Hello, it’s Peter here and welcome to the Levy Letter for this Wednesday. I
hope your day’s going well and you’ll be able to join me tonight on Look North
at half past six. Coming up tonight we’ll have the story of the mother from
Cleethorpes who’s been missing from her home for five days and police say
they're increasing worried about her safety. We'll have the latest on the
search.

Next month Hull's main post office will close down. It's being moved into WH
Smiths but staff have been forced to re-apply for their jobs on less wages and
customers are worried it'll mean a worse service. We'll be trying to find out
what the future holds for our post offices, and what impact this will have on
the people of Hull who rely on the service. I’m sure a lot of people will have
something to say on this.

Despite the weather the show must go on and in Driffield they're confident this
year's agricultural show will be one to remember. We'll have all the highlights
from that and more on Look North tonight.

Six hundred years and six hundred thousand pounds of restoration work later...
now the remains of Thornton Abbey in Lincolnshire are being opened to the
public. We'll be taking a look around.

And they've ruined hundreds of houses but today we’ll take a look at the
hundreds of acres of crops that have been damaged by floods. We'll find out
what advice and help is being offered to our farmers. You don’t often think of
the damage caused to agricultural land by the water, but it’s damaged lots of
livelihoods and in an area like this it’s having a huge impact.

It’s been a busy week for stories on Look North, and we’ve had lots and lots of
emails, texts, and answer phone messages in every day, so thank you for those
and keep them coming in. Yesterday we had a story about proposals to cut health
care, and lots of people had something to say about that. I wonder what the
next big response will be about.

Vitamins

I don’t know if you saw this story today, it’s something that might surprise a
lot of people. Scientists have claimed that taking supplements of Vitamin C
will not offer protection from the common cold. Although people under extreme
stress like marathon runners could reduce their risk of catching a cold by half
with daily vitamin C, for the rest of us the effects could be so small that the
cost outweighs the benefits.
It’s incredible the things that they tell you about health that later get
contradicted by other researchers, isn’t it? Of course for a long time now
we’ve been told to take supplements of vitamins to help prevent illnesses, and
if this study is true, it could all have been a waste of money, although for
all we know somebody would come out with another study tomorrow saying the
exact opposite and we’d believe it!
According to scientists, we can get the health boosting powers of vitamin C
through eating five portions of fruit and veg a day. So taking a vitamin C
tablet every day does not actually make a big difference to your health. That’s
probably something the booming health supplement industry won’t be glad to hear.

I’ve got a couple of events to plug in the Levy Letter today, there’s a
production of “Dancin’ On The Sidewalk” at the Middleton Hall between the 27th
-29th of July. It’s been performed by local children from the South Hunsley
School Dance Studio. If you like dance then that sounds wonderful.

And this coming weekend is the 2nd annual Lincolnshire Pride festival in
Lincoln. This year it'll be a whole lot bigger as it's held at The Engine Shed
at the University of Lincoln. It starts at 10am on both Saturday and Sunday
with live entertainment all day and late into the night. All the details are at
www.lincolnshirepride.com and pictures will be added to the website all over
the weekend so people can see what's going on if they want to take a look
before they come, or can't attend all of the event.

Make it along to those if you can.

If you haven’t had a chance to look at our website then do it now, you can find
