happening?

Well...the scripts we are working on are specifically related to our home
grown app, so wouldn't be of much help to anyone else. It launches the
browser, logs in, selects a link from the AppList on the home page, goes
through a series of about 15 screens to include filling in fields, pressing
buttons, traversing table fields, etcthe hard part is just getting it
done. I haven't found anything that it doesn't do yet...the end ideal will
be to have mini scripts that fill in specific portions of the app with
specific data, and build one giant script that just calls others...:)

ScapaTest. It has the ability to load API log files from the user tool and

Incident Template - Assign To Current User

2009-09-01 Thread Frank Caruso
Created an Incident Template and selected Yes for Assign to Current
User. However, nothing is happening when the user selects that
template from an Incident. I was assuming that it would set the
assignment values to the current users default group. I have tried
several different users with different configurations but cannot get
anything to happen.
I traced the work flow for the Assign to Current User field from the
Template form and was not unable to find anything that would set the
assignment to the current user based on that field being set to Yes.

Any thoughts?

There is no way to do this with the artask attachment that I know of.

But here are a few thoughts that my help.

 Option 1)
However if the data record can identify which view it should be viewed
in, then Active links _may be able to_ help the user and open the
correct view for them when they display the record.

Note: This approach may be trickier than you want to attempt as well.
This can lead to things like extra windows or the idea of auto
closing windows that may cause their own problems.

 Option 2)
Depending on the differences between the two views... maybe you could
implement them as one ARS view with active links to do hide/show
actions to switch views? ( It may not be possible to do all of what
your trying to do this way either.)

 Option 3)
Don't use artask. Instead build an ARS form (that you use with the
Mid-Tier) to get the user to the correct view by clicking on a web
link in the email. ( You need a Mid-Tier and still some custom
development, but this way it is a front door only approach vs Option
1 which is a more everywhere approach.)

 Good luck.

BMC announced this as a product defect SW00342702. i am going to
modify all my workflows that not to push any empty or null values from
a character field to a diary field. Just want to share this info to
you all.

Issue Summary
* Have a diary field and submit a new comment on it.
* Try to add a another new comment with blank space ( ) and modify
the request.
* It replaces all the old comments with null values.
*via workflow if you push null it also replaces all the old comments
with null values.

Even via filter if you push a null value it deletes the previous

In our application, our users are accessing a display only form to
enter the comments, this comments are get stored in regular form diary
 field.
Some users may type comments and some not. By your solution, i need to
look for both null and space and replace a default text and the actual
user may say that how it come without typing it ?.

Anyway thanks for your suggestion, if BMC is not giving the solution,
i am going to take your solution.

Disappearing reports...

2009-09-01 Thread Robert Fults
I have groups of users who are all of a sudden losing access to Incident
Management reports. I have changed permissions (I have even given admin rights
with no luck), deleted and recreated accounts, etc... and available reports is
zero for several users. Permissions for the reports is set to Public. I am
losing access for entire support groups at a time. BMC couldn't give me a
solution after a month and a half. Any ideas?

Using AR System Remedy 7.1 on Windows Server 2003 using Oracle 10 db. No
Crystal reporting in place, just using plain AR System reports.

Thanks Tony. It almost sounds too good to be true!

I'll have to take a closer look. We just incorporated a 'test' server and
would like our off-shore QA team (with little Remedy experience) to do
testing. This would make it alot easier.

Has anyone else used Scapatest?

Thanks,

  Hi Tony,

You make it sound easy and quick. Is it?

So if I have a function that I do on a Help Ticket, initially I just turn
on the API logs while I'm doing that function and then I can load that API
 file for automated use?

I just looked at the website and it looks pretty interesting. I've
requested some pricing information before I get too excited about it.

 Thanks,

BMC announced this as a product defect SW00342702. i am going to modify all
my workflows that not to push any empty or null values from a character
field to a diary field. Just want to share this info to you all.

Issue Summary
* Have a diary field and submit a new comment on it.
* Try to add a another new comment with blank space ( ) and modify the
request.
* It replaces all the old comments with null values.
*via workflow if you push null it also replaces all the old comments with
null values.

Even via filter if you push a null value it deletes the previous text.

ARInside Anouncement

2009-09-01 Thread LJ Longwing
All,
The ARInside team is working diligently to bring forth the first open source
release. We have implemented several new features and are bringing the API
from 7.0.1 to 7.5 and trying to support all of the new features of all
releases between. If you use the tool and it doesn't have a feature you
want, go out and request an enhancement, if it has a problem that you want
fixed, go out and log an enhancement. We should be opening up a beta cycle
here pretty quick, so hurry if you want some new features.

How do I use a mask for this field? It is a decimal field that gets

Re: Diary Field Issue - Attention - Remedy Product Defect.

2009-09-01 Thread Matt Reinfeldt
Meenakshinathan,

As a different approach, don't use a diary field for those comments... store
each user's feedback/comments as a separate entry in a work log form.
Relate each entry back using the Instance ID of the ticket. You can display
them easily enough in a table field, and/or report off of them as needed.

Just a thought.

My suggestion would be to put the $ outside the form at the left edge -
customers would be less likely to add a $ if there was already one there.
But you could also use a mask to be sure that all values entered are either
numeric or a decimal point.

Hope this helps,

Re: The server name problem....

2009-09-01 Thread Lyle Taylor
This issue was just recently discussed on the list. Basically, you either need
to configure your mid tier to use the fully qualified domain name of your
server, or you need to create a filter on the AR System Email Messages form
that looks for URLs and replaces the full name with just the short server name.

Issue Summary
* Have a diary field and submit a new comment on it.

* It replaces all the old comments with null values.
*via workflow if you push null it also replaces all the old comments with

Some users may type comments and some not. By your solution, i need to
look for both null and space and replace a default text and the actual
user may say that how it come without typing it ?.

Take a look at the Form Action reserved fields section of the Form and
Application Objects document (pages 317/318). You can add these fields to
your form via the Admin tool. With your form open, select Form Form
Action Fields (its the bottom item on the menu), then select the fields you
want to control. Once they are on your form, you can use Active Link

Use rrrchive to sync but not delete?

2009-09-01 Thread Charles Baldi
Hello,
Has anyone used rrrchive to synchronize one ARS database with another, but
not delete records on the target database? I want to use SYNCTOTARGET to
get updated records, but I don't want to delete any records on the target
database.

I am trying to come up with a way to migrate a full ITSM production install
and data to another database (needed to fix install errors.) I want to use
SYNCTOTARGET so I can do most of my migration off-line and then do a
catch-up migration at the end of the day with only a small outage.

Any advice is appreciated.

2009-09-01 Thread Thad K Esser
Patrick,

I am on 7.1 patch 5 (on AIX, Oracle 10).

In some simple testing (In all tests, the diary field has previous
values):
Case 1 - In the user tool, put a space in a diary field and save.
Result: Diary field contents retained.

Case 2 - Use a filter push action to push a space to a diary field on
another record
Result: Diary field contents retained.

Case 3 - Use a filter push action to push a field that has a null value to
a diary field on another record
Result: Diary field contents retained.

Sounds like this is just a 7.5 issue.

Group Names

2009-09-01 Thread Shafqat Ayaz
Hi Alli have a very basic question in ITSM.group notifications, do they use the
group id or the group name? we have an issue where one of my colleagues wants
to put the group names the same as group id for example if the group id is 1234
he has named the groups 1234 as well, although the Long Group Name is set
properly for example Company-Org-Group Name. This is the name that shows up
in the Assigned Group field. The other problem is that he has named two groups
the same for different companies.for example Company1-Org-Finance and
Company2-Org-Finance.We are not using Multi-tenancy at the moment and it does
not matter if people from one company can see incidents raised by the second
company.
My question is: what is the accepted wisdom for naming groups in ITSM ( we are
using v7.1) and will this group naming scheme work for notifications.
Many thanks

Re: Group Names

2009-09-01 Thread Lyle Taylor
A little more information might be helpful - it's unclear whether you're
talking about group names in the Group form or in CTM:Supoprt Group. The OOB
behavior when you create a support group in ITSM is that the system will create
a corresponding permission group in the system Group form. The system
generates a new ID for each new permission group created and names the group
the same as the ID. So, you may create a Support Group named
Company-Org-Group Name, but the system will generate a permission group named
something like 10008 with that as the ID.

There is no problem having different groups with the same name so long as you
keep in mind that a group is fully qualified not just by the name, but by the
company, org and name together (or by Support Group ID which is always unique).
If you want to use support groups names independent of the company they belong
too, then you will want to ensure they are unique, probably by establishing
naming convention that includes information in the name that will help make it
unique and identify what company or organization it belongs to.

When sending notifications to a group from within a Notify action, the group ID
must be used.

Is that answering any of your questions?

Lyle

groups have the same name. Now you can use the GID in your filter. I got this
email one day. Then I looked at the ticket, I saw that some had place a 1 in
the required 'email-address' field. On create, the email went to the
Administrator group members.

Subject: Group Names

**
Hi All
i have a very basic question in ITSM.
group notifications, do they use the group id or the group name? we have an
issue where one of my colleagues wants to put the group names the same as group
id for example if the group id is 1234 he has named the groups 1234 as well,
although the Long Group Name is set properly for example Company-Org-Group
Name. This is the name that shows up in the Assigned Group field. The other
problem is that he has named two groups the same for different companies.
for example Company1-Org-Finance and Company2-Org-Finance.
We are not using Multi-tenancy at the moment and it does not matter if people
from one company can see incidents raised by the second company.

My question is: what is the accepted wisdom for naming groups in ITSM ( we are
using v7.1) and will this group naming scheme work for notifications.

Many thanks

Shafqat Ayaz

Warren,

I, like John, stopped using Diary fields long ago. As far as reporting
goes, yes, a join or a sub-report is what it takes to bring that in, but I
don't think that's a big deal, because. (wait for it.) at least you can then
view it in a readable format! Have you seen a Diary field in a report? J
Honestly, though, we don't pull those particular records into much more than
the 'print ticket' reports, as there's no need.

As to how it was missed. good question, and I think that one more use case
has just been defined for the QA team. (note to self: test not only NULL

The real question is, how long will it take to get a fix out?)

WWRUG Sessions Available

2009-09-01 Thread bullcreek.com
With such an overwhelming response to the request for submissions to the WWRUG

Take a look at the Form Action reserved fields section of the Form and
Application Objects document (pages 317/318). You can add these fields to
your form via the Admin tool. With your form open, select Form Form
Action Fields (its the bottom item on the menu), then select the fields you
want to control. Once they are on your form, you can use Active Link
Change Fields to enable/disable them as desired.

Error 303 on Set Field Filter action

2009-09-01 Thread Victor
Hello Listers,

I'm trying to set a form fields from another form dynamically selected. A
filter
is attached to the form to be set with two actions:

- the first action populates a field on the form with the form name to selected
from ( e.g: Set Field $ztmpfield$ = BMC.CORE:BMC_ComputerSystem)
- the second action set the Runtime Form Value to $ztmpfield$ and populates the
form by Ids

When I triggered the filter I received Error 303 : Form does not exist on
server.
When I hard core the form name (Data Source= SERVER;
Form Name = BMC.CORE:BMC_ComputerSystem) the filter fires correctly.

Is this some kind of bug or am I doing something wrong?

Re: Diary Field Issue - Attention - Remedy Product Defect.

2009-09-01 Thread John Sundberg

Actually - I would consider the fuzzing technique for testing.
Cause -- all testing a would do is catch the space problem.

Fuzzing would try tons of things you would never think of. (tabs /
Null \0 / etc.)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuzz_testing

Also - I would make the claim that - reporting is easier when the
comments are in a related table.
(most (maybe all) reporting tools know how to use related tables --
NONE of the reporting tools I know of know how to parse a Remedy diary
field)

Reporting -- it would be easier to produce a report of high touch
tickets by reporting on all tickets where comment.count 10 -- or
something like that - if the comments were in a separate table.

My guess as to why the diary field exists (and still exists) - is two
reasons.
1) Original Remedy did not have push fields (or tables like we now
know them) -- and so the diary field solved the problem.
2) Diary fields == more licenses -- updating a simple status would
update the worklog - forcing a modify of the record - hence license
used -- aka $$$.

If you set Incident Management application preferences Reopen in Current for
After New Save, the newly created incident will come back up in a window that
you can continue editing. You would then add the additional entries to the Work
Info simply by adding each entry and clicking the Save button for each one.
When you're doing with the Incident, you can then close it and move on.

2009-09-01 Thread Lyle Taylor
You'll have to do it in multiple steps. If you're doing it via the
HPD:IncidentInterface_Create form, first create the Incident and capture the
Incident Number. You can probably also include your first Work Info entry when
you create the Incident. You then need to update the Incident using the
IncidentInterface form for the additional work info entries. Alternatively,
once you've created the Incident, you may be able to simply push the additional
entries directly to the HPD:WorkLog form. That's probably easier than trying
to add them using the IncidentInterface form.

Does that help any?

Re: Login id change....

2009-09-01 Thread Lyle Taylor
Hi,

I want to make sure I'm understanding you correctly. Does your tool look for
all character fields (or fields that can contain text) and search for the old
login name and replace it with the new login name within the entire text?

If that's the case, that sounds quite scary to me. I can image that it would
be relatively easy to replace text unintentionally because someone's username
happens to match something else. For example, if someone change their login
from Smith to Jones (perhaps they got married), that would mean that all
references to Smith in, say, Incident descriptions, summaries, etc., would need
to be changed. In fact, it could be quite incorrect to change them. You would
end up changing things like Mary Smith called to report... to Mary Jones
called to report

Am I getting that right?

Hi,

RRR|LoginConv works on all fields, not only 2 and 4.

Any exact match will be converted.

It will also convert Status-History and Diary-fields as well as any exact
occurrence enclosed in single or double quotes.

If you must convert a lot of user names, RRR|LoginConv will do this in one
pass based on a configuration file.

I use a stored procedure in the DB that looks in arschema for forms of
 type

 Subject: Login id change

 **

We have a user who had a login ID in AD of (For example.) Smith . When
 they logged into Remedy 7.5

and were validated by LDAP they would do various transactions/events using
 the Smith username. Now

the AD username has been changed to SMITH so they have to use this to
login to Remedy. Is there any way

of renaming the Smith records in the database to the new username of
 SMITH? Any guidance or suggestions

 are welcome and appreciated.

Re: Error 303 on Set Field Filter action

Are you using the Advanced option in your Set Fields?

Subject: Error 303 on Set Field Filter action

Hello Listers,

I'm trying to set a form fields from another form dynamically selected. A
filter
is attached to the form to be set with two actions:

- the first action populates a field on the form with the form name to selected
from ( e.g: Set Field $ztmpfield$ = BMC.CORE:BMC_ComputerSystem)
- the second action set the Runtime Form Value to $ztmpfield$ and populates the
form by Ids

When I triggered the filter I received Error 303 : Form does not exist on
server.
When I hard core the form name (Data Source= SERVER;
Form Name = BMC.CORE:BMC_ComputerSystem) the filter fires correctly.

Is this some kind of bug or am I doing something wrong?

Remedy System:
Remedy 7.5 patch 2 on Windows 2003 Ent.
MS SQL 2005
Tomcat 5.2 midtier

Hi,

The nextfieldid for that form is set to 23 (don't know how it happened).
Is it safe to just manually set it to a certain id? How do i know what
number is safe?

Thanks!

Kali

select name, nextfieldid from arschema

In normal case the nextfieldid contains something like 5368709xx

Hi,

Everytime I add a new field in an existing form, the field is created as
a Core field (DB id is set to 16,17,18 etc). Any ideas why this is
happening?

Sounds like to me the NextID (arschema - table) value might have gotten
wacked. Try creating a field and then set the field ID manually to
something like 53687920

Resend:Groups

Many thanks
Shafqat Ayaz
