No, it's not an issue of what communications receivers do. The Orion

This is good news Lyle. I've been starting to enjoy what a great SWL
I'm seeing 4.1Khz max audio frequency on AM with my 6Khz roofing
filter. Perhaps Lyle is working a little magic?

I'd love an excuse to spring for a 13Khz roofing filter ;-)
The 13 KHz roofing filter
and run a spectrum analysis
program. Check for symmetry in the passband response around your sidetone
frequency (cw filters). Observe while varying the offset. A small amount
of asymmetry is no problem but it shouldn't be noticeably skewed to one
side. (set K3 dsp width=filter width)

Very interesting - looks like an 80hz signal from somewhere is mixing with
the fundamental.

. It
will attenuate the level of the cw signal as the passband moves away from
the sidetone frequency, but it won't change the pitch.

Dave, by max slope do you mean maximum or minimum setting of CONFIG: AGC
SLP? You'll get minimum compression with AGC SLP=0

The mushing has nothing to do with desensing and I don't think anybody
ever implied that it did. Several threads have gotten intermingled here.

for the weak station, I was consistently able to pick him out
under the loud station. It's amazing how quiet and clean the K3 sounds when
the gain is throttled in this manner.

I was going to suggest an LC filter for non-critical work. If Elecraft would
supply replacement carrier boards with the pin sockets either mounted or
available it would be nice.
Inrad has supplied these blank boards at a reasonable price ($10?) in the past
for various radios.

exactly as Evert describes.
Maybe, maybe not. Evert, can you please make a WAV recording while the sharp
metallic audio is present? Please email me a copy of the WAV file.

It would be nice if Elecraft could run the line in through the transmit audio
equalizer when in the ssb mode!

Line in audio DOES go through the K3 transmit audio equalizer.

If you really want great sounding ssb, turn off the AGC, turn on the AF
