From the looks of it, at least 100 K3s are now on the
air.
A number of them have been through one or more of the
major contests. Several have been on DXpeditions.
There have been a couple construction related issues
posted and I've heard one has gone back to the factory
for a look see.

I've checked the bias voltages in TEST mode, both QRP and QRP, and
they're correct for all bands. So the fault is clearly not a logic one

I have had my hex-key for quite some time and have enjoyed it. I opened

breaking that contact, they are then 'floating in tension' and it gives
it a nice feel.

Everything has been plug and play up to this point. Ill have to sort

Hallo,
Does anyone know conclusively if the KUSB USB to serial adapter
listed on the Electaft website will work with a K2 and Vista?
Regarding USB adapters: there are several variables, including the
hardware and software of the computer, plus of course the adapter and
its drivers, etc.
I have been a happy builder/user of K3 for some week.
Experience is that this is a real Elecraft-product:
building was smooth; just according to the manual.
A few problems arose, but reading the manual again
corrected my own fault.
KUSB-cable did not work at all. This may be a question

Look for solderbridges or components that has no conection around the Low
pass filter and PA transistors. Specialy Q7 and Q8. It's easy to forget
soldering an pin on the relays.

The Big brown truck brought the big white box containing K3/100 and
accessories.
It was ordered April 30, 2007 and was delivered 12/13/2007. It works
beautifully.
Guys and Gals it was worth the wait!

Hi there K3 owners-in-waiting:
By this time, it must be crystal clear that the boyz in Aptos were
irrationally exuberant in their projections of how fast the K3 would
get out the door. It has recently been stated by the boyz that,
effectively, we don't know. That is the most honest statement
Ah - that suggests you bought a pre-build one?

I don't think that is right. The K2 cable was special in that they wired

Mojo? My K2 still has plenty of it! I am still amazed at the contacts I make
with it. Built in 1999, S/N 0539, is the stock (no mods), not revision B, 15w
capable QRP rig. It has never been in a SSB QSO, but does have the KSB2
module. I've toased finals twice and performs well at home, on
Yes, my K2's power output wasn't all that stable either. Power would
shift around by more than I was comfortable with. When I went to the
100 watt power module, I'd see power jump from 70 to 100 watts and back.
Turns out there is a side effect of the rig's design where the rig's

The resistor to change is R98 on the bottom of the RF board - increase
the value.
How much it can be increased varys from one K2 to another - it will
never be greater than 1500 ohms, but some K2s can only increase it by a
few hundred ohms.
The best way to find the correct value for your K2 is
Well, I received my K3/100 kit a few weeks ago. I bought it because of
its outstanding technical specifications. Granted, the specs were not
defined 100% at the time (last May) but the architecture of the rig spoke
volumes to me (I am an electrical engineer with RF design experience). I

Yea, I know, 10 watts. Or is it like the K2 where it gives 8 watts on
some bands and 15 on others? If so, what is it on 40 meters?

Hello everyone,
I have one-too-many rigs here at K0PQ, and I've decided to offer my QRP K2, S/N
1599, for sale to anyone on the list who might be interested in it. (My second
K2, S/N 5615, is a QRO rig with the KPA100 amplifier and external KAT100. It's
impossible for me to part with!)

I appreciate being able to fire up my K2 and enjoy
whatever HF operating suits the moment. I can't say
its clearly superior to other rig choices that could
be in my shack, but it is there, and I assembled it
myself. Original motivation was to experience the
build, and use it as a QRP supplement
Never had this happen with a Yaesu - never had the opportunity! Is there a
value that can be placed on choice? I'm glad Elecraft gave me a choice.

I have the 400 cycle 8 pole optional filter and was disappointed with
the latest firmware to see NR disabled below 500 cycle width settings.
My filter is in the FL2 position, so I went into the configuration and

The rating itself is 10 Watts. In practice, it's 12 Watts if the SWR
is reasonable. Seems to be the same on every band.

Kieth,
You state that like it has been a major problem with your K2.
If your K2 does not have greater than 10 watts on all bands, it needs
some attention.
Yes, the *maximum* K2 power will change from band to band because of the
gain vs. frequency characteristics of the active devices. In

I'd say it is a little on the low side, but

The firmware revision we're now testing allows noise reduction at all

We've been busy at Elecraft Engineering this week and we have just
placed new K3 firmware on the ftp site.
MCU: V 1.49
DSP: V 1.46
New Features:
Noise Reduction significantly improved. Also, NR can be used with narrow
filters in CW mode.
AM mode added. (6 kHz Filter required.)
