past six.

Chish and Fips

It’s hard to believe, but for the first time it’s being reported that fish and
chips have broken through the £5 barrier. Fish and chips are in danger of
becoming an expensive treat, rather than a staple family meal and prices are
soaring across the county. I know what you are thinking. I’m sure, like me, you
know several ''well known places'' where fish and chips are already more than
£5. Anyway the reason for this story getting so much coverage at the moment is
because the price of potatoes has more than doubled in some cases due to a
shortage caused by a poor harvest after the floods. Will it put you off? Or
will you still join the queue at your local chippie?

Pictures

I still need some more photos for our Big Screen. To be fair we probably have
seen enough pictures of floods for now. I’m sure that’s the last thing that
people want to see! Any other picture or view, then I’d love to see it. The
more unusual ones are especially welcome. On Monday we had a picture of a Steam
train at Paragon station in Hull and last night we had the picture of a road in
Tetney with two speed limit signs either side of the road showing 30mph on one
side of the road and 40mph on the other! If you've got a good picture send it
to me and also if you have a story that you think we should know about then let
me know. The usual address is [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Well, that's it from me for now. Paul is back tonight. Last night I met the
women of Appleby’s WI and they had noted Paul’s absence recently! But he’s back
tonight for the forecast, but I read the most bizarre story in the paper that
said after the floods we now have the possibility of frost later this month in
what should be the middle of summer. True? Or just another tabloid newspaper
story. But after those pictures of snow yesterday in Buenos Aires, perhaps it
could be true! I must remember to ask Paul about it tonight!

Take care today and I’ll see you tonight at half past six.

Peter
