Hello there, and welcome to Tuesday’s edition of the Levy Letter. Well it seems
that Autumn is well and truly here. Paul Hudson did say that the rain would be
appearing today, I was hoping that he would be wrong but it has turned up and
doesn’t seem to show signs of stopping. I suppose the best thing to do is keep
your brollies handy!

Footballers in the Kitchen

Now, do you find it hard to get your children inspired in the kitchen? In an
effort to tackle child obesity and to encourage children to eat healthily, some
of Europe’s top footballers have got together to publish a recipe book. Health
experts suggest that up to 20% of children are overweight in the EU. The new
book is called “Eat for Goals!” and it aims to address this problem, by trying
to persuade children that healthy food can also be tasty food. The recipe book
was jointly created by the European Commission and the football body UEFA. The
dishes range from very simple to the adventurous. A simple fruit salad is
suggested by Rangers and Scotland captain Barry Ferguson and Steven Gerrard,
the Liverpool captain and England player gives his recipe of aromatic sea
bream. Maybe I’ll even try and give it a go!

Toads

I mentioned yesterday that noise level is affecting whales and other sea
mammals, but it seems that the future may also be bleak for Europe’s toads. A
team of UK researchers has warned that by 2050 more than half of Europe's
amphibians could be extinct. There are many factors which are threatening the
species’ long term survival such as disease, habitat destruction and climate
change. They may not be the most glamorous of animals but it seems we may have
to work a little harder to help ensure that this does not happen.

Time Gentlemen Please

This did make me chuckle when I read this so thought I would pass it on.
Apparently a pub in Tyneside has had to call time on one of its most regular
customers as it goes through a refurbishment. Peggy, a 12 year old mare, liked
nothing more than enjoying a pint of beer and a packet of crisps alongside her
owner. However she is now no longer allowed in the pub as the refit has meant
that she may get the new carpets a bit mucky. The horse still accompanies her
owner but will have to remain tethered outside. Regulars have been asking where
Peggy is but the landlady has remained firm with her new rules. So what do you
think to that one? Is your pet welcome in your local? I’d love to hear from
you. Contact me on [EMAIL PROTECTED]

That’s it for today, I hope you manage to stay dry! Please join me for Look
North tonight at 6.30pm on BBC One.

Take care,

Peter
