[Felvtalk] kitten needs a home....in new york area
Hi,Yet another kitten needs a home, female, 4 months old, diluted calico, very sweet, spayed, vaxed, currently living at the briarcliff spca, but will spend the rest of her life in a cage if she doesnt find a home. She is currently on meds, she had pneumonia but is doing very well. She was a bottle baby in a foster home and came back to the shelter and tested positive on the elisa. I took home the litter mate, but could not take her home due to her sickness and i only could add one more cat to my family. So would love to see her live her life in a home. Any questions please feel free to contact me:)thanksjenijrock...@hotmail.com > Date: Thu, 10 Sep 2009 09:07:24 -0500 > From: jb...@tds.net > To: felvtalk@felineleukemia.org > Subject: Re: [Felvtalk] (no subject) > > Sally, > > I hope this gets to you. [Felvtalk] two feluk positive adult cats looking for a home...anyone?
Hi, Posting this for a friend that works at the shelter, all the information is listed below. You can always email me if you have any questions, and I could find the answers out or contact the SPCA of Westchester. Hoping someone wants to open thier heart and home to these kitties!! Any help is much appreciated!!! Thank you so much for all of the information. Here is the information on the kitties... PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help get the word out for them... and post wherever you see fit. I trust you 100% and would hate for them to go someplace cruddy. Okay So their names are Piggy and Peeps. They are currently living at the SPCA of Westchester in Briarcliff Manor, NY. Their adoption numbers are 2116A and 2217A. They have lived together since they were 2 days old. They are both beautiful domestic long-hair females and originally adopted from the SPCA when they were kittens (almost 7 years ago!) Unfortunately, they were returned as the family who originally adopted them could not care for them anymore. They are big mushes and have lived in homes with kids. They don't really like being in a cage, but because they are FeLV + and the shelter has limited space, they don't get much free time out to play and stretch. They are listed on Petfinder under the SPCA of Westchester's adoptable pets. The contact information for their adoption is: SPCA of Westchester Briarcliff Manor, NY 914-941-2896 x22 l...@spca914.org They are both spayed and currently up to date on vaccines. Any help you can give to getting them placed would be appreciated. thanks Jeni jrock...@hotmail.com _ With Windows Live, you can organize, edit, and share your photos. http://www.windowslive.com/Desktop/PhotoGallery ___ Felvtalk mailing list Felvtalk@felineleukemia.org http://felineleukemia.org/mailman/listinfo/felvtalk_felineleukemia.org

you could try angel's gate, they have a place in long island, but also one in upstate near delhi (they were willing to take a feluk cat I was trying to find a home for, but in the end I kept him due to medical issues and anxiety) that was about two years ago so I dont know if they are still up and running. I emailed them through their website. Re: [Felvtalk] (no subject)
you could ask for two references, two people that know them and can just tell you a little about them, you can ask about their pet history and verify it with the references. A vet reference is great, unless it's their first time owning a cat. Someone did adopt two kittens from me on this list, they gave me a vet name and number and just talking with them and getting a good feeling about it, I knew the cats were going to be fine. They were too far to check out the living arrangements, but they kept in touch with me and sent me pictures. good luck!jeni > Date: Thu, 30 Jul 2009 21:40:41 -0400 > From: tadburn...@vermontel.net > To: felvtalk@felineleukemia.org > Subject: Re: [Felvtalk] (no subject) > > Check with his vet > Anyone adopting an FeLV+ cat had best be on a first name > basis with a vet > Will the adopter allow you or someone you know to see how the > cats will be living ??? > And are they willing to answer all your questions ??? > > Yes... Hi, There is a male felv positive cat (tested positive on IFA and elisa) that needs a home. I work for a shelter and they do not adopt out felv positive cats and give me a week to find a home or place for them. I am currently away in france until the 7th but asked if the vet if he could stay there until I came back, finding out the answer tomorrow. From what I they emailed me he is male, 1-2 years old and very sweet. He is getting neutered tomorrow. Any takers will find a way to get him anywhere. Currently he is in new york out on long island. thanks very much Jeni jrock...@hotmail (i currently live in a very small house with two felv positive cats, three dogs and a 10 week old infant...i think it would be a bit too much to take on another cat...thanks) > Date: Wed, 25 Feb 2009 13:02:58 -0800 > From: stylin72...@yahoo.com > To: felvtalk@felineleukemia.org > Subject: [Felvtalk] Adoption > > I have a stray cat that looks completely healthy. Re: [Felvtalk] HELP!
Hi Julie, I live in new york and work for a shelter and am faced with the same situation here and there. Unfortunately I can not take any, I have four in my house and seeking a permanent place for one of them. I do recommend checking out angel's gate, they have a place in delhi and were willing to take one of my feluk cats I was seeking a home for about a year ago. My vet convinced me to keep him, so he stayed. They were really nice. I forgot their email address but if I come across it I will email it to you. I would also check out bemikitties, you can post them on there for adoption. I would also post them on craigslist, I know that is not the perfect place but you never know. If I hear of anyone that wants any feluks I will let you know. Good luck, I know it can be frustrating and heart breaking but so far knock on wood I have found homes for all of my feluks fosters (even though most of them ended up with me!) seeking a home for feluk positive kitten
Hi, Seeking a home for a 6 week old kitten (tested twice positive on elisa and IFA). I just took in a kitten that is positive (i have two at home, besides the new one) and do not have room for another. I have a week to find it a home, trying to get an extension, because I am going away starting the 5th to the 15th. Anyone out there willing to help save a kittens life? I know you all must have your hands full, but any help would be much appreciated. Located in Long Island, NY. Sorry I don't know if it is a boy or a girl right now. RE: Felvtalk Digest, Vol 36, Issue 11
Our cat that was a feral found a nice hiding place inside our wall. She was very trap savvy you could say and we couldnt trap her...until I put a piece of cardboard on the bottom of the trap to cover the wire cage. She went in and got trapped and we got her out of the wall. It might help, cause they might not like the feel of the wire bottom on the cage under thier feet. good luck jeni > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: Felvtalk Digest, Vol 36, Issue 11 > To: felvtalk@felineleukemia.org > Date: Tue, 8 Jan 2008 22:38:00 -0500 > > Send Felvtalk mailing list submissions to >felvtalk@felineleukemia.org > > To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit > > http://mail.felineleukemia.org/mailman/listinfo/felvtalk_felineleukemia.org > > or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to >[EMAIL PROTECTED] > > You can reach the person managing the list at >[EMAIL PROTECTED] > > When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific > than "Re: Contents of Felvtalk digest..." > > > Today's Topics: > >1. re: placement of three feluk positive kittens
Hi, Thank you Tad for your kind words, and yes you have my situation right. Ideally I would love to find placement for them all together in a home without cats, because there is a slight chance they could not be feluk positive at all. But I don't know anyone that could possibly do this that I know and I can't. I could hold them for a week or so but need placement. They are a bit more under socialized then I was told, hissies little kitties. Right now one of them threw up and they have diarreha(sp?) so off to the vet this week and will have them checked out. Any suggestion or help is highly appreciated. Thank you thanks again Tad, hope all the kitties are doing well. _ News, entertainment and everything you care about at Live.com. seeking placement for three feluk positive kittens
Hi, Just when I found placement for the adult feluk positive, now three kittens need placement. The woman was going to take them to the vet to pts them, but I told her I would take them and find a home for them. They are about 8-9 weeks old and tested positive yesterday. Need help yet again. They are tabbys and very cute. I am picking them up from the lady today, I don't know if they are boys are or girls yet. I know they are a little scared, she found them in her backyard. There are actually five, but I can't take all five. She might try to find a home for the other two. Anyone out there want one, two or three kittens to add to their home. Willing to travel, food included, will spay/neutered them. seeking home for adult feluk positive cat - family doesn't care about him
Hi, Seeking home for an adult feluk positive cat (this is not my cat). Male, neutered, grey and white, 4 year old cat named scooter. Family especially the wife wants to get rid of cat. Cat has been living mostly outdoors, due to the fact he doesn't always use his litter box, though has been using it since the wife sent the rug out for a cleaning. Wife doesn't like the cat and doesn't really care for it. Tested positive on elisa and IFA. Urine tested and nothing unusal, possibly behavioral problemn (with rug? the wife will not listen to suggestions). Will bring cat to the vet for blood test and another wellness check before giving him to a new home. He needs someone to finally love him and care for him. Very nice cat. Willing to travel, food, toys and carrier will be included with him. He lives in the new york area. Any help is greatly appreciated. Have contacted other rescues and sanctuaries but no response. She has been here with me for 2 years.. She is probably about 5 years old... She has been healthy all the time she was here and enjoyed her life here with Marie and myself and all the other cats... She has been especially close to my feral cat who was just starting to tame when jet came here... Jet most often slept curled up next to me and that's where she was tonight when I felt those now all to familiar little muscle contractions that signals when life has left the body on this earth... I knew her time was coming about a month ago when she started acting like an older cat and slowed down sum but even tonight she was eating but she had been acting quite weak today and only an hour before she passed was the 1st time that she wasn't able to stand up and walk... Hopefully the girls, will like him when they get a formally introduction. Poor guy has to live in my bathroom right now. And now on to a plea I might have to find homes for possibly 4 kittens, right now they are only three weeks old but only one tested positive on the snap and IFA and needs a home. I am willing to foster until 8 weeks old, but can not keep...she is really really cute...tabby and white. The other three her litter mates did not test positive on the snap and so are going to be re-tested in july and hopefully they do not test positive, but if they do then they will need homes too. Anyone out there want to help...willing to travel and will supply food and liter box and carrier. If need a longer fostering then I can do that, but not too long. My husband has been a saint, but I think the cat I just brought in, will be the cat that broke the camels back (my husband's back) and I can not keep another one. Please help, I know it's easier to adopt out babies then adults. In the new york area...please email me with any questions or suggestions! RE: To Kelley: Re: OT: To shelter owners/volunteers-your opinion neededon site visit for Maltese shelter
Hi Kelley, Maybe you should inquire with them if they have a back up plan if the city does try to inforce thier pet limit law, like what are they going to do with the animals. The only thing I think of is that you wouldnt want to place an animal in a home and maybe that animal is the breaking point for a neighbor, plus people are very fickle (we are not allowed to park in our driveway, we live in a city, because a neighbor complained and called the city and our drive way is not up to code because it doesnt have a cut out at the front of the drive..go figure!) but at the same time we are over our limit of animals and luckily nobody has complained (cross my fingers!) It is a fine line as you want to place the animal in the best home possible and they may be it, but at the same time you wouldnt want anything to happen to that animal, and also you wouldnt want the shelter to get in trouble for knowing that person was over thier limit and still placed an animal in thier home. good luck Jeni From: wendy <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: To Kelley: Re: OT: To shelter owners/volunteers-your opinion neededon site visit for Maltese shelter Date: Fri, 13 Apr 2007 10:40:40 -0700 (PDT) Hey Kelley, Well, I am definitely in violation of city codes...lol. So I have no judgement to make. I just didn't know if there were certain written or un-written rules that shelters follow when it comes to that particular issue. The contract does ask how many animals live in the home, so I know it's a factor. I'll be interested to hear what the shelter owner decides to do. She's in Austin too. RE: sweet kitty in sw Michigan needs help
I hope you find a wonderful home for her. Another reason that being a black cat is a strike against her, is everybody over looks a black cat. They find calicos, orange, and white cats more interesting and want a "prettier" cat (I personally think black cats are beautiful), that is why a lot of black dogs are over looked in a shelter too. I hope you find her a home or who belongs to her. I love black cats. My Thomaseena was black and lived to be about 18 years old. I grew up with her. When she died I lost my best friend. My diabetic cat (Katie) is black and she holds a very special place in my heart. Is someone taking care of her until then? Did you say she was declawed? It isn't cheap to have a kitty declawed. possibly looking for homes for two feluk positive cats..not a double
Hi, two feluk positive cats that need forever homes... One cat had a possible home, but I don't think the person wants him anymore, he is a tabby and white male, neutered, 6 months old and very very sweet...his sister was feluk positive and was very sick, had to be put to sleep. He was negative on his tests at first, retested and came out positive Other cat is a male, black and white cutie, I think around a year or two. I have to check on the age. He tested positive on the IFA(in house test?) and still pending Elisa (out of house test?, I get them mixed up), but most likely will need a forever home. Rescued from a kill shelter. I am hoping to get pictures and put them up. I am thinking of trying to take one, but I can not take both into my home. Trying to convince my husband, he is very upset about Hillman Waller. Please add Hillman Waller to cls
Hi, We had to put Hillman Waller to sleep last night, it was a hard decision but best for him. He was a 1.5 years and was the sweetest cat ever! Positive as a kitten and also developed lymphosarcoma, but even with the surgery that took out most of it near his throat, we think it came back. He went into respiratory failure last night. But I take comfort in knowing not only is he with all the wonderful feluk kitties that have passed on, he is also with Papoose, that we lost last may. Jeni _ Exercise your brain! hypothethical question....
Hi, I was discussing feluk and feluk exposed cats and someone asked me this question and what would I do, I still am thinking of the answer, and was curious what other people would answer; question: feluk exposed cat 6 months, that was neg on ifa and elisa, but liter mate was postive on both tests, and then seperated, after being together for 6 months. would you feel that it was ethical to place the cat up for adoption with no mention of the cat being feluk exposed or do you feel it is your ethical duty to let the adopter know that it was exposed to feluk(also take into consideration that the cat might be up for adoption a long time, since a lot of people shy away from feluk) and also if placing with a rescue, telling or not and also if telling they wouldn't take the cat? I was curious what other people would do... Thanks Jeni _ Exercise your brain! Try Flexicon. http://games.msn.com/en/flexicon/default.htm?icid=flexicon_hmemailtaglinemarch07

Because it doesn't sound like you did. FIP is NOT CONTAGIOUS. Corona virus is contagious, but 80% to 100% of cats in shelters ALREADY HAVE CORONA. Perhaps you may want to read the literature. How do you know you can't change the shelter's policy, how many times have you tried in the past? I would think that once every 3 to 6 months wouldn't be too often (picketing out front sometimes helps, but these days that may get you imprisoned as a terrorist). Or, who knows, maybe saving this one cat is enough for you, and your life mission is complete, who I am to judge? I hope you find her a home, and you live the rest of your days in blissful peace and happiness (at least until the shelter starts testing all their cats and decides to kill them ALL since they likely ALL test corona positive). Like they say, maybe you can't save every life, but to the one you do save, it means everything! What really matters is that you feel good inside, and that you can honestly look back on this in the future and say "I did the best I could" and be at peace with that. That's all any of us can really do. (I just speak from experience, as I know I look back on my life and regret all the "I could have done mores" I left behind.) Re: suggestions on yummy food for 5 month old kittten
Thanks for all the suggestions. I got her to the vet and they gave me eukanuba maiximum calorie food and I am feeding her three times a day and also leaving out food that she eats too. I will look into the food you suggested Tad and everybody else. Her name for now is Tamia which means chipmunk is spanish, but that might change. Thanks again for all the help! (I think she likes the junk food meow mix, because most likely that is what her previous owner was feeding her, or some other kind of junk food, I dont think he spent very much money on the food. Considering the condition she and her sister came in, it didn't seem he cared very much about them. I tried fancy feast, iams kitten food, friskies kitten food and whiskas so far and she didnt like them. She does like the eukanuba. I also have some pro-plan, science diet and nutro max kitten food to try) Tad-glad to hear that Thurston and Lovey are doing very well and healthy, I will let everyone know at the shelter. Along with the suggestions already given, you might also try the ProPlan kitten food, it's not the best food, (same with Fancy Feast), but I've never met a kitten that didn't like at least one of the flavors. Be ready for a little diarrhea from all the upset and change in diet, (I'd definitely get them off the meow mix). searching for a home for 5 month old female feluk postive kitten
Hi, Hoping I could find another home for another wonderful kitten. Her name is Tamia (means chipmunk in spanish) she is a 5 month old calico kitten. She came to our shelter with her sister, a man found them and kept them in a bin and fed them but unfortunatley seeked out medical help too late (stupid man). Her sister was a little over a 1lb and started to crash went the vet saw her and she had to be enuthanized. Luckily Tamia is a bit bigger (I don't know her weight off hand, but she is very tiny) and survived. She is doing well and is scared but loves to be held. I will be bringing her home but would love to find a permanent home for her. If any of you have room for one more wonderful feluk postive kitten, please contact me. She came up postive on the IFA and elisa. She is not on meds and I have to find out if she has been spayed or not. Thank you Jeni [EMAIL PROTECTED] _ Fixing up the home? It helps with liver failure. Unless the liver failure is caused by cancer, the Denosyl should help. She may also need subcutaneous fluids. If the vet thinks it could be lymphoma in the liver and you do not do diagnostics and chemo, ask for a combo dexamethasone and depomedrol shot. When my Simon had liver failure from lymphoma and the chemo stopped working for a while, those shots brought his liver values almost to normal by shrinking the lymphoma. I have been syringe feeding her through the night, but she is very weak this morning. She stopped eating abruptly the night before last & this crash come on like load of bricks. I am floored. She has jaundice & her urine is a dark orangey yellow. I'm praying like crazy that we'll be able to turn this around with the force feedings. Depending on what the vet says, I may opt for a feeding tube. I'm pretty scared but trying to remain optimistic, since that's what Peanut needs from me right now & I have read of cats recovering from liver issues. She's 18 years old & I know they can't live forever, but I've only had her for 2 months & I just want to have longer to show her that this world can be a decent place & that she is loved before she moves on. But, then again, it never seems like it was long enough when the time comes. I just hope it isn't her time yet, selfish as that may sound. I am determined, though, to do whatever is best for her, to the best of my knowledge. Please keep my precious baby in your prayers. Thanks for listening. Yvonne Check out the new AOL. hi Everyone, Thank you so much for all the suggestions. I found a cat sitter that lives in the neighborhood and comes with great recommendations. Also Nookie our feral is out of the wall, we (well our dog found her walking around, scared her) and now she is in the house. We closed up the wall and I made a make shift little house for her under the open stairs. She right now is hiding behind our dog crates, but hopefully will find her way to the little house for her. BUT. Then I thought of my own move, when Gail and I combined our respective households -- me with Missy, Luc, and at that time Phoebe, and her with Tribble and at that time Kitty. We hadn't introduced them all to each other, even though we lived a hallway away in our apartment building. It just didn't seem like a good idea. When we moved, we weren't too worried about the females, who were all sort of loners and wouldn't have territorial issues. We were worried about our two big Alphas, especially because Tribble especially is so confrontational. But when we let them out of the carriers and they saw each other, it was literally like: (nose touch) "Dude!" (ass sniff) "Dude!" No territorial stuff at all. (It probably helped, in the long run, that this house has 11 rooms and they wouldn't have to see each other at all if they didn't want to, but they didn't know that then.) So I'm wondering if, since there will be big changes for both cats anyway, it would be fine to introduce them to the new place at the same time, and maybe there wouldn't be territory wars. I don't know. Might be completely dependent on the cats' personalities, whether the original cat NEEDS to be Alpha? in search of a cat sitter in brooklyn new york
Hi, I know this maybe a shot in the dark, since I think most of the people on this list don't live in new york, but I thought I would try. Maybe someone would know someone that cat sits. My husband and I are going to my sister's wedding in California from sept 18-25th, we are looking for a cat sitter for our two feluks. I had a coworker lined up, but he just bailed on me. I live in bed-stuy, new york. Does anyone know anyone around that does do some cat sitting. Come in play, socialize, feed, and scoop litter. Neither of the cats are on meds, just a little lysine in thier food every day. One as most of you know is a feral and doesn't really go for the human contact stuff and the other one is a complete opposite and would fall over in love with anyone that petted him. Any suggestions or recommendation is highly appreciated! thanks Jeni
RE: just need to vent about my feral feluk
I just wanted to thank everyone for all the encouragement, kind words and of course advice. We are borrowing a trap from a friend, plan on trapping her and just getting her back in the house. Unfortuantely we do not have an extra room to keep her in. We have one bedroom an open floor area with the kitchen and livingroom and the down stairs is all opened. I plan on making her a small comfortable area under our stair area where she can hide better in and maybe won't want to go back into the wall. Thank you again, this list and the people on it are great and it's nice to be able to turn to in need. She had been abandoned ata few months of age in a trailer park, and foraged all summer until atender-hearted coworker of mine worried about her in the approaching coldweather, and trapped her. I was brand new at feral -- or "hard stray" asthey say on the ferals list -- handling and did a lot of things wrong. Butwe finally got her in a small room by herself, where, as it happened, thedoorknob was missing and there was a wide crack at the bottom of the door,so that she and the other cats could hear each other and even interact underthe door. At first she kept crawling up into the framework of the decrepit50s overstuffed chair we had in there, but we sat down in the room and readto her every night (100 Greatest Science Fiction Stories) or watched DVDsand talked. Eventually she would walk over us as we sat on the floor, orcome up on the chair arm for treats or pets. It's been a few years and westill can't pick her up properly (though last night I quickly picked her upand set her down and she didn't freak) but she's very loving and leansagainst your neck with her solid little body from the back of the sofa, orsometimes if you're laying down she'll flop on your face. So once the twoof you get past this hard bit and she's out of the wall, be patient andpersevere, bribe her with food and do the slow blink thing. It's verygratifying when they bond with you, and you've saved another starfish. ;-)Diane R.>>bless you for giving this little one a home, even if she's not quiteready to accept it!
just need to vent about my feral feluk
sorry, I just need to vent about the frustration I am going through right now with the feral feluk living in my house...I know I don't have as big as problems as everyone else, but I know some of you can sympathize with me...so the story is after our beloved papoose died of feluk, I was approached at work by the head of the HR department at my shelter and she asked me if I could take in a feluk she trapped and spayed and was going to release until they found out she was feluk. I said yes, because our feluk Hillman Waller was lonely after papoose passed on and well I was lonely too with only one cat and the three dogs in the house and I wanted to help other feluks. My husband was not too happy at all, didnt really like the idea another cat, he didnt even want papoose (but fell head over heels in love with him). So i took home this very feral black female about 5 years old feluk postive. We have had her for about 3 months and I have not gotten to touch her once, I am okay with that, but it hurts not to be able to pet her and show her I like her. She first lived in a play cage but was more freaked out about being in it and attacked me anytime I went to change the litter or feed her, I let her loose in the house. She had hiding spaces and that was fine, I checked up on her and made sure she ate, but now she has gotten into the wall of the duplex we live in. The basement was refinished into a living space that we have and they put up new walls but there is a space between the new walls and the old and she got into the there by an opening that popped open without my knowlegde and now we cant get her out! I am so frustrated and upset that she is in the wall and that she isnt going to come out for me. most likely we will have to trap her but i just think she so unhappy it seams and I feel bad for her. she is so freaked out by our dogs and our other cat tries to get close to her but she doesnt really like him. he's lonely and she must be lonely, and i fell awful about her and now she is the wall and i wrote a really long story. i know i shouldnt complain i know people out here on the list have it a lot worst then me, I am just upset and worried because who knows what is in those walls and god forbid she eats something back there she shouldnt and chews on something back there she shouldn't and well rats, i hope i dont have rats, i live in a city...sorry for venting and thank you for listening...everyone is so good to each other on this list, it's nice to have jeni
RE: 2 littermates - one pos/one neg
Hi, This might be a late mention to the email, but I just thought I would just say something. Coming from working in a shelter that has put down pos feluks I would seperate them, because it would give the kitten that is negative more of a chance to be adopted out. A lot of people out there do not want two kittens/cats let alone one positive. Of course I sound like a mean person to say this, but if you do find someone to take the both of them that would be great. I have heard of kits that happen to be one pos and one neg and stay that way. My second feluk was part of a pair he was the positive and his sister was negative. They were kept together for 3 weeks after coming to the shelter to see if he would test negative, but he never did (they were four months old). At home I had a positive already and decided to take the positive home and found someone to take the negative girl home. It has been four months and he is still positive and she was tested about a week ago and still negative. It is a double edge sword really or a catch 22-don't seperate them and maybe he will turn negative. Don't seperate them and he could still be positive and the other one negative and stay that way, or she could become positive. Or seperate them and put the neg up for adoption when it is ready and see if the other one turns negative. I don't know there are so many variables that is it hard to say. Since having two postives at home I wouldn't take in a negative, but that is how I am. I wish you luck and hope I didn't cause more confuse or problems. You are an amazing group of people and Allie and I are blessed to have had you in our lives. As you know from my last post, we made the decision to help Allie cross the bridge on Monday because she had declined so much over the weekend. And I really think she was trying to tell me no more (she hates vets, needles, pills, etc- always has). It was probably also hard for her to be indoors as she was always an outdoor cat and loved everything about being outside. (She was quite the hunter as well!) So, I cherished Monday night and stayed up half the night with her (for as long as she would sit and cuddle with me). We sat in the big chair in the den together and watched Milo and Otis (a movie about an orange cat and a dog- Allie was an orange cat with white belly and paws). When Allie decided she had had enough she jumped off my lap and almost fell over! One of her back legs was hardly working- it broke my heart! It almost looked neuro- and I definitely knew I was making the right decision at that point. Allie was a very active cat- loved to run around outside and hunt- she was never meant to be incapacitated. (The vet told me later that the leg could have been any number of things- a blood clot, menningitis, etc.- with having both FELV and FIV you just never know) I carried Allie upstairs and placed her on the bed where she slept the rest of the night with me. Yesterday (Tuesday), her back leg still wasn't working right and she was still sluggish. She didn't want to cuddle and hid behind the couch most of the day. We spent her last hour outside together walking around the yard and going to all her favorite spots. She sat on her favorite outdoor chair for a while feeling the sunshine and breeze (and even a few raindrops!) I'm so glad she was able to spend that time outside. I told her over and over again Monday and Tuesday how much I love her and what a good kitty she is. I told her I want her to be happy and not suffer anymore. My husband and I brought Allie to the vet together for our final good-bye. The vet was wonderful and explained everything (since this is the first time we have had to do this it made a big difference to know what was going to happen ahead of time). I asked the vet to give Allie a sedative first since she doesn't respond well to IV's, so she got a sedative and went to sleep. Then at 4:30pm on Tuesday 5/16/06 Allie went to sleep forever with me and my husband by her side. We stayed with her for a while and I took a lock of her fur. She looked so peaceful and I know she is in a better place now. I know this was the right thing to do- she was really suffering over the past few days, but it is still so hard. I miss her so much! I have not been able to bring myself to put away all the cat stuff yet. Last night my husband and I went through old pictures of Allie and relived our favorite Allie moments- there were so many! So now it's one day at a time and one foot in front of the other. I know I will continue to cry a lot and continue to miss her terribly. But I know my baby girl is somewhere now where there is no more suffering and she can run around and chase mice, squirrels, birds, and rabbits all day long. Thanks for listening! - New Yahoo! I know your heart is breaking, but it's so wonderful that you made the short time he had on earth full of love and caring. You might not have been able to give him more time, but you gave him something even more important, you gave him a place to belong; you gave him a loving and secure home. I put Papoose feluk + to sleep today after he was running a 106.4 temp for the past 4 days and it wasnt going down he also was anemic and had a heart mummer and wasnt getting better. He lived a wonderful life of 8 months in our house with our dogs and our other feluk + cat. I miss him dearly and am happy he did not suffer. He was found on the streets of queens as a tiny little 5 week old kitten and brought to the shelter I work at. He came up postive on both test and I decided to adopt him instead of them putting him down. I am just sad that we did not have more time with him. Thank you. I'm not sure even if the shelter he is at is a humane euth shelter, MANY of them still use gas chambers, you know. I hope he was humanely euthed by now... or rescued and given medical care, one of the two (though I think euth would be kinder). I was hoping to get him/her on the CLS in the part where we pray for healing and comfort to those that are still with us. I did get several people saying they emailed about him, but did not get a reply yet. Re: a little help with litter training the new cat
Hi Thanks for all the suggestions. We added another litter pan and changed the litter and also dewormed him. took Yodel to the vet the other day and he says he looks good and everything is well with him. He hasn't pooed in the tub or on top of my husbands coat so far, thank god...I am also crossing my fingers that there are no little presents anywhere. Yodel finds places to relax away from the dogs in the cat tree and also higher places around the apartment. So thank you all for the information. I really appreciate it. Might talk to the vet and get something for parasites - or get a stool test. Think our rescue uses Drontal and Flagyl before adopting out, for that sort of thing. It's not unusual for cats coming out of rescue to have that sort of thing and to poo inappropriately. looking for a forever home for two kits
Hi, My name is jeni and I have a feluk pos 5 month old at home Papoose, I work at a shelter and two kits need a home...I am going to take them but I dont know if I can keep them...three dogs, one cat and we have to move back with my parents until we can buy a house in a month (loans need to come through) My parents have three negative cats and well would not enjoy me bringing in more cats, but either way I am going to take them home with me, if I leave them at the shelter they will be put to sleep. They are about 4 months old, tabby and very cute of course. The boy came back postive on both the elisa and the IFA the girl came back negative but the shelter will not keep the girl because she is feluk exposed. Right now the are being held because the boy is getting neutered and the girl is running a little bit of a high temp. I live in New Jersey and work in New York, if you know of anyone that would give them a good home please let me know...you can email me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] or just respond to this email. I would keep them if we owned our own house (and have a very angry husband, he didnt even want the dogs, oh well), but right now unfortuantly is not a good time. Thank you so much for posting the pictures of your Angel Paassht. Together with your words about her, they paint a picture of life so full of love, mutual admiration and acceptance. Every single relationship we share is special, some seem to strike a deeper, more vibrant cord than others though, don't they? It's obvious that Paasst was a remarkable individual. I'm so sorry you've lost her physical presence. I can only imagine how crushing the blow is for you to bear. Please in your moments of sorrow, try and remember what a gift the two of you were given in finding each other. She's with you still. I don't know what your beliefs are about these things, but I have an overwhelming feeling that Paassht will return to you in the physical form of another cat. You'll recognize her by those extraordinary eyes. My prayer is that every animal might find the sort of life you provided for your sweet Paassht. There may be dark moments when you question the decisions you made for her, please don't. Everything you did, or didn't do, was prompted from a place of love and respect. You can make yourself crazy playing the "what if" game. We all do it, and it's a game no one can ever win. The present is only a brief moment in time, you and your Angel Paassht share eternity. RE: a name for my sanctuary
this is just a shot in the dark but what about "dochas" it means hope in irish (there is a fadda over the o) The Dochas House for Cats, because feluk cats really have no hope being in a shelter or on the streets..in the shelter they are usually put to sleep and on the streets they don't have a very good chance, so you are giving them hope if they are in your sanctuary. Hi Thank you for the response..papoose is doing very well, very active and aleart. He came home with a cold and diarreha but that cleared up in a matter of days and the vet says he looks really good. He is 4 months old and 6 lbs! I look forward to the manual. We try to keep his life as stress free as possible but he also has to share an apartment with three dogs who love him a little too much! She's very knowledgeable, as many are on this site. Don't let statistics get you down, because each kitty is their own individual and we can never know what to expect. Nothing is for sure with this virus. Love Papoose just like you would if he wasn't sick, but keep a close watch on him. Keep us posted on his progress and if you have ANY questions, please ask! Also, I am going to be sending out a manual I have been keeping track of over the past few months with information from all the posts on kitty healthcare, so look for more information on that in the next few days. :) Wendy Papoose is such a cute name! And he is lucky to have you. --- Nina <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Hello Jeni and welcome. Can you imagine that tiny little baby wandering the streets by himself?! The man that found him was an angel, and so are you. How is Papoose? Such a cute name, btw. Is he asymptomatic? I'm afraid that kittens with felv do have less of a chance statistically of shedding the virus. That doesn't mean Papoose won't, or that he won't have many years of symptom free health. Some kitties are carriers and never have problems. Get him on immune support supplements, give him the best diet you can, don't take a wait-and-see attitude with any signs of illness, and keep his home life as free from stress as you can. That is the best that any of us can do for our sweet little angels. > Nina > > JENI RECA wrote: > > > > > > > Hi..my name is Jeni. I have a feluk postive > kitten named papoose. Hi..my name is Jeni. I have a feluk postive kitten named papoose. I work at a shelter and he was a "drop" there. A man came in with him when he was about 5 weeks old, he told me that Papoose was wondering the streets of Queens. He came up positve on Elisa and also the IFA when he was brought to the shelter, we retested him when he was about 3.5 months old and came up postive on both test again, I am going to retest him at 6 months (he is about 4 months now) to see if he is postive, what do you think the chances of him being negative are? I try to feed my guys a 'good' diet, although I don't feed raw or anything like that. A lot of people use a lot of different supplements. I tend to save the supplements for when something's not going well, or an upcoming surgery like you are planning. I think lysine before going into surgery is a good idea as it might ward off any upper resp. infection she might encounter at the hospital. It sounds like you're familiar with hospitals! The antibiotic is a good idea, but uri's are viruses as I'm sure you know, and I feel like the lysine helps with those. My first positive kitty ALWAYS came home from the vet with an upper respiratory infection. (vet I don't use anymore, but still, sick cats are at the hospital) How long have you had her? 6 months is still young enough to 'throw' the virus if she was only recently exposed.
