Fancy Camera Strap

2023-02-02 Thread Bipin Gupta
Hi Friends, Arca Swiss QR Plates with Strap Lugs can be bought for US $ 6
to 22 with Free Shipping from AliExpress or WISH. These are available with
multiple options - D-Ring attached to a swivel Carabiner ($ 4 to 5), just
the swivel Carabiner ($ 2 to 3) to a round ringed slot in the QR Plate.
Some come with a hinged Lug. Most of these Plates also have strap lugs at
both ends to attach a nylon Camera Strap. These DO NOT interfere if the
Arca Swiss Plate is mounted to a Ball Head.
WISH has a Warehouse in Toronto so shipments come in fast. But AliExpress
shipments from China may take upto 1.5 months.
My Arca Swiss PU70 QR Plate has both the tripod Female Socket + Strap Lugs.
Regards.
Bipin from Thornhill Ontario.

Hmm. I'm just shy of 6' myself, with a long torso. I tend to carry my cameras
the same way. Probably just differences in arm length, shoulders, etc, along
with personal preferences. :)

I have a bunch of Peak Design anchors. They come in sets of two with an
Arca-Swiss compatible camera plate, and the anchors can be fitted to the camera
plate without interfering with the plate's function on a tripod. The PD plates
are thin and can be left fitted to the camera all the time, unless I want to
put the camera into a snugly fitted half case. One of my half-cases (The "Jason
Cui model" for the Leica CL) includes an externally accessible tripod screw
mount too.

All choices, and there are lots of good ones! :)

Yes, that’s correct. So I can mount the camera on the tripod with the strap
attached. Since the trap is a sling it’s quite long, so I sometimes boop the
strap over my head when using the tripod. It provides insurance againt spills.

Looks like the target market is photographers who use sling straps that
attach to the tripod socket on the bottom of a camera. One problem with
those is you have to disconnect the strap to put the camera on a tripod.

My Sun-Sniper strap clips on to the ring for a Manfrotto RC2 adapter,
but I still have to UN-clip to mount the camera on a tripod.

This looks like it will allow you to mount to the tripod without having
to remove the strap. I'd have to replace all my Manfrotto mounts with
Arca Swiss, but I think I'm kinda headed that way anyway.

Looks like they made their goal (more than made their goal - about 4.5x

Noting that "Rewards aren't guaranteed", I wonder when it will be

I use the Peak Design Leash strap, which max out at about 145cm (57 inches)

I looked at that project. The neat part of the base plate is that it takes the
load off the standard lugs (not designed for that kind of carry) and puts the
load at the base which allows the camera to lay flat more reliably.

It's primarily targeted to work with an SLR or largish EVF camera's shape and
largish lenses. It would be mostly useless with the different form factor and
relatively small/light lenses of a Leica M, for instance.

I use the Peak Design Leash strap, which max out at about 145cm (57 inches)
(plus a couple cm for the anchor bits). It's light, very strong, and easy to
use cross body, as well as easily length adjustable to suit your body and

Does anyone use any of the camera straps of the type that don't attach
to the normal camera strap mounts - rather they attach to a mechanism,
that screws into the tripod mount on the base plate, allowing the camera
to be carried upside down over the shoulder?

Any recommendations / pointers to manufacturers?

Re: Camera Strap

Not exactly what you are asking for, but FWIW...

I have used a simple attachment from strapbuddy.com (via BH or Adorama). A
simple circular plate with slightly offset slot. Attach plate to camera, strap
to slot, other end of strap to left-side lug on camera, and the camera is
oriented vertically rather than horizontally. Like you could do on the LX with
the front grip extender IIRC. Simple, secure, easy to attach, cheap.

Works ok, I have sworn off straps for the time being, will reassemble

Re: Camera Strap

Yep. I use a Black Rapid sling style strap. A steel loop screws into the trips
hole and a swiveling steel hook connects to it. The hook attaches to a strap by
means of a sliding loop. The strap hangs off the opposite shoulder with the
camera at your side. You simply lift it to shoot. Works great. Will never go
back to neck straps.

Re: Camera Strap

2013-11-14 Thread Peter Loveday
I love my Luma Loop straps. Unfortunately they don't make them any more
(some patent dispute with black rapid I think).

I actually use my loop attached to one of the strap rings rather than the
tripod screw/QR plate, I find it works better for me. The quick release on
the strap is very handy for those times I want to untether it from my
shoulder (I also have a camdapter hand strap/QR plate on there for such
occasions).

Luma have a new Cinch strap, but I've not tried it so can't really
comment. I seems to operate quite differently.

I always found the actual blackrapids somewhat bulkier, but others swear by
them.

Either way, 'd never go back to a neckstrap now.. just seems so clunky and
awkward.

Re: Camera Strap

2013-11-14 Thread Steve Cottrell
Thanks for all the great replies. Actually not for me, rather for Stef.

Bob W bequeathed him a Lumaloop strap some time ago, like this one:

http://photo.it-enquirer.com/files/2011/06/lumaloop.jpg

...but the quick release mech - although undoubtedly strong - causes
slight worry with the weight of an EOS-1DmIIn and 16-35/4 and sometimes
even a 420EX flash - that's some weight!

Situation resolved: the manfrotto QR plate (already part of his kit)
screwed into the tripod mount on the baseplate also has a D-rind
attached, so onto that clips a Lowepro Deluxe Shoulder Strap that I donated:

http://slrhut.co.uk/content/products-accessories/8547_1.jpg

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y117/40zDictator/Camera-6.jpg

Appreciate the input folks, thanks again.

Aside: while researching, I came across what surely ranks as the most
useless camera accessory of all time

http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0083/1012/files/dual-handle-with-

Re: Camera Strap

I have the Sun Sniper strap; has the steel cable woven down the middle
so they can't sneak up behind you, cut your strap run off with your
camera.

http://www.amazon.com/Sunbounce-Sun-Sniper-Strap-Black/dp/B0045J5AAC/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronicsie=UTF8qid=1384481620sr=1-2keywords=sunsniper

You might be able to find it for less.

I don't use the button that comes with it. The version I bought has a
locking snap hook so I can hook it to the D-ring on my QR plate
(Manfrotto RC2/200PL-14) use the same strap when I change between the
K10D K20D.

THANKS

That's a valid point, I wouldn't dare to do that with my camera.

Wasn't there a flap a while back where someone bought a NEW camera from

of the cameras he'd used (and abused) for making one of his videos?

FS: Original Pentax leather camera strap

2012-02-17 Thread kwaller
For those that have to have the original narrow (7/16in) leather strap that
came with the early Pentax cameras - I have one from an early Pentax I use
to own. Don't remember which but I'm guessing it was an ES - the rubber
portion has 'Honeywell Pentax cast into the pad.

In very good condition with both metal do-dads strap end retainers.

Make offer - you pay shipping.

Most popular one of these things around here is the Black Rapid ...
they have several models and options, see http://www.blackrapid.com/
for details.

I learned long ago: never skimp on a strap, no matter what kind you
prefer. Get the best you can find. Your expensive equipment is hanging
on it.

Sun-Sniper and Black Rapid R-Strap were pretty much equal for me. I
actually preferred the feel of the R-Strap slightly more, but the
Sun-Sniper has an embedded steel wire to prevent someone behind you from
cutting your strap to steal your camera.

Knowing I would be traveling where that might be a problem, it gave the
Sun-Sniper a slight edge.

Thanks for that feedback, Godders. Thanks too Ecke and John.

That Black Rapid looks like it would do the job and the Sun-Sniper is
obviously another option. I'll look around to see if I can find one in
a local camera shop. It would be nice to try one before buying.

I like a neck strap with the GXR ... it's small and light enough that
hanging onto my chest isn't obnoxious ... and the standard strap that
came with it works fine but is kinda rough and irritating on my neck.
I was about to go construct a nice leather strap when I discovered the
Ricoh has an optional leather accessory neck strap. Probably a lot
better quality than I can make myself, so what the heck? I ordered
 one.

strong, comfortable and durable, carrying k200d and mostly medium-sized
lenses like Pentax 16-45, sometimes longer, heavier zooms; it's just
starting to fray after about three years of regular use; i carry the
camera on my left hip at elbow height and sling the strap across my
chest and over the right shoulder; when walking the camera is pretty
stable whether on the front, side or back of my hip; on the back of my
hip, it is still pretty well protected in crowds by my elbow, and i can
keep it away from brush or rocks when scrambling

K-R and camera strap

Larry that one looks interesting.

I also came across the following and they look nice however the price on
them does not. I am not sure either how comfortable I am with having the
camera hang at my side as it just seems that I would be bumping it into
things or into others. With having the camera in front I have better control

http://www.blackrapid.com/

I have the similar strap offered by Sun Sniper.

http://www.sun-sniper.com/

The sun sniper has a steel wire embedded in the strap so someone can't
come up behind you in a crowd and cut the strap when the camera is down
by your side. That's the only advantage I saw for the Sun Sniper strap
over the Black Rapid.

One drawback I've found with that kind of strap is the camera controls
are subject to change position whenever the camera is hanging at your
hip. You have to verify the controls are in the configuration you want
them every time you raise the camera.

It is fairly comfortable.

I may end up getting the following and only because I discovered yesterday,
from just walking around outside the house with the camera, that the strap
that came with the camera is not comfortable around the back of the neck.

http://products.lowepro.com/product/Transporter,2065,41.htm

I came across it Sunday while walking around Best Buy and they have it for
$20

I would recommend also looking at the products of OP/TECH USA.

http://optechusa.com/straps.html

Their straps are comfortable and in my experience slightly less
expensive than the comparable Lowe Pro or Tamrac product.

I used to tape film cans to my neck straps, and was about to do something

Perhaps it will come with the strap. I always sell my used cameras

You could have a look at the Lowepro Street Field system, which uses belts
and/or waistoats to hold bags at various areas of your body.

The big disadvantage of it is its sub-military look, which might earn you a
tazering or worse from the rozzers in the wrong circumstances.

Hi Bob: I don't know about the F9 or F10JD, but I did recently purchase

and I bought the belt as well (and yes, it was a bit pricey). This one
looks like it's a lot smaller than F9/F10JD, but it might hang from bike
handlebars; you'd have to rig up a way to attach it though, which you could
probably do using both the traditional shoulder strap loops the very wide
belt loop on the back of the bag. I can get the K10D with the 50 1.4 and
battery grip (all attached as one unit) in the bag I can get either the DA
16-45mm or DA*50-135mm in the other lens compartment, but it's tight mind
you--but still doable. Cheers, Christine

2008-09-09 Thread ann sanfedele
Back in the day when I could lift more than one camera and anticipated
needing quick switches between focal length or type of film
I had them both around my neck with wide and soft
straps - one camera had the strap adjusted longer than the other so the
lined up nicely one above the other
but not touching the camera bag strap was on my shoulder and the
waistband of it around my waist for support.

It was easy to go from one to the other... sometimes the lower one was
tucked into the waistband of my bag.

Don't know if this helps or not... I couldn't use Bob W's solution as
one of my shoulders is too slanty and things
always fall off it.

When two are needed, I've always adjusted my straps to over / under
configurations, one above the other. If I wear my photo vest, I use
the 'D' rings to attach the upper camera with the short quick release
straps that came with the vest. And let the tele hang on the bottom,
so it won't be banging up the lower camera, and to impress the

On most (all?) of the pages of that site, look on the right (you might
need to scroll down) and you'll see a box titled Target Practice.
If you follow that link, the page has a sample image to test your

opportunity that happened to very few Canadian racers.

(Getting really OT here) I never raced against them but I was at a 24-hour
endurance race (nelson Ledges) at which my friends were pitted right next to
the team that Kathleen Coburn was racing on one year. I believe she had
Christian Sarron replica leathers; very cool.

I *loved* racing at Shannonville, BTW. What a great track for lightweight
bikes! (Turn 2 of the Nelson circuit was the first place I ever dragged a

Hi Rob,

Possibly its do with Honda GP Bikes. From memory Pentax used to sponsor both
the GP500 and 250 Honda bikes. There is actualy still a few NSR250 race rep.
road bikes running around here with Pentax decals.

At a guestimate it would have been some where between 1988 and 1993.

 Hi Rob:
Your page wouldn't open this morning, so I couldn't check if they are
the same, but I have a Pentax/Honda Racing Team strap on my surviving
ME, which I bought in 1979. I cannot remember whether the strap came
with it, or whether I bought it later, but that would be amongst the
earliest dates possible. I _thought_ it was produced when Honda were
in Formula 1, prior to their current involvement, but I may well be
 wrong.

 Does that help?

Hey, they had Shinichi Ito as their rider! Surprising he finished as low as

Jim, First off, I want to apologize to both you and Wendy.
I had no intention of seriously offending either of you. My
only excuse is that it was late I was tired and I have a
tendency to make connections that aren't apparent to anyone else,
(you can judge whether or not I'm simply hallucinating or not).
My only reason for this post was to comment on the tendency
I have seen on the Internet of people to claim expertise for all
things, whether they have a right to or not.

I do not claim this in this case however.

Let me recount the events as I see them,

I do not claim this in this case however.

Let me recount the events as I see them,

William made an observation/request for information.

Jim replied with a bit of obscure and possibly useful information.

Wendy elevated Jim to the level connoisseur of this esoteric knowledge.

I made what I thought was a humorous remark on this type of elevation.
Obviously I was wrong about it being funny. It was only meant to be a
little cutting and somewhat clever word play.

I responded to William's response while I was tired and only made it
worse.

I like to fancy myself something of a wit. Sometimes I'm only half right.

the inference that I was pissing off an anthill.

One of the joys of the internet, is that no matter how obscure the request
for information, someone, somewhere, has relevant experience and can
comment on it.
Kind Regards

Sorry didn't intend it that way. It seems that when I responded it was
actually to Wendy's response
quoted below. I don't mind being called to task for being well an
asshole and maybe I was one. However
I think that Jim Brooks has a better claim to be offended.

Allow me to say, Peter, I asked a simple question, and I got a
bunch of good answers, and yours, which seems to have come from
an asshole.
But thanks for the response.

If your friend had never heard that joke, a blank stare is his normal
expression. On the other hand, if he had heard it as many times as I have a
blank stare was your justly deserved response. teasing

 Thanks Jim.
Sorry, I just couldn't resist it.
I was beginning to wonder if I had some bizarre sense of humour only
 peculiar to myself.

Reminds me of the time a colleauge visiting from America asked if someone
could call him a cab. So I did, and was met by a blank stare.

Wendy, who would hate to think she offended anyone

  Hi;
The ME Super that I aquired a couple of days ago has a strap
clasp that I have never seen before. There is a hinged lock on
  the clasp.
I have never seen one of these things before, and have no idea
what the correct way to thread a strap through it is.
If anyone can provide a desctiption even a dumb Canuck can
understand, I would be most grateful.
I may need one of those Mpeg thingies to give a visual
  description.
  Thanks

I would draw you a diagram that even a dumb Canuck could understand, but I
can't draw.
Here are a couple of piccies instead.

I presume this is the clasp you're talking about.

Wendy (whose rubber shoulder pad thingy also became brittle, and broke.)
