[vdr] Simultanous recording doesn't work
After upgrade of VDR I can't simultanously record from 2 different programs on DVB-T tuner. Even from the same MUX, and additionally I've got dual tuner. Log doesn't show any error, no conflicts. It probably work with sattelite channels, but not with DVB-T I also have DVB-T here and no such problems. Please try the attached patch. It was originally made to fix a problem with DVB-S, but maybe it also fixes your problem. I've changed to 5 and it only slowed down things, but slowly all of channels became OBSOLETE again. [vdr] Missing folders - VDR Live
VDR with VDR Live plugin on startup reads directoris tree of recordings. It do it in alphabethical order. When there is many directories with subdirectories (many recordings) it miss directories with starting letters from for example M. It is not nice, because those folders are presented during recording planning, and then I can't choose any folders starting with letter M or later. Is there any setting to set higher cache for those folders? Is there possibility to limit presented folders only to the highest level? I named my favourite folders with _ at the beginning to push them to the start, but VDR Live removes _ from the name - is it intentionally? [vdr] info file
Hello Would it be possible to somewhat generate nfo file automatically with each recording? I know vdrnfofs which do it on-the-fly and I imagine such file could be generated automatically (optionally) with each recording. It seems very easy, because such nfo contains only title and plot. The idea after it is that vdrnfofs doesn't allow editing of nfo, while such nfo generated automatically by VDR could be freely editable. And also it would be possible to download fanart etc to recording directory. I know VNSI and that it works well with XBMC (allows for quite good scraping) but I would prefer offline metadata. There are times when I work on VDR switching it off and then recordings are unavailable for XBMC. If hardware brokes - VDR even doesn't start complaining for lack of hardware. And I can't fine tune my nfo file when scraper do something ot fully or wrong. Maybe it's idea for new plugin? [vdr] Recording plan
Hello I would like to do/find some automation of choosing what to record from TV on VDR. In previous century :) it was newspaper I had to read and program recordings on my VCR. Now I have VDR, EPG, many web sites with movie descriptions and rankings, tracking sites like trakt.de etc. Hovewer I don't see it integrates well together. The closest is XMBC which hit PVR usable version. It can use trakt.de to mark what I watched, shows EPG and allow to plan recordings, It can scan recorded file in IMDB or similair and add it to library (probably, didn't do it yet). Hovewer I prefer to do such things from web or Android interface. And here is workflow i would like to use: 1) See EPG with good filtering capacity (for example show only movies) 2) Each movie is checked against watched library like trakt.de and marked accordingly 3) Each movie I didn't see needs to be find in IMDB or one of many others movie databases (main difficulty is languge of EPG which isn't english in my country so titles of movies are translated). Informations (and maybe rating) should be shown accordingly on EPG 4) Movie I like needs to be planned as recording in VDR I think all steps are already done, hovewer I didn't find them integrated. Web interface of VDR have some integration with IMDB only, but it works in another window when you click, it doesn't works good with EPG in other language then english. VDR doesn't integrate with trakt.de or some similair site. I don't even think it should be done on VDR side. I rather think about some software which works with different sources like this: a) source of EPG from XMLTV, PVR or maybe web site b) many different PVRs so I can plan recording on VDR and for example enigma based tuner c) different tracking sites d) different movie database site e) multiplatform interface (web site with lite version for Android etc?) I know it's beyond this mailing list but here are many people which probably needs something like this Marx ___ vdr mailing list vdr@linuxtv.org http://www.linuxtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/vdr
Re: [vdr] [DISCUSSION REQUEST] reintroduce a common make configuration file in VDR-1.7.35
I don't think arguing which userspace is bigger is so important. I'm rather silent user and use VDR a few years now. First I compiled it from scratch because there were no other option. Then I tried to use packages but failed. Packages were outdated, only a few plugins in repository. No good decription how to compile those missing myself. Next I used eTobi packages (fits Debian distro), yaVDR packages (Ubuntu based but usable on Debian). Now I use packages from Debian, compiling myself a few missing plugins and installing them manually. I agree that make;make install is behind most of us, linux users. And I like this change. Hovewer I wouldn't bash those who still use it, it's linux freedom. Personally I don't like digging /var/lib/vdr, /etc/default/vdr etc so I did symlinks to have all in one place, as it is in source installation. Hovewer I like running apt, U, g and after a while new VDR version is running with (almost) all plugins working. And I think it's the way to go. Geek can clone repositories, patch and compile VDR and plugins himself. It's the man who will dig mailing list, who will ask question. But casual user who needs only working application need stable working packages. He will not come here because he don't know what mailing list is. He probably doesn't know irc and will not create news account nor login to vdr portal (mainly in german language anyway). I also disagree with pointing at 1.6 as a stable release. Let's look at ftp://ftp.tvdr.de/vdr/ vdr-1.6.0.tar.bz2 Mar 23 2008 Do you really suuggest to use software released more then 4 years old? I understand that sometimes software isn't actively developed and so there is no developers to work on releases. Hovewer 1.7 is actively developed and has so many important changes that 1.6 is no longer usable. I'm not criticizing lack of new stable release, it's Klaus choice. Hovewer you shoudln't criticize people who try to use developer version - they have no option to use stable one because there is no such version which can be used (1.6 doesn't work with HD, right?). Re: [vdr] vdr on AllWinner A10, possible or madness?
I don't want to force my vision. I carefully read all news about such devices and I still feel they aren't ready to use it daily. Let's take your arguments calm: - energy efficiency - true, but computer with Celeron i'm talking about takes 50W. SoC takes probably 10W or less but difference is unimportant in term of cost even in long run - low cost - I can buy mainboard, CPU and RAM under 100€. SoC needs PSU and case too so costs are similair - footprint - if I understand correctly you means size. I agree SoC will be smaller, but ITX is also small - you need just a correct case. Taking Raspberry Pi as an example isn't quite good - under XBMC it's laggy, his weak CPU doesn't allow to decode less known file formats in software. You can't connect SATA, LAN is 100Mb only and so on. It runs XBMC but for me it's rather proof of concept, not for daily usage. So while it's possible to play x264 format via hardware decoding even on very cheap devices (50$ tablets, Rasberry etc), I don't think they are capable to be full featured HTPCs. As your needs and your HTPC grows, you will be crippled by your hardware. Hovewer if you want to make only media player you can do this on ARM, or better you can buy ready-made cheaply (having SMART on TV you even doesn't need to buy one - you just have it builtin). But I see HTPC as something more. My HTPC have five different tuners (DVB-T, DVB-S2, analog). It acts as video recorder using VDR and connects to TV via XBMC. But it also makes many other things like file sharing, file conversion, file downloading from net. It acts as network server, so for example I can use network interfaces of VDR or XBMC remotely from my phone. [vdr] VDR can't tune on 3.5 kernel
Hello I know it isn't probably supported but it doesn't hurt to ask. I use the newest kernel 3.5 with some experimental driver for pctv452e. Re: [vdr] RFE: Make VDR more friendly when using combinations of DVB-S, DVB-T and DVB-C
I like the idea of external channels database. There is well known kingofsat site which is always up-to-date and inspite of scanning it could be easier to simply import channels definition from it. It for example could allow to import only channels from selected provider. I imagine it could be done via external plugin, hovewer I don't know if plugin is allowed to overwrite channels list Marx ___ vdr mailing list vdr@linuxtv.org http://www.linuxtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/vdr

Re: [vdr] RFE: Make VDR more friendly when using combinations of DVB-S, DVB-T and DVB-C
I use VDR mainly via www frontends, but I agree that there is need to tell VDR what to do with channels from different tuners. For example detection of recordings collision doesn't take into account that channels are from two different sources (two different tuners). It also doesn't understand that it's possible to record simultanoesly from the same transponder. Vdr itself allow for all of it, but module which analyse collisions should be much more flexible. We also sometimes have the same channels in SD and HD which has different name but they differ only in quality. I can imagine that it should be easily possible to teach colision detection module that some devices can record at once, also that it's possible to record multiple streams form the same transponder. But it would be also great if we could virtually join some channels and tell recording module that they are the same channel, so they for example share EPG (it's possible now via plugins, I know). It should be possible to tell which one should be picked at first if we record from such virtual channel. Collision module should advice for example record from SD version of channel because it's on the same transponder that second recording we have planned or move this recording from DVB-S card to DVB-T card because DVB-S card records at the same time from another channel. I can give example: polish channel TVP 1 is available from Hotbird as (1) SD version, (2) HD version. It's also available in DVB-T as (3) SD version and (4) HD version. I have this channel also available in (5) old good analogue version. It's probably also available from Astra, and from local provider of DVB-C. [vdr] How to make bug report
Hello I have four DVB cards: DVB-S2: -Pinnacle PCTV SAT HDTV 452E PRO USB (main kernel support) -Terratec Cinergy S2 USB HD v.2 -Prof Revolution DVB-S2 8000 PCIe DVB-T: -AF9015 noname USB (main kernel support) on AMD Brazos platform (Asrock E350M1) with Debian (lately with 3.4 kernel). While I could be able to make all of them working via different drivers (media-build, patches, vendor drivers, Igor Liplianin's repo, yavdr dkms package etc) none of this card works stable (unlike Twinhan PCI I had previously). Prof hangs system, Pinnacle doesn't work with DVB-S2, Terratec records streams partially unplayable, AF9015 stops working after and hour or so etc. Often I see errors of I2C subsystem. While I'm in process of testing it on different hardware (laptop) I would like to know if it's good place to write about dvb drivers bugs. Or maybe should I write directly to developer? or write bugs in Debian/kernel bugzilla or sth similair? How to properly report bugs? What kernel should I use, which driverset? What logs to attach (kernel.log)? how to enable debug options (if needed)? I think it's rather unusual all of cards doesn't work, so I suspect that there can be something wrong with my system. On 11.06.2012 09:04, Klaus Schmidinger wrote: Now there is question: how should I define my channels? Well, for starters you could set Setup/DVB/Update channels to add new transponders in VDR's Setup menu. That should update your channels.conf as far as possible. Usually I use this option (as i remember it's 3 in setup.conf), but does it fix problem I had with scrambled flag? And it's not enough. What I read, only some transponders should be enough to make full scan because during scan more frequencies are broadcasted. It doesn't work for me. If i strictly don't define some transponders, they won't be recognized and scanned. When i scan without diseqc defined, all outputed channel definitions have 0.0E - is it possible to tell scan which sattelite I use? It contains pre-compiled amd64 modules for the currently valid kernel version of Ubuntu Precise. If you install it on a different environment (Debian or Ubuntu 32bit), all the modules will be re-built automatically and this take 10-30 minutes depending on your CPU power. Give it a try with an Ubuntu Precise installation to save time. Also use the patched dkms package from the yavdr repos. The upstream Ubuntu package dkms contains a bug that causes very slow de-installation of the linux-media-dkms package. I was using dkms from yavdr, but something went wrong. [vdr] Bad choices of USB cards
Hello I use VDR a few years, but lately I changed my system into ITX (AMD Brazos) and so changed PCI DVB-S2 card into USB. Additionaly I has bought DVB-T tuner. While buying hardware I was sure I buy hardware which is supported in-kernel, so no need to hunt for driver. Unfortunatelly every from three card I have doesn't work properly. The first: Terratec Cinergy S2 USB HD. Kernel has drivers, but only for the first revision. Second revision which I have need a patch. Patch is even on linux-media http://patchwork.linuxtv.org/patch/10294/ , but isn't finished so no hope to have it in kernel soon. Anyway I have applied it's modified version from http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=653026 to kernel 3.2 and it's almost work. Almost, because sometimes recording becames unplayable. Recording recors eveything, but I can play only some part of file from beginning. The rest is unplayable. Looking for something widely used I choosed Pinnacle PCTV SAT HDTV 452E PRO USB. Problems with it i've described in thread: [PATCH, RFC] STB0899 signal strength (pctv452e, others too?) The last miss was buying USB DVB-T stick based on Af9015. Generally it works, but only a few minutes. I suspect it overheats... So I ask: if somebody has one of cards above working, please give me a note with which kernel and with which driver it does work. Also I wold welcome advice, which from those rather cheap USB cards works without any problems on stock linux kernel. Marx Ps. Now I'm so desperated that I've installed 2.6 kernel and I will try Liplianin driver with it. Hovewer having 2.6 and 3.2 kernels installed together I don't know how to tell dkms to build only for 2.6 (in 3.x Liplianin kernel will not compile) ___ vdr mailing list vdr@linuxtv.org http://www.linuxtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/vdr

[vdr] VDR form packages
Hello I use Debian for years and to keep it clean I'm trying to use all software from packages. It generally works, hovewer I have problem with VDR, XBMC and drivers. Usually to have the newest driver I need to use some unstable version of VDR with the newest possible kernel. VDR in Debian is an option, hovewer it's usually behind the newest VDR, and number of plugins in repository is low. This lead to alternative repositories. I know two valuable: e-tobi and yavdr. I was using e-tobi but it lately isn't updated to the newest VDR. Yavdr is built on top of Ubuntu, and while it generally works on Debian, it's not recommended (some things doesn't work). So there is an option to build packages myself - really no option, because I have to make package manually for every plugin and for every new version of VDR. Any idea? Re: [vdr] VDR form packages
I'm not as good in writing scripts as you :) Do you install VDR from sources, or build debian packages? I know it's not so hard to build everything manually and in fact I did it many times. Hovewer packages in yavdr or e-tobi repositories were easier to install, and it was sure they will work together. Sometimes VDR or packages are patched to work better by maintainer of repo. I don't need to follow all git svn of all plugins and cope with some problems of compiling it myself, if somebody did it. I think it's better to use his work because it's better in it and additionally i test his work. Sometimes I'm in hurry to test some super new plugin. Aptitude, search, install, restart vdr and test - it gets a few minutes and afterall it's easy to unistall it too. And while new version of VDR is published, i simple aptitude, update and go - I have new version with all new plugins. That's why I like having VDR in packages. Knowing that Debian has master od VDR ;) in his team is very good info and I will try to stick with this version Marx ___ vdr mailing list vdr@linuxtv.org http://www.linuxtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/vdr

If they use VDR at home, how come they didn't know their epg was broken? VDR isn't as popular here in Poland as in Germany, so I doubt anyone in Cyfra+ know what VDR is. [vdr] Convert recording
Hello It's probably common use but I didn't find good info how to do that: I record movie. It needs to be cutted (advertisment etc) and than compressed from mpeg2 to divx (because this format is smaller and playable on almost everything). Then movie is moved to library which scans IMDB or similair services to download meta information. The goal is how to do that as most automatically as possible. For now it's rather long way: I convert .ts stream into mpeg2 (I forgot the name but it's software which allows cut file altogether, hovewer it's not user friendly becauses of small preview window), then convert it with some software (VirtualDub, Handbrake or ffmpeg), then rename and load into XBMC library. I know it's rather lously connected with VDR, hovewer I have idea of using VDR as main tool in this toolchain. First it knows from EPG metadata the name of movie, so it can find it in IMDB (in fact both web interfaces can do that now). Next it allows to cut recordings (hovewer I prefer doing it with keyboard) and sometimes automate ads removing. The last piece is converting which also is available via some external scripts. The problem is I would prefer doing it via web interface, because keyboard mouse is more productive than remote. I hoverwer didn't find possibility to start converting via web interface.
