The attached file, "free-trial.jpg" is not a jpeg, but a Web/P
file. Odd that the extension is wrong.

Web/P is a format developed and pushed by Google. Maybe the file
was hosted by google and they converted it? But still with a .jpg
extension

It's a conspiracy!! The communists and web admins are in cahoots
plotting to destroy the internet by distributing images with wrong
extensions! The world as we know it will end We will all
die!!!

I would plead that you get a solution that will put the info into
the EXIF, IPTC, and or XMP. These are "tags" that stick the
information into the same file as the image itself.

An external database will allow searching the photo's data a lot
faster than having it dig through the tags in the images - but
using the tags is like writing on the back of the photo. Unless
it is removed, that info is stuck with the photo even if you make
copies, share with others, etc. 20 years from now, so long as a
jpeg can still be opened, that info will still be with it. Nearly
all photo tools today honor the tags, unlike even a few years ago.

You made no mention of the OS. I have no suggestions for MSWin or
Mac. Digikam has been the one I find I most recommend. But even
with that one there is a menu setting for "store the info in the
image tags" and it is off by default.

Finally, if you use an on-line photo archive, be respectful of the
privacy of (especially still living) people. Some/many/all of the
online methods will make use of facial recognition and other
processes that might be considered invasive by some people. Once
the information is "out", there is no way to ever get it back "in".

It has been very frustrating to watch the D's (mostly IMO) turn the
crisis into a political maneuver to improve their agenda, especially
when we see the things they choose as being essential Vs those they
deem non-essential.   For instance, abortion clinics are essential
while hip and knee replacements are non-essential. (that decision must
have been made by someone never needed a new knee or hip).
Liquor Stores were declared early on to be essential.  They used some
kind of Bizzaro logic to come up with the declarations they did.

Now they want to postpone the full opening of some states until a
vaccine is discovered.  But there may never be a vaccine!  I know we
are capable of many things and a Vaccines would msolve any problems
but it's just not realistic

[MBZ] Why does billg smile when he talks about people dying from WRD?

2020-05-26 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes

Bill Gates admits 700,000 people will be harmed or killed by his
 COVID-19 “solution”

by:Sara Middleton, staff writer
|May 24, 2020

(NaturalHealth365 ) It’s hard to imagine
any billionaire being reckless with his money. Yet for some reason, Bill
Gates says he’s willing to throw billions of dollars at corona (CV)
vaccine research even though many people believe it will be a complete
waste of time and effort.

In a recent interview, Gates also let it slip that what CV vaccine
researchers are pushing for is poised to harm hundreds of thousands of
people – yet he still wants one available inless than a year and a half
.
All in the name of protecting public health, right?

ALL HANDS ON DECK: Bill Gates is pumping billions of dollars into
vaccine research to “accelerate” drug development

TheBill & Melinda Gates Foundation
says they
want there to be a CV vaccine available to the masses within 12 to 18
months. Not suprisingly,Business Insider
reports
that Gates is funding the construction of at least seven different
factories, each testing a different candidate for a novel CV vaccine.

Yet only one or two of these potential vaccine candidates will be
selected for further development, while the other candidates – and the
factories making them – will be abandoned.*This means over 70 percent of
his “investment” will be completely wasted*.

Gates has said he’s willing to take the hit on this since it will
accelerate vaccine development. All that hurry and waste just to get a
vaccine out on the market ASAP?  Let’s stop for a moment to consider the
skyrocketing unemployment rates and devastating insolvency that millions
of people around the world are now facing because of state and federal
responses to CV.

If Gates wants to use his tremendous resources to support the public
good, you’d think there he could find a more efficient and effective way
to do so, rather than building useless infrastructure.

JAW-DROPPING: Gates acknowledges even flu shots aren’t effective
for older adults and issues an (almost) unbelievable warning

Vaccines, of course, are not foolproof nor fully effective/even when
provided a more appropriate amount of time for research and development./

Gates admits as much in a recent interview with CNBC, where he bluntly
states that even the seasonal “flu vaccine isn’t that effective” in
older people – the/exact/population of people who are targeted for the
vaccine itself.

Gates also has some brazen things to say about the CV vaccine currently
in the pipeline. View the video below to listen for yourself:

https://www.naturalhealth365.com/bill-gates-vaccine-research-3413.html

*We have to ask ourselves*:

Why does Bill Gates always have a habit of smiling when he talks
about people getting hurt?

“We clearly need a vaccine that works in the upper age range because
they’re most at risk,” Gates says. Because of this, he suggests the CV
vaccine will need to be made more potent (“you have to amp it up”) in
order to work for older people – as well as, we presume, all the younger
healthy people who will be told to take it, too. And because of this
increase in potency, Gates casually estimates that at least 700,000
people will “suffer” from side effects of whatever vaccine gets created.

We know the CV vaccine is going to be propagandized as a “necessary”
step in protecting the community and especially its most vulnerable
people. Yet from the mouth of one of the loudest, most influential, and
wealthiest drug pushers out there, we’re now hearing confirmation that
widespread health consequences are certain. All this for a drug that
will be rapidly made and furiously pushed out onto the market.

Tell us again the level of cognitive dissonance required to tout this
“solution” as safe and effective.

Check out:
https://www.oilburners.net

I've been a member there for over 10 years, since I have 5 Ford Diesel
trucks.
Poke around, there is an entire section that deals with Ford gas trucks
also... Chassis issues are the same, regardless of engine.. Diesel truck
has their own fuel issues,,.. Gas trucks have theirs. Different tanks and
pumps, etc... otherwise, running gear is the same.

Might help you locate maintenance items to look at, or look for.. Good
luck.. Pretty good bunch of folks there.

I have one of those engines, complete with automatic transmission. Setting
in a shipping crate, removed from a wreck in Europe, has the instrument
cluster from the car that shows 107,000 miles.
Complete from fan to tail shaft. 240D.
Cash accepted without proper ID.. Say, $1,200 FOB Phoenix, Az. Shipping is
on your nickle.

I'd bet our tax dollars are paying for the patient care, not the death
certificate, and the death certificate doesn't change the payment.

I'd also guess in most cases, the death certificate doesn't determine
whether it's statistically tabulated as a WhuFlu death.

[MBZ] Back from Maine

2020-05-26 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
Well we made our trip to Maine. The weather was outstanding, no rain for 9
days. It must have rained right before we went though, there were big water
holes that dried up over the week. The beavers had been very successful damming
up the outlet of our pond, it was up around 2 feet. I shot some video of taking
the stuff off the outlet pipe, the drain was pretty amazing, took off about an
acre foot (around 325,851 gallons) in about 10 minutes. The suction on the pipe
was such that I had to give up pulling out sticks because I was afraid it would
pull me down.
Sadly 2 of the beavers did not survive the adventure. Possibly more, we left
yesterday but my parents are still there.
We found northern Maine to be almost completely unaffected by COVID. Arostook
county is the largest in the state has at last check 8 confirmed cases. Masks
were suggested everywhere but only about 50% of people were wearing them. We
could get all kinds of food and paper products unavailable at home. I scored a
12 pack of Quilted Northern TP, 25# of King Arthur flour and bread machine
yeast. The flour was $18 compared to $1/lb we've been paying at the co-op. We
found another place that had 50# for $23. I think folks up there carry more
stock on hand anyway, when its -40F and there's 4 feet of snow you don't really
get interested in the grocery store.
Thursday we rented kayaks ($70 for 2) and picked 25# of fiddleheads. I'm
currently waiting for the sun to go down so we can blanch and freeze them. Its
too hot here to work outside and I don't want that excess heat and humidity in
the house.
We're planning to go back in early July, we'll see if anything has changed by
then.

Re: [MBZ] What is the deal with light bulbs?

The LEDs last practically forever, I've had a CREE LED bulb controller die in
as few as 5 years. That was a 20 dollar bulb when it was new.Probably has a
warranty, not worth chasing it down.
I recently got a 60w equivalent Sylvania LED for $0.50 on close out at our
local hardware store. Got 4x 100w equivalent for $2.99...

of those CFL bulbs fairly cheap. Lowes only had a couple of choices of
these and they were expensive.  It seems most of the bulbs now offered
are LED.  They are not exactly cheap but were cheaper than the CFL bulbs
they had.  I got the cheapest per bulb I could find and the highest I
found were 60W equivalent.  I did find some 75W but they were much more
expensive and only in a 2 or 4 pack IIRC.  So are guess LED is what
everything is going to? How long are these things supposed to last?  I
ended up spending way more than I wanted to between the fixtures and the
various bulbs we needed for the house.

[MBZ] Clear coat thinner?

2020-05-26 Thread Andrew Strasfogel via Mercedes
I ordered a touch up paint kit that included a small bottle of clear coat.

The paint was fine but the clear coat was syrupy and impossible to apply
thinly. Is there a solvent I can add that will thin it out somewhat?

Re: [MBZ] OT Wuhan Red Death: Can't trust the numbers

2020-05-26 Thread Meade Dillon via Mercedes
I read an article earlier today that talked about the roles of who decides
if a death is counted as COVID or not. The Doctor signs the death
certificate, and that is the official cause of death, and I'm sure Karl is
right in that the vast majority are doing the right thing and making the
best call they can.

The disconnect happens when the county / state report up their numbers to
the CDC, because they are under no obligation to use the cause of death
listed on the certificate. They follow the CDC guidelines, which don't
even require a positive test for WRD (Wuhan Red Death) and so there is
plenty of opportunity to steer the numbers. FL is accused of
under-reporting, and NY is accused of over-reporting.

As usual, we've got the best government that money can buy, and as a result
the "official" numbers are not really trusted by anybody, making a
reasonable debate very difficult to have.

That is all, carry on.

I have cousins and their/my kids who have an interest in this stuff, and
I guess I do to some extent, at least to look at them again and maybe
share some memories of the people and places and things.  But yeah it is
a big job, I know that.  I figure once I get the setup done I can scan a
bunch of pics at once then go through and annotate them.  Maybe no one
will care, I don't know, but putting them in electronic format will make
them available to all if they have an interest.

The interface to this scanner is a total PITA though, it says it will
duplex scan, and I have gone through the settings, but it is only
getting one side of the pic, some have notes on the back. aaarhhh

I totally understand your position. However, with the slides, which my Mom had
been storing for literally decades in her outdoor shed, my siblings wanted to
be able to have copies for their viewing pleasure and to pass to their
children. Me? I don’t really care. Much the same as when we were kids and Dad
would get the Carousel projector out for “slide night” and we would all run
like rats from a sinking ship.

The photos were mostly of our kids growing up and the wife’s family. I want my
kid’s pictures, the in laws, meh. I don’t know most of the people in them so
they don’t hold any significance for me, but the wife wanted them. It was
helpful having them when her father passed so we could make a slide show of him
and a lot of his family for the memorial service.

I think my biggest peeve with this stuff is that no one is alive today that can
identify a lot of the people in the images, making them even less valuable from
a sentimental standpoint.

For what it’s worth, I vacuum sealed the slides in large “bricks” when I was
done and put them in deep storage. I’ve got the electronic files and DVDs
they’re burned to if I ever want to look at any of them. It was a massive
undertaking, but it’s done and won’t have to be repeated. At this point I’ll
leave it to my heirs to throw them away.

Take all the boxes of photos, and throw them away.

Ask yourself honestly: how often do you look at this old stuff. Is it
*really* meaningful to you or are you just saving it out of some vague
guilty feeling that you should.

When my mom died, I moved dozens of boxes of photos from her house to
mine. Felt that it would be a shame to throw them away. The fact that
SHE had never gotten around to doing anything with them should have been
a clue.

A few years later, they were all still untouched in my basement. I
finally admitted to myself that I did not have enough interest in these
to be worth keeping them, and threw them all away. It was a relief that
I no longer had to see all those boxes and feel guilty about having done
nothing with them.

Let me give you some advice:

I had this situation in two forms, over 8,000 35mm slides, and close to 3,000
photographs, about 6-8 years ago.

I bought a Nikon 35mm slide scanner and devoted nearly two whole weeks of time,
non-stop, probably 6-8 hours a day, to d the slides. It was a flipping
nightmare, made better (compared to scanning photos) by the fact that
everything was a consistent size and the software I used to import handled the
naming/exposure. It was still a nightmare.

When it was time to do the photos I sent them off to a lab that did it and paid
a lump sump for all of them to be scanned, put on a CD and made available for
download. It was worth every penny. I think it cost under $500, more like $350
if I recall correctly.

That being said, I was once again faced with a huge pile of photographs for
scanning from the mother in law about a year ago. I bought a purpose-built
scanner with very good software from Epson. Epson FastFoto FF-640. It wasn’t
cheap ($400) but it does a heck of a job and continues to provide excellent and
fast scanning capabilities for photos and documents.

Your time has value.

Re: [MBZ] Crack in radiator

2020-05-26 Thread OK Don via Mercedes
I only figured out the plastic epoxy after I needed to repair the battery
box in the airplane. It's a plastic box with a drain nipple for a rubber
hose that sticks out the bottom of the fuselage. we found the drain nipple
broken off the bottom of the box during that last annual inspection, and
some etching of the fuselage skin from the battery acid. My son cleaned up
and neutralized the acid (he does this for a living on KC-135's for the Air
Force), and I experimented with the plastic epoxies for find one that would
work for gluing a new nipple into the bottom of the box. The IA approved
the repair and signed the log book.
So far, it's looking good.
So, yes, I used it on the airplane!

Re: [MBZ] Way OT: Photo management/sharing database-type software

2020-05-26 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Allan,

2020-05-26 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes
Gotcha.  I was going to get my daughter busy on it since she has been
camping here.  This scanner should do the job once I figure out how to
get it going (the software is not entirely intuitive) and then I guess I
will tag the pics after I run them through.  It supposedly does duplex
scanning so it will get the backs of photos that have notes.

I'll give you another perspective.

If you are going to tackle this yourself and are using a relatively new (less
than 10 years old) Mac OS, “Photos” (no longer “iPhoto") will handle all of
your tags and other goodies quite well. It will also do facial recognition for
you, too, although it will take a little time to train it.

Re: [MBZ] Crack in radiator

2020-05-26 Thread OK Don via Mercedes
I'd try this stuff after a through cleaning and scuffing all around the
neck.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000ALBZK8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8=1
First a layer of epoxy, then a layer of fiberglass cloth or something else
strong wrapped around the neck, then another layer of the epoxy.

[MBZ] Way OT: Photo management/sharing database-type software

2020-05-26 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes
I have boxes and boxes of old family photos.  I bought a Brother ADS
2700W scanner I am going to use to scan these photos.  I need some sort
of management app where I can put in a descriptor, names/places, years,
etc. to set up some sort of searchable database of all these pics, then
share the database/photos somehow/where for the extended family to access.

The device has some sort of associated app called PaperPort I downloaded
and will be trying out, it looks kinda clunky on a quick look but maybe
it will suffice to get them into a scanned file.  It doesn't seem to
allow annotation of images (only PDFs) with other descriptors.

Google, Amazon, Picasa, Photobucket and others are online storage apps
that I know a little about, Amazon just seems to be a place to store
photos and vids, but no details on how to set it up to do what I want to
do.  Google seems about the same.

Anyone ever done something like this?

Re: [MBZ] OT Wuhan Red Death: Can't trust the numbers

2020-05-26 Thread Meade Dillon via Mercedes
Humans are curious, especially curious about human death. Where someone
got infected and later that person died, the "where" "how" and "what"
killed them are what we want to know. Many people die in the hospital,
knowing that doesn't scratch the itch. Knowing where they were and how
they got infected, that is more important to me and I suspect most humans.

Another interesting fact about this disease: many of the infections occur
in clusters in households where people are locked down / social
distancing. I suspect stigma, fear of treatment and belief that there is
no treatment / no cure are keeping people at home too long, and then when
they go to the hospital or emergency room, if they are not "sick enough"
they get sent right back home with orders to self quarantine. These
actions pretty much ensure that everyone or most of the people in that
house get infected.

I'd trust JB-Weld for a repair, IFF you can splint over the crack. That and
clean everything very well. This assuming the crack was caused by trauma,

No argument with any of your points.
Here's my point: If nursing home patients get transported to a hospital
before they expire does it reduce the number of nursing home deaths?
If sick prison inmates are transported to a hospital, where they die in a

What should it be recorded as? The person died in the hospital.

There will always be data irregularities but the idea the hospitals are
somehow systematically having doctors enter fraudulent codes on death
certificates is pure BS. 1) it's a felony, with no benefit to a doctor to do
that, 2) we test everyone and we know whether they have covid 19 or not, so
there is no uncertainty 3) the people who die of covid pneumonia in hospital
have imaging ample imaging and other studies to back up their diagnoses.

The idea that hospitals can somehow control what I write in a death
certificate is laughable. I have zero incentive to lie about anything. The
hospital doesnt get paid any more or any less whether someone has pneumonia
from covid or another virus. All this stuff is politically motivated trolls
casting aspersions on electronic media. It would not surprise me if these
ideas originate outside the US in many cases.

Covid deaths at the beginning were vastly undercounted - not over counted.
A glance at the excess monthly mortality by year tells the story. People
were dying but we had no way to diagnose them because even hospitals could
not do tests.

That doesn't even touch on the loss of liberty, intrusion on freedom, and
the "mommy state" telling us what we can and cannot do. "Wear your jacket!"
"Don't go outside until you put on your Wellingtons!" "I'm cold, you need
to wear a jacket."

Freedom means the individual gets to choose what they think is best - even
if they are wrong.

If someone feels they are at risk, they can stay home. Or wear a mask. Or
keep 12 ft away. But don't force me to hide under my bed because you are
afraid, and I won't force you to leave your house and take off your
breathing mask.
