It's in fact easy to force a time sync in Windows via the option in Settings. But I've discovered that Win only syncs time of its own volition once very seven days - so some drift is evidently possible. There are various little programs out there that say they will enable sync every X hours / days to some fancy Atomic Clock - but they mostly seem rather old, and a couple that I've just tried don't persuade me that they work any better than the Win internal system. I've uploaded to Stuart's Dropbox about 10 mins of Debug Internet Radio Log for Sounds from today - stream is R4x eitherside of 1400hr Paris time. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Good Buffering!
It's surprisingly tricky to explain clearly! Let's say I'm listening to a 45min R3 live music stream, and that stream is due to end at 7.30 BBC time, with a switch to the continuity chap introducing the next concert. Now, for whatever reason, there *is* some delay in the system, at one end or another - typically that concert will for me be running a minute or two late (depending on how long I've been continuously listening to R3 during the day). So, for me, the music will end at, say, 7.32 my time and move onto to next program. BUT, at exactly 7.30 BBC time, my stream stops for a tiny amount of time, before recommencing (with no *program* gap at all) and running until 7.32. It's hardly the end of the world, but because it sometimes spoils the final climax, or quiet resolution, or judders the denoument of a play, it's really quite annoying. I should add that I have a sense that this has started happening quite recently - last few months - as the rest of the family have started commenting on it, and noticing that it happens on the hour or half or quarter hour "real" time, rather than my local program time LMS 8.2.1 - 1639114554 Win11 Control: Web GUI; MaterialSkin on Android phones / pads Machines / devices are in France, in two locations. a) Livebox 4 Internal HDD (FLAC music; mp3 voice), LAN Desktop 3 x Touch - 1 wireless, 2 LAN. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Good Buffering!
Hope I can describe this well enough - and I don't see anything specifically about it in the github page So, I usually listen to the Beeb live rather then on demand. And I listen to a lot of the longer programs - plays on R4 and R4x, and music on R3. What I'm finding is that, at the real-time end of a stream (often on the hour or half-hour) I'm getting a slight pause / stutter in what I'm listening to, that then takes up at the same spot half a second or so later. I'm guessing that there's some kind of conflcit between the DASH stream's interaction with LMS (or a player) and the old-fashioned LMS world buffer? That Sounds is "marking" the real time program/stream change, but that the buffer "says", OK, but let me just finish the last stream for where I thought I was.. If that makes sense! Anyway, it's rather annoying! Especially for classical music, it means that there's a little interruption in the the last bar of the piece being performed, often rather spoiling the whole thing! Is there some kind of fix for this in my assorted settings? I supspect that, in the past, I've lengthened buffer times, a "fix" which is not longer needed for Sounds and its DASH stream. Incidentally, if I do hit Pause (rather then Mute) but then want the stream to pick up in real time rather than at the paused time, what's the button tactic to do that? Easy from LMS, but from the remote? Is it Play, rather then (Un)Pause? Or hit the (pre-programmed) numbered preset button? [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Good Buffering!
Buffering as a topic is usually problems / issues. This is the opposite - great buffering! Maybe it's always been like this, but not, I think! - in my experience Listening yesterday to the BBC R3 Sunday Drama stream - Shakespeare's Othello - via LMS / BBC Sounds plug-in Live Stream, pushed to a Touch. 2 hours 10 mins of excellent drama. But, 45mins in, I had to Pause the stream to attend to something else. A full hour later I thought I'd get back to it, and at least hear the end. What I expected on hitting Play on the Touch (actually on LMS) was a few minutes of buffered stream from when I had paused, and then a stop-jump to where the stream then was in real time, with just under 30 mins to play. But, the stream picked up exactly where I had paused and then played the rest of the drama, uninterrupted, for well over an hour, right to the end. Just to be sure, when I restarted, I pushed a fresh stream of the play via LMS to a Radio - yes, real time was an hour ahead of the buffered stream. No complaints at all! But I don't think I've ever had a hour or so of buffered live stream before. "Usual", or not? Mind you, I've had the blue-screen-of-death on Madame's Mac twice last year! And her iPhone's power management is presently a pain in the a** That LMS taskbar icon thing in Windows is a puzzle to me - and not just LMS. Mostly it's "just there" - but sometimes (especially after a Win update) it isn't, and has to be manually pushed up. BTW, I am thinking of going Pi myself when we next move house (which should be this year.) and I want a serious redesign; so I'm always happy to hear happy users' tales! My only hesitation is a lurking sense that the whole LMS word - dearly though I love it - may start to get really toublesome as more router upgrades and redesigns roll into service. We shall see. Hope we hear from the OP again soon - my money is on something in retained preferences having got corrupted. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS Has Stopped Working. Cannot Get It Working Again.
As a dedicated Windows user, I don't have much to add to what's already been said as to trying a completely clean install of the latest LMS version. But I would add this - I've used LMS and Squeezeboxes of one sort or another for *decades* on Windows (currently 11) with hardly any problems whatsoever. So, while I in no way decry the moves some make to Pi systems etc, there is currently no reason whatever why you should not get a fully working, fully reliable, PC-based LMS world. It's annoying to you (and others here!) that it's not working for you just now - but the issue is just not inherent to Windows, as some seem sometimes to suggest. 'Morning All, I have Presets on all my Radios (via the hardware buttons) and on my Touches (via the numeric keypad on the remotes). Is there a way of selecting a Player within the LMS GUI (or, eg, MaterialSkin on a phone / pad) and then selecting one of the Presets to play? I use the Default GUI usually, and I can't see a way of doing this. Well, well, well ... I use the Default LMS Interface, and I don't believe the Sleep function is anywhere available in that. But I now see that using the Material Skin smartphone app (well, I actually use the Core32 version of that), I see that Sleep is there available. And of course as you say Sleep is in the Material LMS interface. Very useful, and stupidly I'd not seen that. I also see that Sleep is available in the old OrangeSqueeze phone app too. We've been discussing various replacement kit for Radio and Boom ( https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?115478-Recommendations-for-kitchen ) and come up with some interesting ideas, oddities and limitations A feature I use a lot on all my SB devices is the SLEEP option (though this would be relatively unimportant for a specifically kitchen player). Some non SB devices that LMS can drive have their own auto-shutdown / sleep function; some seem not to. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Volume synchronization of synchronized players
Yes you're right - the Touch is (temporarily) not doing audio at all. And of course, I could simply set it to control the SqueezeAmp without any sync - I'd totally forgotten that! It's amazing how much the SB world can do, and how little of it most of us use from day to day. I won't go into the long details of why I'm doing this - but if you all heard a loud howl of anguish at about 6.00pm Central European Time yesterday, that would have been me (after a long day of every first-world travel problem going wrong...) discovering that I'd left the damn power supply for my shiny new AudioEngine A2+s back in Paris. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Volume synchronization of synchronized players
For assorted temporary speaker setup reasons I've synched a SqueezeAmp (for audio) with a Touch (for screen, remote and control). Works fine, once I'd discovered here what I'd forgotten, or never knew: that you have (in LMS Settings) to tell them to both Sych AND Sync Volume, separately. Quick question, alluded to in the tread but not 100% clearly to me - when I sync the Current Player (which was the SqueezeAmp) to another player (the Touch), is the SqueezeAmp in any way a "Priority Player", or does the order of setup button-pressing not matter? Since you found the cause of your > problem, I suppose that in the mean time the problem is fixed? I searched and searched for that link to garym's suggestion, but somehow never found it! Yes, my problem is solved. As I said, I was faddling around with the URLs to save as a favorite (as the streaming had stopped working) and managed to delete it. Then - and this annoys me! - I forgot that, using this laptop as I do on 2 entirely different networks, of course the URL needs to be configured to the local server... And once I'd figured that, I eventually noticed that StremWhatYouHear wasn't running in the background anyway, so no URL/Favorite would have worked. So, I went down a few rabbit holes before the simple fixes worked... It is a very handy program / facility. I also occasionally use it for streaming radio whose browser-based access is more easily searchable than what comes up on the LMS radio menus. Find and play it in the browser, then sling it direct to LMS (remembering then to mute the laptop audio...). Also - and this for cricket fans, while sometimes Test Match Special on BBC radio is geo-restricted to the UK (and even defeats a VPN), the Beeb have recently been providing the Audio for overseas listeners via a YouTube channel. And SWYH is an easy way to LMS that feed. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Stream from PC Audio to LMS
Thanks to one and all. Turns out that the suggestion from way back in the Forum was to use Stream What You Hear, and to copy and paste the streaming URL as an LMS favorite. That URL is http://***.***.*.**:5901/stream/swyh.mp3I did have that backed up in my system, but the problem turned out to be that somehow Stream What You Hear had stopped running, and was not auto-starting on bootup: no idea why, as I'd been using it a lot recently. For me its use is to a) stream BBC radio from the laptop to LMS on those strange occasions when Sounds (via the plug-in) is geographically restricted but browser access isn't; and b) to stream YouTube audio for some sports stuff. A while back, one of the Clever Coves here in the forums suggested a simple way of streaming the actual audio playing on a PC to LMS, and thence to players. It involved simply saving as a favorite an appropriate: . Has worked fine for me: run the local PC audio, and hit the saved "PC Stream" favorite in LMS, directed at a particular player. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Logitech Media Server Version 7.9 - stopped scanning files
Not sure if this is related. Since installing 7.9.3, my ScanLog has literally thousands of entries, all somewhat like this: Slim::Schema::_preCheckAttributes (2596) Invalid ReplayGain tag found in D:\MEDIA\1 - INSTRUMENTAL\BACH, J.S\BAROQUE SELECTIONS\Baroque 2 - Masters of Baroque Music\14 - Bach _ Brandenburg concerto No.3 in G Maj, BW1048-Allegro - Baroque 2 - Masters of Baroque Music.mp3: REPLAYGAIN_TRACK_GAIN -> or Slim::Schema::_createOrUpdateAlbum (1195) Invalid ReplayGain tag found in D:\MEDIA\3 - MODERN\Waters, Muddy Live SF 1966\019Sweet Sixteen.mp3: REPLAYGAIN_ALBUM_GAIN -> Every line has either (2596) or (1195) in it, alternating. At a glance, it looks as if this "error" is being reported for almost every track in my Library. However, all the tracks play just fine. Very odd. Plus, the most current release of 7.9.3 (7.9.3 - 1597753178) has a couple of small fixes to address the puzzling repository errors that are still persisting, while our genius volunteer coders are wrestling the issue to the ground ... I installed it this morning over my previous 7.9.3, with no problems at all. [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Logging Has Lost Its Date / Time Stamp - Solutions?
I though I'd open a new thread on this, so as not to clutter the substantive discussions in other thread on the current LMS / Inaccessible Repository / Hangs / Crashes threads... In posting my assorted Server Logs in those threads, member bpa noticed that at a certain point my logs had lost their date stamps for errors events, as below. I subsequently installed a successful 7.9.3 over the problematic 7.9.2, but the logs - as of this morning - still lack a date / time stamp; which is unhelpful. I tried resetting my Logging preferences; I tried a general re-boot. But still no date / time stamps on entries. I looked through various other members' log details on the Repository fault, and nobody else seems to have this same logging issue. Odd. Any ideas on how to fix? Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS 8.0 repository problem
I was the OP in another of the "repository errors stopping 7.9.2 running" threads. I "fixed" this by installing 7.9.3. And, so far as I can tell, my whole system is working perfectly, both from its stored music and from BBC radio streams. However, the Server Log looks like a total mess to me (but I'm no tech expert at all..), with all sorts of "errors" I've never before seen, as well as the same repository curiosities. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS Frozen, Crashing...
So, clearing prefs etc and updating to 7.9.3 seems to have worked. But, given that the fault developed "out of the blue", we shall see over the course of the day... BTW, I have Auto Install of updates enabled. So I guess I went from the manual, fresh install of 7.9.1 to 7.9.2 without noticing. But why then no auto-update to 7.9.3? Q: Given that I cleared my Prefs etc, I now see that the optional Repository box in Settings>PlugIns is empty. I though I had entries there relating both to BBC iPlayer, and AirPlay Bridge. Do I in fact need anything there, and how do I find the Repositories if so needed? Last night I ran a BBC radio stream on a Radio via LMS 7.9.1, no problems. But this morning, while the radio stream was still running, my browser (F'fox) won't connect to LMS, and no other player will connect to LMS. Tried a few re-boots, but no joy. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Odd display of artist and album names
Here's an oddity that I've been worrying at over the last couple of days - not sure how / whether precisely related to this thread so far, but it involves accented letters I had a whole folder of mp3 off-air recordings of the John Le Carré oeuvre, 12 sub-folders in all. But no matter what I did, the main folder showed up as containing only one book folder, named , which played fine; but all the others - all named something like etc - were missing in LMS. I could go direct to the folders on my PC and play them on, say, Winamp - so no problems with the mp3s themselves. Seeing this thread, I just wondered if the accented é in the folder titles was causing some sort of issue - but, then, the stuff played fine. Anyway, I tried deleting the é in and replacing it thusly . Ah-ha - the folder now shows up in LMS and plays fine! So, an easy solution. BUT, here's an oddity that someone else will probably immediately identify. When I - in Windows File Explorer - hightlighted , jumped to the end and backspaced the é, it didn't vanish as I expected, but simply changed to a plain e. No idea how I ever typed the é it in the first place - but it would have been within mp3tag. Strangely, the one folder that was showing up, must have had that é encoded differently, as the backspace deleted the é rather than altering it. So, two different encoding of the é, one of which LMS was fine with, and one of which rendered the folder invisible on a scan. Anyway, I replaced them all with a plain e to totally avoid the issue. I dare say that I will have this problem elsewhere in the entire Music Folder, which I have just not yet noticed. Only thing I can say if that, over the years, I have played all those Le Carré books many times - and never before noticed this problem. However, this is a wholly new installation of LMS and a new physical SDD with the Music Folder on it - so maybe something odd has happened in the transfer process. Sorry for the length of the "issue", but it had me baffled for a few days. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Removing a player from the drop down list?
I had a similar thing when I installed the AirPlay Bridge PlugIn - successful and trouble free for a new Airplay speaker, but the Drop Down Player List on the LMS GUI now showed my Apple TV and my Cable Box as Players. Turns out that right at the bottom of the AirPlay Bridge PlugIns setting page there is an option to tick or untick all the devices it can find. So, unticking the unwanted ones there removed them from the LMS GUI. I'm sticking to 7.9.1 for now. I also just remembered the solution to my original problem - duh Of course, the Menus under Home in the LMS Web Interface are *set at the player level*. So, to re-order them and chose which to see, that's done on the plyer itself, and are then just mirrored at the LMS GUI. An oddity seems to be that, following a new LMS installation on a new machine, LMS alters the Player preferences that were previously set at the individual players. I just took a close look at a Touch (which I usually run wholly from the LMS), and saw that all my Menus had been set to some unholy, messy "Default". So, to get my LMS menus in order, I need to sit with the assorted palyers for a few minutes... I quite like to look of Material Skin though - and it does mean that Home Menus can be organised from the LMS interface. [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Home Menu Order in LMS GUI
I'm sure |I sked this recently, and got a good answer. But I'm damed if I can now find it I'm a dab hand with re-ordering Menus on various players. But, how do I customize the Home Menus in the LMS web GUI itself? I use the DEFAULT interface. I've just installed LMS on a new machine - and the contents of the MY MUSIC are a mess, that I'd like to much simplify. Likewise, I'd really like the FAVORITES tab to be at the top, not 4th down. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] library rescan seems to start at random times
I had a RESCAN oddity recently that I was going to raise in the Forum, but which I managed eventually to solve on my own. My LMS is set to RESCAN when it detects additions or changes. I hadn't done either recently, but LMS was suddenly endlessly rescanning, and freezing up in assorted annoying ways. While I was grabbing and preparing LOGGING files to show here, I noticed that they seemed to show a scanning hang-up with a single MP3 file in a single album (among thousands). I guessed that file - which I had not touched for years, even just to play it - had somehow developed corruption and that LMS was seeing this as a change that it could not deal with. Oddly, the file still played fine (in WinAmp - I couldn't get near it via LMS)! So, I simply deleted the file from its album folder, and then a RESCAN went though the whole music HDD quite quickly, and finished properly. I had another FLAC version of the same file, so I then just popped that into the folder, and again a RESCAN went ahead with no problems. Odd, really: why should an unused file suddenly corrupt itself? And why would LMS see that as a "change", triggering RESCAN? I'll try tonight the BBC R4 MP3 I quoted above - that's a long-time Saved Favorite, and seems to work every time I try it, so no obvious time restrictions. In another ALARM thread for back in the day I noticed few folks with a broadly similar error to the one I'm having recommended trying a slightly different start time for the alarm itself, so I'll vary that by a couple of minutes too. As to the "blueness", I'm referring to the Default GUI of the LMS Server. Up alongside the Pause/Play/ Jump buttons is the icon for REPEAT. Three options: Off (grey) , Repeat Track (blue), Repeat Playlist (blue with squiggle). I always have that button Off. But this morning it was On/Blue. As you say, that probably Alarm itself necessitating a Repeat. Would that work, or do I need to edit it before trying? 4 - is set to 0 minutes, which is said to mean "never stops playing". Is that the setting you mean? I also tried 90 minutes, but with the same 0817 "fault". BTW, after I opened the thread I noticed something a tad odd - maybe? - in the WebUI. For the Radio I'm using as an alarm, the REPEAT icon was blue. When I'm just playing various players, I always have REPEAT set to OFF. Is the blueness of the icon activated by my alarm setting, or had I somehow clicked on a troublesome repeat option? [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Alarm Stream Switching to Disco at the Same Time Every Morning
I know ALARM can be a quirky function; and I know using a radio stream as the alarm adds to that quirkiness. However: Attached is a log of what is odd behavior on a Radio every morning for the past few days. Essentially, I go to sleep with a BBC R3 stream from LMS until SLEEP cuts it out at 0230. Then ALARM is set for 0730, running a BBC R4 stream (i.e. runs until manually stopped). Almost always works fine **Until 0817 every morning**, when it switches to the Disco Blast (which at least now runs quietly, since finding that useful Reduce Volume patch). Ideas welcome. +---+ |Filename: Server Log A.txt | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=26891| +---+ AGB Logitech Media Server Version: 7.7.6 - 1521467459 @ Thu Mar 29 16:46:01 WEDT 2018 Operating system: Windows 10 Music Library: external SD, exFAT (FLAC music; mp3 voice) USA: LinkSys WRT54GS Router, WPA2 1 x Touch, LAN (Firmware:7.7.3-r16676) Controller: 7.7.2-r9663 France: Sagem Livebox 2FR, or Freebox 1 x SB3, wireless. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Alarm didn't go off!
bpa wrote: > Never rely on just playing an internet stream for an alarm - there are > too many variables that can go wrong. I'm going through a phase of my Radio not picked up my preferred alarm (a BBC radio internet stream.) and launching loud disco music. So far as I can tell - browsing years of forum discussions of this - there is no simple way of changing that default music to something more soothing... But, I did find this thread - https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?77403-Workaround-for-too-loud-fallback-alarm-change-volume/page2 - which offers an easy way of at least greatly reducing the *volume* of that default disco when it does kick in. I've installed the patch, and will see over the next few days if it still works or not! As suggested in many threads, my problem seems to be a mix of a) net stream failures, b) occasional home network glitches, and c) perhaps LMS server wake-up issues on the laptop that runs it. Usually the BBC stream plays fine - and, now being retired! - it's not really a major problem for me if it goes off early, late, not at all, or annoyingly. But I'm one of those "stuff should just work" guys, and it is frustrating that the Alarm function is a tad flaky. PowerSave has 3 options (as well as 5 or 6 time periods for each option): Off after STOP/PAUSE; Off after STOP; or Off ALWAYS. That last one turns the given player Off after x minutes (from when you check ENABLE for that Player in Settings), whatever it's doing, playing included. So, that last acts as a Sleep timer.
