Somewhat related to this,  is the issue of portability (both import and export)
to other CAD systems and tools.  The programmers probably emulated some of the
capabilities of the language they were using to write the code.

I would think the best option here would be some user checkboxes to allow
or disallow some of the options which have been discussed in this thread.
Then everyone can have what they want.  :)
