Hi there, it’s Peter here with your Levy Letter this Wednesday. And isn’t it a
glum Wednesday? All this rain certainly doesn’t make you want to get out of bed
in the morning does it? Well, I hope it bucks up for the weekend, especially if
you’re hoping to visit Hull Fair.

Latest Split

Well, in terms of celebrity couples, I thought that perhaps this relationship
was for keeps. I’ve read though that Madonna and her husband, Guy Ritchie, are
to divorce. At least that’s what has been reported. They’ve been together for
nearly eight years, which in celebrity terms is a lifetime! So it looks like
the seven-year-itch has kicked in! They married in December 2000 at an
atmospheric looking castle in the Scottish highlands. Can you remember the
pictures in all the magazines? Well, they’re to split now allegedly and if they
were to split, then it leaves their two sons, seven year old Rocco and David
Banda, who were adopted and her eleven year old daughter, Lourdes, from an
earlier relationship.

Squirrel Nutkin

I think we all probably get to catch a glimpse of grey squirrels as they scurry
around our parks and gardens, but what about red squirrels? If you happen to
see one, then be sure to let The Wildlife Trust know, because there are fears
that the red squirrel population may be hit by a deadly virus carried by its
arch enemy the grey squirrel! There are fears that the grey squirrel may need
to be culled in order to protect the future of red squirrels. Have any of you
managed to get a snap of a red squirrel? They’re certainly very rare. Anyway,
if you have taken a good photo of a red squirrel, then do send it to me as I’d
love to see it. It’s the usual address of [EMAIL PROTECTED] and of course we
might be able to include it on the programme, just before the weather.

Bring Back The Birch

Did you ever get the cane at school? Or have any of you perhaps had to give the
cane to a naughty kid? I’m sure it might bring back some bad memories! Well,
I’ve read that one in five teachers would like to see the cane brought back
into schools for ‘extreme cases’. What do you reckon to that? The catchphrase
is, “it never did me any harm” – what’s your view? Teachers are saying that
they’re concerned for the lack of good behaviour in their classrooms, which is
why a number of teachers are supporting corporal punishment. It was abolished
in schools a decade ago, which isn’t that long ago really. So there you go, one
in five teachers would like to see the cane brought back, but if you look at it
the other way, 80% of teachers are not in favour of corporal punishment. I’m
sure you have a view, so get in touch on this one to the usual address of
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Well, that's it from me for now. I hope you can join me tonight for the
programme at the usual time of half past six.

Take care,

Peter
