Yes to all your questions Jim and The game seems to behave properly now. I
was checking it out with my joystick as well. So far I've jumpt 26 barrels
so I'm making progress chuckle The only suggestion I'd like to make is
for a different sound for ducking because I'm not sure I'm pressing the
correct button on my joystick for that. I'll have to play more with my
joystick to see if I can get that down.

Hi DJC,

Oh, you are able to jump 7 barrels. May I ask, are you running left and
jumping the barrels? Are you ducking the first bird? Are you ducking and
picking up the chainsaw and then running through the barrels while the
chainsaw is running? The barrels are much easier to jump while running as
is ducking the first bird.

* INSTRUCTIONS FOR DESTINATION MARS *
 by Richard L. De Steno
Destination Mars is a game that presents you with the challenge
 of
successfully travelling from Earth to Mars. You must avoid such
 dangers as
excessive damage to your ship, running out of fuel, being vaporized
 by space
aliens, crashing your ship, and others.
You begin the game by placing the game diskette in your default
 drive and
entering the word MARS. After the opening announcement, you will be
 asked if
you want sound effects. Simply press the letter Y if you do want
 sound effects
or the letter N if you would rather play the game without sound
 effects. Do
not press the ENTER key at any time in the game after making a
 choice that asks
for a letter. However, number entries do require a press of the
 ENTER key.
Next, you are instructed to press the letter B to blast off. If you
 blast off
successfully, you will begin the thirty five million mile trip to
 Mars.
You travel by spinning the cosmic wheel, which is done by pressing
 the
ENTER key. This produces a number from 1 to 10. Your ship then
 travels two
hundred thousand miles times this number. For example, if you spin
 a 6,
 you
travel one million, two hundred thousand miles toward Mars on that
 spin of the
wheel. Press S at the cosmic wheel prompt to toggle sound on and off.
Each spin of the cosmic wheel presents you with a situation.
 Most of the
situations require you to make a choice. You will be prompted in
 such cases
 to press A - B - E - F - R - N or H. These options mean the
 following:
  A is for accelerating -
B is to use your force field barrier -
E is for taking evasive action -
F is for firing your phasers -
R is for making repairs -
N is for taking no action.
H is to get help if you forget these definitions.
You may exit the game whenever you are directed to spin the
 cosmic wheel,
simply press the ESCAPE key or CTRL-C. You may also exit at any of
 the
preliminary prompts at the beginning of the program.
Most of the prompts in the game are self-explanatory and need no
elaboration. There are numerous ways that you may be prevented from
reaching Mars. You undoubtedly will experience them as you attempt
 to reach
your destination. There are some surprises in store for you in this
 regard.
Note that you use ten units of fuel with each spin of the cosmic
 wheel.
Also, keep in mind that each instance of damage to your ship must be
 repaired.
If you go too fast, you may enter a time warp. Here is a hint:
 the
astute player will escape the time warp on the first attempt.
You may freeze the game at the prompt to spin the cosmic wheel by
pressing F and entering a file name. To resume the frozen game, enter
the file name with MARS, like this: MARS FILENAME.

I'm having an issue with this quenton Playroom. When I installed it here
and started it up I put in my user name and password and the first time I
got music but nothing in the list box and if I hit return it crashed. Next
time I started it up and put in my username and password it just crashed.
It won't run here at all. Someone told me that perhaps it would run with
NVDA and I tried that and it still crashes. The hundred other games I have
installed here run Just fine. Anyone have any thoughts that I can try? I
always make sure I have the latest version but I just can't get it to run.
I'm running XP-Pro service pack3 and all updates. I'm at a loss as to why
this program won't run. Thanks.

[Audyssey] Top Speed Server Crashing

I was wondering if other people are having this trouble or if I need

lets me select my car just fine but as soon as I connect or the other
person connects to me top speed crashes. Anyone have any thoughts on what I
might check? I've got directX9 and net framework3.5. I do have some custom
cars installed and I wonder if it could be that? I'll try another install
with just the default stuff they supply and see if that fixes the issue.
Any ideas are welcome. Before I rebuilt windows it ran fine on servers.

I have a long list of tracks and vehicles here myself. I went through all
the vehicles and some of them didn't work any more so I killed the ones

 Hey,
If anyone is still interested in the old Top Speed 2 Utility, I can
update
it to work with Top Speed 3. I'm puzzled as to why it was removed in the

Also, I am willing to convert all the cars and tracks that I am

used

 Email me if interested.
 Thanks.

although the tracks work, we really need a track/ vehicle converter.
There's not much against continuing to use the old, three-column
syntax
for tracks. In fact, it'll speed up loading multi-player games. As
for
the vehicle files, for most of them a simple Find Replace will do the

trick. Replacing car with builtin leaves only the motorcycles to be

 fixed. Replacing cycle1 with builtin10, cycle2 with builtin11,
and cycle3 with builtin3 fixes that.

who's game to try to rewrite all those files, especially since they
are
or need to be rehosted somewhere again anyway.
I plan on setting up a temporary repository of tracks and vehicles,
until a decent community site gets built. Please mail me at

vehicles that I should be including.

 Hi Folks,
I just got the new, Bop It with shout mode.
It is like a modern-day, handheld Simon Says. After pulling the blue
knob to activate the game, just follow the voiced directions and get
ready
to bop it, twist it, pull it, or shout it!
But make sure you do it before the buzzer sounds! Designed for ages
eight
and up, the game will have you showing off your bopping talent by being
 the first to stay alive.

 Requires:
 3 AAA batteries (included)
 Phillips screwdriver to replace batteries
 No assembly required

 Interactive, and Easy to Carry
Bop It is the same size of a small, hand-held car vacuum, and is very
light, weighing under a pound--making it easy to travel with. The toy is

made up of four main components--a large button in the middle to bop, a
blue gadget to pull, a yellow gadget to twist, and a green lever to move

 sideways for shouting.

Once the game is activated, simply follow the voiced directions before
the
buzzer sounds. As the game goes on, you will take less time with each
turn
to complete the actions. So be prepared to bop it or pull it
quickly!

Bop It features useful rubber grips around the twisting and pulling
gadgets to prevent it from slipping out of your hands.

Fun, Competitive Play or Solo Mode
Bop It can be played by one person in solo mode or in a group/party
setting. The toy is interactive and mentally stimulating--which keeps
the
game interesting and challenging for players of all ages.
Bop It promotes responsive reflexes and good listening skills, along
with
lots of twisting, bopping family fun.

It is totally accessible to the blind and costs $15.53 from Amazon.com

Sure just press f3 to turn the music down or all the way off. f4 will turn

resolved it. I first installed the slim file but that didn't resolve the

 Hello All,
A new version of Three-D Velocity, the combat flight simulator, is now
ready for download. It includes an autoplay mode, force feedback
support, and an audio version of the mission briefing found on the
Three-D Velocity download page. The game supports Windows XP, Vista and
Seven. Please visit http://www.bpcprograms.com/news.htm to read more,
and http://www.bpcprograms.com/programs to download the game. This is a
full install; no upgrade install exists since a lot of stuff has been
updated. Also please COMPLETELY uninstall previous versions of TDV
before instaling the new version--this includes left over settings
files
as well once the uninstall is complete. This will ensure that data in
the previous format will not interfere with the new version (old
settings files have been known to cause distortion in some parts of the
 game.)
 Happy flying!

clicky IBM keyboard and for some reason with your new game with the

 Hi Orin,
Given the fact the game is written essentially in C++ and is DirectX 8
compatible I can't see any reason why Q9 would have any problems
running
via Fusion. Generally speaking native C++ applications and games work
 best
 with Fusion, but who knows.
One thing I can say is I had a problemperforming jumps until I figured
 out
you have to press up arrow, hold it down, and press the right arrow key
several times in a row until I made it over the pits. It is quite
tricky
and gets ttrickier the further you move along in the game.

 Orin wrote:
 Hey all,

For those with Macs using Fusion jumping is harder than it should be
to
say the least. When I press Up+Right no matter how fast I press right
I
jump right into it. I've been able to get past the pits but I don't
have
this problem with Mota or SL, so I'm not sure what's going on with
this
game. I do believe it's a Fusion problem, which is a shame, as it's a
game I'm interested in. I beat the demo, but it took longer than I
 thought.

Other than Fusion problems, the game itself is nice. Love the music.

Yes Wil there are good game pads available. Check walmart for the Phillips
Retractable SGC2909 which was made in 2007. You can't buy this one online
but some stores may still have them. $15 is the price. That is the one I
have and it works great with Railracer, Top Speed, Puppy1, and Pong. It
also works with some of the BSC titles as well but I don't have those
titles myself. I have a friend who just bought a logitech wireless
controler for around 30 bucks and he reports that controler works great.
Both of the controlers I've mentioned here have great forced feedback in
them.

Re: [Audyssey] Advice needed.

2009-01-30 Thread djc
Hello. I've been a gamer for a long time and I suggest Jim Kitchen's
excellent games to start with. They are all freeware and all our
outstanding. If she decides she enjoys them then I'd suggest the shareware
developers such as pcgames, bsgames, blindadrenaline, usagames, l-works and
many other free and commercial great titles. I've been on the net since
1990 and up until about 10 years ago we as blind people didn't hardly have
any titles to play. I think all the game developers have done an
outstanding job for us and I make sure to buy as many titles as possible in
order to support their work.

[Audyssey] pong

2009-01-07 Thread djc
I have now played pong with my new game controler and it's slick. You can
move faster using the joy stick so you have a better chance of hitting that
ball. Again I'd like to say I am really impressed with this game controler.

[Audyssey] Game Controler

2009-01-06 Thread djc
I just bought a cool game controler. It's called Phillips Retractable Game
Controler. The model is sgc2909 and Walmart is selling them for 15 Bucks
here in the US. I am not sure if you can buy these online but they have
them in the stores. The game controler has 2 joy sticks as well as a cursor
and other buttons. It does have force feedback which is really cool. It
works fine with top speed and it appears to work with railracer but not as
well as it does with top speed. It connects to your computer through a USB
Port.

Microsoft put in that genuin advantage? The new top speed and Che's new

Re: [Audyssey] problems with topspeed instalation.

2008-11-22 Thread djc
I'm not getting that error but I can't get these new rc's to run at all.
They crash on startup. I've tried everything here and they won't run and
when I looked in the playing in the dark folder my cars and tracks folders
were empty. I've sent Leonard the tracing file but any suggestions would be
welcome. I'm thinking about buying a force feedback wheel and I'd like to
get this up and running. My other audio games run just fine and the older
top speed2.0 runs just fine.

Re: [Audyssey] Release Candidate for Top Speed 2.1 has arrived!

2008-11-13 Thread djc
I can't get it running here. It's crashing on startup but it's taking the
speech so I don't know what error I'm getting. I tried restarting the
machine and reinstalling and I still can't get it running. I have directx9
installed here so that's not the issue and I not so long ago rebuilt
windows so everything is in place but I didn't have the older top speed
installed when I tried this one. Suggestions would be welcome.

Subject: [Audyssey] Release Candidate for Top Speed 2.1 has arrived!

Exactly four years after the first public release of Top Speed 1.1,
an updated version of Top Speed 2 is available for testing. Top Speed
2.1 has some bug fixes compared to 2.0 aswell as some minor new
features:

 the menu has been rearranged
some new sounds, tracks and cars
 more realistic physics model
support for custom tracks in multiplayer Known issues:
In the menu, two sounds won't be playing simultaneously anymore,
except in the local internet game selection menu, where this issue
 can still occur.
The ReadMe contains some 'empty' sections. This will be fixed in the
 final release.
Sometimes the game crashes when you leave the assign keys section of
the options menu The X-Sight Interactive TS2 Utility Pack also could
contain some bugs or problems. As this pack isn't a product of
Playing in the dark, you can send your bug reports or questions to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] We would like to thank Davy Kager
from Ducktail Games for the programming assistance. A special thanks
to Damien Sadler for contributing the TS2Pack. Also a thank you for
Arjan Tool, Melanie van Egmond, Axel Vugts and Florian Bijers for the
 initial testing.
Note: This is a release candidate version, which means that the game
could still contain some bugs and issues. Please mail your bug
reports (with the tracing.txt file attached) to
 [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I'd like to inform the community that my ftp site is no longer available

Re: [Audyssey] my oppinion to the game market

2008-08-02 Thread djc
I'd like to comment on this subject. Back in 99 I bought a program called
Otsjuke which is a broadcasting program. I still use it today when I'm on
the air on Saturday evenings here in the US. They have a machine specific
licensing design. You install the program and then you send your machine
license to their server and it validates it and sends the code back to you.
Well as it turned out people cracked the code even though ots labs thought
they had a fail safe method. This is $500 worth of technology and it goes
to show if someone wants something bad enough they will find any means to
get it. It's unfortunate that more people aren't honest.

Hi Damien,
It really depends on what level of security you feel comfortable with.
As for myself I am going to stick with a user name and product key, it
is a week security system, but you are giving paid users freedom to do
what they want with the product.
As far as the best method I think a web based registration is best. It
allows them to reinstall their OS many times, is not platform specific,
and your web server handles all the product activations from a remote
location that the average smo can't access. Since most audio games are
downloaded anyway it is pretty safe to say the majority of your
customers has internet based access.

Damien Sadler wrote:
 Hi Guys,
This reminds me. I would like your opinions on how you are willing to
register a game. When I say register, I don't even just mean registering
in
the normal way, I mean any way of confirming that you have paid or
whatever.
There are a bunch of ways that I could do it. I could just ask for a
username and key, or Product ID and key, or have a server password, or
we
can go the online registration method. I could ask the user to log into
an
account, where they can change their password, etc.
It doesn't have to be what I've listed, I'd love new ideas from those of
you
that don't want any of these systems.
 Thanks.

 Damien.

Ok in file zilla tab to the advance button and then tab till you see the
radio buttons and set it to either active or default. If you then connect

don't allow passive mode so if you set to that mode you won't be able to
see the directory. I also use file zilla here.

[Audyssey] Abanded Games

2008-05-20 Thread djc
This came in from one of the tech newsletters I read and I offer this for
your education.

 1.7 More Free Abandoned Software
In the April issue I mentioned a great site [1] which offered aging
commercial software that had been abandoned and was now free. This prompted
subscriber Mark Lynch to write Hey, thanks for the link to the abandonware
site, but for games, this abandonware site [2] has a much better offering
with more games and no download limits. The other one only gives you a game
a day after the initial three, which is a little frustrating. Thanks Mark,
it does seem to have a good game selection. However I don't regard sites
like these as 100% trusted sources, so I advise you send anything you
download for malware testing prior to installation. For testing I recommend
both Jotti [3] and Virus Total [4]. Both are free.

[Audyssey] Old Dos Games

2008-05-20 Thread djc
I can't comment on how well this works with speech but I offer you this
article from this tech newsletter for your education.

4.2 Free Utility Lets You Play Old DOS Games
Subscriber Mark Lynch writes Hey Gizmo, I just love old DOS games, but
it's often hard to get them to work on modern PCs. Recently I discovered
this program called dosbox [1] that lets you play them all perfectly well.
It's brilliant. For a free source of old games Mark suggests this site

Re: [Audyssey] 3D Velocity.

2008-05-06 Thread djc
I ran in to problems with this game. I get the game to start just fine but
it is not lifting me off the ground. The wine sound goes up in pitch and
then I hear tones and later on a steady tone in my right ear and when I
check the different instruments they shows zero and the speed of the motor
is around 276 or 376. When I try and use page down I crash so either I'm
doing something wrong or the game isn't running correctly on this machine.
I guess I'll uninstall it and go get a fresh copy from the web site and try
again. We need an Audio Tutorial on playing this game. I was trying the
racing mode.

You both have to connect on the same port. The default is 6000 and that
should work just fine. I'd check to make sure your allowing the port
through your fire wall.

Re: [Audyssey] Help with exploding homer?

2008-02-02 Thread djc
First when the game starts switch to the second geer with the up arrow and
then take it to 50 and then switch to the third geer with the up arrow and
keep it at 125. You can switch up to 6 geers but my experience is that
going to fast if you hit the gard rail you will crash. I keep it at geer 3
or geer 4 till I come to the end and then with the down arrow I set it
back. The highest I've gotten is 6 busses.

higher gear my harly flips over and explodes, - while holding the

I will admit this game is slightly irritating me at the moment, so any

Re: [Audyssey] Top Speed Question

2007-10-21 Thread djc
On my ftp there are 2 track makers. one allows you to create the track from
scratch and the other one allows you to create a random track. To access my
ftp follow the instructions below:

Site: djc.my-net-space.net
Username: PlayingInTheDark
Password: racing
Port: 21
No Passive mode.

Hope this helps. The track makers are in the design docks folder.

out there, you'll know kind of what I mean. Thanks much,

games didn't work at all here. I can't give you names off the top of my
head Richard but a number of the new titles don't work at all and I have
latest flash as well as the latest direx here.

How does the detecter work with r? I turned it on and it was so loud it
hurt my ears and didn't seem to do anything.

Hello all,
This is not a bug, when you hear the currents on the cliffs, and you know
there is a chest nearby, you have to slow down, and go really slowly,

by tapping the right arrow, because the chest is really close to the
cliffs.
Sometimes you are going too fast, and you just crash on the cliffs, and
hear the chest detector together. That is because the ches was really a
few inches
away from the cliffs.
Its really hard to get these, i know.

If you're trying to access it from PCS, it might actually be easier just

 to
go to Draconis. That's where I'm getting it from, and I was sufficiently
impressed with the preview to purchase it. And let me tell you, that
 doesn't
 happen often.
It ain't pretty when the pretty leaves you with no place to go.

Re: [Audyssey] A Top Speed Review

2007-02-08 Thread djc
Please keep this message for your records:

It's on my ftp and for new people here's the information again. Also Please
use an ftp client. I get constant complaints from people who try to connect
with internet explorer. Internet explorer is Not a proper ftp client so you
need to download an ftp client. I myself use the free client filezilla
from:
http://filezilla.sourceforge.net

Site: djc.my-net-space.net
username: PlayingInTheDark and Note each word is Capitalized.
Password: racing

Note: if you log in and you don't see the directories I suggest that you go
to your options in whatever client your using and change it from say
default to active. I do not use Passive mode and if you turn Passive on
you'll never see the directories. I welcome you to use my ftp. I have high
band width and lots of space available. Thanks.
