[Audyssey] Other games i need more info about

2008-11-07 Thread dark
Hi.

As well as bridge Baron, I'm also looking for more information about the
Talking maze game from Rwf software http://www.rwfts.com/

and future Boy from general coffee company
http://www.generalcoffee.com/futureboy/about.html

These do not have downloadable demos, so all I've been able to do is paraphrase
what's on their sites, which isn't good.
I'm also looking for information about super football (which i remember trying
a couple of years ago), Armadillo army and talking word puzles (which demos
crashed on me when i tried them), and the interactive fiction from malinch
entertainment.

I'll try and play these myself so as to give them a fair hereing, but it
might take me a while.

thanks in advance.

Dark.

[Audyssey] Bridge Baron info wanted

2008-11-07 Thread dark
Hi.

Oncemore this is a question about updating the audiogames.net database.

on the website for Bridge Baron, http://www.greatgameproducts.com/home.shtml it
lists a hole load of other bridge related tools, such as a coach program and
tournament challenges.

If anyone has tried these, i was wondering how accessible they were, I
assume they use the standard bridge Baron interface but I'm not certain.

then, how about the Poker program they mention?

the easiest solution would be to try the game myself, but as I know nothing at
all about that bit in Moon raker with james bond and Hugo dracs, i probably
couldn't give a very good report, besides, i don't know if the tutorial
programs and others are available along with the demo.

I do want though to give Bridge Baron a fair review on the index page, if it is
indeed accessible, and the same goes for all the bridge playing tools involved
as well.

thanks in advance,

Dark.

Re: [Audyssey] Other games i need more info about

done, see the news post on the front of the site for details.

Unfortunately sinse Richard and Sander the Webmasters, and Cx2 the other
admin are busy, you guys seems to refer mostly to me at the moment Liam.

Updating the Lworks entries is certainly on my list of things to do,
but at the moment the major goal is to actually get the database fully up to
date with everything in the Pcs games list (at least all the ones that are
stil available), pluss some other online games and random litle resources.

this is quite a task, but now at least it is progressing forward, ---
if slowly.

Oh, btw, the database isn't in anyway intended as a replacement for Phil's
list. phil's done a great job, and is continuing to do so, and his list is a
brilliant way of finding links to the latest games.

the audiogames.net database is intended to provide a bit more information on
each game, with links to reviews, forums and other resources on the game
pages. Pluss, it lets people new to audiogames search by genre or license
type, which is obviously helpful.

Hi Danie.

thanks, I do appreciate knowing that people are finding the network helpful.

At least some of the games on there are no longer available or available
elsewhere, and yes, I'll try and fix this, though it might take a
while. Just keep checking the news on Audiogames.net, sinse updates will be
announced there.

I have the ttalking maze game and basically you just use your arrow keys to
go from level to level but you also need to be careful you don't hit the
wall or you loose points. It gets harder as you go from level to level.

[Audyssey] Top 5 Games this Christmas

2008-11-07 Thread Jason Bell
Hello All,

I have posted a similar message on Audiogames.net and Dark there also
suggested I post here.

I'm new to accessible games so please bear with me. I work on the
webteam at the UK charity Action for Blind People and I would like to
start promoting accessible games through our site.

As a starter I thought it would be a good idea to post a 'Top 5 Games
this Christmas' list which I would like to develop further in the New
Year possibly with reviews but more likely with promotion of and links
to AudioGames.net and Audyssey.org and their users.

I'm not entirely sure how it might work if we don't have a definitive
list to vote on to begin with. So with Dark's help I thought maybe we
could run a submissions form on the Action for Blind People website
where everybody could submit their favourite games by interface type;

*Text based

*3D Audio game

*2D Audio game

Interface type is for simplicity reasons. At the moment I don't know
enough about the games to be getting involved in genre listings and
would like to keep it simple this time round. Maybe we could look to
develop this in the New Year. After a week of submissions I will count
them up and put the top games up in each category for a public vote from
which we would have a 'Top Games this Christmas' winners list

Slightly crude I know but it would be a start. I don't think the polling
system we have on the Action site is sophisticated enough to run a
proper poll with a number of lists but I will investigate further.

Any suggestions or help greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
Jason

Re: [Audyssey] goldwave game recording question

My advice is to stick to the R09. I tried many times to record podcasts
using m old mic and the built-in mixer on my Laptop and always my voice was

Hi.

well, I think i'm just going to give up on the hole R09 for game reviews
situation and try goldwave again. I did attempt this a couple of years
ago, and didn't find it too Hal friendldly, however that was also a fair
few Hal versions and one Hal map file ago, so hopefully the situation has
improved.

I know there are tutorials on Bct, and I'll certainly have a listen to
them, but just one quick question first.

I presume it is possible to record both the sterrio output from my
computer, - ie a game, and my voice through my usb mike?

Any information would be appreciated, - and yes I do appologise for
having asked this before.

Nope. No speech engine. Sorry.
Btw. It's possible they read those, but I kind of doubt it.
I've emailed major Nelson, so hopefully he'll acknowledge that there are
blind people out there. Remember. A speech engine wouldn't be worth it for
the sighted population, so they probably won't do it.

2008-11-07 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Liam,
I have to agree here. Most of the time when you send an e-mail to one
of those public addresses for the XBox, Play Station, etc all you are
going to get is a canned reply. They don't actually respond to you as
a person, but just send you an automatic responce saying they are
working on new features, don't say what they are, and thanking you for
your suggestions.
The reply Marvin got back is extremely par for the course. If you read
that canned reply and believe that it means they are adding TTS
support in the next XBox you are seriously setting yourself up for a
disappointment. Every major company has a canned speal they send to
interested customers, and this one is absolutely no different. The
vocabulary and text might be different, but it all comes down to the
same thing. That is a bunch of bologna without anything else in it.

Hi Hanna,
I have just corrected your Audyssey subscription. What happens is
first time posters have to be approved by the owner or moderators
before messages can get through to the list. However, the Audyssey

I have the ttalking maze game and basically you just use your arrow keys to
go from level to level but you also need to be careful you don't hit the
wall or you loose points. It gets harder as you go from level to level.

I'll try and play these myself so as to give them a fair hereing, but

Re: [Audyssey] Top 5 Games this Christmas

2008-11-07 Thread Thomas Ward
Hello Jason,
I think this is a fantastic idea. Though, at the moment the majority
of accessible games seam to fall into two major catagories. the first
is board and card games. The second is classic arcade. There is a
third catagory of FPS games like Sarah, Shades of Doom, and Monkey
Business that is starting to get more interest.
Now, by top five Christmas games I am assuming these would exclude any
and all free games. That drastically shrinks the game pool a lot. For
example, Jim Kitchen's games are all free, but nice little time
waisters. The Games for the Blind has some similar games like
Battleship, Yatzi, etc but they are not free. As a result you would
end up with a very scued comparison between Jim's games and Games For
the Blind's projects. Most of us like Jim's games because they are
free, and they use Sapi 5 directly. That isn't saying Games For the
Blind's Yatzi is any better or worse than Jim's version, but everyone
I know has a preference for Jim Kitchen's version. So if you excluded
Jim's games based on price then someone like Games For The Blind would
automatically get ranked higher then it normally would get if it was
polled side by side with Jim Kitchen's versions of the same games.
I'm saying all of this to say that polling for the top five Christmas
games isn't as easy as you think. We are a very small community of
developers and as a result there is a lot of issues to figure out
before running a poll. GMA Games makes games like Shades of Doom,
Lonewolf, and GMA Tank Commander, which are certainly among the higher
end of accessible gaming. They are liked for their replay value and
realism. Unfortunately, until my own Genesis engine is completed there
really isn't anything else to compare them to. Lonewolf and Tank
Commander are a one of a kind games. I wouldn't consider trying to
compare them to Super Liam, Troopenum, etc because it comes down to
comparing apples and oranges. You might get away with comparing Sarah
with Shades of Doom which is alright since they are both FPS titles,
but different genres.
You run into a similar issue with say side-scrollers. Right now
officially there are only two or three. I think they are Hunter,
Tarzan JR., and Super Liam. Hunter and Super Liam are both commercial,
but Tarzan has gone freeware. I am also currently developing a
side-scroller called Mysteries of the Ancients, but it won't b ready
for the Christmas season.

On 11/5/08, Jason Bell [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

So with Dark's help I thought maybe we
could run a submissions form on the Action for Blind People website
 where everybody could submit their favourite games by interface type;

 Many thanks
 Jason

the reason i can't find out more about it is that for some reason Rwf are no

Hi Djc.

glad to know you've got the game.

could you please give me some more information about it? As it is a retaile
only game, I'd like the page on audiogames.net to be fairly explicite.

do you just use the arrow keys? what are the check status keys ie, chekc
coordinates? how do levels of difficulty work? is the game audio any good,
and what does it use, dialogue boxes, sapi or recorded speech?

How is the scoring and competition in the game, and can you create your own
mazes?

Sorry about the inquisition, but as I said, I'd like a fairly complete entry
on this game if possible.

Re: [Audyssey] goldwave game recording question

2008-11-07 Thread dark

How is your mike Bryan?

I've got the usb one I've been using for Skype, and when I tried the bog
standard windows recorder it seemed to come out okay.

Much as I like my R09, I'm stil limited to only recording games I can play
on speakers, which isn't many.

I'd love to review and or do walkthroughs for some games, Terraformers
for instance, but I just don't dare to even begin think about playing that
without some fairly decent headphones.

My advice is to stick to the R09. I tried many times to record podcasts

was overridden by the game. I could never manage to find that happy

Hi.

well, I think i'm just going to give up on the hole R09 for game reviews
situation and try goldwave again.

Re: [Audyssey] Mod's attention, subscription problems

2008-11-07 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Dark,
I have just fixed Jason's issues with the Audyssey list a few moments
ago. As I just told Hanna first time posters have to be aproved by the
moderators and that is made quite clear in the guidelines sent to
every new member who subscribes to the list. However, because of
issues with my USA Games server etc I had missed several subscription
notifications and first time posts to be approved so Jason, Hanna, and
others got overlooked longer than usual.
Anyway, your contact information for me is incorrect. there are
several ways you can contact me and the rest of the moderators of the
list.
First,if you need to contact any or all of the moderators you can send
an e-mail to
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
and Kevin, Raul, and myself will all receive the post.
Second, if you want to send a message to me personally the quickest
way is to send it to my USA Games e-mail address
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
and I'll get it fairly quickly. I monitor that address twice a day so
I generally consider it my primary e-mail address.
I also have this gmail.com address
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
which I use when the USA Games mail server is down or when I am away from home.
I only check it roughly two to three times a week so responces to the
gmail address is the slowest way to reach me.
Cheers!

No problem. I do actually think taking down their demo wasn't such a good
idea, but iI suppose things are up to them, and if they are having band
width costs that's fair enough.

Wow Matheus, thanks! I'll look forward to trying the game sinse it actually
sounded interesting in it's own right, and thus far I haven't even been able
to try the trailor, sinse it uses quick time and I haven't bothered
installing that yet.

It is most odd though, sinse going to
http://www.generalcoffee.com/futureboy/demo.html there are no links on the
page and just the message The futureboy demo is not available for download

Hmmm, obviously they are stil hosting the file, but not putting links to

Why not just list the 20 top games in two categories either free or

As a starter I thought it would be a good idea to post a 'Top 5 Games

Year possibly with reviews but more likely with promotion of and links
to AudioGames.net and Audyssey.org and their users.

I'm not entirely sure how it might work if we don't have a definitive
list to vote on to begin with. So with Dark's help I thought maybe we
could run a submissions form on the Action for Blind People website
where everybody could submit their favourite games by interface type;

Many thanks

Re: [Audyssey] Top 5 Games this Christmas

2008-11-07 Thread dark

che, you absolutely preempted me here.

Personally I was thinking of self-voicing and screen reader required as the
two catagories (with Sapi counting as self-voicing of course), sinse that
way games like Sryth or Miriani could be thrown into the mix as well without
confusing things too much.

Look at other computer games competitions like donationcoder.com or the Indi
games show case.

In said show case, the winner was an Rpg, the 2nd place a side scrolling
shooter, the 3rd I believe a dungeon crawler and so on. It was all done on
votes.

I must admit, where people like gamesfortheblind are concerned if a
commercial company hasn't done their markit research on what is available
already, I've not got too much sympathy.

the fact that we have some really dedicated developers of free games should
just let commercial companies know that they have to push the boat out a bit
if they want people to buy their games. Afterall, can you imagine the
reaction you'd get if someone tried to sell a basic graphical black jack
game, even leaving aside the gaming mega coorporations and just
considdering other small, independently developed programs and games sold
over the internet.

standard windows recorder it seemed to come out okay.

Much as I like my R09, I'm stil limited to only recording games I can play
on speakers, which isn't many.

I'd love to review and or do walkthroughs for some games,
Terraformers for instance, but I just don't dare to even begin think about
playing that without some fairly decent headphones.

My advice is to stick to the R09. I tried many times to record podcasts
using m old mic and the built-in mixer on my Laptop and always my voice
was overridden by the game. I could never manage to find that happy
medium.

Hi.

well, I think i'm just going to give up on the hole R09 for game reviews
situation and try goldwave again. I did attempt this a couple of years
ago, and didn't find it too Hal friendldly, however that was also a fair
few Hal versions and one Hal map file ago, so hopefully the situation
has improved.

Re: [Audyssey] Top 5 Games this Christmas

2008-11-07 Thread Chris Hallsworth
Hi I'm interested in Tarzan Junior but I couldn't download it due to a 404
page not found error. Are the developers still making this game? Or are they
unlike DanZ games in that they've just disappeared off the face of the
earth? It looks like www.pb-games.com has been hacked too as the content has
absolutely nothing to do with Tarzan Junior. Thanks for your kindest
response.

Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Top 5 Games this Christmas

So with Dark's help I thought maybe we
could run a submissions form on the Action for Blind People website
where everybody could submit their favourite games by interface type;

Many thanks
Jason

2008-11-07 Thread dark
Well Matheus thanks for the link, though sinse rwf were talking about
software theft I'm not certain on legality.

Unfortunately, whenever I start the demo maze, either with ctrl F1 or with
the start maze option in the action menue, pressing the arrow keys does
absolutely nothing! either the game is faulty, or I'm doing something wrong.
then again, the welcome unregistered message keeps popping up so maybe
something is going wrong somewhere.

Thanks for the link. I probably won't be able to try futureboy this evening,
sinse it's a more complex game and will probably take more doing, but I'll
certainly try it when I can.

Okay, I got the maze thing working, just a focusing issue, no problem.

I'll be able to do a propper description and review now.

As to whether I can add the link to the demo, I'm not sure.

on the one hand it is the demo version, and not a crack, on the other unlike
with futureboy Rwf say their specifically not distributing it.

Unless tom, phil or someone more up with computer licenses can say
differently, I'll probably play it safe and leave it as no download of demo
available, sinse I really don't wnat to get either myself or audiogames.net
into trouble.

Logically sinse you need an unlock code for the full game which must be
perchiced from Rwf it'd be shareware, - but i've found nothing in the
documentation to say so.
