Good Afternoon, its Peter here. I read today that pressure is growing on Dubai's newest and largest hotel resort to free a whale shark from its aquarium. The Atlantis Hotel, on the iconic Palm Jumeirah Island, originally said it had "rescued" the animal, which is recognised as an endangered species. The Atlantis hotel, which opened last month, was billed as the biggest and one of the best resorts in Dubai. But it has already witnessed some major setbacks. A fire billowed smoke through the lobby three weeks before the opening. Then, a week after opening, one of its main water valves ruptured, resulting in no water in much of the hotel. Now the focus is on the 4m (13ft) whale shark that circles the hotel's aquarium - a tank built to invoke the ruins of Atlantis, the so-called Lost City. The shark, which could grow up to 12m (39ft), was caught off the coast of Dubai six weeks ago. Lets hope Hulls Marina hotel is not planning a night-time raid on The Deep for a similar ext! ravagance ..
Jamaican Police Baffled by Beach Theft If you want to go back to the same beach on your holidays, better check first because Police in Jamaica are investigating the suspected theft of 500 truck-loads of sand from a planned resort at Coral Spring beach. Detectives say a good beach is seen as a valuable asset to hotels on the Caribbean island. But a lack of arrests made since July have led to criticism of the police and even suspicions of the Police being involved. Illegal sand mining is a problem in Jamaica; the tradition of people building their own homes in Jamaica means there is a huge demand for the construction material. However, the large volume and the type of sand taken made suspicion point towards the hotel industry. Police said they were carrying out forensic tests on beaches along the coast to see if any of it matches the stolen sand. Dont forget your bucket and spade if you are planning a trip to Brid this weekend. Spanish Airline Goes Bust Most of us would like to get away for some winter sun but Spanish-based airline LTE International has suspended operations and has told Spanish authorities that it was in serious financial difficulty. Cancellation of flights has left passengers stranded in Spain. Airline employees were told of the company's difficulties via text messages on their mobile phones. Problems in the aviation industry have already brought down a series of small airlines over the past year with the most serious collapse in September, with the demise of XL Airways and its parent firm, the UK's third-largest tour operator. I hope no one you know has been affected by LTEs difficulties. Gwyneth and Madge Pal Up I read today that Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow has revealed she is "supporting" her friend Madonna through her divorce from husband Guy Ritchie. Apparently, they have been friends for years and both married British men and share a love for yoga. Last week, Madonna and film director Ritchie announced they were splitting up after nearly eight years of marriage. Madonna and Guy are reportedly worth around £300m, with the majority earned by Madonna, have a seven-year-old son and an adopted three year old son from Malawi. Ritchie has also helped to raise Madonna's 12-year-old daughter. They are yet to reach a deal over how to share their fortune and custody of their children. Have a great Tuesday on this lovely blue autumnal day.
