I agree, and have only observed this issue among blind computer users. I work with sighted computer users, and when they have problems, they ask someone and someone helps them. You could post the explanation, and I'm sure someone would have a good answer. I can think of lots of reasons why you could have difficulty, beginning with the "save" process to locating the file in the download folder to knowing if it's an executable file. I don't want to speculate because this post would get very long. FYI, it's my understanding that people prefer to save online files rather than run them for two reasons. Andy gave you one-the ability to use it again. The other is that people sometimes encounter problems when running from an online site. My own practice various according to the website and my plans. I will run an Acrobat Reader update from the website because it will be easy to find again and installation always goes smoothly. However, I save current JAWS releases because I'll need the current one if I ever have to do a repair. Also, some JAWS releases have introduced new problems, and if that happens, I'll want to revert to the previous version that worked fine. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [ mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of anna vimini Sent: Friday, February 26, 2016 12:09 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] gwx Control pannel Thanks Rick , I was hoping that I could just choose the run this file instead of saving it because I always have trouble installing it after saving it to my down loads folder. I can assure you that if the "get windows 10" notification re-appears on my computer, the Microsoft Accessibility Support line will get another call from me, and I will not be happy. I always teach my studednts and my children to choose their battles, but this is a battle that I feel must be engaged in. I find it totally un-acceptable not to have the complete and free choice of whether or not to install an operating system, or any software program for that matter. And, to be constantly harassed if you do not is totally un called-for. I can't say that I am as happy as the rest of you have been with the assistance I received. Before beginning to remote into my computer, he tried every way possible to convince me to let him install Windows10. Maybe he just did not understand English well. I finally had to ask to speak to a supervisor or manager, and he then agreed to do what I was asking. When he was done, I asked him to review what he had done. He told me that he hid the Windows10 installation icon. I asked how long will the icon stay hidden and he said for a few days. I told him that I wanted it removed completely from my computer and he said that there is no way to do that, and that I will be happier in a few days if I would call back and have them install windows10 for me. So on the positive side , I will not be annoyed by the Windows10 update window for a few days. As I stated earlier, despite my best efforts, the "Get Windows 10" message re-appeared on my home Windows 7 computer once again late this afternoon. Admittedly, I did not install the GWX control panel program software that a few had suggested, because I was a little leary of putting new software on my computer without really knowing what I was doing. Anyway, having spent far too many hours on this needlessly-created issue so far, I decided to call the Microsoft Accessibility Hotline for assistance. It turns out that somehow, the "get windows 10" message, and associated files had been installed on my computer in several different locations. It took the accessibility specialist a full hour to get everything properly uninstalled and operating as it should. I couldn't tell for sure, but I even think the accessibility specialist was getting frustrated at several points. I used this situation as an opportunity to let her know in no uncertain terms that Microsoft is not making any friends among blind computer users who are being harassed repeatedly with the "get windows 10" message, and that I would hope this could somehow be taken into consideration. I am sure, as someone else pointed out, this complaint and my situation will not mean diddley to Microsoft. But, I would urge anyone with this issue to contact the Accessibility Hotline, rather than trying to go it alone with only frustration as the end result. At least, this is my suggestion at this time, based on my recent experience. And he could not find any third-party Windows 10 drivers for his particular printer, either. I realize I rarely post on the JAWS users list, but I'm helping a family member apply for online jobs and have run into an issue with one of the big online candidate profile sites that I think could be JAWS related. The issue is with People Answers. People Answers (http://www.peopleanswers.com) is a Website that companies use to host online assessments and questionnaires for job candidates. When I log in to the site to begin a job assessment from an employer using this portal, I'm forwarded to a page asking me to scroll through an agreement and click I Agree to except it. When I scroll through the agreement, JAWS reads, I Agree button unavailable and I do not agree unavailable. The sighted person I'm working with says the button is grayed out, and she can't click on I Agree. I've scrolled through the entire agreement at least three times this evening using Internet Explorer; I also tried this page under Mozilla Firefox with the same result. I've had similar issues with this portal in the past. So far, I've only gotten this button to populate correctly twice, and both times it's taken me an hour to scroll through the information on the agreement multiple times. The agreement itself consists of two sections: a privacy statement and terms of use. Both have separate links to allow you to open and print the privacy statement and terms of service, then close the page to return to the application. I've had to open and close the page multiple times to get the I agree buttons to populate correctly. This evening, I was unable to do so at all after scrolling to the bottom of the page at least three times under Internet Explorer 11 and once under Mozilla Firefox 40. I'm using JAWS 16, build 4350 with a 64-bit PC running Windows 10. I'd like to know if anyone is familiar with this online job portal and has any solutions to this. Thanks in advance. Chris. Re: [JAWS-Users] [EXTERNAL] questions about Openbook
Have you checked your situation as regards lighting? Flatbed scanners have their own internal lighting, but when using a camera, the room lighting is important. If you do not have enough light, you can hit CONTROL-L and that will turn on the camera's own light source. I still think it could be improved with keystrokes to get you out of music and into what one really wants to see, in my case, battery status when phone is plugged in, ability to know if there are updates, info on last backup and ability to perform them, and search like we had in 11 that went directly to the app store and where we could type in a phrase and see reasonable results. In other words, I want my side bar and my apps that show up in a list ... but that is too much to ask, the keep making accessibility worse and more worse in my humble opinion. Apple Music also is still as confusing as ever, especially the FOR YOU tab. Makes absolutely no sense and it never seem to remain after you attempt to select what you like or love and never deletes what you do not like. And it sucks. You won't even be able to hear games live if the game is either broadcast nationally, or in your area. You will only be able to hear games live if they are not broadcast nationally, or if they are out of your area. Apparently, they folded Audio Pass into a product that also contains the TV video so you can't just separate out the audio for a lower price. I think the service costs about $100 per season. It's a program in two editions: The Basic package, and the Advanced package. The Basic edition is mainly for complete computer beginners. Leasey works only with JAWS. The Leasey Basic package costs more, and does more in that it speaks additional help dialogue prompts in a female voice . The Advanced Package adds some additional functionalities to JAWS, and workd from the keyboard. Thus, the Advanced Package is rather like a set of scripts that do additional things - in Internet Explorer, Microsoft Word, Facebook, Chicken Nugget, Winamp, Foobar2000, and some more programs. Before you buy, there is an evaluation version the potential user could try. I tried the evaluation of the Advanced package. I decided that Leasey is not for me at least for now. Other users may react more favourably. I happen to believe that one thing the user should be able to do, particularly if s/he is an advanced user, is disable Leasey while running the version of JAWS it was installed in. From my reading of the documentation, one cannot do that. If one does want to disable it, one has to either uninstall it or use a version of JAWS that Leasey was not installed into. Just to reiterate: There are good things about Leasey. But it may not be for all users. Re: [JAWS-Users] [EXTERNAL] Re: Leasey with JAWS
Keep in mind that because Leasey is based on JAWS scripts, whenever there is a major JAWS upgrade the program will be broken until he updates it. This can also happen if the programs that it supports are upgraded, such as a new version of MS Word, etc. I believe that he charges for periodic updates, so this will be another ongoing expense. And by framing the problem that way, Microsoft has given itself a nearly impossible task. * To the company's credit, each new build lurches closer to being usable, although with new bugs every time, it is difficult to evaluate how smooth the final release version will be. Best case: It may earn the grudging acceptance of Windows 7 users who refuse to move to Windows 8. And part of that acceptance will come not from sudden enthusiasm for a new way of interacting with the desktop, but from a desire to take advantage of the clear core benefits Windows 10 provides in performance, security, administration, and memory usage over Windows 7 and even Windows 8. * So why is it so hard to convince users to move to a brand-new, free, feature-packed, more efficient OS? * http://www.extremetech.com/computing/205320-microsoft-windows-10-will-be -the-last-version-of-windows * * Apple does it all the time. Simply put, because Microsoft didn't build Windows 8 or Windows 10 for Windows users. It built them to further its own business strategy of using the power of the once-ubiquitous Windows platform to extend its dominance into the rapidly growing mobile space. The result is an OS whose features are now flipping and flopping with each new build - as Microsoft tries to fix problems of its own creation. * Imagine how good a desktop OS Windows 10 could have been * What if instead, after realizing what a terrible mistake Windows 8 was, Microsoft had made the truly brave decision to come clean and change its strategy? If Windows 10 had been designed from the beginning to be the best possible desktop OS, and the thousands of developer years spent trying to make it everything to everyone were instead spent providing services and applications for the mobile OS platforms people actually want? If in tandem Microsoft was willing to let go of its sub-3% market share in mobile, it could also have spent the cash it used to buy Nokia to build out its cross-platform services offerings instead. We could have had a really excellent desktop OS - worth paying for - * http://www.extremetech.com/computing/201601-microsoft-desperately-wants- you-to-move-to-windows-10 * * and great

Well, you have made your position quite clear, so why don't you move on. My employer uses mcAfee, so my only choice was to learn how to work with it. Once you get it set up, you don't need to keep thinking about it. I have often read on this and other lists that people would rather use an inferior product because it is accessible. When it comes to security, I want the best security program available, and I'll learn how to deal with it. If the U. S. Government uses McAfee, that's good enough for me. Re: [JAWS-Users] [EXTERNAL] Opinions: Windows Live Mail or Outlook 2010
If the person is just wanting to do Email at home, WLM is more than up to the job. However if the person already has MS Office, then he or she has a choice. I think that the user experience for WLM and the Email component of outlook is very similar once you get Outlook configured. In fact, in some respects it is easier. One example is that first letter navitgation does not work in WLM for navigating among folders or moving messages among folders, but it does in Outlook. Another advantage is that you can sync your Outlook Emails with Email on a smart phone or tablet. I believe that this also works for calendars and contact lists. One thing that is easier in WLM is to save the senders of Email messages into your contacts. There is no difference in terms of features. JAWS Professional is meant for the work or corporate environment. You save money by using Home because the SMA is less expensive. When on the rare occasion I have deleted the history, and then tried to log back into my bank, I get a pop up from the bank that basically is trying to id my computer since the cookie has been removed. I have done all the necessary steps to register my computer for the bank, and this works just fine as long as I do not remove the IE history. You may remember that, last week, I posted a quiry to the list regarding an increasingly sluggish Windows 7 desktop computer with Jaws, to the point that it became unusable. I originally thought the problem related to some sort of a virus I had gotten, since it seemed that something in internet explorer was constantly running. I think that might have been part of the problem, but after taking the computer to a local computer repair shop, it seems that the biggest problem is with Outlook 2010. I am not sure how he found this out, but the computer repair person indicated that my Outlook data file is unbelievably huge! It contains something like 10 gigs of material, and is constantly running, and trying to refresh itself. I access both my work and personal g-mail accounts via Outlook 2010, and am very good at deleting e-mails that are no longer of use to me. I also periodically check my all mail folder in my personal g-mail account to be sure that deleted e-mails are not showing up in there. I guess my question is this: Should I totally un-install Outlook 2010, and re-install it again? Or, is there some way I can correct this issue with my currrent version of Outlook 2010? My University currently uses Office 365, which I know contains a version of Outlook, so I'm wondering if that might be another way to go. The computer tech at my local computer repair shop advises me to forget outlook, and just access my personal g-mail via the g-mail web site, but I have not had the greatest luck navigating that web site with Jaws 14. I'm not sure if such an approach would work with my work e-mail account either. Any wisdom that can be shed on this issue would be appreciated. Thank you. If I can locate the site again I shall give this a whirl. The American Foundation for the Blind Creates an Accessible Video Player and Makes It Available As a Free Download NEW YORK (May 5, 2015)-Today, the American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) made its new, accessible HTML5 embedded video player available as a free download. The AFB Accessible Player makes it easy for people with vision loss to play videos online, something that can be fraught with accessibility challenges. People with vision loss need equal access to online videos for school, work and entertainment. People who are blind typically use only a keyboard, but many current video players are designed for mouse only, with no way to interact with the controls via the keyboard, said Crista Earl, director of AFB Web Services. Other video players have buttons with unlabeled images, so people using screen readers and people with low vision can't easily fast forward, pause or rewind the video. The AFB Accessible Player leverages HTML 5 and cascading style sheets (CSS) to allow low-vision users to take advantage of websites' high-contrast color schemes to select the font sizes and colors they find easiest to read. The controls are labeled with text, so they work with any kind of assistive technology, such as screen-reading software, braille displays and screen-magnification software, as well as a mouse. The video can be expanded to full screen, which is helpful for users with low vision. It can be used either as an embedded YouTube player or as a standard player, and the custom control layout supports both English and Spanish languages. The player also provides fallback options for older browsers. HTML5 is the standard supported by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), which provides enhanced functionality for modern websites and helps make the Internet more accessible. AFB's own websites are designed for accessibility, and AFB Tech, AFB's technology division, regularly helps businesses to make their online presence more user friendly for people with disabilities. Initially, the AFB Accessible Player was developed for visitors to the AFB family of websites, but because so many developers are looking for specific solutions to make their websites accessible, AFB made the decision to share the player online. This HTML5 player is unlike anything else currently available, and we feel this is a big leap forward for blind and visually impaired users, added Earl. As an organization, we are committed to promoting accessibility for people who are blind or visually impaired, said Carl R. Augusto, AFB president and CEO. We encourage developers to download and use this video player. With more than 20 million Americans living with vision loss, a lot of people could benefit from wide use of this player. AFB's new HTML5 player is available for download free of charge at www.afb.org/player. ### About AFB The American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) is a national nonprofit that expands possibilities for people with vision loss. AFB's priorities include broadening access to technology; elevating the quality of information and tools for the professionals who serve people with vision loss; and promoting independent and healthy living for people with vision loss by providing them and their families with relevant and timely resources. Headquartered in New York, AFB is proud to house the Helen Keller Archives and honor the more than 40 years that Helen Keller worked tirelessly with AFB. Maneuver over to the start menu, make sure JAWS is highlighted. Then use the kill command (I think it's the equivalent of Win-JAWS-F4) to really clear it out. Then, go the desktop (remember, you should now be focused on the JAWS start command) and load it again. During remote sessions using VPN, jaws 16 frequently goes absolutely silent for minutes at a time. Occasionally speech will return if I wait long enough, but often I have to reboot the computer before I am able to regain speech. This same behavior would sometimes occur with older versions of jaws (prior to jaws 15), but then it seemed to be fixed. I work from home several days a week, signed on to my desktop at work and these frequent silences are very disruptive, not to mention the reboots. Has anyone else seen this behavior with jaws 16? I intended to report it to FS, but I'm not sure even how to explain it since it seems to happen randomly without regard to what application I may be using at the time. Re: [JAWS-Users] [EXTERNAL] free accessible driver update program
I have not tried a driver update program in a while, but the ones that I have tried have either been inaccessible, or have not rendered the latest driver. Many drivers can be updated from within Windows Device Manager, or you can always be sure of getting the latest driver by going to the manufacturer's web site. A little more work, but worth it. Actually, my philosophy is that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. There are times when a new driver may improve performance, but often this is not the case, and sometimes a new driver can actually cause problems. JAWS .For customers who use JAWS 16 and MAGic 13 together, we resolved an issue that was discovered in the previous update where MAGic's Mouse Echo feature was not working as expected when JAWS 16 was running. .Worked with Smarter Balance Testing group in order to make some adjustments in how JAWS is working with the tests being conducted in many of the schools throughout the US. .In addition to detecting math that is rendered using MathJax in Internet Explorer, JAWS now detects Math content that is directly included in the HTML of a web page in both Internet Explorer and Firefox. .The contents of the Math Viewer are now displayed visually on the screen. The Math Viewer is accessed by pressing ENTER when JAWS encounters math content on a web page. As the equation is navigated using the ARROW keys, each expression or partial expression is highlighted so a sighted assistant can easily track visually, what JAWS is speaking. .Based on customer feedback, JAWS is now much more responsive when reading long and complex mathematical expressions rendered by MathJax. .Resolved a reported issue where JAWS was not recognizing math content in Internet Explorer on Wikipedia when the Wikipedia user account was set to render math using MathJax. .Improved how JAWS pronounces various mathematical functions so they are spoken using more natural language. .The Technology News from CNET Research It lookup source now works as it did in JAWS 15, displaying as many as 20 articles. .If both JAWS and MAGic are running, resolved an issue where pressing the Text Viewer toggle key on the MAGic Keyboard was not working. .Resolved reported issues using the Find feature (CTRL+F) in FSReader. .A customer reported that if focus was in a Windows security dialog and speech was off, braille was not working as expected and JAWS was creating several untitled voice profiles. This is now fixed. Microsoft Excel .When focused in the Font edit combo box, addressed a reported issue where the location of the cursor was not being shown in braille. .Resolved a reported issue where JAWS was not reading the list of column headers in the Sort dialog box. .Addressed an issue where information was not being displayed correctly in braille in certain spreadsheets when the braille mode was set to Current Row. .Addressed a reported issue with suggestions in the spell checker not being read as expected. Microsoft Internet Explorer .If you are inside an application region on a web page in both Internet Explorer and Firefox, it is now necessary to press the PC cursor command (NUM PAD PLUS) twice quickly to turn off Forms mode and return to the Virtual PC cursor. This change was made to keep users from inadvertently leaving Forms mode while interacting with controls inside application regions which require Forms mode remain active and is similar to having to press the PC cursor command twice quickly to turn off the Touch cursor. .Resolved issues with JAWS reading links and other content on web pages marked as hidden and not meant to be read by

It's an enterprise level collaboration tool. We use it extensively. It can be used by a work group or department to say, share calendars, or it can be used by groups working together to share documents, presentations, etc. it would allow a work group in L. If I don't want anyone else to see who I'm sending the email to I put all the names in the BCC field. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Cristóbal Sent: Friday, April 17, 2015 1:19 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] Sending an email to multiple recipients in Outlook 2010 Hello list, So I would like to send an email to multiple recipients, but am not having success with a certain method. I know I can from within a new email message go to the to button and look up people to add from my address book, but I find that to be too tedious and time consuming. I'm trying to add a bunch of people by first pressing the control button and then going down my address book with the down arrow and pressing the spacebar on those who I wish to email. I guess it would be the command for selecting noncontiguous items in a list. Anyway, After I select the people I wish to email, I press the control+N command but instead of an email message popping up with the previously selected contact emails in the to field, I get the prompt to create a new contact. I've tried different versions of the same. By selecting my contacts then tabbing around in the ribbons to select the new mail option and so on, but no dice. I got this step by step instruction online, but so far, I've had no luck. Am I somehow missing a step or can someone enlighten me as to how to best do this? This is not for distribution lists as I would like to email different groupings of people at different times. I'm using Outlook 2010 and the latest Jaws 16. Thank you,. Re: [JAWS-Users] [EXTERNAL] Sending an email to multiple recipients in Outlook 2010
The TAB key will put you in the next field. Just hit the ENTER key.
