Dear Belinda,
I am sitting here trying to hold back a deluge of tears
as am reading about your sweet, loving Bailey'sdecline in
condition. We have never met, but after being onthis sweet loving.
caring list forso long. you and Bailey, seem to be the inspiration
hope fort fomany guardians that are "fighting this
fight". True inspiratiom you have taught, "Never say never".
I have gained so much knowledge perspectiveabout this fateful,
tragic disease.

My entire whole perspective on this god-awful virus has changed
drastically. I know DO have hope that some day we will find a
cure...Due to dedication perseverance
with heartftelt thanks to Bailey and you, and the countless others
who have also went head on into battle with this disease, because of the undying
love for their furchildren,

I WILL continue tofight and pray for bothBailey and
you..The battle continues, but I pray for a peacedul ending. The toll it
has taken, both spiritually emotionally is just incredible.

I pray for the peace you both deserve so much..
I pray the Higher Power that be, will be able to realize that your Darling
Bailey and you have put up the hardest most sincere battle, and you BOTH
need your rest, in whatever form it is granted.

Belinda, I struggle as I write you this e-mail. It is ALL coming
directly from my (breaking) heart

I have ALWAYS believed in miracles and eternal life All bodies
are
simply vessels for our souls during their time on this earth The
vessel may perish, but the soul is ETERNAL.

Belinda, I will continue my prayersefor both you and Bailey. With such a
"special"bond, perhaps this will be a "TRUE" miracle.

Just be aware, mo matter what the outcome may be, Bailey will
always be with you,
eternally.
The soul will show itself to you time and time again, "when" the timing is
right. ad least expected..

This has been difficult to express, but words thoughts I had to
express. Due to my love admiration, for Bailey and you. A
very deep meaningful relationship...

Godspeed...
With my heatfelt thanks to be "includedon Bailey's
journey, and the precious gift of your widsom

BOTH irreplaceable gifts.

With ALL my love,
Patti

P.S, ~"Never say never". and always continue

aw, belinda, i'm sorry--have you asked him what he wants to do? tho you will never be ready for him to go, perhaps he is... hardest thing i ever have to do is give them permission to continue their journey wherever it takes them, and assure them that they don't need to stayto take care of me... (usually, they send me another cat to do that for them!)

Sorry to hear that Bailey is still not feeling all that great.

Thought not sure but since he is eating mostly liquid maybe he
doesn't have any thing to hold the poop in? There is no
consistence to hold it in? Not really sure. Can you give him
something maybe to help bind him?

I know that Blackberry tea is good for the runs and
constipation. On the holistic group some told me that. Maybe
try that if you can only get liquid into him.

Potato water maybe would have the starchy hold for him.

Not can not give any input on the medicines don't know anything
about leukeran.

Sending healing vibes, thoughts and prayers Baileys way.

hugs
Carla

CLS for Orange Julius (OJ)

2006-02-03 Thread Tad Burnett

Little OJ has gone to be with his best kitty friends Winky and Callie...
Those 3 seemed to be close friends when they arrived here from
Angel Wings and now they are all back together at the Rainbow Bridge..

Last Tuesday (Feb. 2,2006) we took OJ to the vet... He cried when
we picked him up refused to take any food from his syringe...
The vet said his cancer on his kidney had grown huge suddenly and
he was in pain and it was time to let him go...

It was so hard because he seemed to love life and everyone around
him so much...He sat on the table and watched the doc prepare his needle
with intense interest and he purred for the tech as she shaved his leg and
the needle was inserted...

Little OJ was the kitty from the Angel Wings rescue that when they
1st examined him at the vets in Tenn. he just flopped on his side...
At 1st they thought he was too week to stand up but then they realized
it was because he was so happy to have human touch again...

The 1st night he was here and I had him in the introduction cage in the
room with all my cats...When he saw me get in bed he cried and cried
and looked like he wanted to join me...He had seemed so friendly with
everyone that I gave in and opened the door and sure enough he made a
be line for the bed and he has been there right next to me every night
since..

The FeLV must have already destroyed most of his immune system when
he arrived here as he had to constantly be on antibiotics to keep URI
under control and at 1st he would sneeze blood and that was from
the URI had gotten into the hair bones in his nose... A strong antibiotic
did take care of that...

Because of his chronic URI he never had much appetite and we always
gave him special attention to get him to eat...
I know he missed Winky...He was only here for a few weeks...
Winky just went to sleep and didn't wake up...He was very anemic
and a bad heart... It was after that that OJ started loosing weight...
We gave him special food and he was doing better and then Callie
passed...It was right after that that he started peeing outside his box
and we had him tested but nothing showed except that his urine was
watery and we gave him something to make it a little more acid incase
he was getting crystals build up... He seemed better for a while and
put a little weight back on but then he started to eat less again but he
took

his A/D food without complaining from a syringe...With that it seemed like
he was getting but he was getting skinnyer and skinnyer and we knew it
was cancer taking him away

I miss my supper friendly little orange kitty and I do hope I will get to be
with him again some day.

Sleep well sweet OJ

Aww Tad, such a sweet little Angel. I could just see him making that

so much, they must have been calling to him. He probably stuck around
as long as he did to bask, just a little bit longer, in your love. Now
he's surrounded by love. I can only imagine how immense your's and

What a glorious reunion it will be the day you join all those that wait

Re: Bandy has an eye infection

2006-02-03 Thread Lernermichelle

Kerry,
The hazy spot does sound like uveitis to me, but that is
the only eye condition I have experience with so it is possible that it is
a symptom of other things that I don't know about too. So who knows if I
am right or not.

Buddy was on oral pred also, but that was because he had
either lymphoma or FIP and was terminally ill. He was on a lot of steroids
(dex and depo eventually) his last few months. Whether they helped with his eye
or not, I don't know. I think that prednisolone eye drops helped the
most-- definitely more than the ointment did. But he was only supposed to
get those drops short-term and when I stopped them the cloudiness increased
again, so I went back to using them again even though I was not supposed to,
because it kept him more comfortable and he did not have much time left. I
think you need to be more careful with Bandy, because hopefully he does not have
a terminal condition right now and will be around long enough that bad effects
of meds could catch up with him. But you might want to ask about
prednisolone drops for a few days (I think it was for 10 days or something like
that).

When I said to watch the other eye, I just meant to look
at it closely every day and if he gets any symptoms in it to talk to the vet
right away about treating it. There are so many things that can cause a
runny eye in a cat that it might seem normal to take a wait and see approach if
it is not bothering him, but if he does have uveitis you want to make sure you
treat right away. However, I don't mean to make you feel panicked about
it. I have this feeling mostly from Pepsi, my horse, because she lost her sight
in that eye due to her uveitis going undiagnosed and untreated for too
long. But I am pretty sure the uveitis affects horses more quickly than it
does cats-- they call it "moon blindness" in horses because it tends to come on
quickly and cause blindness.

Did you so an internet search on feline uveitis? You
might find some info that way that could help you figure out if it is what he
has, and if so info on treating it.

Good luck,
Michelle

anymore and hasn't really since I started the meds, but in the bottom of it
inside the eye ball itself is a hazy spot...She didn't call it uveitis either,
but I didn't know to ask that at the time either...she has an eye chart in the
exam room and his eye didn't look like any of them...there were more than 20
different kitty eye disorders on that chart...Also, the first day his eye
wouldn't dilate either and now it does and just has that spot (which looks
like it is inside the eye ball). It is sorta brownish/grey...He is playing and
eating good again...only that one day was he out of it, but his temp was up,
too..Wonder if I should give him about 10 days of pred, too? 5mg
for 5 days then 2.5 mg for another 5 days..as I did read about this after you
mentioned it to me...and it did say in some places that oral steroids were
needed on occasion...just wondering if you did this, too..
I know it is another mystery in Bandy's situation...
I am giving him 500 to 1000mg of lysine a day now, too...should have done
that all along, but just didn't know it..Since the other kitties eat with him,
I figured it would be good for them as well...they are all on the same
supplements since they do eat together...Little Rascal needs his heart supps.
so most of the same can be used for both him and Bandy..
Let me know what you think.

But you can also pill lysine -- the pills are so big that I could not believe

I do have a pretty good feeling that the moratorium on the 10% should
pass - just because no one could explain how they came up with it, and
the city attorney also agreed that it's a silly rule... I was actually
reading the transcript from my hearing, and towards the end, he actually
stipulated to the fact that the pet limit law isn't effective way to
control the problems among the irregular ownership -- my main concern is
that I don't know if I want a permit or not - currently if you do get a
permit, you are also agreeing to let them in your house without any
advance notice and I refuse to let anyone in without any appointment in
advance - I have had so much bad experience with them, and I don't trust
them.. so.. I am not sure what I will do and what options I have -- I
think I want to continue with appeal in case the city councilor does not
agree with taking out the limit law, which is a good possibility to me.

in on pending right now .. and he dismissed these climes. But I am
soo scared that what this woman (Camille) is going to do to hurt me and hurt
my cats she does not even live in this area anymore.. but she is so
obsessed to hurt me. Making a false report is a felony and my criminal
lawyer suggests that I write her a letter warning that I will file a law suit
if she does not stop --- I also have to now deal with this mean neighborhood
association guy as to why he made a false report (how in the heck he came up
with the fact that I have over 100 cats even if I did, there is no way
that he can see them they are all indoor kitties --)

God, Belinda, I am so sorry to hear this. I have thought about him
often. It does sound like there is cancer somewhere in him. Lymphoma
can be hard to find, though. They can do a full-body x-ray, or they can try the
first drug in the chemo series (starts with an E and is a shot with no side
effects, just kills lymphoma, can't remember the name of it) to see if he
responds to it. You might ask about trying that.

I think at this point I might try giving him a dex/depo combination
shot. I thought it was wise not to do such strong steroids when he seemed
to be responding to the Epogen and other drugs and was given a 6 months+
prognosis. But he does not sound well. I think that I would try either the
chemo drug I referenced above (it really does not do anything but kill
lymphoma-- it is specfic to the lymphoma cells) and/or a combo shot of 1/2 cc
dex and 1/2 cc depo and see if they help. Those steroids help them feel
better with a lot of conditions, but if it is lymphoma the steroids will also
shrink it for a while. Mostly, though, I would just do it to make him feel
better.

I am so sorry that he and you are going through this.

Belinda, a bunch of people have said maybe it is time for Bailey to
go. I did not get the impression from your post that you are there yet,
but I have my own feelings about such things which might make me interpret
things differently. I just want to say that if you are there, I hope you will
try the steroid shots first to see if they make him feel better. Simon got
a good month from getting those shots (which then enabled him to get more chemo,
which probably also helped) and went from almost dead to running around and
literally climbing up a wall into the ceiling one day. I am not saying that
would necessarily happen with Bailey, but I always feel that if a cat is at the
point that euthanasia is being considered, then what is the downside of trying
the steroids to see if it will give them more quality time. Anyway, I did
not think you were there yet anyway, but just wanted to add that.

My heart goes all out to him and you. He will be in my thoughts and prayers. I know it is hard on you.
If his time is near at least you will be with him. It sounds like he is barely hanging on. You have been a wonderful Mom to him.
He has been a poster furbaby for this group. I have read over the course of time about him since I joined back in 2000 I think.

Ending (?) of my disaster withe the neighbor

2006-02-03 Thread Hideyo Yamamoto

This is a bit strange ending but heres what
happened with the neighborhood guy (VP of the neighborhood association guy,
Jason) who made a false report on me to the animal control on behalf of my
immediate neighbor who did not have guts to admit himself

Greg had already talked to one of his friends, Bill who is
also on the board of the neighborhood association a couple nights ago and asked
him to give him a call if Jason guy ever bring it up to my situation at the board
meeting. So, Bill called Greg this morning and they had a meeting last
night and he did bring my stuff up and heres what happened.

Jason said that I had 30 to 100 cats and he is frustrated
because Animal control is not doing anything about it and he asked the board if
they want to try to do something about it. And none of the rest of the
board members did not feel that my situation or property were any issues
whatsoever, so they all disagreed with Jason and did not want to do anything
about it so he got even more frustrated, and he resigned the position as
VP and blamed it on me - So, Bill called to thank me because everyone
hated him, now because of me, he resigned the position. And they are
grateful. How funny, huh?

He also complained to them that I terrorized his wife when I
came over to his house, which is a complete lie I just went over to his
house and talked to his wife since he was not home and , I asked his wife if I
could leave my phone number and that was all it and his wife was
actually very sweet - and it was a short but pleasant conversation (they
had a cat, and I even complimented on their cat how cute he was..) Greg
and I think he needs some heavy medication if he is not already because he
obviously has a way of seeing things very differently from what happened (when
we went to knock the door, he also said that we were terrorizing and banging
the door and called the police..) Anyway, no one really believed what
Jason said and I think he was also frustrated about it as well.. so now he is
not even on the board.. I hope he does not try to do anything further to my
cats thats all I am worried about but for now,, things
turned out this way.. strange, but I am not complaining J

I understand not wanting to agree to allowing impromptu inspections of
your property, but if a permit would protect your right to keep your

You could always just not answer the door when/if they show up

If they revoked a permit you could challenge that in court, and have the
fight be about that.

I understand your fear based on what happened to your friend. That is truly
horrible. I wonder if, based on this having happened, you can get
something in writing with the permit, like they can show up unannounced but can
only enter if you are there and must allow you to open and close all doors in
order to prevent your cats from getting outside, etc.

Belinda,

Dexamethasone and Depomedrol are much more powerful than
prednisolone. Buddy, Josephine, and Simon were all on pred initially (Jo
and Buddy at 20 mg/day for a while), but it did not make anywhere near the kind
of difference as the dex/depo shots did. I believe the same was true for
Jen's Ewok. I would try them. I seriously would also ask to try the first
of the chemo drugs, again can not remember the name but starts with E, because
it can not hurt, I do not think, and if it helps you will know it is probably
lymphoma and can treat as such.

No, Simon did not waste away much. He started to, but
when he rebounded from the steroids and chemo he actually started gaining
weight. But he had multicentric lymphoma in his bone marrow and liver, and it
did not really affect his appetite accept when he was jaundiced, and did not
cause much muscle wasting either. Jo and Buddy both had terrible weight loss and
muscle wasting. Jo had lymphoma in her kidneys and intestines. Buddy was never
definitively diagnosed-- he had no masses anywhere, and at the time I did not
know how to humanely go about finding if there was cancer in any of his organs,
so we just treated him with steroids. In the beginning Buddy was actually eating
normally but still losing weight.

Little OJ has gone to be with his best kitty friends Winky and
Callie...Those 3 seemed to be close friends when they arrived here
fromAngel Wings and now they are all back together at the Rainbow
Bridge..Last Tuesday (Feb. 2,2006) we took OJ to the vet... He
cried whenwe picked him up refused to take any food from his
syringe...The vet said his cancer on his kidney had grown huge suddenly
andhe was in pain and it was time to let him go... It
was so hard because he seemed to love life and everyone aroundhim so
much...He sat on the table and watched the doc prepare his needlewith
intense interest and he purred for the tech as she shaved his leg andthe
needle was inserted... Little OJ was the kitty from the
Angel Wings rescue that when they1st examined him at the vets in Tenn. he
just flopped on his side...At 1st they thought he was too week to stand up
but then they realizedit was because he was so happy to have human touch
again... The 1st night he was here and I had him in the
introduction cage in theroom with all my cats...When he saw me get in bed
he cried and criedand looked like he wanted to join me...He had seemed so
friendly witheveryone that I gave in and opened the door and sure enough
he made abe line for the bed and he has been there right next to me every
nightsince.. The FeLV must have already destroyed most
of his immune system whenhe arrived here as he had to constantly be on
antibiotics to keep URIunder control and at 1st he would sneeze blood and
that was fromthe URI had gotten into the hair bones in his nose... A
strong antibioticdid take care of that... Because of
his chronic URI he never had much appetite and we alwaysgave him
special attention to get him to eat...I know he missed Winky...He
was only here for a few weeks...Winky just went to sleep and didn't wake
up...He was very anemicand a bad heart... It was after that that OJ
started loosing weight...We gave him special food and he was doing better
and then Calliepassed...It was right after that that he started peeing
outside his boxand we had him tested but nothing showed except that his
urine waswatery and we gave him something to make it a little more acid
incasehe was getting crystals build up... He seemed better for a while
andput a little weight back on but then he started to eat less again but
he tookhis A/D food without complaining from a syringe...With
that it seemed likehe was getting but he was getting skinnyer and skinnyer
and we knew itwas cancer taking him awayI miss my supper
friendly little orange kitty and I do hope I will get to bewith him again
  some day.Sleep well sweet

Re: Belinda--Elspar

2006-02-03 Thread jenmeyer
I think Elspar is the one Michelle is thinking of! Ewok did well on
that one and Ceenu or CCNU when the other chemo drugs stopped working.
But I believe the oncologist started him on Elspar first thing just to
get the tumor to shrink and then we started the regular protocol.
You'll know pretty quickly if it works or not...and if it doesn't, I
would definitely do the steroid combo that Michelle suggested...it works
unbelievably fast and gave Ewok a good week in between treatments (and
he was close to the end)!

 Belinda,

Dexamethasone and Depomedrol are much more powerful than
 prednisolone.
Buddy, Josephine, and Simon were all on pred initially (Jo and
 Buddy at 20
mg/day for a while), but it did not make anywhere near the kind of
 difference
as the dex/depo shots did. I believe the same was true for Jen's
 Ewok. I
would try them. I seriously would also ask to try the first of
 the chemo drugs,
again can not remember the name but starts with E, because it can
 not hurt, I
do not think, and if it helps you will know it is probably
 lymphoma and can
 treat as such.

No, Simon did not waste away much. He started to, but when he
 rebounded
from the steroids and chemo he actually started gaining weight.
 But he had
multicentric lymphoma in his bone marrow and liver, and it did not
 really
affect his appetite accept when he was jaundiced, and did not
 cause much muscle
wasting either. Jo and Buddy both had terrible weight loss and
 muscle wasting.
Jo had lymphoma in her kidneys and intestines. Buddy was never
 definitively
diagnosed-- he had no masses anywhere, and at the time I did not
 know how to
humanely go about finding if there was cancer in any of his organs,
 so we just
treated him with steroids. In the beginning Buddy was actually
 eating
 normally but still losing weight.

 Hi Michelle,
No it isn't time for considering letting him go, I just don't know
what else we can try, the prdnisolone is the thing that is suppose
 to
help with this anemia and from what I can tell so far it isn't.
 he did
just get over the diarrhea yesterday so he had that for a long,
 long
time and I'm sure that has really drained him. It's the shape his
 body
seems to be in that really has me worried. Every cat I have ever
 had
get cancer looked exactly like this, bony even when getting enough
 food
and acting fairly normal, Buddie was like this when she had cancer
 and
she was having a very good quality of life, just bony.

He has no energy although he is out in the room, instead of laying
 in
the carrier all the time. He has been out in the open since
 yesterday
and coincidentally also when the diarrhea was for the most part
 gone (he
had one bowel movement that was mostly solid but had some runny at
 the
end of it yesterday or this morning, I can't even remember). HIs
 bottom
is still alittle red and inflamed but so much better than it was.
 He
gets his epogen tonight which will make 4 complete weeks.

Was Simon wasting away, in the photos he looked pretty good?

I totally understand how you are feeling and I completely agree with you,
but you can not let that feeling dictate how you act right now. The point
right now is not to show them what jerks they are, but to protect your
cats. Your decisions about what to do need to be based on what is least
risky for your cats and yourself, not what has the most chance to show the city
that they are wrong. If you make decisions based on what is least risky, you may
still be able to get everything you want, by getting rid of the city's claims
against you and then getting the city council to get rid of the limit law, which
would mean no permits necessary and no inspections. You do not want to let your
anger make you do something that has a bigger risk of losing, like going to
court. If you can resolve something outside of court, you should do it
because the result is more certain. You never know what will happen in court. As
angry as you are now, I think you will feel worse if you go through a court case
when you do not have to and the judge says everything the city is doing is fine.

From the very

the truth, they are NOT – they are not doing anything to help my situation
personally – if they are not seizing my cats, it’s because they can’t do so
legally based on what the laws currently allows or don’t allow (the law allows
to take a custody of animals only when their safety and welfare is at risk),
but not because they are trying to be nice to me.. but they are claiming so,
and it makes me sick! If they are going to put 10% monitraum on the
ordinance, it’s because they just realized how stupid it is and it does not
make sense to anyone who has a bit piece of brain, and not because they are
trying to do me a favor. I had asked so many different people in the
city to help me out to bend the rule before it came to this far, and none of
them went beyond of anything to help my situation out --- they all basically
said.. well – that’s the law, sorry, there’s nothing we can do --- so I
guess I am feeling a bit rebellious against them, because they keep telling me
that I should be grateful – for what??? Not for killing my healthy, well loved
and taken care of cats?? - the word “permit’ itself makes me feel sick
--- I just don’t feel like I need their permission – I know this might not be
the most politically smart way of thinking.. I am just so mad and bitter with
  them for twisting everything -

Tad:

My heartfelt prayers and condolences for the loss of OJ. (I too had a special one named Orange Julius and hearing of your loss reminded me of the beautiful bond we shared and how sad his crossing was).

I am so glad that you listened to your heart and let him spend the nights with you. I know from his reaction that at one time he had had that special bond and was so happy to have had the opportunity before he crossed to shareit with someone who loved him again. Telling us that touched my heart so deeply. We all know that we should quarantine for the safety of the others, but sometimes we have to disregard logic and listen with our hearts as you did.

It also sounds like as much as OJ wanted to be here with you and tried so hard, his body had taken too much abuse and since his heart was deeplyintertwined with the companions who had gone before him, he wanted to be with them again. I know that he loved you and that you loved him, but he needed to go to be with his friends where they and allyour other special angels will wait for you.

Tad, you are a very special person. You opened your home and your hearts to the babies from Angel Wings knowing that you wouldmore than likely painfully say goodbye tosome of these babies too soon. Your love was the first that many had known in a verylong time, if ever, and you gave them your final gift of love - a gentle, peaceful, dignified crossing.

My prayers to give you strength to continue your good work. The babies need you.

Run with the wind Angel Orange Julius..
