Hi I don't have this problem... Neither on the linux build, nor on the windows build (tested right now via virtualbox) probably you have 3 GHz CPU Keypresses are queued indeed, and I purposely don't 'eat them away' because it allows to play in advance (esp. useful when moving an atom around, so I can press all directions, and wait until the atom reaches its destination). I don't understand ... but could you eat away all but 2 or all but 1 very last keypress to keep it useful for you and fix the BUG on slow CPU ? My theory is that on your system, it takes more time to draw the moving-box animation than it takes SDL to repeat the keypress.. the only reason I can see why this would happen is because of lack of performance That's what I suspected too noticed any CPU usage spike when playing? I have a constant power CPU fan, impossible to detect CPU usage spike :-( But of course I'll happily accept any patches, should anyone get the motivation to make the game noticeably smaller. [Freedos-user] Windows 98SE screwing up Freedos 1.1 Worx for me with METAKERN. Is there a simple way to repair the freedos installation so that Windows and Freedos can happily coexist? YES. Backup Windaube98 BS, fix FreeDOS, backup FreeDOS BS, set up METAKERN with those 2 BS's. Looks like freedos command.com got renamed to command.dos and I've already renamed autoexec.bat to fdauto.bat, but fdconfig.sys seems to be missing. Make sure NOT TO HAVE OR USE command.com autoexec.bat and config.sys for FreeDOS, especially during installing Windaube. Rename them BEFORE. ReactOS would support these old games, but there hasn't been another release for months and I can't even get the latest trunk to build. I din't try ReactOS + METAKERN (use FREELDR instead ???), other ReactorOS stuff belongs into ReactOS forums. Running an unlicensed copy of 98 is not the best idea where there's the issue of 98 having a lot of bugs and being out of support. :-D -- LogMeIn Rescue: Anywhere, Anytime Remote support for IT. I would imagine that Freedos in 16 bit mode can't use multiple cores It can't actively take benefit from them, but it still runs, FYI  One of the problems with DOS that I recall is a total lack of hardware protection Right. Unfortunately, accessing hardware directly instead of through a __well__ __defined__ __interface__ makes supporting that software a nightmare. Right. Do you know an OS with such a __well__ __defined__ __interface__ ??? I'm thinking the goal for protected mode Freedos that is 32 or 64 bit should be providing a hypervisor to run multiple instances of 16 bit Freedos or even Linux instances. I'm sufficiently happy with ONE FreeDOS-16 instance and ZERO Loonix instances. ReactOS is possibly a decade out from being stable. Please bug on ReactOS forum about this. I think there were some ideas about DOS extenders for using multi core multithreading within DOS apps HX 2.15 + 7-ZIP ... never came out. pbzip2 compresses multiple parts of a file in parallel, so you can compress one large file much faster by using many cores 1. Needs =16 GiB RAM for file cache (and input should be 8 GiB) Why would I take the effort to port mencoder It's useless ;-) Yes I can imagine making 1000 thumbnails in DOS or compressing a CD-ROM ISO with pbzip2 in DOS in theory. Why theory only ? Re: [Freedos-user] dos backups in the 21st century?
Given the size of hard rives, using trusty pkip to create a set of backup discs is well not possible. No need to backup disk image ;-) how you do large backup work yourself now? say 3 gig or so? Copy gig files or archive and compress then. Personally, I'd probably just burn the files to DVD-RW from within a modern OS, esp. if you only need to backup 3 GB. FYI, there are adapters to make an internal IDE HD somewhat exchangable. So, add the backup HD, copy bloat, remove the backup HD. I forget, what are the limits for the .ZIP format, 65000 files? And 4 GiB for any size. -- Get a FREE DOWNLOAD! and learn more about uberSVN rich system, user administration capabilities and model configuration. Re: [Freedos-user] How to install multiple instances..?
Lots of software (especially driver installers) still depends on CONFIG.SYS existing Bad hehaviour. Probably for same reason NTVDM always brews empty MSDOS.SYS and IO.SYS files whenever launched. Re: [Freedos-user] How to install multiple instances..?
Could someone tell me if it's possible to have multiple instances of (Free)DOS installed to the same partition? YES. Unfortunately, the kernel looks for FDCONFIG.SYS and CONFIG.SYS only (I'd kick the latter, BTW), so all FreeDOS kernels will share this one file, except you patch the kernel. You can boot multiple kernels using METAKERN. It works great, but needs some manual setup. You can drop FreeDOS, EDRDOS and ME on same partition, but you MUST use FDCONFIG.SYS , DCONFIG.SYS , FDAUTO.BAT and DRAUTO.BAT. There is absolutely no need to dig out old dead 1.0 distro utils from their graves ;-) To test multiple kernels, the easiest solution is to rename them all (KERNEL36.SYS KERNEL38.SYS KERNEL40.SYS) and then COPY KERNEL38.SYS KERNEL.SYS boom (CTL-ALT-DEL) (test 2038) COPY KERNEL40.SYS KERNEL.SYS boom (CTL-ALT-DEL) (test 2040) Would this be a good time (doubtful) to suggest XCHG as a mnemonic for swapping filenames? + 1 or SWAP ;-) I need this frequently too. -- BlackBerryreg; DevCon Americas, Oct. 18-20, San Francisco, CA The must-attend event for mobile developers.
