[FairfieldLife] For Vaj -- lyrics to a new Cockburn song
I haven't heard the music that goes with this, but the sentiment strikes a resonance. I think it's pretty neat to reach the age of 60 and find *more* mystery in the world than ever before. That's my idea of spiritual progress. - Unc You can't tell me there is no mystery mystery mystery You can't tell me there is no mystery it's everywhere I turn Moon over junk yard where the snow lies bright snow lies bright snow lies bright Moon over junk yard where the snow lies bright Can set my heart to burn Stood before the shaman I saw star strewn space star strewn space star strewn space Stood before the shaman I saw star strewn space behind the eye holes in his face Infinity always gives me vertigo vertigo vertigo Infinity always gives me vertigo and fills me up with grace I was built on a Friday and you can't fix me you can't fix me you can't fix me I was built on a Friday and you can't fix me even so I've done ok So grab that last bottle full of gasoline gasoline gasoline Grab that last bottle full of gasoline light a toast to yesterday And don't tell me there is no mystery mystery mystery And don't tell me there is no mystery it over flows my cup This feast of beauty can intoxicate intoxicate intoxicate This feast of beauty can intoxicate just like the finest wine So come all you stumblers who believe love rules believe love rules believe love rules Come all you stumblers who believe love rules stand up and let it shine stand up and let it shine stand up and let it shine Yahoo! Re: [FairfieldLife] A perspective on Tom Pall
This is what is amazing about Tom P. On one hand he can post these incredibly racist and antisemetic posts, but then he can act with great compassion towards others. In fact Rick Archer posted a comment about Tom bringing an African American person to see Amma. So, go figure. --- benjaminccollins [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I have a few thoughts on the whole Tom Pall situation. Bear with me for a bit... Each Christmas time the yagya group does a special project to go to a vedic patasalas in Kanchipuram where young priests are being trained. The boys there generally range in age from 10 to about 18. In Kanchipuram they are from the villages in the area and tend to be from families who are definitely not rich. So we arrange for a special meal and for each one to receive a new cotton dhoti. It is a genuine help to them and they feel honored and we feel good doing it, particularly around Christmas time. So this year we were going to do this again for 30 boys (and an equal number of girls by the way) and I had set aside some of the sponsor money for this purpose. I posted a notice on my website and a number of people suddenly donated several hundred dollars. So I called India, and told Seetharam (our chief priest) that we have to expand the program because I had all this unexpected money. There was absolute silence in the other end of the phone. I said what...?. He said, I tell you before God, all the hairs on my body are standing on end. Earlier today the dhoti man came to my house and I thought to buy 150 dhotis; 30 for the usual students and the others so we can go to a new patasala with 120 students. I bought the dhoties wondering if I could ask Ben for more money and now you call, not knowing what I have done and the money is here. This is god's grace. Well, that's how the priests see it. These guys don't have any special powers or siddhis, so they see it as an expression of God's grace. Ok, so maybe it is circumstance and maybe not. Who cares. Its fun when it happens. The other time that I have had something like that happen is where Tom Pall enters the story. A few years ago we started doing 2 weeks of yagyas every month in India. Six priests and their families relied on our support. It freaked me out at the time because that is a lot of money month after month to be responsible for. But just as we took the first steps forward, hoping for the best, Tom Pall began to sponsor lots of yagyas; often times spending several thousand dollars each month. He played a necessary role at a critical time. I recognize that Tom Pall stepped up and helped. There was considerable generosity in what he did. Tom wants to heal himself and ultimately just wants to feel good and at peace (like we all do). Even before he and I met, Tom believed and experienced that yagyas were a way for him to experience the healing that he was searching for. What happened since then is not as important as remembering the fact that Tom, on a scale that is not common in life, saw an opportunity to help and support something worthwhile. He jumped in and committed himself completely for a long long time, just as he is with the YBC group. All of us, when we are feeling raw and wounded say and do things that ultimately we wish we could take back. And in the turmoil there is a tendency to forget all the good that preceeded it. No matter how much it may appear hidden these days, Tom has a kind, generous, considerate, and deeply spiritual side. It is too bad that it has been so obscured lately, and I hope he can rediscover it soon. Yahoo! Groups Sponsor ~-- Need Help? Get Help! He was upset that gay culture was becoming mainstream and blamed most of his personal, professional and emotional problems on the gay and lesbian movement. These fixations preoccupied him every day. Articles in magazines about gays made him agitated. He confessed that his fears had left him socially isolated and unemployed for years: A recovering alcoholic, the man even avoided 12-step meetings out of fear he might encounter a gay person. He had a fixed delusion about the world, said Sondra E. Solomon, a psychologist at the University of Vermont who treated the man for two years. He felt under attack, he felt threatened. Mental health practitioners say they regularly confront extreme forms of racism, homophobia and other prejudice in the course of therapy, and that some patients are disabled by these beliefs. As doctors increasingly weigh the effects of race and culture on mental illness, some are asking whether pathological bias ought to be an official psychiatric diagnosis. Advocates have circulated draft guidelines and have begun to conduct systematic studies. While the proposal is gaining traction, it is still in the early stages of being considered by the professionals who decide on new diagnoses. If it succeeds, it could have huge ramifications on clinical practice, employment disputes and the criminal justice system. Perpetrators of hate crimes could become candidates for treatment, and physicians would become arbiters of how to distinguish ordinary prejudice from pathological bias. Several experts said they are unsure whether bias can be pathological. Solomon, for instance, is uncomfortable with the idea. But they agreed that psychiatry has been inattentive to the effects of prejudice on mental health and illness. Has anyone done a word search for 'racism' in DSM-IV? It doesn't exist, said Carl C. Bell, a Chicago psychiatrist, referring to psychiatry's manual of mental disorders. Has anyone asked, 'If you have paranoia, do you project your hostility toward other groups?' The answer is 'Hell, no!' The proposed guidelines that California psychologist Edward Dunbar created describe people whose daily functioning is paralyzed by persistent fears and worries about other groups. The guidelines have not been endorsed by the American Psychiatric Association, which publishes the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM); advocates are mostly seeking support for systematic study. Darrel A. Regier, director of research at the psychiatric association, said he supports research into whether pathological bias is a disorder. But he said the jury is out on whether a diagnostic classification would add anything useful, given that clinicians already know about disorders in which people rigidly hold onto false beliefs. If you are going to put racism into the next edition of DSM, you would have enormous criticism, Regier said. Critics would ask, 'Are you pathologizing all of life?' You better be prepared to defend that classification. I think it's absurd, said Sally Satel, a psychiatrist and the author of PC, M.D.: How Political Correctness Is Corrupting Medicine. Satel said the diagnosis would allow hate- crime perpetrators to evade responsibility by claiming they suffered from a mental illness. You could use it as a defense. Psychiatrists who advocate a new diagnosis, such as Gary Belkin, deputy chief of psychiatry at New York's Bellevue Hospital, said social norms play a central role in how all psychiatric disorders are defined. Pedophilia is considered a disorder by psychiatrists, Belkin noted, but that does not keep child molesters from being prosecuted. Psychiatrists who are uneasy with including something like this in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual need to get used to the fact that the whole manual reflects social context, said Belkin, who is planning to launch a study on pathological bias among patients at his hospital. That is true of depression on down. Pathological bias is no more or less scientific than major depression. Advocates for the new diagnosis also say most candidates for treatment, such as the man Solomon treated, are not criminals or violent offenders. [FairfieldLife] Finding the current ashrama site..Shiva linga and tunnel to Chamundi
Life History of H.H. Sri Swamiji 163 Jaya Guru Datta Ê Chapter 14 Ê Kaivalya Padam Paduka Diksha Ê Sthala Sekharana (Finding the site) Ê The devotees were surprised to find that the members of the welfare committee had actually felt sorry on seeing Swamy express his distress in public. They had really started to look for a site and thought they found a suitable site. The site had a drainage canal nearby. If the canal was full, it was possible to get filled with sewage water and the area would be drowned in the horrible smell of the sewage. Ramaswamy, Narayana Rao and few elders were not happy with the site. Anantarama Bhat, Nagappa, Ramaswamy, the owners of the Vishnu Coffee works and few others saw another site in Nanjangud road and felt it to be a better site. One day Swamy gathered few devotees around him and said, Time has come to move out of this place. Please make the necessary arrangements. The devotees went on a discussion on this issue for nearly 4 hours and did not get anywhere. Finally one devotee stood up and said, I am a committee member, and without its permission Swamy should not enter into any negotiations, buy or sell land or let somebody buy or sell land on his behalf, and he should not encourage any business transactions or approve of it. It will all be against the constitution.Anantarama Bhat who was getting hungry by that time could not stand this silly argument. He shouted back, Myself and few of my friends have decided to contribute whatever we can afford and buy the land. Why should you worry? No other members had any objection to this proposal and the committee members shut their mouth for few days. Immediately, Anantarama Bhat placed Rs.1,000/- at the feet of Swamy. Nagappa followed with Rs.1,000/-, proprietors of the Vishnu coffee works pledged Rs.1,000/-, Krishna Swamy's father pledged Rs.500/- and there was Rs.1,000/- collection in the hundi box. All in all it came to Rs.4,500/-. The site they had looked at Nanjangud road was for Rs.9,000/-. The members agreed to proceed with the purchase of that land and concluded the lengthy meeting that night by 10 pm. One day, few elder members like Ramaswamy, Nagappa took Swamy to the site. It was the same site Swamy had shown to his brother Nanjundiah 18 months ago. Swamy carefully went round the site in detail, made some enquiries about it and finally asked others, Do you like it?Yes, we all liked it very much, they replied. Then I like it too. Proceed without delay and conduct the necessary transactions,Swamy advised them. On the way back Swamy told Ramaswamy, Tata, just wait and see how this place will flourish as an ashrama. It was nearly 3 ½ acres of land and originally belonged to the kings of Mysore. One of the royal ancestors was a yogi, an Upasaka of Dattatreya. As the Upasana of Dattatreya was traditionally carried on by generations, Sree Jayachamarajendra, the king in the early part of the 20th century, wrote a detailed voluminous book on Dattatreya. It was later translated into English and Telugu. That yogi had constructed an underground tunnel at this site and installed the Shiva Lingam at its entrance. In front of the Shiva Lingam on a pillar he had installed Nandi(1). The entrance was facing to the east and directly overlooking the Chamundi Hills. Inside at every step, he had plaques with OMwritten on each of them. Near the cave he had planted a Shammi(2)tree, which is considered highly auspicious. Many believe that he had constructed an underground tunnel from the cave all the way to the Chamundi temple. Nearby he had also constructed a well but that well was not part of the site for sale. Part of the site was used for agriculture and the rest had mango, cocoanut and tamarind trees. It was an uneven site filled with plenty of rocks. There was a guard for the site and he lived in a small shed constructed on the site. After independence, the Royalty in India gradually lost their role and as a consequence lost several of their properties. This site was taken over by Venkatawamy, a PWD engineer. He was a friend of Ramaswamy but somehow Ramaswamy could not get his friend complete the deal quickly. Ramaswamy was perturbed and one day confided in Swamy about this worry in the delay to acquire the site. Swamy said, Do not worry, go tomorrow evening and the work would be completed to your satisfaction. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sacredlifeofswamiji/ This Yahoo group contains the complete story from the beginning . Satyam, or Satyanarayana referred to here was Sri Swamiji's name as a child. Later references to Swamy are to Him as well. [FairfieldLife] rediscovering the dhyana aspect of Indian music
Inauguration of Nada Mantapa Raga Ragini Samudaya Bhavan ADDRESS OF THE HONORABLE VICE-PRESIDENT OF INDIA, SRI KRISHAN KANT, AT THE INAUGURATION OF THE NEWLY CONSTRUCTED RAGA RAGINI NADA MANTAPA AUDITORIUM ON 31st MAY, 1998 AT AVADHOOTA DATTA PEETHAM, MYSORE It is with a great sense of pleasure and satisfaction that I inaugurate this imposing auditorium- Raga Ragini Nada Mantapa inspired by His Holiness Jagadguru Datta Peethadhipati Sri Ganapati Sachchidananda Swamiji. This concert hall- the Mantapa, will long serve the cause of music and remain a monument to Swamiji's untiring efforts to make the people of the world aware of the grandeur of Indian music and its many less- known uses. I have had the good fortune of observing Swamiji's musical genius and power to inspire and command the adherence both of the musically gifted and the lay. The residents of Mysore are exceptionally lucky to receive this gift of love from Swamiji. To Swamiji goes the singular credit of distilling from music, its therapeutic uses which lay buried in the accumulating sands of time. There are many who have benefited from his blessings and many more are waiting to receive them. Dhyana Sangeeta is one of the several inherent attributes of music. Only through painstaking research and insightful analysis has Swamiji succeeded in rediscovering the dhyana aspect of our music. We all owe to him a great debt of gratitude. The musical traditions of India are our culture's enduring legacies. Our music is one of the oldest in the world, going back to the Vedic times. It is essentially melodic and has retained that character till this day. The two great systems of Indian music, Hindustani and Carnatic, have the same basis and common roots. They are melodic and are governed by the rules of Raga and Tala structures. Coming down to the present from the ancient times, the common roots of our apparently different systems of music, tell the story of a cultural synthesis which distinguishes our civilization. From Kashmir to Kanyakumari, the people of India, regardless of caste, creed or region, understand, appreciate and instinctively relate to Indian musical traditions. Whether it is simple folk music or the sophisticated classical form, the music of India unites us all in a subconscious oneness. In our philosophical traditions music is one of the path ways to the Brahma. It is an aspect of the supreme reality. In Vedic literature, one comes across the concept of Nada Brahma, the absolute sound-principle. The Vedas say:- CHAITANYA SARVA BUTHANAM VIVRUTHAM JAGADATHMANA NADA BRAHMA THADANANDAM ADHVITIYA MRUPASAYE We worship Nada Brahma, that incomparable bliss which is immanent in all the creatures as intelligence and is manifest in the phenomenon of this universe. Sangeet Ratnakar also uses the Vedic idiom to describe Nada Brahma as the ultimate principle of sound, the source of the delight of music. It is remarkable how the aesthetic and the spiritual are synthesized and find a common expression in the ancient music of India. Given this spiritual origin of our music, it is nothing surprising if this medium was used by Saints to reach out to the hearts and the minds of the people. Be it Kabir, Mira, Purandardas, Jaidev, Ameer Khusro or Tansen, they all found in music a powerful means of communication of subtle thoughts and ideas to the people. To many, music became both a medium and an object of worship and benediction. Through simple bhajans, abhangas and Kirtans, the most profound mystic truths and socially reformative ideas were conveyed to the society. Indian life is filled with music. It is many-hued spectrum ranging from the simple to the sophisticated, encompassing the grunts and the shrieks of the Nagas and the Todas, to the uncommn sophistication of concert music. Indian music has this unique power to elicit, not only physical and cerebral, but also the spiritual response from the people. There is ecstasy in Shri Chaitanya's chant of Hari Hari Bol and the Sufi's plaintive cry for his beloved. All reveal the integrity of the spiritual personality of man. Music is the way to spiritual wisdom, beyond faith, belief and religions. The Vedas say:- YEK MAPIHI BRAHMA VIMUTHI MEDE ANEK THA VUPASPATHE YITHI STHITHI Brahma, although one, owing to the plurality of its powers is meditated upon in more than one ways. Rumi- the Sufi Mystic, echoes the same thought when he says- By loving (spiritual) wisdom doth the soul know life. What has it got to do with senseless strife of Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Arab, Turk? The Greek Philosopher Plato described Music as the harmony of the soul. Musical learning was the highest form of education and enabled the seeker to transcend the limits both of the body and the intellect. In all philosophic traditions, the world over, the transcendental aspect of music has been recognized. Some of India's finest music

Does that make any sense? The entire first section of the Shiva-sutra describes Shambhava upaya--the yoga of spontaneous manifestation of the I- consciousness of Shiva, and the sudden emergence of the individual experience Shivoham (or udyamo bhairava I:5), I am Shiva. It is the highest (read: most direct) of all three upayas in this agama. This means that this presence of spontaneous I-consciousness of Shiva is a witness which runs continuously and uninterruptedly through all three states of consciousness. This is not mere saksi (witness- consciousness) but Ishvara-Saksi -- God-witness. In fact, it's not the same witness as in Shankara at all, it is vimarsha (world- mirror) which is filled with the bhoga (ecstasy) of turiya. Abhoga = Camatkara That's interesting - and, well, surprising! BTW, I just noticed that turyaabhoga could in priciple be sandhi for (at least) turya + aa_bhoga (enjoyment) and turya + a_bhoga (non-enjoyment). That's an example of how for instance sandhi of 'a' makes Sanskrit texts ambiguous. Also why a sutra always requires an enlightened commentary--in this case the Vimarshini. Sorry, I don't actually quite understand what you mean by abhoga = camatkara. Yahoo! Groups Sponsor ~-- Ever feel sad or cry for no reason at all? Depression. Too bad they didn't get him like they did that other mass- murderer Che Guevara. Castro is responsible for about 50,000 deaths and enslaving 11 million Cubans. Could you imagine the out cry had they been successful? Ramsey Clark could have jump started his hate America carrier in the early sixties! Castro was small potatoes compared to Saddam who killed maybe 2 million and enslaved 24 million Iraqis under slightly similar circumstances. However no Invincibility awards for Mr. Hussein. Yet ! Alot of the anti-Bushies on this forum would just LOVE to have the pre-U.S.-invasion status quo back so that Saddam and his kinder would be free to murder more. I am very firmly anti-Bush because he is so anti-American. Having said that, we sure cherry pick our dictators to get outraged over don't we? There were enough in the collective consciousness of the US who, following 9/11, resisted their ability to determine why we were attacked, primarily by Saudi Arabian radicals, and instead decided that they were angry, and it was someone's fault in the Middle East. The Bushies, wanting to take over Iraq for awhile due to its strategic oil value, and to finish a war that Bush the first began, decided Iraq was the target. This high handed crap about removing an oppressive dictator and setting the Iraqis free is politically self-serving, and defames the true ideal of liberty which this country was founded on. That oil was a major factor in which dictator we chose to depose is one I will readily acknowledge. And what's wrong with that? I use gas on a daily basis, don't you? So what's so wrong about factoring in that as part of our decision- making? Nothing is wrong with securing our interests and putting our efforts towards that end. And per your last post, maybe people meditating is the answer. It certainly can't hurt. However, we have all of this legal, diplomatic and economic leverage at our disposal (the US I mean), and it just seems so cynical, inhumane and lazy to me to try it out a little bit whenever conflict is brewing, then declare it unworkable, and as long as our adversary doesn't have nuclear capability, just say f*ck it and start a war on them. I don't know if you are referring above to the Iraq invasion, but how do you feel about the fact that there were no less than 17 U.N. resolutions asking Iraq to comply to WMD inspections, all of which came about because Iraq was NOT complying? Yes, as you say above, we have alot of diplomatic arsenal at our disposal to use and benefit from BEFORE we go to war, but when is time to say enough is enough? 10 years and 17 resolutions seems, to me, to be WAY more than enough. And, hey, did the U.S. really just say fuck it and start a war? No, they give such incredibly AMPLE warning. Iraqis -- and the rest of the world for that matter -- KNEW that the U.S. was going to invade. In wasn't in the middle of the night like Germany marching into Czechoslovakia or the Soviet Union into Afghanistan. Sure there are inefficiencies and lack of coherence and great difficulties in reaching a diplomatic consesus and/or enforcing economic sanctions, but going the extra mile is well worth the lives spared. To have created all of our alternatives to war, and then so easily be willing to kill in this supposedly modern age is just such an affront to all of us. ...so easily be willing to kill Thanks to the wonderful, incredible military technology of the United States, the killing of civilians were kept to a minimum. Re: [FairfieldLife] Re: FFL's Adult Yahoo Category
My letter to Yahoo: I am the founder and moderator of FairfieldLife - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FairfieldLife/. As the group description indicates, we discuss a broad range of topics, but the discussions are generally related to spirituality. The group should be in the Religion Beliefs Spirituality category (http://dir.groups.yahoo.com/dir/Religion___Beliefs/Spirituality) and I think that's where I originally put it. But recently it was moved to the Romance_Relationships/Adult category (http://dir.groups.yahoo.com/dir/Romance___Relationships/Adult). I don't know whether a human Yahoo editor moved it or it was moved automatically because certain words were used in some post or because the words sexuality and homosexuality are used in the group description. Whatever the reason, romance, relationships and other adult topics are seldom, if ever, discussed on FairfieldLife. I would like to request that you reassign us to the Religion Beliefs Spirituality category. Being in the adult category is an undeserved handicap. Users can't access the group on public computers, such as in libraries, FairfieldLife no longer comes up in Find a Group searches within http://groups.yahoo.com/, and there are probably other problems that I haven't discovered yet. If you would like me to edit the group description or impose restrictions on members to prevent our being assigned to the adult category in the future, I would be happy to. Please notify me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thank you. Rick Archer I'll probably have to send this more than once, so if anyone wants to suggest changes or improvements, I'm open to them. on 12/11/05 10:20 AM, Rick Archer at [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: on 12/11/05 9:36 AM, uns_tressor at [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: It would be good if the Moderator is sent a copy of the email that Yahoo received to get FFL transferred from wherever it was to Romance_Relationships/Adult, which seems peposterous when one sees all the caterwailing that goes on. Re: [FairfieldLife] For Vaj -- lyrics to a new Cockburn song
Thanks, I hadn't heard that one, which is apparently from 2004. On his current solo tour, he doing two other new ones you can read about on cockburnproject.netThey say:Editors Note: This song, Mystery, was first played in front of humans on 26 May 2004, at Blackheath Halls in South London. Lyrics were transcribed by Bobbi Wisby, with thanks and additional lyrics supplied by Geraint Rees. Lyric corrections added by Eric transcribed from the State Theatre in Ithaca, NY show. Known comments by Bruce Cockburn about this song, by date:26 May 2004 This is the lead-in to Mystery, transcribed from the Blackheath Halls show in South London: audience calls outs for Peggy's Kitchen Wall.. lots of laughter and Bruce saying, "so many songs so little time", with more calling of song titles, and Bruce responds, "in order not to play favorites", "I am gonna do something none of you know, I am not even sure I know this one, it's quite new." "This is called Mystery." "I went to Baghdad back in January, it was a pretty short visit but it was packed with meeting of people and I think I came away with at least as much understanding of the situation as your basic CNN person, perhaps more, having a different agenda to start with. And I labored for a long time to get a song about Baghdad. You know, you can't go to a place like Baghdad looking for song material, its obscene. But, of course every time I go anywhere I always hope that there will be a song come out of it. And eventually there was one, but I haven't learned to play it so I'm not gonna do it for you. (laughter) But, right after I wrote it, I had been sort of feeling creativly constipated, for these many months, like trying to write this song about Baghdad. When it finally came, it paved the way, unleashed a torrent even, of a, (laughter) that's a very, sort of, unfortunate metaphor, sorry about that. This song was one of the songs that followed the writing of that song, I might try it after, so I'll play this one, as I know it a little better. But, it's called Mystery, it's kind of about that."-- from a live concert statement, transcribed by Bobbi Wisby, from the 26 May 2004, Blackheath Halls show in South London.29 October 2004 After much yelling of requests, Bruce said "While there have been many worthy requests, and they have been noted, I'm going to sing one... (pause) I might have heard someone ask for this, but I'm not sure. (laughter from audience) So I'm going to treat it as if I did. (loud audience laughter) I'm not sure how that happened, well I guess I do. This is a new song (audience laughter again). I have sung it in front of people before, and I'm sure it has turned up out there in the ether of the internet somewhere, since somebody knew enough to ask for it. This is called "Mystery" (Victoria Bouffard, the requester, calls out "Thank you!!") and that is what it is about."-- from a live concert transcribed by Eric, from the 29 October 2004, State Theatre in Ithaca, NY showOn Dec 11, 2005, at 6:35 AM, TurquoiseB wrote:I haven't heard the music that goes with this, but thesentiment strikes a resonance. I don't know that you want to aquiesce in advance, without any qualification, to imposing restrictions on posts here, Rick. That doesn't leave you with any wiggle room for negotiation. How about, If you would like to suggest changes in the group description or restrictions on posting language, I'll be happy to consider them? Don't make it too clearly a quid pro quo, and don't sound as though you're willing to rewrite the description and clamp down on members according to Yahoo's slightest whims (even if you would be if push came to shove). The teacher merely introduces the state and the student instantly recognizes it as his or her own nature. If you are not familiar with this style of transmission, it might not make any sense at all. It is said that the type of person who is ready for this type of transmission is already in the completely thought-free state when s/he approaches the teacher. There really is no path per se to traverse, no practices to undertake but relies entirely on the master's grace. That's why this Shambhava-upaya is for the few, it is only for the student who is of the highest evolution already. Each upaya/section/chapter of the shiva-sutra refers back to one encapsulating verse, in this case caitanyamatma (SS 1:1) -- "Universal Consciousness is one's own nature" is a "sudden" realization, not a gradual one; it encapsulates the Shambhava-upaya. Although the brutally cynical posters on this board will never acknowledge it, MSAE has a remarkable record of significant achievement. See the list compiled below, which I have taken from the MSAE website. Okay, maybe I'm shooting from the hip cause I'm jumping in on this thread, but is it so difficult to train or inspire kids to be high achievers? I always had the impression that MSAE and the MIU community had something to prove with MSAE. That even though we were fringe, we could out-achieve, out-perform the traditional segment. And that this was a kind of mission. Here's the true test. How well adjusted are these kids? As everywhere else, high-achievement and/or creative kids tend to come from similar type family env'ts. I've known several ru families here who have taken their kids out of msae due to disappointment with the loss of good teachers and fear of declining academics, but eventually put their kids back because they felt the more nurturing env't at msae allow their kid's unique talents to come out more. A smart sensitive and creative child from a stable ru home is likely to thrive at msae, esp in extracurriculars. Unfortunately the once great drama dept is in decline due to the recent enforced separation of the genders. There are still some excellent devoted athletic coaches plus great options like destination-imagination. But due to demographic based declining enrollment, this may be the last year for successful sports teams. Lots of unstable ru families here in ffd over the yrs which I think was the main cause of the drug situation there, which was once significant but seems to be way down now from what I hear. If your child has any sort of learning problem, they'll most likely be steered out of msae and into the public school system, an advantage that all private schools enjoy. Regarding overall adjustment, msae kids who go on to normal colleges seem to do just fine if not better than avg, but those who go onto mum and stay within the coccon have been known to have superiority issues and to wander around in life a bit. Re: [FairfieldLife] Re: FFL's Adult Yahoo Category
Good letter, Rick --- Rick Archer [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: My letter to Yahoo: I am the founder and moderator of FairfieldLife - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FairfieldLife/. I smell a malicious intention. Uns. I am the moderator, as you know, and I haven't been sent anything. We don't know why the switch occurred. Someone may have complained to them that we are using cuss words and discussing adult topics, or it may even be an automatic switch because I have words like sexuality and homosexuality in the group description. I'm going to try to get to the bottom of it. Yahoo! Groups Sponsor ~-- Drugs Don't Discriminate. Also a lot of work moving file and photo sections, and emailing 1,030 members to tell them we've moved. Is it just me, or does it seem that everything that works for me gets screwed up. I mean, say you buy a certain tennis shoe at Walmart year in, year out. One day you go in - they change the fit. You have a favorite candy you buy regularly, then it gets taken off the market. Just little s**t like this, day in, day out. Now this hassle with Yahoo. Just figures. And it eats up a lot of the hosts time. It's a minor annoyance to most of us but one fellow in the UK said he reads FFL on a public library computer and can no longer get in because of its adult classification. If this is the result of someone complaining to Yahoo, then I'd say they have a serious case of if you don't play my way I'm taking my football and going home syndrome. Multiply that tendency 1,000 times and you have a terrorist blowing up innocent people.
