[JAWS-Users] problem with outlook not opening excel attachments

2014-07-30 Thread Eyþór Kamban Þrastarson
Hi

My excel files that I get as attachments do not seem to open when I press
enter on them so I have to save them in a different location before opening.

Excel trust center options are set to not open email attachments in
protected view.

Anyone have a solution?

Best regards

Eythor

If you are using Outlook 2010 then you will need to highlight the Excell
attachment, press your alt key and tab to, open and press enter.

Hi Arianna,

On my wife's Lenovo 540 the keystroke is, FN key + escape to
disable /
enable the function keys. Below is a list of what the function
keys do,
possibly for yours as well. Also, here are steps that might
help disable

your mouse pad.

ustomizing the ThinkPad pointing device
You can customize the ThinkPad pointing device to achieve the
extended

functions of the ThinkPad
pointing device.
To customize the ThinkPad pointing device, do the following:
1. Go to Control Panel.
2. Click Hardware and Sound . Mouse . ThinkPad.
3. Follow the instructions on the screen.

I don't know if the following is the same as on your laptop but,
here is

the
function key functions on a Lenovo 500s

f1: Mutes/unmutes the sound.

f2: Decreases the volume level.

f3: Increases the volume level.

f4: Closes the currently active window.

f5: Refreshes the desktop or the currently active window.

f6: Enables/disables the touchpad and the touchpad buttons.

f7: Enables/disables airplane mode. (Wireless)

f8: Switches the active program.

f9: Turns on/off the backlight of the display.

f10: Projects to a connected display.

f11: Decreases display brightness.

f12: Increases display brightness.

Hopefully this info is helpful.

Take care.

I've tried f6 and f8 and neither one of those does it.

Any other suggestions?

so your saying, I need to dl this JRE and run it in order for Adobe 11 to work?

Would any of this have any barring on switching from IE 9 to IE 10?

I have been told by the system from trying to dl another version of Adobe

So, I need this JRE then, does that stand for Java registery entry or java run

Because of its high vulnerability to hacker attacks, I uninstalled JRE from
my XP system some time ago, which did not affect the performance of Adobe

Thanks for your reply.
As I am totally blind, I need only press one button on the Canon and that is
the On/Off button.
All other actions for printing/scanning etc are then carried out through the
appropriate Canon utility on my PC, allowing total control of those actions.

Hi Colin,

I read your instructions and thank you for the time you took to do that, my
wife found this IJ Scan Utility which came with the software for the printer
and it allows me to tab through to print document, image or whatever I need
and it's a lot faster than pushing the scan button which does an auto scan
and saves as an image. All she had to do was download Adobe Reader and add
it to the list of programs in the settings for the document scan and then I
could just bring up the utility and fire away so to speak.

Hi Allen:

I also have a Canon, (a MG5350), which also posed little problems with
printing, but only with scanning. This was because the icons were graphical
and Jaws couldn't read them enough for me to figure out!
I am also using Jaws 15.

Here's a few basic steps to do a scan based on my memory at the moment:

1. Turn the Canon on.
 2. When it finishes its start up sequence with the cartridges, lift the top
lid from the front up and away from you.
3. Place the item to be scanned face down and sideways on the glass bed,
with the paper pushed up to the top left as you stand in front of the
printer.
4. Close the lid and return to the computer.
5. Go to the Desktop, and locate the icon:
Canon MP Navigator EX 5.0
which should have been automatically installed during the installation.
6. Change Jaws Cursor to Route Jaws to PC.
7. Enter on that icon, look for the lineAuto Scan.
I normally select that line with the shift key and right arrow).
8. At this stage, I generally change Jaws back to the PC Cursor. Follow the
steps to do the scan.
9. It will save the image in a folder (I think it is somethingt to do with
Scanned Images), but probably defaulted as a .pdf file.
If I seem hazy, that is because I renamed the folder to read Canon Scanned
Images.

Good luck.
Please feel free to contact me off List if you need further assistance.

Hi all,

I am using JAWS 15, latest update and a Canon printer, as
listed above in the subject line.

Accessing the printer part with JAWS presented no problems.
But, using the scanner and copier part proved difficult using JAWS.

Any help would be appreciated.

first of all;
using the keystroke,
ctrl+y=go to folder;
so, ctrl+y=go to folder,
now press i=inbox press enter.
you should now see the messages using the up/down arrow keys.
next, you may consider changing the view menu, so, making sure, reading pane

now, you should be able to use the tab key to cycle between the folder view

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws with dell Inspiron 3000 series

2014-07-30 Thread Steve
I've used Dell computers before, as well as other manufacturers. I'm not
sure that price is as great as it could be for what you are getting.

As far as laptops, different manufacturers and even models are layed out
differently in where special keys are placed on the keyboard. So, you might
want to look at it before you plunk down money.

I have been very happy with HP's laptops, but I've also had other brands.
For the most part, Windows 7 is Windows 7 no matter what manufacturer you
have.

I upgraded an older laptop to Windows 8 and it works well with Jaws, but the
laptop doesn't support touch gestures as the newer ones do. But, I am
staying with Windows 7 for my OS of choice right now.

List,
I have been using Sony computers over the last number of years. But Sony
has sold it notebook business and I am looking to replace a Windows vista
system with a Dell 15 inch series 3000 with windows 7 and an I core 3
processor. Price is right at $429 with 4 GB of ram.
I am picking a windows 7 system as my other computer is a windows 7 Sony.
Just concerned about going to windows 8 and possibly touch screen
computers.

I do not use an Apple I phone 5S and that touch screen phone.
Although I had used Dell for many years, I had a problem with their
computer
about 6 years ago and sent it back and went to a Sony I 5 windows 7
machine
which is incredible but it is over 3 years old and who knows about
tomorrow.

Have any of you had experiences with the Dell Inspiron running windows 7
and

Jaws 15?
I suspect that soon, windows 7 may not be available as an option but maybe
windows 8 may be okay using a keyboard.
I will appreciate any insights with Dell and Jaws and also Jaws with
windows

No, they don't jerk you around. When you call them the person comes on the
line then asked you your name then asked you what kind of computer problem
you are having. Then they asked you if they can take over your pc and you
have to click a few things as they walk you through it. Then they are logged
on to your pc and they can fix the problem. They then will tell you what
the issue is.

I have used the service many times and have had very good luck with them.
They are all very nolagable.

Give it a try and you will not believe how well it workds.

[JAWS-Users] Adobie Update

2014-07-30 Thread Trish
Well, I do wish to thank all of you who offereed help. The situation has not
been fixed, but at least I have the prior version back on here. I guess I might
eventually figure out why it's not working.

I did check out the site for the Java, it was stating that maybe I was using
a browser that is 32 bit, that is just not true. I did learn how to verify
this from that page though. I don't know if the July 8 KB2962872 has anything
to do with the Adobie not working right. I just am not knowledged enough to
know for sure. I really hesitate to remove IE 10, because I have gained some
better performances on some web pages, and this might sound weird, but for me,
MSE is more stable with IE 10.

I did not ever find IIE 10 listed in programs/features, I guess that is not
where it shows..
Someone on this list was kind enough to email me steps just where to find it,
that worked very well.

I'm no better off now than I was this morning with this issue. I know I
installed IE 10 64 bit which I dl from David's site on July 23, I am just not
sure if reverting back to IE 9 will help the Adobie, if I could know for sure
it would, then I will do it.

Trish,

The problem that you are experiencing could be many things. Although many
programs need the Java Runtime Environment to run properly, seeing a run
time error doesn't always mean that Java will fix it. How did you install
the Adobe Reader? Where did you download it from and did you Run it or
Save it and then install it. The best way in my experience is to just
click on Run, and let the program be installed onto my machine. I have
experienced trouble several times after installing it after first saving it
to my hard drive. You will probably get Google Chrome and the Google Tool
Bar installed along with it, but these are easily removed through Programs
and Features. Tell me more about how you acquired the program, and maybe I
can come up with a solution.

[JAWS-Users] Office 2007 VS 2010

2014-07-30 Thread wayne smith
Hello-

I am still using MS Office 2007 with Windows 7 and JAWS 14. Have you found
that there is a reason to move up to Office 2010 in terms of more
functionality or ease of use? If I did move up to 2010 would it be
important to also switch to JAWS 15? I was under the impression that JAWS
15 was designed for Windows 8 and not needed for us 7 users.

Thanks in advance,

2014-07-30 Thread Mike B.
Hi Mike,\

Trish received the latest Adobe setup executable from me. I've never had
problems running the .EXE files before when installing or updating but, I'm
not going to say that the file could not have gotten corrupted somewhere
along the line. I guess Trish's best option would be to get a fresh update
from Adobe or Ninite. Also Trish, if you can get Adobe to open from your
desktop or start menu shortcuts try the following:
1. While in the main Adobe window press the, Alt key, to open the menues.
2. Left or right arrow to, Help.
3. Arrow up to, check for updates, press enter to have Adobe check for
updates to your currently installed version. Also, in this Help menu is an
option to repair if you want to try repairing the installed version first.
HTH
Take care.

Trish received the latest Adobe setup executable from me. I've never had
problems running the .EXE files before when installing or updating but, I'm
not going to say that the file could not have gotten corrupted somewhere
along the line. I guess Trish's best option would be to get a fresh update

  1. While in the main Adobe window press the, Alt key, to open the menues.
  2. Left or right arrow to, Help.
  3. Arrow up to, check for updates, press enter to have Adobe check for

Tell me more about how you acquired the program, and maybe I
can come up with a solution.

hello;

first of all;
using the keystroke,
ctrl+y=go to folder;
so, ctrl+y=go to folder,
now press i=inbox press enter.
you should now see the messages using the up/down arrow keys.
next, you may consider changing the view menu, so, making sure, reading pane
is set to off, the to-do-bar is turned off.
now, you should be able to use the tab key to cycle between the folder view

hope this helps.

Well, I do wish to thank all of you who offereed help. The situation has not
been fixed, but at least I have the prior version back on here. I guess I
might eventually figure out why it's not working.

I did check out the site for the Java, it was stating that maybe I was
using a browser that is 32 bit, that is just not true. I did learn how to
verify this from that page though. I don't know if the July 8 KB2962872 has
anything to do with the Adobie not working right. I just am not knowledged
enough to know for sure. I really hesitate to remove IE 10, because I have
gained some better performances on some web pages, and this might sound
weird, but for me, MSE is more stable with IE 10.

I did not ever find IIE 10 listed in programs/features, I guess that is not
where it shows..
Someone on this list was kind enough to email me steps just where to find
it, that worked very well.

I'm no better off now than I was this morning with this issue. I know I
installed IE 10 64 bit which I dl from David's site on July 23, I am just
not sure if reverting back to IE 9 will help the Adobie, if I could know for
sure it would, then I will do it.

Well thanks to Mike who gave me the Java link, I let it tell me if I
needed
Java or if I had it already. It did state, I had Java, but it also said
something rather interesting regarding IE 10.
I had dl the IE 10 from Mr. Farren's web site, I guess I thought it was 64
bit for windows 7, therefore according to this java site, it stated, I was
running IE 32 bit. Could this be my problem with Adobie?

Re: [JAWS-Users] Adobe Reader

2014-07-30 Thread Trish
my adobe is fixed. i didn't have to switch ie10 either, which I am most happy.
I would like to say something here regarding the OCR function, it seems like my
utility bill is a scanned image, but thanks to the OCR and not OB here, I am
able to read that bill.
Just a little freeby there for yall in case you get a PDF that states empty
after opened by Adobe, this might just work for ya to read.

Adobe 10 had to be removed and so 11 could be installed, no need of the java
either. I'm certainly not saying that isn't important here, just glad I didn't
have to deal with it.
So thanks again to all who tried to help me today. I'll go away now and
hopefully I can stay out of trouble.

  Trish,
Call the Microsoft Accessibility Support group at 800-936-5900. They are a
great group, and they will have you up and running in no time. Let them
access your computer, they are honest people and will not go into anything
except where they need to go to fix your problem.

Hi Mike,\

Trish received the latest Adobe setup executable from me. I've never had
problems running the .EXE files before when installing or updating but,
  I'm
not going to say that the file could not have gotten corrupted somewhere
along the line. I guess Trish's best option would be to get a fresh
  update
from Adobe or Ninite.
Also, in this Help menu is
  an
option to repair if you want to try repairing the installed version first.
HTH
Take care.
Mike

I have
experienced trouble several times after installing it after first saving
  it
to my hard drive. You will probably get Google Chrome and the Google Tool
Bar installed along with it, but these are easily removed through Programs
and Features. Tell me more about how you acquired the program, and maybe I
can come up with a solution.

well, now I get, Adobe cannot open because of an incompatibility
confirguation of my system, what the heck?
I have had this same system for long time now, I do no know what is the
problem..
I have only updated to IE 10 recently, the only change in the system if
this is the problem, guess I'll be going back to 9.
Unless, this JRE can fix the problem.

  Trish,

Did you uninstall the 10.9 version? If so, do you have the Java Runtime
Environment installed on your computer? Some of these programs require
  it
to
run normally. It can be found at www.oracle.com/java. Pick the Java JRE
  to
  download.

whew, what a relief.
It's most confusing when you are poking around in files and programs on one's
computer, and you hear, some stuff 32 bit and some 64 bit, so that confuses me.
Thanks for providing IE 10 for dl from your site. I had hidden IE 10 and 11 via
window's update, and just didn't want to undo all that process to get it, dl is
soo much easier and faster.
then I don't have to hide it again, there's always a method to my maddness,
well sometimes,lol
