Yes, thanks, done all that - I've changed every default file I can find but
the wizard still seems to take it from somewhere else - not a clue where.

Cheers.

Hi, can somebody please tell me how to change the default to A4 rather than
Letter on new files created with the wizard. I've tried everything I can

I know how to do it when creating new files without the wizard, it's just
the wizard version that I need to change to A4 default.

Re: [Finale] Need help with HP LJ 5000 and MacOS Mojave

2019-05-06 Thread Lawrence David Eden
I had problems with my Lexmark printer after upgrading to High Sierra. What I
earned is that not all printers are compatible with the Mac OS. Apple
published a list of compatible printers when High Sierra was released. Is the
HP printer in question on that list?
BTW, I resolved the issue by buying a new printer.

[Finale] Printing parts

2019-03-21 Thread Lawrence David Eden
Hi Listers,

I think I might have set up something wrong with regard to printing parts.
(FinaleMac 25)

I need some clarification: Should I be able to print a part from the “EDIT
PART” menu?

Do I use EXTRACT PARTS to isolate the part I want to print?

The problem that I am experiencing is that if I print a part from EDIT PARTS,
Finale prints the entire score instead of a single part. Is Finale behaving
normally?

Thanks!

Thanks to my colleagues who weighed in on my question about moving measures

Re: [Finale] Playback problem

The values I am describing are found on the MIDI keyboard itself. MIDI
instruments can be assigned a numeric volume level from 0 to 127 on my keyboard
(Kawai.)
As others have mentioned here, you can use the MIXER found in WINDOW Menu to
assign volume, and panning.

Where are the transposition meta tools stored? I used to hit “7” to transpose

wonder if this will fix Mike G’s problem as well.

Re: [Finale] Mac OS issue

2019-02-10 Thread Lawrence David Eden
Looks like I might have jumped the shark with my warnings about the Security
Update. My problems with Finale 25 have proven to be unrelated to the Security
Update.

Finale Mac 25 Mac Mini running Mac OS Mojave 10.14.3. I can crash Finale
simply by changing tools….very unusual for my system.

Question: I plan on doing a reinstallation of Finale. Should I delete the
version (FinMac25) that is already on my Mac before reinstalling?

Thanks for any assistance!

[Finale] Crashing

2019-02-10 Thread Lawrence David Eden
Finale 25 has been crashing on my Mac running OS 10.13.6 High Sierra. I am
using Speedy to enter notes and Finale crashes suddenly.
I have MIDI THRU turned OFF, but after each crash, Finale enables MIDI THRU and
I have to turn it off again. The crashes are a new occurrence.

I got this report from Finale on its last crash. I hope someone can tell me
how to fix this issue as it is making Finale useless. Thanks!

[Finale] Mac OS issue

2019-02-10 Thread Lawrence David Eden
Greetings and a word of warning to others:

Yesterday, I installed the latest Security Update for Mac OS. (I am running
10.13.6). I zapped the PRAM after I did the installation.

When I opened Finale 25.5 to continue work on a project, my MIDI settings were
different. Using Speedy when the score was displayed in transposed pitch caused
a return of the minor seconds sounding as I entered each note. This was a
problem that my colleagues on the List helped me fix last summer. Question is:
was it the Security Update or the PRAM Zap that changed things in Finale.

Any ideas? Have any of you experienced this issue as well?

[Finale] Finale 26 hi jacked my computer!

2019-01-10 Thread Lawrence
Hi, I recently installed fin 26 demo. It has now changed all my finale files so
that they now use 26 as the default. I’ve now disabled 26 but the files are
still the same and cannot be opened on Fin 25 from outside the programme. The
“change default” function does not offer Fin 25 as an option. Any ideas please?
 I’m on a PC.

Dear Listers,

Finale 25 Mac

I recently asked about having missing fonts in a few of my arrangements that

How do I fix this issue, given that I don’t know which font is missing?

[Finale] Fonts

I recently used Finale 25 to open a file that was created with Finale Mac 2K7.
Text instructions that I used in the file are now displaying as a series of

Am I correct in thinking that I have a font issue?

How can I get these expressions to display correctly in Finale 25?

nothing against Sibelius or any contributors per se.

[Finale] MIDI

2018-06-21 Thread Lawrence David Eden
I have a question about MIDI with FinaleMac 25/OS 10.13.5.

I am working on a transposed score that includes trumpets in Bb and horn in F.
When I display the score in concert pitch the notes I enter return a single
note sound, but if I display my score in transposed pitch (score showing
different key signatures) Finale and my MIDI plays 2 notes at a time that are a
minor second apart. Most annoying! I prefer to have Finale handle the
transposition, so want to use Speedy to enter the notes in transposed
pitch….one pitch only.

Have I missed something in my MIDI setup or is this something that can’t be
fixed? I used SCORE MANAGER to create my score. My previous version of Finale
was Finale 2K11 and it did not behave this way.

Thanks for any advice that my colleagues on the List are able to provide.

[Finale] Score and Parts

2018-05-18 Thread Lawrence David Eden
Finale 25
Max OS 10.13.4

Dear Listers,

I am still confused about how to get my parts to the printer. When I used
Finale 2011, I printed my parts directly from the “Edit Parts” menu and it
worked fine. In Finale 25, this does not work.
What is the correct procedure for getting my score divided into parts and sent
to the printer? Are we back to extracting parts or should “generate parts”
give me a printer ready document?

Another Question: I noticed that titles from previous arrangements are finding
their way into new pieces. For example: I arranged a "Trumpet Voluntary." I
closed this document then opened a different arrangement and the title showed
up on my new piece as “Trumpet Voluntary.” Is there a fix that I am
overlooking?

Final Question: every staff in my parts has the abbreviated instrument name in
the margin. While I want the instrument name on each part, I only need it to
appear once. I am looking for a global fix.

Thanks in advance for any light you Finale mavins can shed.

[Finale] Speedy note entry

2018-03-14 Thread Lawrence David Eden
Greetings,

The crisis du jour:
Mac running OS 10.13.3 with Finale 25.

I am trying to enter a piece into Finale. I am copying Trumpet 1 in Bb and so
I am showing my score with transpositions. When I try to enter the notes using
Speedy, Finale plays the concert pitch and the transposed pitch at the same
time.

The issue disappears if I display the score in concert pitch.

Question: is this a feature or can I still enter notes in transposed pitch and
hear only the note I entered? Is there something I have selected that will
cause this problem?

I never had this issue with earlier versions of Finale.

Thanks,

Larry Eden

[Finale] Part names

Dear Listers,

I created a chart using FinaleMac 25. The arrangement was for brass quintet.
The horn part had the abbreviated instrument name at the beginning of each

only.

How do I remove the staff names from the horn part?

[Finale] PRINTING PARTS

2018-01-09 Thread Lawrence David Eden
FinaleMac 25. Mac mini running 10.13.2 (High Sierra)

Dear Listers,

Finale is displaying strange behavior that I don’t understand.

I automatically generate parts for my arrangement.
When I go to print, (I write for brass quintet and needed a copy of the tuba
part.) I select EDIT PARTS and select TUBA from the list. Finale25 opens the
Trumpet 2 part instead of tuba.

In my previous version of Finale (2k11) that is all I needed to do to print
parts. Go to EDIT PARTS and select the part I wanted to print and Finale
printed that part.
In Finale25, this doesn’t work. Instead I have to EXTRACT PARTS in order to
print the part I want. Do we no longer print from our generated parts?

Is this a new “feature” of Finale25 or am I making a mistake somewhere along
the line?

Thanks for helping,

[Finale] Font question

Listers,

I created the file in question with an earlier version of Finale…probably
FinMac2K7. When I open the file using Fin25 some of my text expressions are

tempo markings. Clearly, I have a font problem, but I don’t know how to fix
it.

I would appreciate any help that you, my colleagues, can offer.

[Finale] Copy and paste

I recently started using FinaleMac 25 (I upgraded from 2K11) and I have a

else?

[Finale] page layout

2017-09-22 Thread Lawrence David Eden
I need a few answers regarding page layout. I am using Finale 2011 on a Mac
Mini. My OS X version is 10.11.6 El Capitan.
Lately, my generated parts are needing a lot of tweaking. My first measure is
indented too much, and my dynamics are being placed directly on top of notes
instead of underneath them.
I don’t know if these annoying issues are related to an older version of Finale
running on a modern OS, but I am allowing for this possibility.

I write mostly for Brass Quintet. Can someone suggest good page layout margin
numbers for me to try?

Thanks for your help regarding default files.

It seems that there are two default files - one is in "defaults" - this one

The other is under "document styles" and this is the one I missed - it
changes the defaults when new files are created using the setup wizard.

Re: [Finale] Tuplet in 6/8

2017-07-05 Thread Lawrence
I've seen both. Personally I prefer the duplet. I did a concert last year and
the composer (Elgar) used dotted quavers - it threw the young inexperienced
players beside me. As other have said, both seem acceptable.

Hi,

Ive just installed Finale 25 (Windows) on a new machine and once again,
Gariitan doesn't seem to be there. The last time I did this I completely
re-installed Finale to remedy this. Is there any other way of doing this
please.

Re: [Finale] Text enclosed in a box.

2017-05-01 Thread Lawrence Yates
Thanks Christopher, I'm sure I used to do it in a much easier way than
that. It's to enclose a set of details at the top of the first page
including several text inserts (date, modification, duration etc.) I'm
sure that in the past I simply used to draw a rectangle around everything,
although maybe I dreamt that.

Thanks.

[Finale] Finale 25 Octaves

2017-04-10 Thread Lawrence Yates
Hi,

I've just bought Finale 25 Windows.

I've had a couple of passages somehow being transposed up an octave without
any input from me. Fortunately I've spotted them so far but this could be
disastrous should I miss them.

Is this a known fault or am I doing something stupid? (Never had this
problem in any other version of Finale). The current problem was in a
bassoon part which I entered correctly. When I changed to look at the
score in scroll view it was transposed up the octave.

Cheers,

Lawrence
