repost: error allways on line 1

2001-07-26 Thread Justin French

Hi,

No matter where in my code i have a syntax / parse error, my local test
server (php 4.0.1, FreeBSD) it reports it as an error on line one,
whereas it actually be 281!!

When I upload the same script to the live server, it reports the error
on the correct line.

This is really eating into my development time... I know the simple
answer is write big-free code, but I can't understand what else could
be wrong.

I haven't done any tweaking of the php.ini file, and everything else
works fine, and has been for the last six months.

Really appreciate any advice / suggestions / places to look.

I was under the impression it couldn't be done because it would require your

Can you please show us these sites?

disable view source by disable right click, but they can still view source
what would return?

2001-07-26 Thread Adrian D'Costa

Hi,

I have a php script that will send certain information to a mailing
list. Upon arrival the customer will have seven records each with a
unique id. On clicking the link a mail will be sent back with the subject
having that unique id.

On arriving at my mail server I pipe the mail thru a php program using
lynx -dump http://localhost/filename.php /dev/null. My question is what
will be returned to the filename.php. I need the unique id from the
subject to do further processing?

Any ideas.

You can add it in the headers. In fact you can add any info as long as
they abide by the RFC822.

I took if from the function.mail.php

/* additional header pieces for errors, From cc's, bcc's, etc */

$headers .= From: Birthday Reminder \n;
$headers .= X-Sender: \n;
$headers .= X-Mailer: PHP\n; // mailer
$headers .= X-Priority: 1\n; // Urgent message!
$headers .= Return-Path: \n; // Return path for
errors
$headers .= cc:\n; // CC to
$headers .= bcc:, \n; // BCCs
to

/* and now mail it */
mail($recipient, $subject, $message, $headers);
Avoiding repost

2001-07-26 Thread Ashley M. Kirchner

I have a card system that will ask for the required information, and
one hits a 'Send' button to send the card. This will submit all the
information to a database and send the viewer to a 'Thank You' page.
The problem is, if they hit reload on that (Thank You) page, (and answer
'yes' to the 'Repost Data' question), a second card will get submitted -
with the same information as the first. Needless to say, someone can
sit at that screen, and hit 'reload' several times and send the same
card over and over again, flooding the recipient's mailbox.

How can I avoid this?

If you are using mysql, this snippet from the manual answers your
question:

NOTE: There can be only one AUTO_INCREMENT column per table, and it must
be indexed.

This is the php list, not the mysql list :-)

Again from the mysql manual (you should get a copy)

If you delete the row containing the maximum value for an AUTO_INCREMENT
column, the value will be reused with an ISAM, GEMINI or BDB table but
not with a MyISAM or InnoDB table. If you delete all rows in the table
with DELETE FROM table_name (without a WHERE) in AUTOCOMMIT mode, the
sequence starts over for all table types.

But in the script you can use only a last value of the variable. So
there is no reason to have more than one variable in query_string with
same name.

use name1, name2, this is better. I think.
libmcrypt 2.2.x vs 2.4.x

2001-07-26 Thread Marius Andreiana

Hi

I'd like to switch to 2.4.x from 2.2.x but I get warnings with old
code using mcrypt_ecb:
Warning: size of key is too large for this algorithm
Warning: attempt to use an empty IV, which is NOT recommend

There's too much legacy code to change and key can't be changed now,
any way to use 2.4.x ?

Thanks
Re: Query String Name ?

Use array.

test.php?name[]=joename[]=bob

You'll get array name has joe,bob.

Or parse query string by yourself.

is there any way to access two variables in a query string that have the same

test.php?name=joename=bob

Is there any way to extract both values of name without changing the way the

Put your thank you on another page. Then after processing your post data,

That should do it.

2001-07-26 Thread infoz

I've got an HP-UX 10.20 and I would like to install
Apache + Oracle + PHP.

You have my deepest sympathies. :)

I installed and maintained PHP3 PHP4 + Oracle + OpenSSL + Apache on a
system like that for 2 years before we were finally able to retire it and
move to a Solaris environment.

The hardest part is getting things successfully compiled and linked against
the various extra libraries (Oracle, GD, etc.) with the correct flags.

I'll look around to see if I still have the various makefiles config files
that I used, but I suspect they're away on a backup tape somewhere.

Searching the archives of this list and groups.google.com will be your best
source of help.

RE:
Apache + Oracle + PHP on HPUX

2001-07-26 Thread Andrew Hill

Hi,

You can use OpenLink ODBC drivers, and compile PHP/apache --with-iodbc as
per the HOWTO at www.iodbc.org. The HOWTO is Linux-based, but the major
different will be environment variables. During the install of OpenLink MT
drivers a shell script will be automatically created (openlink.sh,
openlink.csh) that will set the appropriate variables for you before you try
to compile php and apache. Also, this saves you from installing the Oracle
client.

Just place the iODBC archive in the same directory as the OpenLink MT
drivers, and run the install.sh that comes with the OpenLink drivers. This
should get your environment fairly well setup.

If you require assistance, free support is available at
http://www.openlinksw.com/support/suppindx.htm

Kaab,

If the visitor's computer doesn't support Arabic display then I think
you're left with preparing image files. So long as you've got Arabic fonts
installed on your computer, and a graphics program which can use them, you
can create gif images and use those to display to your pages.
HTTP_REFERRER Problem

Here is the code I am trying to use:

$tdate = date ('Y-m-d h:i:s', time());

$success_query = INSERT

$success_result = mysql_query($success_query);

echo $PHP_SELF; echo $HTTP_REFERRER;

Header (Location: '$HTTP_REFERRER');

This code is inside login2.php, which has a form and a flag. The form has
an action to: $PHP_SELF which works fine. But, for some reason
$HTTP_REFERRER is always blank! I want to use that to reload that page so
the cookie takes effect. What is going on?
problem while reading on sockets ...

2001-07-26 Thread Arnauld Dravet - smurfie

Hello,

simple question:

$sock = fsockopen($server_ip, $server_port, $errno, $errstr, 30);
while(!feof($sock)) echo fgets($sock,4096);
fclose($sock);

why does the while() makes an infinite loop, like if FEOF was never found ?
what is the character used to tell if there's an EOF or not ?
could my problem come from the server i'm connecting to which to not send a legit
string ?

thanks
PHP Constructors

2001-07-26 Thread Matthew Schubert

I was reading through the PHP manual and got to the section on constructors.

snip

class A {
 function A() {
echo I am the constructor of A.br\n;
 }

 function B() {
echo I am a regular function named B in class A.br\n;
echo I am not a constructor in A.br\n;
 }
}

class B extends A {
 function C() {
echo I am a regular function.br\n;
 }
}

// This will call B() as a constructor.
$b = new B;

In PHP 3, the function B() in class A will suddenly become a constructor in
class B, although it was never intended to be. The rule in PHP 3 is: 'A
constructor is a function of the same name as the class.'. PHP 3 does not
care if the function is being defined in class B, or if it has been
inherited.

This is fixed in PHP 4 by modifying the rule to: 'A constructor is a
function of the same name as the class it is being defined in.'. Thus in PHP
4, the class B would have no constructor function of its own and the
constructor of the base class would have been called, printing 'I am the
constructor of A.br'.
/snip

It says that when a new class B was made, that the class B would have no
constructor, because the function B() was in the base class. Instead the
class B was supposed to derive it's constructor from class A and output 'I
am the constructor of A.br'

When I tried this script, this did not happen and the Function B() was
called as the constructor of class B, even though the function was in the
base class...can anyone help to clear up this matter?
thanx
File Upload Size Limits

I am running PHP 4.0pl1 with Apache 1.3.14 on RedHat Linux 7.1. I am trying
to do a file upload from the users PC to my web server. If I do a small
file, the transfer goes fine. If I do a large file ( 50 MB), the transfer
fails saying either the file was not available for reading or my script just
bombs out. I need to be able to have people upload large files. I have
changed the setting in php.ini to upload_max_filesize = 100M.

Do I also need to change the following entries in php.ini?
max_execution_time = 60
memory_limit = 8M

Is this an apache limit? I'm not sure what to do with this as I really need
to be able to transfer large files.

How about you get one of these HTML encypting type JScripts... it converts

Re:
hosting

2001-07-26 Thread Jason Bell

I personally use www.phpwebhosting.com and they are OK. I don't think I
would put anything mission critical on their servers. Why do I say this? I
usually spend all day long with an SSH session open, running VI to edit my
site... several times throughout the day, my session will freeze... if I try
and view my webpage during this moment, I can't get to it, so I have to
assume that their machines freeze for 20-30 seconds several times a day. My
SSH session usually terminates during this time as well.. it's very
frustrating, but for my personal site, at $9.95 a month for unlimited
bandwidth/space/pop accounts, I will put up with it, until I can find a
better host with comparable features, and comparable price.

I am aware this is a bit off topic but i need advice. i have a client that
wants to set up hosting. we need to get him a control panel for
administrative use. We have search open source stuff and there is one PHP
that is alpha. We have no problem paying for it if we could find one. PHP
would be nice so we could easily integrate it in the rest of the site. Any
one able to point me in the right direction?

Thank You,

What it ultimately comes down to is that you can play any number of games to
try and obfuscate or hide
your HTML and JavaScript code, but if the clients browser can read it then
so can the user. Now, most of these games will prevent your average Joe
surfer from reading your source... but your average Joe surfer doesn't care
about reading your source anyway =P

Besides... do you REALLY have anything so mind bogglingly original in your
code that you have to
go to all these extremes to protect it?

How about you get one of these HTML encypting type JScripts... it converts
the page into /0D type codes, and then decodes it with a built in JScript
function... If you view source they will only see lots of /0D looking
things, but the page will display like normal (but maybe a bit slower)
AOL messing up long links

2001-07-26 Thread david jarvis

This isn't so much PHP, but I bet it happens to lots of people. I have a PHP script
which sends out an email to confirm that an email address is valid. In most cases
this works fine, however, for AOL people, AOL adds a carriage return in the link, so
that the variables passed in the link become broken. So, I guess what I'm saying
is... does anyone now how to make a AOL friendly link?

If the PDF file is publicly accessible via a web server, you should be
able to simply do:

header(Location: http://www.server.com/file.pdf;);

RE:
PHP/Cold Fusion questions:

2001-07-26 Thread Jeff Pearson

About a year ago I did this with a Cold Fusion page and an ASP page. The ASP
page was a navigation menu that I included in a Cold Fusion page that pulled
for product information. I was in the middle of migrating everything from
Cold Fusion to ASP. I simply included the one file in the other. The
included file is processed before it is forwarded to the page that calls it
out.

AFAIK, there are no web servers out there that will allow you to pass a
single file through two separate parsing engines (i.e. PHP and CF)
Apache won't and I don't believe IIS will do it either.

So, from a web server standpoint, the server will either send a web page
through the PHP parsing engine or the Cold Fusion parsing engine, but
not both.

So, I think the answer is the CF developers will have to completely redo
the site in CF. Now, I do remember seeing some sort of CF--PHP
converter project over at SoureForge. (www.sf.net) However, I have no
direct experience with the project, nor do I know how mature it is.

 Hello... Let me say thank you in advance to those who respond...

 How well does PHP and Cold Fusion code play together? Can PHP
 code in CF pages be parsed by PHP server or vise versa- Can
 CF code in PHP pages be parsed by the CF server? Or will this
 cause major headaches?

 The reason I ask is because I will be building a concept site
 for my client in PHP using a MySQL database. As the concept
 moves on to production however, I am fairly certain that the
 developers will use Cold Fusion to implement further dynamic
 features and site architecture. Also, they will probably
 want to use Access in conjunction with the CF code. If it
 were completely up to me, I'd have the whole site done in
 PHP, but unfortunately, I am not the final decision maker here.

 So to recap... Will the CF developers be able to use any of
 my code or will they have to redo the site completely in cold fusion??

 Thanks again for your inputSD
fopen - warnings

2001-07-26 Thread Vanessa

Hello List,

this is probably a very stupid question, but I dont know how to solve this
little problem:
I have a script with which text files (exported access db data sheets) can
be uploaded to the mysql tables.
It all works fine, but very annoyingly I get warning messages, if the text
file is not resident on the server. But I want it in a way that it doesnt have
to be on the server...a catch. The php manual says that if the file
cannot be opened fopen returns false. All nice and good working, but I get
those additional warning messages. Im not sure if it has maybe something
to do with the server, but I am not convinced. Ill put the code below.
Any suggestions are highly appreciated (I tried die command but it somehow
messed up the routine).

[schnipp]

$file = array (colours.txt, categories.txt, stockmain.txt,
stockcolours.txt);
$i = 0;
while ($file[$i])
{
//öffne das textfile
$datei = ;

if ($datei = fopen($file[$i], r+))
{
$zaehler = 0;
//check wieviele zeilen das textfile hat
//um zu verhindern, dass es leer ist!
while (!feof ($datei)) //liest jede zeile einzeln mit fget()
{
$buffer = fgets($datei, 1000);
//echo $buffer;
//echo br;
$zaehler++;
} //end while (!feof ($datei))

// MORE CODE AFTER THIS
// .

}
else
{
?
tr
tdThe file ? echo $file[$i]; ? could not be
opened: no Mysql insert./td
/tr

}
$i++;
if ($datei)
{ fclose($datei); }
}

[/schnipp]

Warning messages are:

Warning: fopen(categories.txt,r+) - No such file or directory in *some

Assuming that your code works fine apart from the warning message you can
use @ so suppress any warning messages
e.g. @fopen(

Subject:
fopen - warnings

Hello List,

this is probably a very stupid question, but I dont know how to solve this
little problem:
I have a script with which text files (exported access db data sheets) can
be uploaded to the mysql tables.
It all works fine, but very annoyingly I get warning messages, if the text
file is not resident on the server. But I want it in a way that it doesnt
have
to be on the server...a catch.

[schnipp]

$file = array (colours.txt, categories.txt, stockmain.txt,
stockcolours.txt);
$i = 0;
while ($file[$i])
{
//öffne das textfile
$datei = ;

if ($datei = fopen($file[$i], r+))
{
$zaehler = 0;
//check wieviele zeilen das textfile hat
//um zu verhindern, dass es leer ist!
while (!feof ($datei)) //liest jede zeile einzeln mit
fget()
{
$buffer = fgets($datei, 1000);
//echo $buffer;
//echo br;
$zaehler++;
} //end while (!feof ($datei))

// MORE CODE AFTER THIS
// .

}
else
{
?
tr
tdThe file ? echo $file[$i]; ? could not be
opened: no Mysql insert./td
/tr
?
}
$i++;
if ($datei)
{ fclose($datei); }
}

[/schnipp]

Warning messages are:

Warning: fopen(categories.txt,r+) - No such file or directory in *some
directory* on line 32

I hope anybody can help...
Example high-profile PHP sites

2001-07-26 Thread Maurice Rickard

For a number of reasons, I need to offer a client a list of big,
impressive-sounding, high-profile sites using PHP. I went looking
for the list on PHP.net, and the closest I could find is
http://pt2.php.net/sites.php which, as you'll see, is suffering from
a fatal error.

I did find a list at http://php.datalogica.com/sites.php which, while
helpful, seems a bit dated. Does anyone have some favorite examples
that aren't on this list?

I've been preparing other arguments as well, but the all the cool
multiple commands in same sys call

2001-07-26 Thread Dennis Gearon

Is it possible to do multiple commands in a 'system' or 'exec' call, like if I
were force feeding that function a shell script?

I.E.

ssh-agent pass phrases blah blah
scp filenames, hosts, etc, blah, blah

all in one shell so that the ssh-agent gets called by scp?

as a funny aside, I guess my spell checker thinks like I do
it didn't under stand 'ssh-agent', so it suggested 'shaggiest' and 'shagging'
Open window2 (javascript), enter info in a form, then close window2 and refresh window1. help.

2001-07-26 Thread Matthew DeChant

I've gotten this far:

URL to open an advanced search window(window2) from window1:

a href=\javascript:newWindow =
window.open('db_viewMD.php?dsn=$dsndb=$dblm=$lmadvsrch=true','advsrch','h
eight=$vsize,width=310,scrollbars=$bln,resizeable=yes');
newWindow.focus()\)Advanced Search/a

Enter text in a form (snippet from form, close window if cancel is clicked,
redirect window1 to new url, close window):

print form name=advsrch method=post action=db_viewMD.php;
print td class=sansboldfield1/td\n;
print td class=sansboldinput type=text name=field1/td/tr\n;
print input type=submit value=Submit
onclick=window.opener.location='db_viewMD.php?';self.close()\n;
print input type=button value=Cancel onclick=self.close()\n;

Now the problem is that redirecting window1 isn't really helpful because the
form variables don't get loaded to window1 unless they are part of the URL
(ie. dbview_md.php?field1=textentered1field2=textentered2) but they can't
be part of the URL because you don't know the text entered in the form until
it submits the form.)

Is there a way to just refresh window1 after changing the PHP variable
(HTTP_SERVER_VARS[argv]??) that holds the arguments for window1?

Re:
Session - to restrict same user from two logins

2001-07-26 Thread deco

 an easier way of doing this is to have a database of users with their
password in the table and when they log on simply mark them logged using
sum boolean variable. this will, cut down time.
good luck!.
and remeber Have a nice day :)

And when would you uncheck the boolean value? In theory, when the
session expires, but there's no event being triggered. Only solution would
be to check for active sessions periodically, or something like this...
Ideal solution would be for php to do it by itself when the session
expires..
