Re: AIE configuration

2008-05-07 Thread Kurniadi
Hi Surya, You don't have to create .dat & .tbl file to import external
source to CMDB.
Just prepare your data in any spreadsheet, DON'T use any space on
column name and convert it to .csv file.

For "filename.csv", the command is:
filehelper -ax server -al User -ap "passwd" -fn filename -d
 (note: remove the .csv extension)

It will create the .tbl file of the data and submit entry to
EIE:VendorFieldNames form

Saravanan,

I believe there is nothing available OOTB to automate ticket creation
using email engine. You will have to customize it. You will have to
build workflow on AR System Email Messages form.

All,

I have a requirement of creating incident in ITSM through the email.

Is there any out of box functionality available in ITSM to create ticket
via email?

Please let me know how to do if it is found.

Re: Issues sending emails even though service is running

2008-05-07 Thread Matt Ferrigno
Jason,

I'm not sure the exact purpose of the .tmp file, but if I had to guess ...
It's most likely a .eml file that the email engine passes to the mail
server, but uses a .tmp extention to identify it as temporary since once it
is sent to the mail server it is no longer needed on the AR server. Anyway,
Since you went to patch 006 a while ago and are just now seeing this
problem, I'm assuming that this is not that cause of your issue. Though,
there's always room for hope. Good luck with your problem.

Regards,
Matt Ferringo

2008-05-07 Thread William H. Will Du Chene
I am sure that they have! It's just that, well, with the way things are
nowadays travel for work might make a journey such as this worth the
hassle. If I were going to go on vacation, however, I'd almost ask myself
if it were really worth it to bring along the gizmos...

As always folks, I do appreciate the feedback...

There are no fields with menus on this form??

The logs only mention ARGetListSchema, ARGetfield, ARValidateFormCache,

I have no clue about those. I am upgrading from 4.5.2 to 7.1 with a new

Everything seems to work as it should (so far ;-) except I cannot find the

Re: OT: JOB UK : Senior Technical Support Technician

2008-05-07 Thread Rick Cook
There was an article on Slashdot about this the other day. Apparently,
there are several ways to minimize the effect of having one's laptop
effectively confiscated, which is good, because there's not a thing we can
do about it, even though U.S. privacy laws would have to be violated by
allowing such an intrusive search by an unauthorized person.

A prefunctory examination, using some standardized tool, I could live with,
if it would take a reasonable time and be based on some rule of law
involving probable cause. What's bad about the status quo is that it's
arbitrary and capriciously used. It's something I would expect from some
backwards country that used underpaid and undersupervised agents, not our
neighbors and allies.

How about "Certificate of Registration" for mobile equipment... Are they

Re: CI Viewer problem

2008-05-07 Thread Kurniadi
Thanks for your response Kelly,

It is ARS 7.01.00 patch 001 , which is equal to 7.1.00 Patch 001.

>From the CMDB Console it shows ARS version used is 7.01.00, but on AIE
it shows 7.1.00
I think BMC should use consistent format for version naming, to
prevent user confusion :)

I have upgraded the CMDB to CMDB 2.1 patch 2, but still get the same
error on the CI Viewer. :(

FYI, for exploring CMDB I try CMDB Analyzer from BlueLineG
(www.bluelineg.com). It's much more advanced and faster than CI
Viewer.

Thanks,

Thank you - this is exactly what the ITIL definition is... I confirmed

Re: Issues sending emails even though service is running

2008-05-07 Thread Jason Miller
Hi Matt,

Yes it is definitely patch 6.

loaded libraryApplication has started Version: 7.0.01 Patch 006
200712011959
Using JRE: 1.4.2_14

I didn't know that the email service created temp files. I just took a look
in "C:\Documents and Settings\\Local
Settings\Temp" and there are +484k files named like E2_100234.tmp.
According to the dates they haven't been created in a while so we
unknowingly fixed it in the last few months when we brought it up from no
patch. Looks like we have some clean up to do. I can see that if the
service has to search through all of these that it could cause some issues
even if it isn't creating new files. We'll delete them and see if that
fixes the issue. Thanks for the tip!

Does anybody know the purpose of these temp files?

Thanks,
Jason

Oh, yeah, I remember now. Those EXTERNAL calls are nice workflow, but a

that out. Good luck, unless someone rides to the rescue and just tells you

Re: Overview Console vs. Incident Management Console

2008-05-07 Thread Jase Brandon
Hi Rick,
I checked that prior and no it didn''t, the qual is = EXTERNAL(
$z1D_ExternalQualString$)", checked further and that field isn't even on the
Overview Console
so, I thought it would be set through workflow, I viewed all associated
workflow with the form, and still nada.
I am going to run a workflow log and see when z1d_ExternalQualString' is
being set and by what workflow.
Since this is straight out of the box, I presumed someone else may have seen
this behavior.
Any other ideas?

Thanks Much,

Re: Overview Console vs. Incident Management Console

2008-05-07 Thread LisaD
Check your default settings for the consoles in Application Preferences, to
see what displays when you access the console. If the default settings are
different, you will see different rows.

The Application Preferences link is under the General Functions section on
the Console views... (but, you probably already know that)

Hope that helps,
Lisa

Re: ARWARN 70

2008-05-07 Thread Thad K Esser
David,

Apparently I'm in an SQL mood today. This Oracle SQL (yours should be
similar) ought to help you track down which field is referencing a missing
menu:

//Character fields referencing menus that don't exist
select s.name FormName, f.fieldid, f.fieldname, fc.charmenu, cm.charmenuid
from arschema s, field f, field_char fc, char_menu cm
where s.schemaid = f.schemaid
and s.schemaid = fc.schemaid
and f.fieldid = fc.fieldid
and fc.charmenu is not null
and fc.charmenu != '$NULL$'
and fc.charmenu = cm.name (+)
and cm.name is null
//include the following line to limit to a specific form
and s.name = 'AD3:SupportTech:AD3:HomePage'

The scary part is I ran it on our mint install of 7.0.2 Service Desk and

Overview Console vs. Incident Management Console

2008-05-07 Thread Jase Brandon
Hello All,
7.1 Patch 002 ARS

Hopefully this is a simple answer and others have seen the same.

Overview Console displays different Incidents than the Incident Management
Console. We are beginning to use tasks, so I have directed all to look for
Assigned work in the Overview Console.

The issue is that some Incidents display in the Overview Console, but not
all assigned to me in the Incident Mgmt Console.. I can't find anything
different between incidents displayed in Overview and Incident.
I checked and the 'Console View' on both consoles = "Console View/All My
Groups/Show All", all Incidents in the Incident Mgmt. console are assigned
to me, but only a few are displayed in the Overview Console.

Is there a limitation to rows displayed on the Overview Console?

Any insights greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Jase Brandon

Kais, with you being a new poster, I don't think anyone here is familiar
with you, your company, or what your difference report would look like.
Perhaps if you were to fill in some gaps in our knowledge of those, we might
be exposed to a useful tool and a good new source of information.

Thanks!

I was not offering a line-by-line def compare
The report will tell you what is different between the def files
(objects changed, objects added, objects removed) and explain what is
different in each object.
If you just send me 2 sample def files, I'll generate a report for you,
you can always throw it away if it does not help.

Cheers.

Re: ARWARN 70

Have you removed any fields from that form recently? It could be that there
is a menu that displays data FROM that form ON another form, and it's
looking for a field that no longer exists.

Or it could be that there is a problem with that menu related to the
upgrade, which is a major jump in API functionality.

Koyb,
Here is a link I found to to a relevant article that addresses this issue:

http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-2686033.php

If you decide to address this issue by modifying the default permissions of the
entire folder hierarchy under the "All Users" profile, YMMV. I tried this on
one user's machine while logged in as an administrator, only to find that the
original read-only permissions were restored when the user logged back in under
her regular non-administrator account. I think this may have been due to the
permissions tied to the user's Novell account in our case. So, the permission
change may have to be made at the domain account level in order for it to
'stick'.

  Koyb,
What version of the user tool did you upgrade from and to?

I ran into some similar issues after the version 7.0.01 Patch 004 upgrade,
which moved the default home directory from the current user's profile into the
"All Users" profile (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AR
System\User\home"). Unfortunately, the "All Users" profile seems to be
read-only by default unless the current user belongs to at least the "Power
Users" group in Windows (most of our users are not).

If you are not using a preference server, the login server names would be
stored in the file named "AR" in the home folder (not to be confused with
"ar.ini", that is a different file). If you are unable to modify this file
manually or copy a file into this same directory, then I'm guessing it is
simply a write permissions issue. If so, you can simply reinstall the client
and modify the default home folder location during the install to point to a
different location with write access. You could probably do this without
reinstalling, but it would probably require manually updating any registry key
values that store any references to the AR home folder path.

  HTH,

  Thomas

Re: ZTmpSchema1 strangeness

2008-05-07 Thread David Sanders
Hi Drew

If you remove a field from its only view the field will be deleted when you
save the form (unless it is an attachment field - go figure !!). So if you
pull one of these fields that are not in any view into the only view, you
cannot then remove it from the view again easily.

If you really need to remove it from the view (and this is how those fields
got in that strange position in the first place), create a temporary view
and move the field into this new view and remove from your proper view.
Update the form. Then delete the temporary view and save. You end up with
the field still existing, but not in any view.

This is some strangeness. In the course of normal ITSM system development,
somethings not working. An AL log says that the AL that a button runs is
failing the qual. The field in the qual is hidden, so I'm going to unhide
it and then run the workflow again.

So, in the Admin tool...the field isn't there so I go to Form...Current
View...Fields In View. The field is in the list of fields not in view so I
move it over. When I'm done with the testing, I want to move that field
back over to the Fields Not In View column.

No problem...except that there is a problem. A message pops up telling me
that I'm about to remove a field from its only view. If there's only one
view, then how could the field not be in it to begin with? Is this because
AST:Asset Management Console is a Display-Only form?

I have no clue about those. I am upgrading from 4.5.2 to 7.1 with a new

Everything seems to work as it should (so far ;-) except I cannot find
the cause of this warning. Any ideas would be

It does sound convoluted that a field could exist that isn't in any view,
but maybe it will make more sense if you look at it from a DB perspective.
A field can exist in a DB table without being in an external view of that
table. I think the AR System behavior now mimics that (although that didn't
use to be the case a few versions ago). So the field is only being removed
from the view (think copy), not from the form, and you can add it back to
any view at any time.

Re: Issues sending emails even though service is running

2008-05-07 Thread Matt Ferrigno
Are you sure you are running patch 6 on the email engine? I ran into a
problem at one point with because email engine pre-patch 2 does not delete
temporary files. In which case the temp folder filled up with over 1
million files and caused poor performance of the email engine (about 6
emails per minute). A simple resart of the email engine did not fix the
issue. We had to remove all the temporary files in the directory.

For some reason, there are tons of fields that are not in any view but
are accessed in workflow. It doesn't have to be in a view to be used.

This is some strangeness. In the course of normal ITSM system
development,
somethings not working. An AL log says that the AL that a button runs is

failing the qual. The field in the qual is hidden, so I'm going to
unhide
it and then run the workflow again.

So, in the Admin tool...the field isn't there so I go to Form...Current
View...Fields In View. The field is in the list of fields not in view so
I
move it over. When I'm done with the testing, I want to move that field
back over to the Fields Not In View column.

No problem...except that there is a problem. A message pops up telling
me
that I'm about to remove a field from its only view. If there's only one

view, then how could the field not be in it to begin with? Is this
because
AST:Asset Management Console is a Display-Only form?

Issues sending emails even though service is running

2008-05-07 Thread Jason Miller
Has anybody had issues with the Email Engine stop processing outgoing and
incoming mail while the service still running. Restarting the email service
alone usually does not fix the issue. There are no errors in the email logs
or email error form.

I have noticed that the aremaild.exe process usually takes a while to stop
so I have started doing a full service start/stop instead of a restart, and
sometimes I have to kill the process.

We usually we only have an issue if we have to restart the ARS service or if
the Exchange mailbox is unavailable for some reason (configured for MAPI).
A fresh OS restart and the email engine fires up fine. What we have had to
do lately when email stops processing is:
•Stop the service/kill the process
•Delete the pending email messages that are waiting to be sent (export
them first)
•Move the incoming emails that are waiting in Exchange from the inbox
•Start the service and try sending a new message (repeat until it will
process the message(s))
•Move the incoming email back to the Inbox (verify they are processed)
•Import the previously deleted records

I have noticed this issue in the previous shop where I worked at too, on
various patches of 7.0 and 7.0.1 (all Windows 2003). I have seen some
threads on the list where it looks like similar issues but no resolutions or
how many others have seen this behavior.

Thanks,

OT: JOB UK : Senior Technical Support Technician

2008-05-07 Thread Gidd
Robert,

Jennifer what planet are you on?

Anyone who has EVER traveled extensively internationally will tell you they
hate dealing for immigration, ours, theirs or
whatever. Getting a work permit from these folks just adds a new level of
frustration, IMHO.

FYI, having lived and worked in UK I can tell you that it was a royal pain
to get a Work Permit. As a matter of fact, I could NOT
be in UK while they processed the paperwork for the work permit. So if the
sponsor doesn't have the ability to get the employee
a work permit then good luck with that and let us all know.

Funny thing was, once I got the work permit I was told that in a matter of
time I could also apply for permanent residency/citizenship
 "Tally Ho"

Quite honestly, while living and working in another country sounds exciting
there are always issues. I have lived in and
worked in several countries in Southeast Asia and UK. At the end of the day
while I enjoyed experiencing new cultures
the cost of living and living standards are not always the same. Pony up
17.5% VAT Tax on everything and focus on the
US/Pound exchange and she might have a change of heart.

BTW: The original request asked for a RAC, so I guess if you are a RAC or
RSP then yes perhaps the employer would get you
a work permit ?

At the end of the day ALWAYS consult the country of destination's
Immigration Dept. for answers:
http://www.bia.homeoffice.gov.uk/workingintheuk/

Good Luck either way.

I'm assuming that you have a United States Passport :)

Depending upon the length of the job, you may or may-not require a VISA to
work in the UK... You will definately need a Work Permit...

Who ever is hiring you should arrange for the WP / Visa (if needed) - Then
you must receive the WP and have your passport stamped, etc. This in itself
can be a long process...

I know, just got back from a UK assignment - in process of extending the WP
so I can go back and continue with other development topics :)

I've been asked to make a "Work Info" entry required when a Change
Ticket has
been moved to a status of Completed.  I thought it might be easiest to
make the z1D_Summary required on the Dialog View - Close view.  But it
seem
that the Field Change Function doesn't allow for making a field
required,
just visable and font changes seem to be the only changes allowed.

I also tried creating a simple error message active link but it is
firing
after all the "Completed" workflow function fires.  The error messages
comes up but ticket shows Completed even though no entry was made.

Any thoughts would be great.

I did the same thing a month or two ago on HPD:HelpDesk by creating an error

We've seen work log entries fail to be created because the error required the
field in the default view and didn't account for the dialog version.

Re: Enumeration off on CHG form

2008-05-07 Thread Jennifer Meyer
Forgive me for stating the obvious, but it looks as if something truncated the
Request ID of your change request. Change IDs are created in the Ticket Number
Generator, which records the Entry ID then makes a pretty Change ID. CHG:CFG
Ticket Num Generator creates an Entry_ID (field 1) and a Change Request ID then
pushes them to the Change form.

Search your CHG:CFG Ticket Num Generator for the CRQ00025 ticket and see if
anything unusual happened during ticket creation.

Re: JOB UK : Senior Technical Support Technician

2008-05-07 Thread Robert Molenda
I'm assuming that you have a United States Passport :)

Depending upon the length of the job, you may or may-not require a VISA to
work in the UK... You will definately need a Work Permit...

Who ever is hiring you should arrange for the WP / Visa (if needed) - Then
you must receive the WP and have your passport stamped, etc. This in itself
can be a long process...

I know, just got back from a UK assignment - in process of extending the WP
so I can go back and continue with other development topics :)

Frank,

We had a client that encountered the same issue with Tomcat 5.5 on a Windows
2003 web server. BMC supplied a DLL fix for this issue. I would hope that
BMC has a like fix for your environment.

Essentially both the mid-tier and Websphere try to do the translation of the
encoded "/" - it needs to be one or the other but there's no configuration
that supports that.

As my friend Tim would say - it's borked.

2008-05-07 Thread strauss
...which brings me back to the point I keep hammering some of the idiots
at BMC support about (not all are idiots, by a long shot, but they are
trapped in a system that makes them look like idiots). Fix the code,
and fix it correctly and systematically rather than keep throwing
band-aids around that are out of sync with the patches releases. Based
on having to live with their various attempts at patching the 7.x
applications for almost two years now, their code maintenance processes
suck almost as badly as the original OOTB code did! All you have to do
is look at the history of patch 9002 to see just how lousy their entire
operation has been.

with no success. Would just get a blank page with no source code. I
inactivated all alinks but that did not help. I re-saved the form and
flushed the cache. Still no page would display and there were no errors
in any log files. I even re-imported the form with no luck. This form
works fine on MT 6.3 p20.

The name of the form is: Host\Device Validation.

The next step was renaming the form thinking maybe the "\" was the
problem. I renamed it to "Host Device Validation". This fixed the
problem. The form opened with no issues.

I do not recall seeing anything about certain characters not being
allowed in form (object) names.

believe IBM Websphere shares a lot of similarities with your product's

there's no configuration that supports that.

Enumeration off on CHG form

2008-05-07 Thread Moore, Christopher Allen
Hey everyone-

We saw some really odd behavior on something yesterday. A CHG ticket
was submitted and the number should have been CRQ00025868, however
it went in as CRQ00025 (7 zeros). There is a separate
CRQ0025 (10 zeros), which is a year old and unaffected.

All notifications went out with the number CRQ00025 and everything
seems ok, aside from the lack of 3 digits. It was cancelled and a new
ticket was opened- CRQ00025898

Many tickets were created since, and number CRQ00025868 was simply
skipped. As of this morning we're on CRQ00025935.

ITSM 7 p3

SQL 2005

Windows Server 2003

Anyone had anything similar happen? I checked Google but didn't get any
meaningful hits.

Thanks,

Chris

Frank,

I don't believe there's a restriction about special characters in object
names, I believe the issue is with the resulting url and maybe a conflict
between the web server that you are using. If there were an issue with
certain characters in form names you would have seen the same type of issue
in the User Tool.

Flashboards Question

2008-05-07 Thread Joseph Kasell
Good morning listers!

First off, thank you to those who responded to my question a couple of
weeks ago regarding CTI management. Your input was very helpful.

Secondly, I have a Flashboards question which probably has an easy answer
which I am overlooking. The environment here is:

ARS 7.0.1, Patch 001
Flashboards 7.0.1
ITSM 6
OS: Windows 2003
DB: MSSQL 2000

On the Remedy Support form in the ITSM suite there are several flashboards
located on the lower right-hand side. Of particular interest here is the
flashboard displaying cases by category. Management here is asking if that
flashboard can display cases by Item (easily done by modifying the OOB
flashboard variable by changing the Group By from "Category" to "Item").
The issue is that by doing so, with all the Items that we have defined,
there would be many bars in the bar graph for each Item, making the
flashboard useless. Is there any way that this could be limited to the top
10 Items in use rather than all Items in use? I can do a SQL query which
will provide that answer but translating that to a custom flashboard is
proving to be difficult, and the powers-that-be here are looking for the
graphical representation. I'm curious if I am missing something obvious.
Appreciate the help.

Hello,

When you open an attachment from midtier interface it opens two
windows one with attachments and another one empty.

There is a way to avoid this empty window?

Thank you.

CMDB 2.1 is not supported on AR 7.0.1. You need to upgrade to AR 7.1

Subject: Missing Enable Cache Persistence

Hi,

There is a new functionality introduced in midtier 7.1 which allows
forms to be serialized and then retrieved faster.
But after upgrading to the version 7.1 I can't seem to find the
"Enable Cache Persistance" option in my configuration tool. It
supossed to be on the Cache Settings. Am I missing something?

thanks,
Marek

CI Viewer problem

2008-05-07 Thread Kurniadi
Fellow ARSListers, I have a problem with CI Viewer.. the Environment
is : CMDB 2.1.00, ARS 7.01.00 patch 001 running on SunOS 5.10

I try creating custom Filter for CI Viewer like the default filter
"All", but using Relationship direction of Downstream and Upstream.

The default filter of CI Viewer are working perfectly but when
changing to the new filter , I get an error message "ARERR [3600]
Internal error."

Below is the Active Link log when selecting the filter, is there any
hint how to debug this problem?

Thank you..
