Hi Nicol,
There are several good reasons to turn your screen off.
1. You save energy and electricity.
2. You keep the room cooler in the summer as many old CRT monitors generate
a lot of heat.

3. You extend the life of the monitor.
4. You get the same amount of privacy as sighted people do when they turn
down their sound or don't have a speech program running.
If they force you to have your monitor on, then you should force them to use
a screen reader so you know what they are doing on their computers.

Phil

Re: [Audyssey] good news: shades of doom

2009-09-20 Thread Phil Vlasak

Hi Jason,
I am changing the name on the screen of the Sarah game.
But during the time when you hear the company logo and the title music the
title has to stay what it was,

Sarah and the castle of witchcraft and wizardry.
This is due to how the GMA game engine creates a registration key.
If I was to change it to Sarah during that first few seconds, then I would
have to send out all new registration keys to everyone who has purchased the
game.
But you can minimize the time that full game title is on the screen by
hitting the control key.
This change will happen in the update of the game I am working on and have
almost completed.

Sincerely,
Phil

Even though i actually can see and do use a screen on occasion for things
like watching films, when i'm merely doing something with speech or audio i
always turn my screen off anyway. It saves power and stops my monitor from
burning out, -- especially true if i've had my desktop on for an
extremely long time listening to audio.

Imho there's no point having a monitor on if nobody is using it, especially
for a long time.

It severely disturbs me that what you privately do in your own home by your
own choice is so strictly sensored in this way, especially if you

[Audyssey] big favour

2009-09-20 Thread Nicol
HI all
I would like to listen to a recording of shades of doom while I am at
work.my boss expects of me to sit at my desk although there is no work
to do.
Raul's recording suffice except for area8 which he did not complete and area
9 which he did not record.
Fortunately I do have a recording program, a very basic one, step voice
recorder.
The only thing is; I cannt resume a recording at a later stage if I have
closed step voice recorder.
So what I want to do is start from the beginning of area8 and record areas 8
and 9 so that I have a full sod recording to listen to when I get borred at
work.
I haven't managed to complete sod on experience levels 3 and above.
So the favour I want to ask you all is:
Can someone please e-mail me off-list a save game file at the start OF area
8, preferably on don't hurt me, but can i play daddy is also all right
but it must be at the start of area8.
its much appreciated.

2009-09-20 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hello. Although it's been a while since I've done my SOD recordings, I
thought I did all of area 8 and just teased area 9. In any case, if
someone does what you are asking regarding giving you a saved game, where
is the fun and the triumph of getting there yourself? Just curious.

Hi,

I know he's in South Africa. During my time at the colorado center I met blind
people from all over the world who got sponsored to come here to the center and
learn independence skills. So if Nocol wants to he could go to one of those
centers. Also if Nicol wants to go but people in his life are preventing him
from doing so. I could get Nicol's contact info off list, give it to the
centers, and they could take it from there. If necessary get the government of
his country involved. Nicol is an adult he can make his own decisions and if
his mom can't handle it too bad for her that's her problem, not Nicol's.

Whilst I agree with what you're saying you're asking the guy to
effectively go against his family. Whilst I agree with you for various
reasons he may not be able to do it. Yes he is an adult and he should be
taking charge of his life. I agree with that totally. It's a question of
that against the costs if he does. I'm a strong willed person. If I have
to upset someone then yes I'll do it no questions asked and I don't make
any exceptions to that rule. Whether it be friend family blood relation
or no. if it has to be done then so be it. My life is mine. I am my own
master nobody else. I have no qualms with taking action like that if it
is so required. But not everybody has the strength of will and character
to do that. Which is frustrating but true never the less.

2009-09-20 Thread ChB
Yes all of them are pretty good. Have not had them on
playstation 2 but tried them at a friends house once.right
now I am playing the versus mode and made it to stage 4.
Stage 4 is still when I get the daylihts beaten out of me.
But I will get better soon, I am sure lol
I have soul calibur for ps3 also. Also have fight night
round 4 new for ps3. It used to have only joystick support
for punches but they have since come out with a patch to
also choose button layout for punches. This choice seems to
work better for me so far. And, I am also getting on peoples
nerves right now with drums for beatles rockband lol. I like
the guitar hero series as well but found that it is easier
to get into the rrockband beatles game since it is easier to
play if you start on easy than easy on guitar hero.
Therefore the learning curve seems a lot less stressful and
with fast improvement noticable. I play drums as well as
guitar on both games of this series.
So I should be in good shape, with plenty of games to play,
for the long nasty weather periods in month to come when
stuck inside.

playstation 2 but tried them at a friends house once.right
now I am playing the versus mode and made it to stage 4.

I just got this game for psp today. It is a fighting game
with martial arts stuff and so forth. Pretty cool. Soul
calibur already came out with several releases in the past
for different consoles but this is the first time for a

psp

release.
It is very similar with tekken., so if anyone ever played
that one on psp you will feel right at home with soul
calibur. You can also play as kratos form the god of war
series now! I have had some help to try and familiarize
myself with the menus and all and can now work this pretty
good myself. I like the handling and the sounds are cool.
Dialogues in story mode are spoken too.

Hello raul
I think you misunderstood the gist of my message completely.
I do not want people to complete earlier levels on my behalf so that I can
explore later levels.
I have played sod many times, even on the highest experiment level.
I would like to have a full sod recording while I am at work because its
very borring having to sit there all day with no work to do.
I am happy with the first 7 levels of game play you recorded but I also
prefer full game play of the eighth level and also game play of the ninth
level .So in other words, after I've listened to the first 7 levels of your
recording I also would like to listen to full game play of levels 8 and 9.
I am satisfied with it that levels 8 and 9 does not have any speech that is
why I am willing to record game play of levels 8 and 9 myself.
Else, I have to record game play of sod from level1 for which I do not have
enough time BEFORE TOMORROW.

Re: [Audyssey] final fantasy

2009-09-20 Thread ChB
It is actually more a role playing game. You can strengthen
your charcater by gaining experience from combat as well as
items you find along the way of your quest. The hard part on
some games is when they are three dimensional and you don't
quite know where you are going or need to go to get on with
the quest. I am not a big role playing game fan, so never
really got into the series. I would compare it to the zelda
series in a lot of ways. There is quite a bit of exploring
puzzle soving as well as fightiing. The fighting is on some
parts of the series not in real time but works turn based.

Re: [Audyssey] good news: shades of doom

2009-09-20 Thread shaun everiss
well we have lcds. no more crts.
I do run maintainance on systems with the screen off, I have a laptop here so I
obviously can't.
however in some cases the system will not boot if a screen is off or there is
no mouse.
thankfully that is not often.

Hi Nicol,
I think you did well confronting the problem instead of sneaking around to do
it. Privacy is important, but having to sneak around is not privacy, it is
their control on you. You confronted them with the facts, you made them
understand that you are going to do this, and they backed down. Now you are no
longer doing something sneaky, and having to find ways to get around these
people. You got my respect and I'm proud of you for handling the situation
straight up.

The reason why I cannot turn off my monitor if I play a game like sarah.
The people that share the flat with me will get suspicious if my screen is
off if for example the lady enters my room to check my clothes etc.
She will ask me why my screen is off.
]she will suspect something.

Hello there,
I came into this thread a bit late...so I had to go back and read alot
of old messages to get the feel for what is going on here.
My experience to some of what is being discussed goes like this:
I used to live with a girlfriend in my house.
I also played shades of doom.
she is a born again christian as am I.
she was a bit miffed I was playing this shooting game.
here is how I settled the matter.
As I am totally blind..I turned my monitor off.
even if she walks by my open door, she will not know what I am doing.
as many of these games are very specific about what direction a sound
comes at you from, I got a very nice pair of headphones to wear when I
play any game.
so once again, even when she is standing in my room talking to me..she
has no idea what I am doing unless I have the volume on the head
phones turned way up high.
I consider this leveling the playfield.
when she is on her computer I have no idea what she is doing as she
turns her speakers off.
I can't see or hear what she is doing and she can't see or hear what I
am doing.
No problem here...grin.
religion and computer games can co-exist.

well I have never had that issue always got a laptop.
if people tell me to shove it just tell them to buy you a computer and put it
in your room.
and don't use it.
in my house there is no issue because all of us have our own system, I have a
laptop the others have desktops.

Hi Nicol,

I recommend you go to www.cocenter.org and www.blindinc.org and get in touch
with the people there. Nicol, you are an adult and if you want the screen
turned off you can turn it off and if people put up or give you krap tell them
to go to you-know-where. You're 31 years old or so. You control your life, not
them. I recommend you get yourself to a training center either one of the
state ones or one of those two that I mentioned.

[Audyssey] Muds

2009-09-20 Thread mike maslo
Hi all:

Was wondering if people knew any muds out there which were you could get
your skills built up from use and not from killing. In other words if I
wanted to learn how to build something the only way I would learn how to do
it was through use. I hate and I mean despise muds where you have to get exp
from killing. I want a mud that will reward me for doing a task and getting
exp and/or building my skills up through use and doing something.

If anyone knows such a mud please let me know. I really am not fond of muds
that are mid evil in theme but if I can find a mud that has that type of
learning I may try it out.

Also do not want any muds that reward you for just being on line and the
skills are built up based upon time on line.

Re: [Audyssey] final fantasy

2009-09-20 Thread Kellie and my lovable Lady J.
I never considered the final fantasy games accessible. But I have always
loved them. I played when I still had vision as a child on the nintendo. But
would watch others play it on the station. There is text to read how was it
possible to have that accessible?

hi everyone.

what are your views on this.

i used to find the final fantasy gams really accessible, i could know how
to cast the spells, know how to move etc. for me, probably the most
accessible combat game out there for the play station.

what does everyone think of the accessibillity of final fantasy?

Re: [Audyssey] tekken 6

2009-09-20 Thread Clement Chou
Yeah, I'm pretty sure it'll be all worth the excite and waiting. Tekken has
never disappointed me, though I've never been good at it really. I'm an average
player, but am trying to get better... and speaking of tekken, here's an
example of the new version of the tekken force mode found in t6.It's be
renamed to scenario campaign, but sounds just like tekken force. except in 3d.
But the concept is still the same from what I can see. Run around a stage and
beat down enemies as much as possible. And better yet, you can acquire weapons
in scenario campaign... like the machinegun used in this clip. Enjoy!
