The 1+ foot of snow that fell at my home (north of Woodland Park) brought in
a White-throated Sparrow. Seen just now at my feeders. It was hanging with a
bunch of Juncos (of various races).
That is a first for me in Teller County, let alone my home.

creek north and south of the lake) is a fee area ($6).
At my home feeder every day for the past month there are usually 60+
Cassin's Finches, 20+ Evening Grosbeaks; along with the other expected
fanfare.

Not bad for a little mountain lake. Missed on so many common birds that I
could have easily gotten over 60. No chickadees (mtn and black-capped),
nuthatches (pygmy and white-breasted), mourning dove, woodpeckers, coot,
pied-billed grebe, etc. Still a great day.

On another note, I tied my BIG DAY record at Manitou Lake on Sunday - 56
species. The former Big Day, was on the same date (May 18th) in 2010. 42
species in common between the two years, and 14 different species.

Just had my FOS band-tailed pigeon arrive today. Although this species is
irregular; at least a couple winters over the past 24 it seems to have
over-wintered - this is the usual arrival time for them in the spring.

on the white wing bars on this individual, but the web
has more than a few examples of juv HOLAs with buffy as well as white wing
bars held briefly in juv plumage. So - not a diagnostic field mark for
separation in this case.

uncommon along the areas of range overlap.
I don't have a lot of experience with hybrids, and there seems to be some
possibility that this could simply be a first-summer male rose-breasted. It
sure appears to be a black-headed from the breast up however.
