Yes, it can be done today..just not perhaps as seemless as you want.
You can pair your phone to a device > pCP 6.0.0-b4. Also install
pcp-streamer. Then connect your phone and play music to the Bluetooth
device.

Phone -> Bluetooth Sink -> pcp-Streamer -creates a playable stream
of what is coming from your phone. Then point whatever player you want
to play the stream. (You can create a favorite on LMS)

Pros:
Any device on your LMS network can listen to what is coming from your
phone.
You can sync your players to this stream.

Cons:
Just cannot connect to a device and press playRequires using LMS
to pick what you want to hear.

To allow the pCP device to just play the audio sync could easily cause
conflicts and crashes if you were to accidentally try to play to the pCP
device via bluetooth and LMS at the same time.

2019-10-03 Thread Wigster

Hi,

The Bluetooth speaker as output devices in PCP6 sounds great. But I am
wondering about the reverse: using a PCP device itself as a Bluetooth
speaker (sink) itself.

My usecase is the following: I mostly use the PCP device as an LMS
player, connected over optical to my amplifier and dumb speakers. But
sometimes I would like to just throw the sound from my computer, phone
etc to the speakers in the room for a short moment. I use the
ShairTunes2 plugin in LMS for this, but this isn't compatible with all
the devices I have in the house.

It would seem to me to roughly be equivalent to running Shairport in PCP
itself, although I can see that the configuration/pairing might be a bit
more complicated.

Is such a thing possible?

Hello

I'm very happy with my new installation, it's a real pleasure.

However My squeezebox touch has a curious behavior. before
here's how it worked. I selected an album, I listened to it, and then I
stopped the SBT. At the restart no sound came out, I had to select a
musical record, or a radio to get sound. Since the integration of the
Rpi4, to the restart of the SBT, automatically I fall back on the last
track, or the last radio listened. I have the impression that the LMS
runs back plane constantly, despite stopping the squeezebox.

Is there a setting I would have missed?

I've installed pCP6-b4 onto a 3A+ this evening. You definitely need
your brain in gear with the 3A+, since it has no ethernet socket and
only one USB socket. Setting it up to act as a wifi AP means either
doing the installation in a 3B+, or using a USB-to-Ethernet adapter, and
if you have your music library on a USB device then it helps to have a
USB hub so that you can have the ethernet adapter and the disk attached
at the same time during setup.

But once it's set up it works fine. My 3A+ is used in my camper van, so
I love the fact that I can have multiple Bluetooth speakers paired. A
noticeable difference compared to my 4B though is that the 3A+ struggles
to play through more than one bluetooth speaker, whereas the 4B can play
through 3 simultaneously.

S'il apparaît vide, essayez de le brancher sur un PC et voyez s'il l'est
réellement (pCP n'aurait pas dû en modifier le contenu).

Si vous ne le voyez pas, est-il alimenté par sa propre source

A simple one-button method to clone the SD card to another location
(including another SD card) could be a useful addition to pCP - good
luck making that flexible and foolproof! You're right about LMS - it
seems to break one of the original big attractions of pCP, namely that
it's immune to loss of power. Ever since I added the SD card backup to
my regular backups I've felt much more secure, but I've also taken steps
to minimise the chances of accidentally killing the power without
shutting down cleanly first - I have a physical button that initiates a
shutdown, and I watch for the solid green LED before I kill the power.

I realise this is not the same as backing up a configuration, but it may
be useful as a way to backup your entire SD card - I do a nightly
backup of the SD card with this script:

Code:

imagefile=$1
  bs=$(fdisk -l | grep -A 3 mmcblk0: | grep Units: | awk -F= {'print $2'} | awk
{'print $1'})
  echo "blocksize="$bs
  count=$(fdisk -l | grep mmcblk0p2 | awk {'print $5+1'})
  echo "count="$count
  dd if=/dev/mmcblk0 bs=$bs count=$count | gzip > $imagefile
  # dd if=/dev/mmcblk0 bs=512 count=2170880 | gzip >
/mnt/Music/DiskImages/pCPLounge.img.gz

which I call with:

Code:

/home/tc/BackupSD.sh /mnt/Music/DiskImages/pCPLoungePi4.img.gz

I run this at 2am every day via a CRON job:

Code:

0 2 * * * /home/tc/NightlyJobs.sh

I then backup (and occasionally archive) my /mnt/Music/DiskImages
folder. I can then write the disk image (pCPLounge.img.gz) back to an
SD card (again using DD) if something goes wrong with the main SD card -
it's got me out of trouble a couple of times.

2019-09-29 Thread Howard Passman

If I have a USB thumb drive plugged in and I save my configuration, the
next time I restart the server, it fails to start. At that point I just
have to unplug the USB thumb drive and restart it. I don't have a
monitor hooked up, so I don't know where it's getting hung. Obviously
the config seems to be stored on the flash card.

I have tried reformatting the thumb drive and saving the configs to it
again.

Any hints at what I might be doing wrong?

BTW, the BT works really well.

Howard

I did end up getting jivelite to install and that is how I had the PI4
section configured when I tested the 64-bit kernel with the 7"
touchscreen. It got to the 2nd menu (language selection I think) and the
display became unresponsive. To clarify, the issue was it no longer
became responsive to touch. Did you happen to try with a touchscreen?

Make sure the [PI4] section looks like this.

Yes, pCP is developed for integration with LMS, so all of the features
are keyed to LMS integration. pcp-steamer is installed on the tweaks
page, which will create a web stream from an input device. Then all
you do is point your lms player to play that stream. Some help info is
with the streamer section.

To play directly from phone to local device requires a different
application, which may fight with squeezelite for control of the
physical output. Yes there are some ways around it, but it is far from
graceful.

or are you saying it's only for playing LMS to an ex bt speaker?

Thanks for the quick response Paul. I just picked up a second pi4 to
try it on since I have one that's mostly working and will report back.
Not clear on what the story is with the upstream bootloader / firmware
stuff and didn't know if I could try the 64-bit setup and revert.

Unrelated issue I have been trying to figure out with my
LMS/piCore/jivelite setup maybe you can suggest a solution to. I am
trying to build a mobile player here (installed in a car) and the
network connection I have is a cellular router connected via ethernet,
which gives the piCoredevice a different DHCP IP than the router I have
in my house does. The router in the car is hard-mounted and not easy to
bring in the house.

When the device has booted with 2 different IP's, sharelite seems to be
caching both and jivelite ends up asking me to select from one multiple
entries for the same player each time I boot. As all of them (typically
2, sometimes 3) refer to the same player, I have to pick one and cross
my fingers I won't have to wait for the >10s timeout if it's wrong. This
results in lots of waiting and futzing around with the screen before I
can play some tunes, so I'd love to figure out how to delete the cached
entries. Does this ring a bell and do you know where these cached
entries might be kept? can you think of a way of fixing an IP for the
jivelite/player integration? perhaps setting a fixed IP on the wireless
and pointing jivelite to the wireless/AP IP?

Fine by me. Disconnecting is therefore a way to (temporarily) remove a
player from LMS, and if it comes back the next time the speaker is
powered up that's all that is required I think.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] BETA: piCorePlayer6.0.0 - PI4 support

2019-09-24 Thread chill

I haven't got around to replacing the b1 image on my main 4GB Pi4 (lots
of settings to transfer over), but I've installed the new beta in 64-bit
mode onto my spare 1GB Pi4. I do like the new Bluetooth settings. I
like that I can have multiple speakers connected, and I like that I can
give them unique player names. This evening I've connected four
different devices, and have had three of them playing in sync with my
main hifi. Attempting to get the fourth one playing in sync as well
caused a few problems, but if I soft-power off one of them (in LMS), I
get the fourth one to work. Three seems to be the limit.

A few puzzling things at the moment:
1) There's a 'BT Delay' setting that defaults to 1000. I'm wondering
what this is for, and whether it interacts with the 'Player Audio Delay'
setting in LMS. I tried varying that number, and couldn't figure out
what difference it made. It certainly doesn't vary the audio delay by
that many milliseconds.
2) There's a 'Disconnect' button for each paired device. Once pressed,
and the player disconnects, is there a way that it could become a
'Connect' button? Short of cycling the power on the bluetooth speaker I
can't see how else to reconnect.

I'll give the Bluetooth+streamer option a go as well later. Being an
Apple household the Airplay options serve this purpose for me, but I'm
interested in how the Bluetooth sink option compares.

It’s no bother..look at the bottom of the pcp page, if it says

2019-09-24 Thread acanning

Thanks Paul

You are right in that I probably shouldn't be fiddling with things I
clearly don't understand but I enjoy the challenge and it helps me to
learn.

I have successfully updated the bootloader using your method and the new
version of PCP. All seems to be working very well and I have also
managed to transfer my prefs folder from the previous installation.

One last question (I promise not to bother you again (in the near future
at least))I beleive that I've setup up the 64 bit version following
the changes to the config file. Is there anyway, by looking at logs
perhaps, to confirm that I'm actually running in 64 bit?

Thanks again for all your help.

Not sure when you updated your boot loader, as I don't think Aug15 has
ever been standard.

The bootloader update has ZERO to do with installing pCP. If you don't
know why you should be updating your bootloader, perhaps you should not
do it.

I've downloaded and have booted the Pi4 using Raspbian :)
Using SSH I have carried out the following commands;
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

After about 20 minutes of activity I have rebooted and using command
"/opt/vc/bin/vcgencmd version" I get;

Perhaps I'm making progress but not sure if this is the latest?

I'm going to burn the new PCP image now

Yes, that error message is telling you that the firmware being used is
not new enough to upgrade the bootloader. Firmware is not the same as
the bootloader.

The pi4 bootloader is not even contained in the image. The flashing
process is completely separate. But be warned, that the Sept 10th 2019
firmware is now official, and if you are running Raspbian, then the
bootloader is going to get automatically updated when you do an update.

I will likely never make the process automatic on pCP.

Quick question

Do I need to update the bootloader in order to try the 64bit version of
the new beta? I got an error when I tried to update the bootloader just
now;

"vcgencmd: 'bootloader_config' command not supported. Please update VC

The same as experienced by gilladur I think.

Can I try the new beta without updating the bootloader?

Thanks

The PI-SPC would be 'this board'
I'm not sure if leaving it out works the same, but the audiophonics

vcgencmd: 'bootloader_config' command not supported. Please update VC
firmware

How to fix this or what could be the reason?

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] BETA: piCorePlayer6.0.0 - PI4 support

2019-09-21 Thread paul-

I have published a new beta
image.https://repo.picoreplayer.org/insitu/piCorePlayer6.0.0/piCorePlayer6.0.0-b4.zip

See info in the
OP...https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?110727-BETA-piCorePlayer6-0-0-PI4-support=944664=1#post944664

For only the pi4, I have built and included a 64bit kernel..the
userspace is still 32bit. The primary reason for this is the pi4 4GB
board *should* perform better in 64bit mode. To use the 64 bit kernel,
you will need to do a little manual editing..

- Burn Image to SD card
- Edit config.txt to swap to 64 bit kernel
- boot as normal.

The reason to do this on a base image, is that you will need the 64 bit
module extensions, which I only include a few critical ones on the base
image..once you are running the 64 bit kernel, swapping back to 32
bit can be done, but if you added any kernel modules (Like filesystems)
in 64 bit mode, you will not have the correct extension for 32 bit
mode(armv7l)

Here is the PI4 section from the config.txt and what you will need to do
to use the 64 bit kernel.

Code:

  [PI4]
  initramfs pcp_10.2v7l.gz followkernel
  kernel kernel41973v7l.img
  dtoverlay=vc4-fkms-v3d
  max_framebuffers=2
  ### Previous 4 lines are for a 32bit kernel
  ### Comment the previous 4 lines out and uncomment the next 3 for 64 bit
kernel
  #arm_64bit=1
  #initramfs pcp_10.2v8.gz followkernel
  #kernel kernel41973v8.img

I will make insitu_udpate available soon, but the main reason for this
beta release is the 64bit kernel which is much easier to start from a
fresh image.

2019-09-21 Thread paul-

Not sure how I want to support this long term, but since RPI just made
this default, I figured I would make an easier way for pCP users to get
the new firmware..

open an ssh session

Code:

  ceo
tce-load -w git rpi-vc python3.6 (You can omit if you already have
these)
  tce-load -i git rpi-vc python3.6
git clone https://github.com/piCorePlayer/rpi-eeprom.git (This is a
clone from rpi's git, with a few tweaks to the scripts for pcp.
  cd rpi-eeprom
sudo ./rpi-eeprom-update -a (This will update to the 9-10-2019 eeprom
binary that is now the default)
pcp rb (reboot to load the bootloader)

This this is a flash process if something goes wrong, make sure you are
aware of rpi's recovery
process.https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/

Unless there is a reason not to mount a small fan on your case it
certainly helped my RPI4. I use a FLIRC case and the case/fan combo
drops the temp to 38C.

It's mostly revolving around my available time. But in general, pCP6 is
ready, other than some details related the the pi4. I have the 64bit
kernel stuff built, but selection has not yet been integrated, I'm
holding off for now, I may end up just making 64 bit kernel the default
if things pan out.

Using Jivelte for a desktop player, It plays through a built

I missed that you moved the SD card, you _cannot__do that. As the Pi4
uses a completely different kernel and modules. We include all of the
kernels on boot disk, but when you add things, only the current running
kernel extensions are downloaded.

I would try to re-enter that, not sure how you would be adding a space
when copying and pasting, also the vers option for cifs normally takes
vers=1.0 (With the .0 on it)

If you want you can copy the file /usr/local/etc/pcp/netmounts.conf from
your pi4 and put it on your pi3.

sudo scp tc@://usr/local/etc/pcp/netmounts.conf
/usr/local/etc/pcp/netmounts.conf

pcp rb

Morning

Is there any reason why pCP 6.0.0-b1 shouldn’t work in a Pi3B?
I have it working well on a Pi4 but when I image the card (using

mount. It mounts perfectly on the 4 but not on the 3 even though the
settings are identical.

identical installation. Everything seems to work ok other than the
Network disk Mount.

This is what comes up……

I have Firefox and Chrome on this old XP SP3 Dell. Chrome version
Version 49.0.2623.112. Firefox 52.9.0

I also have a Windows 10 PC, but I prefer the old XP one because it's
fast and I am familiar with the registry. I'm not sure now if the
browser was the issue or something in the security of the older machine.
Doesn;t really matter since I can still get to the files in winscip or
the other machine. Kind of a bummer because I play with foobar and use
the SBS music files for that. Foobar lives on the old Dell and as I
mentioned, SAMBA worked fine with pcP 5.0 for this purpose. Not a real
issue though.

Have a great weekend.
