Re: [JAWS-Users] Adobe Reader
thanks for the info. I didn't install it. I have restored my computer back to a much later date, which now the former Adobe REader 10.1.9 is back, this is the version that has been on this laptop since I first got it, I haven't had any issues with it. So, the only thing that puzzles me is, the recent install of IE 10, because the last time the Adobe Reader worked was in June, it's the last PDF I have read and dl from my bank that is. Now, trying to read a new PDF, I get the error msg. I just need to know how to fix it so it works again. Hi Colin, I am glad to hear that you can use your printer that way. A tech person came down from where I attended for my training, and was able to set up my Canon, about the same way. This was because the icons were graphical and Jaws couldn't read them enough for me to figure out! I am also using Jaws 15. Here's a few basic steps to do a scan based on my memory at the moment: 1. Turn the Canon on. 2. When it finishes its start up sequence with the cartridges, lift the top lid from the front up and away from you. 3. Place the item to be scanned face down and sideways on the glass bed, with the paper pushed up to the top left as you stand in front of the printer. 4. Close the lid and return to the computer. 5. Go to the Desktop, and locate the icon: Canon MP Navigator EX 5.0 which should have been automatically installed during the installation. 6. Change Jaws Cursor to Route Jaws to PC. 7. Enter on that icon, look for the lineAuto Scan. I normally select that line with the shift key and right arrow). 8. At this stage, I generally change Jaws back to the PC Cursor. Follow the steps to do the scan. 9. It will save the image in a folder (I think it is somethingt to do with Scanned Images), but probably defaulted as a .pdf file. If I seem hazy, that is because I renamed the folder to read Canon Scanned Images. Good luck. Please feel free to contact me off List if you need further assistance. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws with dell Inspiron 3000 series
I've used Dell computers before, as well as other manufacturers. I'm not sure that price is as great as it could be for what you are getting. As far as laptops, different manufacturers and even models are layed out differently in where special keys are placed on the keyboard. So, you might want to look at it before you plunk down money. I have been very happy with HP's laptops, but I've also had other brands. For the most part, Windows 7 is Windows 7 no matter what manufacturer you have. I upgraded an older laptop to Windows 8 and it works well with Jaws, but the laptop doesn't support touch gestures as the newer ones do. But, I am staying with Windows 7 for my OS of choice right now. Have any of you had experiences with the Dell Inspiron running windows 7 and Jaws 15? I suspect that soon, windows 7 may not be available as an option but maybe windows 8 may be okay using a keyboard. I will appreciate any insights with Dell and Jaws and also Jaws with windows 8. Then they asked you if they can take over your pc and you have to click a few things as they walk you through it. Then they are logged on to your pc and they can fix the problem. [JAWS-Users] Adobie Update
Well, I do wish to thank all of you who offereed help. The situation has not been fixed, but at least I have the prior version back on here. I guess I might eventually figure out why it's not working. I did check out the site for the Java, it was stating that maybe I was using a browser that is 32 bit, that is just not true. I did learn how to verify this from that page though. I don't know if the July 8 KB2962872 has anything to do with the Adobie not working right. I just am not knowledged enough to know for sure. I really hesitate to remove IE 10, because I have gained some better performances on some web pages, and this might sound weird, but for me, MSE is more stable with IE 10. I did not ever find IIE 10 listed in programs/features, I guess that is not where it shows.. Someone on this list was kind enough to email me steps just where to find it, that worked very well. I'm no better off now than I was this morning with this issue. I know I installed IE 10 64 bit which I dl from David's site on July 23, I am just not sure if reverting back to IE 9 will help the Adobie, if I could know for sure it would, then I will do it. Re: [JAWS-Users] Adobe Reader
Trish, The problem that you are experiencing could be many things. Although many programs need the Java Runtime Environment to run properly, seeing a run time error doesn't always mean that Java will fix it. How did you install the Adobe Reader? Where did you download it from and did you Run it or Save it and then install it. The best way in my experience is to just click on Run, and let the program be installed onto my machine. I have experienced trouble several times after installing it after first saving it to my hard drive. You will probably get Google Chrome and the Google Tool Bar installed along with it, but these are easily removed through Programs and Features. Tell me more about how you acquired the program, and maybe I can come up with a solution. [JAWS-Users] Office 2007 VS 2010
Hello- I am still using MS Office 2007 with Windows 7 and JAWS 14. Have you found that there is a reason to move up to Office 2010 in terms of more functionality or ease of use? If I did move up to 2010 would it be important to also switch to JAWS 15? I was under the impression that JAWS 15 was designed for Windows 8 and not needed for us 7 users. Re: [JAWS-Users] Adobe Reader
I simply did a system's restore back a few days, and the Adobie 10.1.9 is the only bversion installed. This was what I have been using. It worked as of June when I dl the PDF of my bank statement. This was running IE 9, on July 23, I installed IE 10, and went to open a PDF this week and got the error msg. So something is messed up somewhere. I do not install the google or crome, I know what I need to do to make sure they do not install. Same as for the Adobie flash and it's 14. Here is the error msg I get when trying to use Adobie 10: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error! Program: C... Hi Mike,\ Trish received the latest Adobe setup executable from me. I've never had problems running the .EXE files before when installing or updating but, I'm not going to say that the file could not have gotten corrupted somewhere along the line. I guess Trish's best option would be to get a fresh update from Adobe or Ninite. Also Trish, if you can get Adobe to open from your desktop or start menu shortcuts try the following: 1. While in the main Adobe window press the, Alt key, to open the menues. 2. Left or right arrow to, Help. 3. Arrow up to, check for updates, press enter to have Adobe check for updates to your currently installed version. Also, in this Help menu is an option to repair if you want to try repairing the installed version first. HTH Take care. You will probably get Google Chrome and the Google Tool Bar installed along with it, but these are easily removed through Programs and Features. Re: [JAWS-Users] Adobe Reader
my adobe is fixed. i didn't have to switch ie10 either, which I am most happy. I would like to say something here regarding the OCR function, it seems like my utility bill is a scanned image, but thanks to the OCR and not OB here, I am able to read that bill. Just a little freeby there for yall in case you get a PDF that states empty after opened by Adobe, this might just work for ya to read. Adobe 10 had to be removed and so 11 could be installed, no need of the java either. I'm certainly not saying that isn't important here, just glad I didn't have to deal with it. So thanks again to all who tried to help me today. I'll go away now and hopefully I can stay out of trouble. - Original Message - From: Mike Boyd To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Wednesday, July 30, 2014 9:08 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Adobe Reader Trish, Call the Microsoft Accessibility Support group at 800-936-5900. whew, what a relief. It's most confusing when you are poking around in files and programs on one's computer, and you hear, some stuff 32 bit and some 64 bit, so that confuses me. Thanks for providing IE 10 for dl from your site. I had hidden IE 10 and 11 via window's update, and just didn't want to undo all that process to get it, dl is soo much easier and faster. then I don't have to hide it again, there's always a method to my maddness, well sometimes, lol - Original Message - From: David Ferrin To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Wednesday, July 30, 2014 9:16 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Adobee/Java No David Ferrin ow...@jaws-users.com Always be yourself because the people that matter don't mind, and the ones that mind don't matter. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Trish Sent: Wednesday, July 30, 2014 3:19 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Adobee/Java yes, I did check the version I dl and installed is the 64 bit, am I suppose to run the 32 bit as well? - Original Message - From: David Ferrin To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Wednesday, July 30, 2014 12:49 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Adobee/Java Both versions are available for download up there FYI.
