Re: [MBZ] OK Don's Geothermal Setup [was: Re: Burnin' daylight]

2015-01-24 Thread Robert Massmann via Mercedes
I have geothermal heat for my house. I have two individual units so that
depending on demand the smaller one would come on when primary doesn't have
the out to keep up with the heat load. The backup strips are generally for
when the heat pumps do not have the capacity to match the BTU lose and the
strips come on general commanded by a three stag thermostat. Heat pumps are
with water heat exchangers would be preferred over the the outdoor units
that pull the heat from the air. These generally stop working and rely on
heater strips when temperature difference becomes to great. My loop line is
at the bottom of a small pond in front of our house. Incoming water temp to
our unit gets down to just below 40 deg F toward the end of the winter. So
far this winter my heater strips have never come on.

I was under the impression that geothermal was intended for places where it
was cold in winter where an air source heat pump was fine in places where it
didn't get too cold. I'm also disappointed to find out that the supplemental
heat has to come on at 10F with geothermal. I was under the impression that
300' down the temp was pretty steady. Is it because OK is so dry that there
is trouble shedding cold down there?

You have the perfect climate for a geothermal heat pump. Not too cold in
winter.

location of the unit to another room, installed the new hot water heater

Haven't work on the back but I think it must be done as every time I go over
sharp bumps, I get knock sounds from something in the back. It has been a
bit annoying lately. There are a lot of linkages back there.

I ended up with a very nice ride this afternoon after taking my car in for
an alignment. I haven't found any shops here that have the special equipment
so I took it to the dealer. I had a 50 dollar service coupon so it won't be
to bad. But they had to give me a loaner car for the night a brand new C300
4matic. It only has 2600 miles on it. What a nice ride, quite a change from
my 20 year old E300. I had to get some tutoring before I left for general
operation of the vehicle.

Center link on this car is fixed, thank goodness. The tie rod was set with a
narrow metal tape measure and wrapped it around the whole assembly, kind a

before the work. Have an appointment for an alignment tomorrow.

If you replace a tie rod end and don't get the length right, the car won't
necessarily pull, but the toe-in will be incorrect and the steering wheel
will

be off center.
If you get the center link wrong, the steering wheel will be off center.

If your steering wheel is centered, you're probably OK, unless both parts
are

out of adjustment and moving the wheel in opposite directions.

[MBZ] My shaky front end is FIXED on my 95 E300D

2015-06-23 Thread Robert Massmann via Mercedes
Over the weekend I changed center steering link, the right tie rod assembly,
and the idler arm bushing. The left tie rod assembly was changed earlier. I no
longer get the front end shake above sixty. I actually need to be careful to
watch my speed as I did like the vibration I had above 60 mph. I also had all (
4 ) tires balance rechecked. I could see wear on the OD of Idler arm bushings.

Not sure what part or combination of parts fixed the issue, but it is gone.
Alignment must be pretty close as I do not sense any pull one direction or the
other.

Happy motoring now!

[MBZ] 1995 E300D Idler arm bushing Change and suspension work

2015-06-17 Thread Robert Massmann via Mercedes
This weekend I will changing out the bushing on my steering idler arm.
Reviewing the service manual, I thought that the bushing need to be installed
in a certain orientation, because the bushing themselves have a red-band around
one portion od the outer diameter. The instructions do not mention anything
about orienting the bushing when I looked it over. Hopefully when I go to
remove the old ones, I may see if the same marking is on the old ones.

I will also be changing center rod, right steering link, and the steering
dampener. Lower ball joints and left steering were replaced ( 2 – 3 ) years ago.

Replacement is probably due, as the car now has 420,000 miles on it!

Hey Robert, long time no post!

Good luck with that, I don't remember anything about the orientation when I
replaced those bushings on my '95. I do remember that there is one or two
exhaust heat shields that you need to remove in order to get a good attack

'87 300TD, 124.193, 343k miles. Help me with some diagnosis ideas please.
At highway speed, sometimes the steering wheel will shake, most of the time
it will not. Today it would shake during a turn at highway speed, and
turning left or right would make it shake. Occasionally, on the first
acceleration to highway speed, once I get above 50 mph or so, it will shake
while going straight, and then stop after 5 - 10 seconds. After a shaking
episode, the car is fine for the rest of the day.

A few weeks ago I had the car aligned. I've just installed a set of used
tires on the front axle; these were the best two taken off my '95 sedan a
couple weeks ago.

Paid extra for Road Force balancing:

http://www.gsp9700.com/search/findgsp9700.cfm

Most of the front-end components are fairly new and either OE from MB or
Rusty parts. Struts, lower control arm inner bushings, ball joints,
idler arm bushings. I'm not sure about the steering damper. The wheel
bearings were checked and packed with fresh grease about 7 years / 40k
miles ago.

It makes me think that is we did this today, a glider club could launch
sailplanes twice as fast as they do with the tow plane landing after each
tow - they could just circle around, constantly pulling gliders into the
air - too cool. My 182 used to have a glider tow hook, might have to find

[MBZ] Finally had to have My Mercedes Towed

2016-07-27 Thread Robert Massmann via Mercedes
Well it finally happened, I had to have my 95 Mercedes E300D towed home. The
serpentine belt tensioner pulley seized. I have attached a photo of what was
left. The bearing assembly got very hot as you can see. I initially notice my
ABS light turning on and of then all the lower warning lights came on dimly.
The next thing I noticed was the engine temp starting to climb. Luckily I was
close to an exit and got off the interstate. Toward the end I lost all power
for steering, but could still steer, but with difficulty. Parked in an open lot
and called (AAA). Engine got hot but was not in the red. I had replaced the
alternator last fall, but didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary when I was
reinstalling the belt.

Granted, I have just turned over 445,000 miles on this car, it is serving me
very well for the last ( 7 –8 ) years that I have been driving it. Would like
to see the 1/2 million mile mark, which might take another ( 2 ) years.

Got it running today! Only had one leak, at the one of the trans cooler
lines coming out of the trans. Had to remove the line to swap the engine. I
had put new 'O' rings on the lines not sure why it was leaking. Tighten up
the clamp plate that holds them hopefully that will stop it.

I have a few other things to fix before I put back on the ground for a test
drive.

[MBZ] Fw: Fw: New Ignition Switch Issue 95 E300D

2016-10-19 Thread Robert Massmann via Mercedes
I ordered and got my new tumbler and key for my 95 E300D. The internet
mercedes shop I was dealing with could not supply a matching key and tumbler
to the car. I was amazed when I found out the local Mercedes dealership
charged the same price for the tumbler and key, and I didn't even have to
pay shipping. I ordered it on Monday and picked it up today. I got installed
when I got home tonight.

The steps I went through to complete the key/tumbler change, which was made
more difficult because I couldn't get the key back to the removal position.

1) Remove the the headlight control knob, should be just a straight pull of
the knob
2) Removed the plastic trim that hides the screws that hold the lower dash
cover below the steering column
3) I removed the instrument cluster to access the ( 2 ) screws that hold the
steering column

4) You may need to disconnect the wires from the steering itself
5) I tried to remove the steering column, but couldn't figure that out ( I
have an electric advance-retract column )
6) Since the tumbler is in the off position, the push pin, see attached
photo, can not be depressed to release the steering lock assembly from the
steering column.

7) Remove the screw that clamps the steering lock to the steering column.
8) Then grind the release pin down until can removed the steering lock
assembly, you may need to towels and rags to protect the car interior
9) I next removed the ( 2 ) screws that attach steering column to the dash
structure, this is done so that you can remove the steering lock assembly
from the column
10) Rotate the column clockwise until you have the room to pull and remove
the steering lock assembly from the column
11) With the steering lock out, you can grind through the steel protective
sleeve to gain access to the hole to release tumbler from the steering lock.
You need to make ( 2 ) cuts 180 degrees apart, I actually had to make
a third cut, to remove the sleeve
NOTE: Be very careful how deep you go, if you go too deep you may make the
steering lock housing unusable
12) At this point you can assemble the steering lock assembly back into the
steering column try to center the push pin with the hole in the steering
column and tighten the

 clamp screw
13) You now can reattach the steering column to the dash and put the
instrument cluster back
14) If you have the new tumbler and protective sleeve these can be installed
now, make sure the ignition switch is in the run position and with the steel
protective sleeve over the tumbler and key installed in tumbler, orient the
key to match the position of the ignition and slide the assembly into the
steering lock and push until the sleeve locks in place. Take this part
carefully, as I didn't get it in the correct position and had to remove it
and realigned things and try again.

15) reinstall dash covers and plastic and you should be good to go!

Bob, explain this again? How did you get up to the point that you could
use the abrasive cut-off wheel? I think you said that you removed the
entire steering column?

I'm going to have a similar fight with the "95 124 Cabriolet, keys are
missing and the ignition tumbler / lock assembly looks like it has been
broken free of the steering column in a failed attempt to steal the car. I
have the steering column from Wilton's '87 300D, plan is to install that
with a new tumbler matched to the VIN so one key opens doors and trunk as
well as operates the ignition.

Thanks,

I found out you can't drill out the lock or the protective sleeve. I
took the front plate from a 123 to th a guy who was selling carbide
drill bits that were 'indestructible" and would "drill through
anything." It dulled his drill. The drill barely made a dent. He
asked what it was. I said Kryptonite!

I had gotten the front plate out by grinding off the protective sleeve
and then the lock.

Max,

I got hung up trying to remove the steering column and had to grind the
steering lock retaining pin. Normally this pin can be pushed in if the tumbler
is in the run position. Since I couldn't turn the key from the off position, I
had to grind the pin. This allowed me to then pull the steering lock assembly
and try to get the key to work of the steering column, which it didn't and I
then used an abrasive wheel to cut the steel protective ring. Then I had access

I will add to this later as I am getting ready to travel to Seabrook, NH for

Below is what I got back from the online order department. I can get key and
tumbler, but it will not match :(.

The tumbler that would fit your car is a TRP item which can only be purchased
and installed through your local Mercedes dealer. The one you ordered is one
that does not require a VIN and will not be cut to your car.

Thanks,
Max

Re: [MBZ] New Ignition Switch Issue 95 E300D

2016-10-15 Thread Robert Massmann via Mercedes
Well I got the steering lock out steering colum. I ground the locking pin
until the assembly came out since I couldn't get the key to turn. Semi good
news is that the same lock mechanism is in my dead 87 "190 2.5 Turbo diesel.

Question should I be able to pull the connector plug on the end of the
ignition switch with the tumbler still in place or will I have to start
cutting.

The plan is to use the steering lock and tumbler from the 190 and get a
matching tumbler for the E300D, so I do not have to dig into and change all
the locks over!

You're going to wish you'd never turned it to "lock" when it didn't want to
go.
Wilton got lucky, attached his key to a vibrating detail sander and buzzed
the
cylinder wafers into the 'unlocked' position one last time so he could
remove

the cylinder.

I have a 95 E300D and have put almost 200,000 miles on it and it still 30
plus miles to the gallon. In another 50,000 miles it will have covered
500,000 miles. Living in Ohio rust is showing up in many different places
fender trunk and below taillight assemblies.

It is a joy to drive. Do not know how much longer I will be driving it?

The fleet is moving in this direction.

Eldest son sold the Tommymobile today for $1200, roughly what was paid for
it two years ago. Not a bad ROI, considering.

That money now comes to me and he is the new owner of the 95 E300D. Another
convert!

As an aside, I have put 180 miles on it since it's first fill up and it
still has 2/3 of a tank of fuel left. I'm dying to see what the mileage
figure is going to be for it

It might be someone else they you may be thinking of as the A/C system is
working fine, except when to control system decides to act up. Driving my
2002 BMW 525i more now. BMW still need to several things fixed like a bent
right front fender and getting the A/C back up and working after the engine
swap. System was open when I removed the engine accessories to install on
the donor engine. Will have to do some research on what I should do before I
recharge the system with new fluid. Kind of surprised car gas mileage is (
28.3 mpg ).

I have been out of town the last several weeks so haven't had much time at

I got all the front flex disk bolts off but one, which I need to rotate
the shaft before I can get at it, but the rear wheels are on the ground so
I will need to get that up, or disconnect the rear too. It was
interesting that this thing has been sitting a year or more, but the flex

keep around.

I cut out all the front of the frame so I can slide the engine right out,
I might just lift it up a bit and roll the car out from under it once I
get the driveshaft and connector disconnected. I have the front wheels on
ramps now, if I roll it back that would drop the car down and leave the
engine up a bit, I'll figure it out. The $20 HF sawzall went right
through that metal like butter, it is pretty soft steel.

On another note, that saw is still going strong after like 3 years of
abuse, definitely got my money's worth on that thing.

When I had an accident in my E300D the insurance company wouldn't let me use
any original junk yard part. I think they were bound and determined to make
sure my car was totaled. Damage was right front bumper, head light, right
fender, and hood. I kept the car and the insurance company gave me the
difference. I rebuilt with salvage yard parts got it repainted and still had
a $900 in my pocket. I am still driving it, with 459,000 miles on the
odometer.

The adjuster came out and took a look at Allen. He found more damage than
just the bumper. Seems she came deep under the car and bent some of the
sheet metal under the plate. Shifted the gaps for the trunk as well. His
estimate was around $1380. If the body shop finds more damage they will pay
more.

I took it to the shop I like about an hour ago. They said they can not work
on it because they do not use single stage paint, just water based. They
also could not match colors. They recommended a shop 15 miles away. The
car drives ok for now.

Do I really need to address the out of spec sheet metal? I might be able to
source a bumper and shock to make that stuff better.

I am not yet able to bend over or crawl around under the car due to the head
injury messing with balance. I have yet to see the extent of underside
damage. I did not see damage to the spare wheel well from inside.

Re: [MBZ] Cold starting issue - glow plugs?

2017-12-28 Thread Robert Massmann via Mercedes

Andrew,

Sounds a little like my 85 300CD, I had too stop driving it in the the
winter time because it wouldn't start even with fresh glow plugs. Turned out
to be low compression, which is needed to get the fuel to ignite. Glow plugs
draw at least 10 amps and then drops of slightly as the plug warms up. You
could also check and see if you may have a large voltage drop on the
individual glow plug wires to make sure you do not have higher than normal
resistance in each of the glow plug wires. To much of a voltage drop means
the cglow plug will not get full voltage and will not heat up fully as
needed!

On my W123 300TD, I am having a hard time getting it started when the
temperature dips below 20 F despite the car being plugged into the block
heater. It takes 2 minutes of multiple glows and attempts before I can get
it fired up. Once I get it started the engine runs as if it were preheated.

Question: Does this sound like a glow plug issue? Do the plugs wear out or
simply fail? If one is dead will the other 4 start the car, albeit
laboriously?

Happy 2018 to all,

I just noticed yesterday that the "check engine" icon was lit. This is a
generic, non-specific alert that the owner'smanual says I must get

I hesitate to take the car into the dealership for what they might tell
me... so I would probably ask my indy tech if he had the computer hookup

can self-evaluate the issue that has caused the check engine light to
illuminate?
Suggestions?

May view would be to sell as is due to age and mileage. Nicely appointed,
but once you start mucking about with the door electronics, the likelihood
of greater damage incurred in replacing the failed wires would reduce sales
price. Could take a look at how the wires are routed from the opposing
door and maybe you find a way to put 12v so it can pop open for repair?
Did you check fuses. Dr. Booth admonished all to check and replace fuses,
which alleviated a plethora of issues.

we have used it for camping trips into the Smokes and to the East coast

I have spent the last several weeks cleaning it up, inside and out and
during this time frame the passenger door power door cable decided to
break. No problem it has a manual mode, but when I closed the sliding door
the latches jammed and I can not get the door open. For some reason the
sliding door refuses to release and open.

My options are, sell as is, or fix the sliding door than sell.

A complete door from a pick-n-pull is about $75, if I wanted to take the
time and destroy the current door to get it open. Or I could try and start
pulling interior panel and seeing if I can get the door open. Just not
sure if it is worth it to try to fix before selling it?

Just trying to put it out there on which way to go.

I am retired, so I can take whatever time is needed.

Thank you, sorry it not a Mercedes question.

Unfortunately it is the passenger side door, which is used more often than
the drivers side door, which still works just fine, electrically or

It has two sliding doors?
You only need one, but there's a big difference between 17 years old,
everything works, and I'm selling it because it's not worth fixing this
stupid door.

Sad that it picked now to fail. Or is it the door you never use and it
failed because you opened it after a long hiatus? If it's the door you
never use, that tilts the balance more towards 'forget it'.

Re: [MBZ] OT: Now it's the washing machine

2020-10-17 Thread Robert Massmann via Mercedes
I avoid any LG product ever since I had purchased a Kenmore Elite frig that
was made for them by LG. Interior latches broke because the springs were to
stiff. Roller wheels shafts broke from their mountings. The last straw was
when the interior light didn't shut off when the door was closed, got so hot
that the plastic bezel and lamp mounted deformed and melted. Oh and they had
to send me money every year because them fibbed about its energy usage.

I have replaced it with a Samsung which hopefully, is be better engineered
than the LG, but only time will tell.

Well the new LG washer ate its drain pump. Lasted a couple years max. Of
course it probably did 5 million loads of Laundry during that time. I
wonder if it has a load counter on it.

LG has only one warehouse and its in AL. So we are without a washer until
next week. Kind of unbelievable given they sell the machines at Home Depot.
I should have just bought a pump on amazon prime.

[MBZ] My first car

2021-02-02 Thread Robert Massmann via Mercedes
My first car was a 1968 Camaro, looked a lot like this on bring a trailer. Mine
had 327 V8 with factory four speed. Paint was a light metallic green. It also
had the SS detail package with factory gauge package. Bought it when I was in
the Navy in 1972. It had been wrenched at some point. Only sold it for about
2500. Would be worth a lot more now, if only I new. Replaced it with Mazda RX-3
wagon, because I was fly radio control gliders, which was kind of hard to

Kaleb,

Several years ago, I purchased a car from boatangel ministers, I was the
second highest bidder and the winning bidder reneged on the deal. The
sellers gave me and asked if I want to purchase the vehicle as the second
highest bidder. I am not sure what they did to accomplish this, but I ended
up with the car at my original bid amount. Just for your info, not sure how

So ran this ML again which ended last night at over $3k. Just like the
first time, no response from high bidder. It has not yet been 24 hours
but I am not holding my breath. After doing a little research on the
ebay forums, come to find out, in vehicle auctions the deadbeat bidder
does not even get an unpaid item strike as they consider these auctions
non binding. WTF? There is absolutely no way to hold these buyers
accountable at all. Not only that, you have to pay each time to relist
it. Maybe this is a sign I should just keep the thing, or maybe try a
listing instead of an auction.

guess, I got most everything done right. Have been driving it for at least 5

coolant leak into the oil and the car sat for about 6 months, cam was badly
rusted on top.

Needs a new engine, would be lots of work to sort out what's in there,
and worse since you don't know what happened to it. Be easier to just
drop in a replacement if you could find one from a knacker. Price is
too high though for a car with a bad engine.

Maybe. Sometimes in a photo, shadows and reflections can look like dents --
that said, if you're shopping for 8-10 year old cars it is going to be rare
to find one without a ding or scratch somewhere.

Good question about the engine cover, maybe removed for the photo but
certainly would be a question for the seller.

It's a Blutec, so it has a DPF, I don't know if it's possible to evaluate
the condition of those but that would be my concern if everything else
checks out. If it got regular long-ish highway trips it probably had
adequate opportunity for the "regen" cycles to complete. If it was used
mostly for in-town, short trips I'd be more cautious.

Then you need to consider *your* driving routine. If this is a car that
will

mostly be driven short trips for shopping and work maybe diesel isn't the
best option. If you'll be doing regular longer fast highway runs, it could
be great.

I will be picking up the 2012 Mercedes ML350 diesel tomorrow. So it should
be interesting learning with the new car. It has many new features that the
X3 or my previous 1995 Mercedes E300D didn't have, so it will be a bit of a
learning curve. I will get a nice initial drive in it, with a 120 mile trip

I am not sure, prices ranged were from 18K - 23K. There also weren't as many
diesel version to choose from. Diesels may not have been as desirable and
were a little lower price. It is strange when looking at the cargurus web
page itwas listing at 18.5K, but when I went to the dealer it was list at
24.5K with a heavy discount. There was a 2014 ML350 Bluetec that I was also
considering. It was listed at 21K with 119,000 miles on it. It was white and
I really do not like white.

Would still like to get the 1985 300CD that I have back on the road. Stopped
driving due need for and engine rebuild. Maybe one of these since I have
retired.

Re: [MBZ] Looking for My next Mercedes

2022-01-15 Thread Robert Massmann via Mercedes
All I had a very nice ride home, but was a bit nervous drive my brand new car
in track. The new car does have the vehicle collision avoidance warning
indication for changing lanes which is nice. It has navigation, heated seats,
retractable side mirrors, and other things that I have not discovered yet. The
bad news is NO operators manual. It is no where to be found, unless it has a
special storage compartment that I haven’t found. I did find a PDF copy of it
on MBUSA web site, I have downloaded and am starting to review. Will let you
know how things are going after I have driven it for awhile. Have schedule a
general car inspection at our local Mercedes dealer to make sure there are no
issue with the car, fingers crossed. This car requires DEF, so should be
interesting to see how often that needs to be refilled. Car has a little over
86,000 miles on it.

Hope all goes well?

[MBZ] My ML350 Bluetec Oil Cooler Seal Repair update

2022-03-04 Thread Robert Massmann via Mercedes
Yes I am still trying to finish the oil cooler seal replacement on my new to me
2012 ML350 diesel. I have the turbo back in and have to finish up connecting
the exhaust down pipe to the back of the turbo. I may have to take the car to
the dealer or a European indy to compete the second step after torqueing the
(3) screws to ( 20 NM). Step two is tightening the screws and additional ( 90
degs ). These screws face the engine bulkhead and is under engine shielding.
The top (2) are sort accessible but third is on the bottom with very little
access. Matter of fact I dropped the third screw and still need to find it.
Below is the link to where been posting most of my photos of this project.

Things to Complete list
1) Install O2 probe at elbow of exhaust pipe
2) Install new CCV valve assembly
3) Install fuel rail to fuel rail connection line
4) Double check that all fuel injector supply nuts have been torqued
5) Install new fuel filter ( I will prefill filter with fuel )
6) Install charge air from turbo to front of engine and turbo intercooler
7) Reinstall injector return fuel line
8) Install air intake assembly that connects to the turbo. ( I purchased new
seal for this joint )
9) Install all remaining electrical connectors
10) Install rear shield located behind turbo
11) Install new inlet air filters, left & right
12) Install the rest of the engine shielding
13) double check that all electrical and mechanical items
14) Install coolant that was drained from engine
15) test start engine ( May take several tries as fuel lines need to be
recharged )

Re: [MBZ] Oil Cooler Leak Repair ( 2012 ML350 Bluetec )

2022-02-24 Thread Robert Massmann via Mercedes
Andrew,

It will be interesting to see what they would say. My ML350 BT is covered by an
extended warranty due pollution control settlement agreed upon by the EPA and
Justice Dept . Any Bluetec diesel from 2009-2016 (OM 642 & OM 651) models are
covered by the extended warranty, link to the warranty document is below. My ML
350 had the pollution control updates completed just last December. So all the
pollution control equipment will be covered for (4) years or 48,000 miles,
whichever occurs first. It was interesting, I went back and reviewed the CARFAX
report and there was now mention of the pollution control update when it was
serviced at a Mercedes dealer in Kentucky just before it was put up for sale by
Jeff Wyler outside Cincinnati.

It should be interesting to see, if I can get reimbursed for the CCV valve (
$160 item ) that I am replacing during my oil cooler leak fix, it is the last
item in the list that is covered by the extended warranty.

2022-02-16 Thread Robert Massmann via Mercedes
I have working on it for about 4 days and may spend 4-5 hours each day.
Spent about 2 hours to get one exhaust to manifold bolts out. I believe the
tip threads were rusted being exposed to nature, slowly worked it out
without braking it. Have one more screw before I can lift the turbo out. But
need to buy an extended Torx to get to it. The only place this soot or what
ever it is, is coming fro the crankcase vent valve EGR system. I guess it is
a mixture?

I think I should replace it ( PCV ) valve assembly?

Re: [MBZ] Sad

There was a photo of the engine bay. Was wondering how much of is could be
used in my 85 300CD, that isn't running because of low compression?

I didn't see a photo of the engine bay to determine whether it's the
desirable 49 state version...

I don't carry full coverage on a car worth a few thousand dollars, for
exactly that reason.

Re: [MBZ] Looking for My next Mercedes

2022-01-18 Thread Robert Massmann via Mercedes
Well I had my new ML350 health checked today at the Mercedes dealer. On bad
thing was found and I didn't really see it when I looked at the
undercarriage. They say the seals of the oil cooler is leaking and is
draining down the side of the engine to the undercarriage panels. I have
looked at several YOUTUBE videos and it is a bit of work to complete. The
oil cooler is located in the vee between the heads and many things on top of
the engine need to be removed down to the 2 intake manifolds. Apparently
this a weak point and the oil seal begin to flatten and leak due the higher
operating temperature of the engine. So I will not be doing any long trips
until this gets fixed. Mercedes wants $3600 do complete the repair, seals
are only very small part of the cost. Between completing and engine swap on
BMW 5 series and changing a starter on BMW X3 which required disconnecting
the intake manifold, and replacing head gaskets, I think I should be able to
complete the repair. Not the thing I wanted to hear, but better to know
thank not to?

If the car doesn’t have towing setup you will have to try to add the nanny
and get a new controller happy. It is not easy. The brake and stability
controllers and the lights will not be happy without the tow nanny.

I would like to get a hitch on it to tow our popup camper. The trailer
wiring is going to be an issue. The computer that controls the lighting
(EVERYTHING is controlled by a computer on that SUV) is not going to like
any changes. It would be best to inquire about that on the main list. I
know NOTHING about Mercedes newer than 2008 or so. Geeze. The caps look
like I'm channelling Marshall Booth. Enjoy!
