Zip not only compresses files, it also makes sure that the file is undamaged
when it uncompresses it. Some systems will alter binary files when passed
through mail systems. When the mail system sees a file type it recognizes
as binary (.pdf, .zip, .jpg, etc) it then knows to preserve 8-bit characters
and non-printable characters, not fold long lines, etc. So, there are other
reasons to use zip.
