I have problem playing items from the search result. I always play the
first item in the list, independent of which item I select.
Will this also be corrected by the above fix?

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Podcast: Favorite to latest Epsiode

2022-01-12 Thread jasell

Hi,

I would like to make a "favorite" link to a podcast that will always
play the latest episode.

The purpose would be to link that "favorite" to a my preset buttons
(BOOM), that way I have the latest episode of my podcasts available by
one press of a button.

Would it be possible to extend the current Podcast 2.0 app to enable
this?

As I wrote my ultimate request would be to make a "favorite" to a
Podcast that will always play the latest episode.
That way I could link my preset buttons to a such a podcast to always
give me the latest episode by one press.

But I start to realize that having "play latest" as an option under
"more" wouldn't give me the possibility to make it a favorite.

PS. by first in the list I meant the latest episode, as podcast
typically is sorted 3, 2, 1...

Hi,
I wonder if would be possible on Podcast "groups" have a function to
play "first".

Instead of opening the podcast folder this would play the first podcast
episode in the list.

In best of worlds I would like to create a favorit-link to such "last

2021-07-22 Thread jasell

Hi, I tried this for several years and had... I had it working for a
week some years ago (as I remembered it working in one of the earlier
builds for QLMS, it might also be tied to when I changed my FW/Router
setup about the same time).

I'm running LMS and spotty from a QNAP nas. I'm using QLMS solution that
works great for this, except I can't figure out how to setup local
sharing of players for Spotty.
I understand that avahi or Bonjour is involved some in announcing the
player on the network.

I just lately found a Service Discovery feature in my QNAP, which
actually had the Banjour settings (probably why I haven't found it, as I
was looking for banjour and not Service discovery).
Any way, there are a few settings that comes with it, I can first of
enable/disable Bonjour (it is, and have been enabled), I also have some
other service like SAMBA, NAS , SSH etc that are enabled as well.
As I don't have any mac stuff I have disabled AFP and some other service
I don't use FTP and HTTPS.

Is there something else I should look into?

Do I need to enable some other services in my router/switch for this?
I have a simple setup with discrete units for FW/router, Switch, AP and
no special things setup (no enabling or disabling of services)

Hi,
Logging is set to Debug.

Log says failing to access and suggest to reset credentials. Only a
general text message, no detailed information.

I have multiple accounts, 4, I deleted the one I use and added it
successfully again. Paid service.

I have a client ID registered. It shows correct on Spotify’s app page. I
created another app and copied that client ID as well, no difference.

I restarted LMS.

None of my attempts changed error message.

I’m currently off-site, so I cannot give you the exact copy of the log.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Material Skin

Hi,
When using the SoundCloud app with Material I get an odd error.

When searching for a song and I get several hits, no matter which of the
search results in the list I start playing LMS always play the first
one.

In LMS default GUI this plays the song you selected to play.

It would be nice if also the band name could be listed next to the song
name, now there is only the thumbnail to differentiate the results. But
I guess this is a shortcoming of the SoundCloud app.

Thanks in advance
Jakob

You are correct again, I had some odd albums in my search result that
did only have 1 song. I thought that was the Album showing as the song
and album had the same name.

But doing this for some more regular searches I do get the album songs
and the extra option Artist(s) at the end, which link me to more options
for each Artist.
And finally I have the year which doesn't do anything.

You are right, didn't tried that, too obvious...
I would say for Artist this is what I expected from the More-options.
Perhaps More could also be omitted here as well, or selecting the main
element should be omitted and only allow for the More-options .
But again that is probably a bit weird, so there might already be a
fallback logic for that, if no main action then do more-options...

When in Search results/Albums, selecting an Album element I would expect
to see the songs of the Album.
Now I get what I would say are the More-options
So for Albums there should be a More-option providing what it does
today.
But the selection on the Album element should give another result, the
songs of the album.

All according to my opinion and expectations of course...

Here I entered Artist from Search results. I had 2 hits.
Selecting More from one of them resulted in this menu with “relevant”
options.

When navigating into Artists or Album in the search result.
Then each option, Artist or Album, has a relevant More-option.

I'm sorry if I misunderstood the reply I got in the Material thread, I'm
not trying blame or pointing fingers here. I should have limited my
experience to the Spotty search result.

After testing this a bit extensively in Spotty search result, I now see
that in some Search results, Spotty actually offer relevant
More-options.

Where I miss relevant More-options are in these use cases:

- Songs (on the first level of search results)
This gives me an empty More-options
->This More-option should be improved, it should results in the same
rich More-options menu you get from the playlist view.

- Playlists found in the sub-structure of Playlists
This gives me the Songs of the Playlist and no More-options
Repeating this on Songs gives an empty More-options
->This More-option can be omitted as it results is the same as selecting
the main entry

- Podcasts found in the sub-structure of Podcasts
This gives me the Episodes of the Podcasts and not More-options
Repeating this on Episodes gives an empty More-options
->This More-option can be omitted as it results is the same as selecting
the main entry

- Episodes found in the sub-structure of Podcast Episodes
This gives me an empty More-options
->This More-option should be improved, it should results in the same
rich More-options menu you get from the playlist view.

- Users found in the sub-structure of Users lacks More-options entry
->This More-option can be omitted as I can not se any relevant
More-options here

There are already relevant More-options menu for these...
- Artist found in the sub-structure of Artists
- Albums found in the sub-structure of Albums

Is there any way I can track what is going on here to give you some
indication what may cause this?
As described I have this independent of Spotify or Local music.
Refreshing the playlist happens without the playlist being modified, it
can happen anytime during the song, so not related to switching track or
so.

I've asked for a Feature request to in Spotty forum to make the
More-option available also in the Spotty Search result...
This would be the best solution from usability point of view.

Otherwise it would be good practice to not show More-option, or show it
disabled, if there are no More-options.

2020-12-20 Thread jasell

Hi,
I'm a user of both Spotty and Material skin.

Material skin offer a More-option on most elements, independent if there
is any content to show or not.

I found myself numerous time trying to access the More-options from the
Spotty Search result view, but I get an empty list of More options.
In the default skin there is not More-options available, so for
none-material users this would not be a problem.

If I however start playing a song from Spotty Search result view and
then from the Playlist view select the More-option I get the More-option
with all kinds of action like Title or Artist radio that I use a lot.

I'm asking for Spotty to enable/present the More-options that are
available in Playlist view also in the Spotty Search result view.
It would benefit the user experience, but is not critical by any means.

Thanks for all the good works!

My server (7.9.2) runs on a QNAP system, so linux version.

My client is a Chrome browser (app mode) on a windows PC.

It's not that the browser refresh, it's rather the playlist that
refresh.
Every now and then, roughly 10 secs but sometimes longer.
This happens when I play a single song or playing a long playlist from
Spotify.

I'm trying with local music as well, have the same things but less
frequent/more random intervals.

cpd73 wrote:

See attached picture for how the more option from the playlist gives me
a bunch of more options.

In the search result (Spotify search if that matters) the same song has
a More option.
When selecting that I get a More menu, but no options.

In LMS default skin, there is no More option from the Spotify search
screen.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Material Skin

2020-12-17 Thread jasell

Hi, I have 2 odd observation.
One is new the other I don’t know.

1. When having Material showing in a Chrom app window (on my PC) I
notice it flashes or make reload every know and then. With 10 seconds
intervalls. A bit annoying but not a serious problem.

2. When using Spotify (I know you don’t use it) and I have found some
tracks. I quite often want to use the “radio” function.
I reach that from the More-option.
But when selecting more from the search result (left side) I get an
empty list. When selecting More on the same track from the playlist
(right side) I get a long list of options, including the Radio-option.

It would be nice to access the More options without adding the track to
the playlist.

looked like playlists to me.

Btw, as I’m using Tapatalk I see no signatures... so don’t rely on that

Hi, first of all, a big Thank you for this wonderfull initiative, I have
been a user since your first beta.

I’m also a heavy user of Spotty, Spotify deliver your personalized items
under the Home entry, like ”More like...” . I would describe these as
playlist of some sort. Anyway, these items do not get a play or ”...”
menu.

If I enter them I get the play or + button on the top row, so I can play
them from there.

Just wanted to let you know...

Great, I applied the latest update and it is changed.

The real username is showing under advanced settings at the server
though.

I would prefer to see username here as well but

I can understand if you wish to have a more solid reference to the
account here. If this is the case, could you use username or e-mail
depending how the account was added? Now you get username even if you
added by e-mail.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 4.4 - more personalised content

2020-10-31 Thread jasell

Hi,
Spotify seems to have changed the way new users accounts are created.
Now you are asked for a profile name. You are then provided a random
username. Your e-mail is also valid for login, so the actual username
seems to have a less important role, more like an id in the background.

When adding an account to spotty using the e-mail, the account is then
listed with the username, the ugly random one “i74irpnqp8idv32qhn3h”
:-((.

Can spotty instead list the accounts by Profile name, rather than
username or e-mail? This would make switching between accounts look so
much nicer :-))

I appreciate all the good work!!

If you on iOS place a shortcut on your homescreen it will open in full
screen mode without address bar.
(In Safari you use the send-to option and scroll down to Homescreen)

It will not give access on the lock screen nor let you use hardware

I don’t have a radio but from a Touch (or classic) you can from the
special or is System menu select to control another player. If you chose
to control your virtual Group player then the button on your your radio
will control that player and not the radio, the display will show
information in the screen related to the selected player.
Note that the radio can be part of that group, so it does indirectly
control itself.

You see them typically for Spotty upgrades (in LMS original ui). That
description is different from when you have installed the version.

As in materials information pages you don’t have description for the
upgrades, but the installed versions has a description.

Thanks for modernizing the LMS frontend, very much appreciated!!

Can I ask for one feature?

Today there is a green arrow announcing updates. Navigating to the
Information page lists the plugins with updates available. Here I would
like to see the description, preferable after the plugin name, but in
the details modal would also do.

Many plugin provide a short changelog in the description which would be
nice to see before deciding to upgrade. You can see that from the main
plugin section in the original UI today.

Problem still remains.
I have the problem playing on my SB3.
I'm on latest 7.9.2 nightly and latest spotty 2.8.1.

I'm now logging Spotty using info level.
Log too large to upload here... the log doesn't say me anything but I
can provide it for better analysis.

I'm using Spotify connect from an iPhone.
I tried all different decoding options for spotty, OGG/Flac/mp3/pcm,
same behaviour.

After a few songs the player stops and reboots, on start up it has
loaded the song at time 0:00 ready to start playing.
The next attempt can play the song, so it is not that the song is bad.

I now also tried the same playlist from iPeng, using spotty plugin to
select and play.
I still ge the stop and reboot, this time I got a loud static noise just
before reboot.

There could have a logic to place the last used option on top. This
would after a while show your top-five options. More code of course, and
would reset on any new device you use, but simplistic.

There is the feature of pinning items.
Under my Apps I can pin Spotify to appear as my first option.
If this was available on music entries your use case would probably be
solved, I suggested that earlier, but have no clue what it would take.

This work to, there are now sidebars in landscape mode. These are black
and blends in with my black phone.
This way all details are visible.

This is the safe way, not as elegant as if you can fine tune the content
around the tab/notch, but I realize the challenge I doing this in blind.

Feel no pressure.

I realize that you don’t have such a device, that’s why I provided the
screenshots.

We all appreciate the work you are doing.

My way of helping out is by testing and provide feedback. But you are in

Cache cleared!

No padding is visible.
I marked the zones hidden by the tab in the three views.
I tried to be exact so you can maximize the real estate...

This fixed the full screen in portrait mode.
While navigating from a home screen shortcut you enter a beautiful full
screen experience, like an app.

Navigating within safari will have the same old behavior for portrait
mode show nav bar, but that is kind of expected.

For landscape mode, it is possible to add a padding to the numbers on
the left and right side above the duration bar?
The 2 first/last digits and the colon is hidden by the iPhone X tab.
For played time: can the minutes digits be placed where seconds digits
are.
For song time: can the seconds digits be placed where the minutes digits
are.

It seems like the lower navigation bar disappears when you scroll down.
As the material page fits perfectly in the browser there is no scrolling
down. There is not a lot of scrolling needed to activate this behavior.

Great work.
On the iPhone X you now managed to fill the full width in landscape, but
02 to the left pr 15 to the right is hidden by the famous tab depending
which way you flip it. Probably why they call it the safe area.
The “full screen” mode comes direct,y as you tilt the phone. No
scrolling is needed.

In portrait view the navigation bar at the bottom is present all the
time. By trying to scroll down, up, down you can trick the navigation
bar to disappear for a second, this is how I would wish to have it all
the time.

I got it to work now.
I think I forgot to set file permissions/ownerships before.

In iPhone X landscape mode there is still white columns right and left,
I guess these are the safe areas.
The original LMS GUI sets these bars to a dark grey color.
If you can set them to black would be nice/elegant.

I'm not entirely sure how to install from Github.
-I download the github archive
-Extracted the the MaterialSkin folder
-Stopped LMS
-Deleted ...\Cache\InstalledPlugins\Plugins\MaterialSkin
-Copied the extracted MaterialSkin to
...\Cache\InstalledPlugins\Plugins\
-Started LMS

LMS started without errors...
-On my Laptop I then cleared site data, my pinned Spotify was removed as
a proof.
But for Laptop browsing the Album art is now way to large and hides the
menus
BTW, I can't force the browser to the Mobile skin, it reverts to desktop
when I try

-On the iPhone X there is no difference in the Portrait or Landscape
views.
On iPhone I don't now how to clear cache-data, but I started a private
tab which didn't remember the pinned Spotify

This is how it looks in Chrome...

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Material Skin

I like this skin, it has potential!

I have a few comments...

-The option to pin APPs is great, I would like to see this for all
options.
-Using the star-icon for pinning an app is somewhat misleading.
A Star is associated with favorites, a pin-icon would be more intuitive
since there are already favorites in LMS.
-I'm an iPhone user and layouts are not perfect for this device
Landscape view show a very tinny album picture and relatively huge
buttons
If the picture and song info where side by side it would look better
26367
Portrait view always show rather large top and bottom navigation
areas.
The lower navigation area typically hide and the upper get minimized or
out of view if you can scroll down, this works in landscape mode
26369
-On my iPad the layouts works much better due to the larger screen.

Great work!

I just want to chip in that I sometimes experience the same kind of

So Spotify themself have problem with this.

There are better way to install LMS on Qnaps than using SSOTS. There is
a fairly new QLMS app from QnapClub. It is a one touch install and
provides everything you need for Spotty to work.
You need to fully remove all SSOTS stuff first...

I had a similar experience, my Weather data was not updating and was
very different from the actual weather.

In my investigation I went to wunderground.com and found that many of
the stations in my area were no longer available (including the one I
was pulling data from). I assume there was some sort of cleaning or
policies change for which weather stations to publish.

So I would check that the weather station you are pulling data from is
actually live.

Now its much better, I how ever had a few stopping incidents.
An something that could be an early audio-jump or just but recording.

MIS shows everything as expected, except for one track were the track
name didn't update, but playtime was ok.

But when check the log there were an enormous amount of volume changes,
I just changed volume twice...

See attached log...

Sorry, MY FAULT!
MIS was not loaded! I was running on a "vanila" installation with only
the Spotty plugin loaded.
I was confused since I got some song info from the default screens,
which did not update correct (another story).

I have re-installed this box many times when supporting the development
of an "official" LMS packet for Qnap, QLMS.
QLMS now installs with a single click, all tweaks with SSL etc are
taking care of, really nice!
https://www.qnapclub.eu/sv/qpkg/545

Last "official" build, with SSOTS, was from the time of LMS 7.7.2 which
we tweaked for 7.9.1...

Now I got through all plugins... loaded and setup.

MIS shows up as beautifully as ever (just a few songs tested yet...).

I'm trying out the 2.3.0 release as well.
I'll see Spotty is more stable now...

Jump as in Audio change.
I'm rocking on, getting close to the end of the track and suddenly next
track starts.
Quite an abrupt audio experience, that's why asking...

Memory is not much on these boxes (especially with some years down the
road, what used to be much isn't anymore).
I have 1GB RAM on the one I'm using now, I monitor it relatively often
and I'm at a rather solid 58% usage (400MB free).
I have another qnap box with 2 GB, I have similar experience their but
don't use it so much for the moment.

See attached Server.log
During this session I have a few stops and repeats.
The track name on my SB3 is stuck, remaining time is not showing but
playtime is correct.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 2.0.0 - Spotify Connect for your Squeezebox

2018-04-01 Thread jasell

Hi Michael,

I have been using Spotty in Connect mode more frequent lately.
I must say I experience Spotty to be a bit moodier than before.

What I found moody:
-Jump to next track before really finishing the current track, this
might be Spotify or the recording but I don't think so.
-Stops playing, random stops in the middle of a track or while
switching. Starts again after pressing play in the Spotify app (iPhone
or windows app)
-After a few stops, like above, the playing track in the Music info
screen of my old SB3 show the same track name, even though there are new
tracks playing.
-After a few stops, like above, the song starts to repeat until I press
forward in the Spotify app.

I'm on your 2.2 release (current) on my Qnap running the linux-i386.

Let me know if there is something I can to to help your investigation.
I just put the logging into INFO mode, is that the best level to get
clues?

Many thanks for your efforts with this addicting plugin.

I think that's the way it has to be or else the group definition needs
to be dynamic and very complex.
I that case you would need to have commands like "reset" group to its
original collection of players.
Or when you start a using a group you could get a control question, for
each player that is doing something different if you want to bring them
back in the group.
This will complicate the user experience and the current GUI is not
capable of doing that.
But you would have full control...

Group player, in my opinion, is designed to make it simple. You already
have full control by arranging your synched player manually.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 2.0.0 - Spotify Connect for your Squeezebox

2018-01-25 Thread jasell

Just tried 2.2.1

When I uncheck the "Don't announce..." option

I get this in my server log

Code:

0024: note: Run with `RUST_BACKTRACE=1` for a backtrace.
0023: thread 'main' panicked at 'called `Result::unwrap()` on an `Err` value:

And I see no player on my spotify devices.

When I check the option I emmidiatly see the player appearing in my
Spotify Devices menu.

If I enable setting:
"Don't announce Squeezebox players running in Spotify Connect mode in
your network. Check this option if you don't want your Spotify Connect
enabled Squeezebox player to show up in all Spotify apps in your
network. "

I can now use Spotify Connect as before, without issues in the
server-log as well.
But I can't see a specific player from multiple Spotify accounts
simultaneously though...

I have been using Group Player for a while and prefer it a lot over
synchronizing players.

One thing though, the virtual player has far less settings and what I
miss in particular is the screen saver.
I have one group that combine a Receiver and SB3, on the SB3 I wish to
show Music Infromation Screensaver but I cannot get it to work with the
virtual player.

Any thoughts, ideas, tips?

Have you tried the groups plugin?
It deals with grouping of several player in to one virtual player that
control the relative volume for all connected players together (the
virtual group player can be controlled by Spotify connect if you like)
or adjust volume on one individual player relative the others in the
group using LMS GUI or iPeng.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 2.0.0 - Spotify Connect for your Squeezebox

2018-01-14 Thread jasell

I have problem using Connect with multiple user accounts, it plays the
wrong song...

If the player has be used with another Spotify account before and I
start a new playing session using Spotify Connect then the player is not
visible in my Spotify device list for the new Spotify account.
This is as before, I assume, and is managed by using the Spotty app in
LMS by playing a song with the new Spotify account. This make the player
show up in the Spotify Connect Devices.
-It would be easier if all players show up for all users and any one who
starts a Spotify connect session highjacks the player.

The main problem is:
when playing a song to the player, it starts to play a timely manner,
but the wrong song! The songs that is played is the last one from the
previous session, which is then repeated.

I tried several "tricks" to get rid of the "previously played song" like
restarting LMS, switching Spotty Connect option on/off etc.
I found that when playing on the desired player using Spotty in LMS on
the new Spotify account, then high-jacking the player with the Spotify
App by starting session using Spotify connect, with the same Spotify
account, managed to switch the player to the new account and play the
correct song.

Great work!
I loved to see the how you continue to refine this awesome feature of

A minor detail, on my SB3 I use MIS to show details about the now

I wish to show PLAYTIME / SONGTIME but SONGTIME is always 0:00 when
playing from spotify (Spotify app+connect or Spotty in LMS)

I see a similar, perhaps the same, issue.

When I start a playing session, using Spotify Connect, nothing happens
on the squeezebox, at first.
If I wait 10-15 secs the player in question turns on and starts playing.
At this point the sounds is a bit “jumpy”, start:stop a few times.

After that first song everything appears rock solid. Until I stop, when
I sometimes need to do a few play:pause cycles to have Spotty stop
playing.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty v1.9.0 - now with experimental Spotify Connect support!

2017-12-20 Thread jasell

I have been running 1.99.3 now for more than a week.
We mainly use Connect using iOS Spotify app to control music.

Here is a summary of issues I have seen.
I mention these if you wish to improve...

Switching between family acounts works great by using spotty from iPeng,
this works rock solid. A bit cumbersome but I have no better idea.

When starting playing a Connect session the first tune is a bit jumpy.
Music starts for a few seconds, stops for 5-10 seconds, starts again.
This happens a couple of times to eventually become steady. Following
songs plays normal.

I quite often have miss the last few seconds of my songs.

Sometimes when I stop playing from Spotify app, music stop. But then
starts again, Spotify app are in paused state but music plays. Cycling
through one or more start/stop cycle eventually stops the music.

In Spotty temp folder there are quite many field after more than 1 week
of usage. I had 78 files of 350MB in total. On server restart these
files are cleared, not on LMS restart.

You're the man Michael!

The upgrade was a easy as it can be.

Just for your information, in previous version I had a build up of those
.tmp? files in my temp-folder. The files were from several days to
just recently, only 2 files with the exact same size, I had roughly 30
of them in total. These gave me no problem since the new temp-location.
These files was not cleared automatically nor on LMS-restart. But on a
server restart or when installing the upgrade these files were cleared.

On the new version I still see some occasional files being left behind,
my impression is that these are fewer now.
I play mainly using Spotify Connect.

I noticed that I can still not run Spotty with logging set to higher
than "Error", would just be fun to see what is happening, but no real
need since it works...

I also notice that my system run Spotty (32-bit version) by default,
even though my Qnap system sports a 64-bit Intel proc. , I'm not sure if
I would gain anything from the 64-bit version.

2017-12-03 Thread jasell

I have a scenario with synched player groups and family accounts, maybe
a bit to special but I mention it anyway if you find a way manage it.

Default only the "main" player in the group is listed under Spotify
Connect, as expected.
If this player is used as a Spotify Connect device by one account, then
the synched players (slave players, that is now playing what the main
player is playing) are listed as Spotify Connect devices for other
accounts.

The can lead to some confusion...

I have been playing for a while now, since yesterday.

I have a build up of 43 tmp-files now, a total of 279 MB.
-Good thing is that Spotty, and my system, doesn't stop anymore thanks
to the new temp-folder location.

I have files that are 26 hours old, it seems like the 24 hours cleaning
doesn't work.
Anyway, I think there is need to clean out tmp-files within a shorter
interval, like 1 hour.

Could it be access rights that prevent cleaning out files?
-All my tmp-files has permission 0600, owned by admin which is also the
owner of LMS-process.
On the other hand some files appear for while to be cleaned out correct,
these has the same permissions...

versions doesn't have.

The 1.9.8 installation showed the selected Spotty executable to be
..\Spotty\Bin\i386-linux\Spotty

I guess this is the 32-bit version. My Qnap is a 64-bit system and can
run both 32-bit and 64-bit.

When using Spotify Connect and using the 32-bit version resulted for me
that every track that was selected by me played only for 5 secs and then
spotty skipped by itself to the next track and played that, and any
following tracks, for the full length. As soon as I skipped or selected
a song from a the playlist this new song only played for 5 secs.

I went to the ..\Bin\i386-linux folder and copied PV-x86_64 and
Spotty-x86_64 to corresponding pv-custom and Spotty-custom.
After a LMS restart the Settings/Advanced/Spotty showed that
Spotty-custom was used.

Now playing with Spotify Connect there is no more skipping after 5 secs,
I can select specific tracks or skip back and forth without problem.

Just another little detail...
In Settings/Advanced/Spotty there is an entry showing what spotty
executable that is used and the version.
For me it shows version 0.7.0 even though we are at 1.9.8. It showed
0.7.0 for as long as I can remember...

I just want to monitor the tmp-folder every now and then to make sure

I installed the new 1.9.8 release. everything worked as expected during
the update.

Playing with Spotify Connected worked without any issues.

But I can confirm the same behavior in transcoding, the 3 Spotty option
are all disabled.

Wow, I got more time to spend...

Today when I should pickup playing from Spotify-app using "Connect" I
couldn't find my office-squeezebox.
I checked in the Player Settings and to my surprise the Spotify Connect
was unchecked. So I checked it.
Player appeared immediately in Spotify-app.
I started to play a new song from the SPotify-app (windows), song starts
to play within a second!
I change to another songs, it takes effect with less than a second,
amazing!
I skip songs in playlists an I get a rock-solid user experience!, this
was what I had in 1.9.6, but now I run 1.9.7

I have no issues with start/stop or that spotty skip tracks by itself.

When I monitor my /tmp folder I see 2 files .tmp files for every new
song that is about to be played. These disappears as the song starts to
play.
Nothing seems to be left behind any more...

The only changes from yesterday is that I had to reconnect my player in
Player settings, can this been the "evil" to my issues report in my
previous post?
-i.e. on SPotty upgrade all players should be disconnected, LMS restart,
Reconnect players to Spotify.

Many thanks for your efforts Micheal, pllease let me know if there is
something I can do to help test...

2017-11-18 Thread jasell

weekend is here, playtime again... ;-)

@mherger Just to set the context for my trial: my mission is to use
Spotify Connect with my squeezeboxes

I did some more experimenting to see how /tmp is affected, when the /tmp
folder fills up on my Qnap-NAS spotty stop playing until its cleared
I can't figure out why there is a limit to /tmp since I have a large
file system, on the other hand I know just the bare minimum of linux, or
less.

I play on my Squeezebox Classic or Squeezebox Receiver.

"Spotty-app"
--
When I use the Spotty in LMS, either from the web-GUI or iPeng app
Spotty behaves as a beauty!
When skipping or before the end of a song (or actually before next songs
is starting) a new (1 and only 1) .tmp file appear in /tmp, the file
is there for a few seconds and disappears.
This file seems to me to be the raw-file from Spotify since it's not
affect in size depending on what transcoding I use.

"Connect"
---
When I use the Spotify app for Windows, iPhone or iPad and play
songs/playlists/"radio station" and direct the stream to my Devices
being my Receiver or Classic I experience problem as reported before.
>From 1.9.7 starting to play a song mostly add a delay, often followed by
skipping one or two songs. My Classic responds by showing Screensaver
during these delays, as if the player was stopped/turned off.
The Spotify apps (no matter platform) starts to flicker when doing a
skip or jumping to the next song in playlist. Without knowing better I
would guess there is some sort of interference/confusion between
LMS-Spotty and Spotify app.
Sometimes
In 1.9.6 I didn't experience this, then Connect played solid until
stopping as a cause of full /tmp

When monitoring /tmp folder I see several .tmp files of the exact
same size, there can be 1 or even up to 10, some of these are
disappearing after a few seconds, sometimes its hard see since some
files disappears while other are appearing for the first time.
My impression is that this weekend Spotty is more successful to clean
out those files than last weekend.
In 1.9.6 I always saw 2 identical sized .tmp files for every song
that was about to play. But only one of the files was removed, leading
to that my /tmp was filed up after 20-30 songs resulting in Spotty to
stop.

I made a few changes in my setup since last weekend:
-I have updated to the latest nightly (from one in October)
-I was now successful in getting spotty to use the 64-bit version using
the the -custom suffix (last weekend spotty wouldn't use those).
...I don't believe any of these changes can be accountable for the
different behavior though.

I just wanted to share my findings if that can help in the
development...

It can't be said too many times, thanks Micheal for doing this!!

I noticed that you released a 1.9.7, I installed it without problem.

First of all I don't need to rename the pv-files as I used to, it just
works!

There is a major difference in behavior in the /tmp folder.
I see lots of .tmp files appearing, files with the same size create
at the exact same time and with a few seconds difference, for some songs
it 3 files for others there are 10+ files. Some are deleted, some are
left behind.
It takes a long time before first songs starts to play.
Sometimes the song plays nicely, sometimes the player starts and stops,
on the same song or skips to the next.

Over all a step back but I'm sure you are working something out...

Let me know if there is something I should test.

Didn't find the pv (pipe viewer) utility. Please install pv using your package

I’m using QNAP-NAS and Spotty already included the required PV
executables. My problem was that Spotty didn’t find them.

First you need to identify which bin library Spotty is using.
-Check in settings/advance/Spotty , there you see what Spotty file is
used and more important were it is located.

Try rename or copy the corresponding pv-file that fits your architecture
(they have different endings in the file name). Name it just pv and try
if that works. The correct way is to name it pv-custom, this way it is
kept during an upgrade, else you need to back and rename it again.

All files were from the same day, before starting my listening session I
cleared /tmp from these files, there were 3 or 4 files that was a few
days old.

I did skip a few times, mostly I switched players using the Spotify app.
Between squeezebox players and iPhone/Computer devices.

I saw you mention that files was cleared when there was 20 files or
older than 24 hours. But I had 30+ files, but within 5 hours. And when
starting I had a few older than 24hours. So purging of these files do
not seem to work yet.

I think the threshold can be reduced to 5 or 10 files or older than 10
minutes. It seems like these files are only needed for a few seconds,
since they are created before playing a new song, and are removed after
a few seconds when everything seem to work.

2017-11-11 Thread jasell

After playing Spotify all day and moving around my house and bringing my
Spotify session around by switching player for from the Spotify app on
my phone or computer Spotty eventually failed and stopped playing.

I could not start to play any Spotify content, neither from the Spotify
app (connect) or from iPeng (playlists).

This is the log-file file

In my /tmp folder I now had several (30+) .tmp files with file size
from 8-17 MB each.
( These temp files seems to have roughly the same file size as a song,
could that be the transcoded songs?)

When I deleted these files I could successfully start playing again
without restarting my NAS or LMS.

When I monitor my /tmp folder I notice that when I start playing a new
track I see 2 new .tmp files with identical size.
After a few seconds the first disappear and after a few more seconds the
second file disappears.
The file sizes are the same independent of what transcoding I use
(flac/mp3/pcm) but vary in size depending of what song I play.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty v1.9.0 - now with experimental Spotify Connect support!

2017-11-11 Thread jasell

I'm not sure what you did in 1.9.6 but this version works much better
for me!
-Less delay when start playing the first song
-Skipping a track is immediate (1 sec delay)

I have spotty-custom and pv-custom, both copied from original files in
the same directory (Spotty-x86_64 and PV-x86_64)
Folder:
/opt/ssods4/var/home/SqueezeboxServer/Cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/Spotty/Bin/i386-linux/

I had some *.tmp files, I manually cleared those and now I don't get
any new.

What is the "best" transcode option to use when on a low powered NAS?
-Flac, PCM or MP3?
All 3 works for me.

Many thanks for your efforts, much appreciated!!

I’m not sure I follow you...

In the Plugin Folder:
.../SqueezeboxServer/Cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/Spotty/Bin/i386-linux
I had originally 4 files:
PV-i386
PV-x86_64
Spotty
Spotty-x86_64

Where I assume PV-i386 and Spotty are 32-bit. I assume PV-x86_64 and
Spotty-x86_64 to be 64-bit.

On startup Spotty was recognized but not PV. By looking at the file
names I guessed that the plugin was looking for PV and not any of the
other file names. So I made a simple file rename to complete the
pattern.
Renamed files:
PV
PV-x86_64
Spotty
Spotty-x86_64

This made Spotty-plugin to find PV on LMS startup. But I still had
errors. Those might be related to logging set to INFO mentioned earlier.

So I changed logging level to WARN. At the same time I also renamed the
files again, since my system is 64-bit.
New file names:
PV-i386
PV
Spotty-i386
Spotty

So based on this, how am I mixing 32 and 64-bit?

If a copy these files to *-custom, how do I get the Spotty plugin to use
these files?

Do these files have correct names originally?
Are these files renamed during the installation? Since they originally
not complete the naming pattern, or are there code in the plugin to use
the corresponding file based on identified architecture?

If any of these questions are applicable, is there something not working
as supposed?
