Un-fortunately, I had a couple of conditions set in the actual filter from previous tests, and in my haste to try your suggestion I overlooked them. This caused many emails to get moved to the destination folder that shouldn't have. I'll have to weed out those inadvertant moves and compare the final count of emails to the count before the re-filter to see if it has gone up. I'll let you know. Filter help
Hello TBUDL'ers, I have a folder which contains multiple unique emails from a particular group of people. They were originally moved there manually. I wanted to create a filter for the source folder to look for the characters in their email addresses which appear before the @ sign, then move those emails to the aforementioned destination folder. When I re-filtered the source folder, only about 39 of the emails actually got moved. Many more which met the criteria specified in the filter were never moved. I double and tripled checked for typing errors and there were none. I can't pinpoint the 39 that were moved because the destination folder had over a hundred already-read emails and the emails that didn't get moved from the source folder were also already-read. I used the block option in the creation of the filter because there were so many (about 128) addresses I wanted caught. In the re-filter options of the source folder I chose incoming mail, read mail and replied messages all at once. Anyone have any idea why the filter caught 39 of them and not any of the others? -- TIA, Jack LaRosa Using TB! 6.0.12 OS: Win 10 v6 Build: 9200 Current version is 9.1.18 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Help w/ upgrading
Hello Bat Folk, Many years ago I used TB! (2.12*) and loved it, then [stuff happened] and I find myself now needing TB! more than ever. I have the latest ver now installed (7.4.16 - trial mode) I also have my full old install and a full backup of it. Let's call this account: o...@reallyold.net I'd like my new install operate just the way I had 2.12 operating. A major part of what I'm looking for are all the rules (templates?) that used to auto-populate things like the REPLY-FROM field to always automatically populate with the email address that the original email was sent to me at, signatures based on from FROM addresses, etc. I cannot even remember all the customizations I grew to need! So, How do I restore from the old backup http://mudshark.com/Image1.jpg so that my old 2.12 machinations and environment transpose to the new account, let's call it: new-acco...@newserver.com Thanks, all * Yes, I still have the installer for version: the_bat_v1.49_x-mas_edition Using The Bat! v%THEBATVERSION on %WINDOWSPLATFORMNAME %- %WINDOWSMAJORVERSION.%WINDOWSMINORVERSION Build %- %WINDOWSBUILDNUMBER %WINDOWSCSDVERSION Current version is 7.1 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Feature laundry list from administration - help!
Hello Tbudl, We have new administration. They are used to Outlook and quite dissatisfied with The Bat!. I have a laundry list of items that they wish to have changed in order to keep using The Bat!; otherwise, they want to look into other options (i.e. Outlook). Some things, I can figure out - they want all email replies to default to top-posting, for example, and they want the library logo included in the footer as well as social networking links and a privacy statement. Those, I have figured out. Other things, however, I haven't figured out. Also, I'm hoping that there's an easy way to duplicate profiles/template settings between accounts and computers as I don't want to have to manually make all of these changes on each individual computer. Hopefully, I can get some assistance with these items from the list, as I really, really do not want to have to move to Outlook. Outstanding items quoted directly from the laundry list: - Presentation of email to be received or sent without bracket lead - Footnote contact information remains with the body of the email. (presently the footnote is at the bottom of the page under the email trail) - Able to link directly to websites or online forms - Able to accept meeting invitations (outlook) - Able to link directly to a calendar function - Sharable calendar for admin staff - Able to save email in word document file I can easily change what is added before the angle brackets when quoting but I haven't been able to figure out how to get rid of the angle brackets entirely. I can move the quotation section below the footer in the reply template but that makes it part of the footer and changes its formatting accordingly. Does someone have a trick to override that? In addition to the main laundry list, I've been asked for a way to prevent The Bat! from automatically filling in addresses/groups from the history of typed addresses (should use address book only, so no one types addre...@example.com and ends up with addre...@example.com, addre...@example.com, addre...@example.com automatically filled in simply because the previous message that they sent had all of those addresses in the TO field). Note: Please don't tell me that some of these are non-standard ways to configure email or that they are not the preferred practice. I know this but have been told that these are acceptable business practice. I've been given the task of fulfilling the laundry list with The Bat! or moving to an email program that *will* fulfill the list. If someone happens to have excellent references to evidence that an item is NOT an acceptable practice, I'd love to have said references. We're currently on 6.0.12 - upgrading is an option ONLY if I can fulfill most if not all of the laundry list. Obviously, The Bat! does not have a sharable calendar included in it but I'd be grateful for suggestions of ones that work well in conjunction with The Bat!, either hosted or self-hosted. -- Best regards, Diana Calder mailto:dcal...@essexcountylibrary.ca Automation Technician(519) 776-5241 x.131 Essex County Library Essex, ON Current version is 6.6 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Need serious help with upgrade to B-Pro 6.2.2
I had version 5.9 on one computer a 5.8 on the other. Bought (without the discount cuz I didn't see it available) 6.2 installed it on both Win7-64 bit computers. Now all email accounts think they are POP3 when they are , or were, IMAP4 . I can not D/L emails from 1and1 nor GMX. The fail message is related to TLS refuses ... and/or another version of failure is Disconnected. If I try to send an email, the message is not sent and the log show See log for details. That's funny an circular logic but does not help me guess what's wrong. If I try to make repairs to any email account, TB-Pro shows the email account as POP3 no matter what I try. Thus, the new versions seemed to have converted all accounts to POP3. So I was forced to delete all accounts and make new ones. At that point, I elected to not delete the files and folder. This as incorrect choice as TBP still made the new account POP3 and that was unchangeable as long as the previous files and folders where there. I had no choice but to delete them in order to be able to re-create IMAP4. AND, it seems then that all files containing the previous emails were destroyed. O how to I set up an imap4 for 1and1. How do I set up a POP3 for GMX? I have tried all variations of what each site publishes for Port numbers. They both claim SSL and there's no way I can see to make that choice in TBP. if I am able once again to get and send email, what is the way to re-introduce any Restored Versions of past folders from all the email accounts? I have been using TB for over ten ears. This us the one and only time an upgrade has brought my systems to a standstill. I will guess that the root of the problem is mine. But I can't for the life of me guess where I messed up two computers on one upgrade. -- Regards, Robert Current version is 6.1.8 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Help with removing old email addresses
I haven't been here in a long time, but I'm having a problem with old email addresses which appear when I begin to address an email. However, since neither I nor my wife ever trusted the old laptop (erratic operation), we felt safer buying a brand new laptop. My problems (read confusion) came about because as I mentioned, the old laptop had been upgraded from native Win XP to Win 7. My lack of knowledge of native Win 7 caused me considerable consternation in trying to figure out how I had managed to cause two PROGRAM FILES folders to appear on the C: drive. If a similar HDD crash were to occur on this new laptop and I had an image of the HDD before the crash, I would simply replace the HDD and restore from the image. That would be my reasoning for creating an image of this new laptop. I would create images, perhaps weekly, and then continue doing regular daily routine (not image) backups. SB 2. Hi Jack, From your message, i could point some errors you've made... Your old laptop and your new one does not use the same system (32 bits vs 64 bits,...), and thus you cannot just restore any file/settings like that (and certainly not any executable)... \PROGRAM FILES folder is for program running natively on the system (on your new system, 64 bits programs), when \PROGRAM FILES(x86) is for old 32 bits programs... Now you've placed some files of a 32bits program (The Bat!) in the 64 bits folder, just the right way to have mistakes... When you reinstall a new computer, you could of course restore your own data, but you should not restore settings as settings are partly dependent of the system. Settings from your old computer may not be adapted to your new computer (it's the case here with the PF directory name). For TheBat!, you have a backup/restore function to do what you want, much more easily and without the need to pay HP for the support :) Easy : on the old computer, you do a backup, on the new computer, you install thebat, then you restore the backup. done :) Le mercredi 14 juillet 2010 à 23:59:46, vous écriviez : This next point perhaps should be addressed to TBOT but it may have some bearing here. Hello Stephane, Thank you so very much for replying. On Tuesday, July 20, 2010 you wrote: SB Hi Jack, SB From your message, i could point some errors you've made... SB Your old laptop and your new one does not use the same system (32 bits vs 64 bits,...), and thus you cannot just restore any file/settings like that (and certainly not any executable)... I did not know this. We bought the new laptop knowing that it would come with Windows 7 installed but *NOT* realizing that it would be the 64 bit version. Even had we known about it being 64 bit I would have automatically assumed that it would function as the old 32 bit version did. SB \PROGRAM FILES folder is for program running natively on the system (on your new system, 64 bits programs), when \PROGRAM FILES(x86) is for old 32 bits programs... When I was attempting to restore the old backup onto the new machine, the Windows backup I had on my USB HDD didn't seem to work so I used the Carbonite off-site backup to do the restore. Then when I had trouble getting TB! to work I looked at the folders on the C: drive and was surprised to find a PROGRAM FILES folder *AND* a PROGRAM FILES(x86) folder. Since I had no knowledge of the structure of the 64 bit OS, I assumed I had somehow accidently created the PF(x86) by first trying to do the restore with the old Windows backup, abandoning that method and going with the Carbonite backup. SB Now you've placed some files of a 32bits program (The Bat!) in the 64 bits folder, just the right way to have mistakes... Perhaps, but at least TB! now seems to be working properly. I have not yet done a TB! backup but I'm thinking that might be a good idea and once completed, flag the TB! backup as a file which should be included in the on-going Carbonite backup. That way presumably I would have a TB! backup stored off-site. SB When you reinstall a new computer, you could of course restore your own data, but you should not restore settings as settings are partly dependent of the system. Thank goodness for the Carbonite backup. In defence of the Windows backup however; I might have gotten it to work had I more time to fool with it but I was under tremendous pressure to get the new machine up and running as soon as possible. However, silly me, I wanted to save the new address book in the same folder the TB executable is in. Why? Oh I don't know. Maybe to keep all things BAT together? OH! No, no, no. Bill Gates won't let me do that with his new 64bit Windows 7 OS. I kept getting an error message that said I couldn't do that and I had to contact the system administrator. Once that folder was created I then created a new address book and saved it in that folder. I was then able to import from the cleaned-up CSV file into the new address book and everything seems to be working just peachy fine. Address book help
Fellow list members, My wife's laptop just died and I have tried (almost successfully) to get the new laptop up and running the way the old one was. I had been backing up the old laptop using Carbonite and also using the Windows 7 backup utility backing up to an external HDD thru a USB port. Neither Carbonite nor the MS backup was saving everything but by performing a restore from the MS backup first and then from the Carbonite backup (which took a couple of days to complete), I was able to retrieve what I assumed to be most of the TB! files. Since the .exe file was never backed up (apparently neither Carbonite nor the MS backup saves those types of files) I had to re-install TB! from a copy I retained the last time we upgraded (to 4.0.38). After the install I added her name as an account and voila!, everything appeared to be back the way it was on the old laptop. All of her folders and emails were there. It was only later that I learned that new contacts added to the address book are not retained the next time TB! is started. In addition, there's a mysterious blank contact at the top of the list which can be deleted (it takes several seconds to perform the delete) but will be there again the next time TB! is started. I have searched both the HDD backup files and the Carbonite backup files to no avail. I cannot find her original .abd file in either of those two locations so I am at a loss to even understand from where the file materialized in the first place and yet, there it is. This next point perhaps should be addressed to TBOT but it may have some bearing here. The new laptop's HDD has two folders; one named PROGRAM FILES and one named PROGRAM FILES(x86). Each folder contains a TB! folder but the TB.exe is in the PFx86 folder. All of the .abd files are in the PF folder. I copied her .abd file to the PF(x86) folder and selected it to be opened while I was in in the address book window. I wound up with two identical address books, both of which MALfunction exactly the same. I don't know if it makes any difference but the old laptop was running XP and was upgraded to Windows 7 while the new laptop came with Windows 7 already installed. Does an OEM Windows 7 have two PF folders? If there's someone out there who has been able to follow this convoluted description and might have some ideas, I'd appreciate all the help I can get. -- TIA, Jack LaRosa mailto:jlar...@charter.net Sticking with with The Bat! ver: 4.0.38 for now. It wouldn't take anything away from anything else, it would only add a feature. please consider it. All it would have to be is another checkbox like, Allow single carriage return. BM I have gotten into the habit of 1) separating paragraphs with a blank line BM and 2) just before sending the message I select Options Message Format Plain Text (MicroEd) (which causes all paragraphs to become one long BM line each). I then select each paragraph like that and hit Alt-L to BM reformat it and *then* click the send button. Now I'm confused. Are you using MicroEd? If so, there is no need to hit format first, just alt-click. It's necessary for me only if I added some words into a paragraphm as I have auto-format off. Oh, you can set auto-format on, then you don't need to hit alt-L, as you prefer. And yes, a new paragraph starts after 2 line feeds, that's normal (IMHO). Also in Windows editors (for example in MS-Word) I hit enter twice to mark a new paragraph. It doesn't look good otherwise. Maybe there is even a grammar rule about it. BM Now I have figured the reason is that RitLabs considers that the Windows BM Editor is to be normally used with proportional fonts and that the number BM of characters is not an appropriate measurement (although they seem to BM handle it fine during editing). If there was an option to specify the final BM width by inches, cm, picas, points,... and if I choose a fixed pitch font BM so I could get that 75 character line, I would be very pleased. I don't know about this. BM BTW, as you can see by my sig, I am using TB v2.11 and it *is* possible BM that some such feature has been incorporated into a more recent version. If BM so, I might (might!) be tempted to upgrade. I don't think MicroEd has changed since TB! v1.x, except for the ability to use UTF. I don't know about the Windows editor. -- Cheers, Thomas. http://thomas.fernandez.hat-gar-keine-homepage.de/ Message reply created with The Bat! 4.2.9.4 under Windows XP 5.1 Build 2600 Service Pack 3 Current version is 4.2.9.1 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Please help me understand the Pros and Cons of MicroEd (many, many wrapping issues)
I cannot get my head around MicroEd. I want to like it, but I always have problems with wrapping issues. Please help me answer some questions: Question #1: What are the differences between MicroEd and Plain Windows? Question #2: What does Auto-Format do? Please be detailed, I don't get it. Question #3: Why can't the paragraphs wrap to the window size rather than a certain number of characters? Question #4: Sometimes I write an email, it looks fine. But when the other person recieves it, the wrapping is all crazy with alternating long/short lines. As if one of my lines was being wrapped before it should be and the leftover spills over to the next line. Question #5: Why do we have to use Alt-L to reformat the wrapping if you go back and edit? All other editors everywhere in the world do this automatically. Is this a MicroEd thing, or does it happen with the Windows editor also? More like this and this A Question #2: A What does Auto-Format do? Please be detailed, I don't get it. I don't know everything. ;-) It doesn't like new lines, when hit enter and continue typing it continues on the same line. To really start a new line you've got to start a new paragraph: hit enter twice so you've got an empty line in between. When you start typing in the middle of some text it keeps on wrapping everything correctly instead of what you experience with question 5. That way your contact will see what you see as the size of his window and yours don't have to be the same. Kinda nice for tables and such. Then another new line starts on his screen where the message text begins a new line. Alternatively, look at these messages in the Outbox or the Sent folder to see if your copy has alternating long and short lines, too. If it is a message you have gone back and edited but not reformatted with ALT+L (assuming you are not using auto-format) then TB! will have wrapped any excessively long lines but maybe not to the width in your editor settings. Filter Help needed
Hello Everyone, I am hoping for some clarification re filter rules. I would like to streamline emails generated on a website to different accounts ( in my bat and external) depending on who works on them. I set up some filter but I am afraid I have not fully understood the way they should work in sequence. My current set up is: 1) known _ if address book contains sender move to inbox known 2) subject contains skipped move to folder A 3) subject contains mail delivery or header contains mailer daemon or text contains successful delivery notifications or text contains fatal error move to Folder Bounce 4) text contains new address or text contains new account info forward message to other email address A 5) recipient contains xyz forward to email address B All filters are set to continue processing with other filters. Should I use forward message to other email or redirect? What is the difference? Does forward just mean a copy will be sent but the original email is still going into the folder and then will be processed by the next filter? My idea is to direct the emails to whoever is working on them without creating duplicates or cluttering the original mailbox. So if filter rule 3 is met, the journey ends in folder Bounce but otherwise rule 4 should apply. -- Best regards, Tom using TheBat! 4.0.28.3 on XP Current version is 4.1.11 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

I'll write back with an update. -- Best regards, Jackmailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Using TB! v3.99.3 with K9 v1.28 anti spam Windows XP pro 5.1 Build 2600 - Service Pack 3 Current version is 4.0.24.0 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
