The values I am describing are found on the MIDI keyboard itself. MIDI
instruments can be assigned a numeric volume level from 0 to 127 on my keyboard
(Kawai.)
As others have mentioned here, you can use the MIXER found in WINDOW Menu to
assign volume, and panning.

In the Window menu, just under Score Manager. At east that’s where it is the
Mac so I assume the Windows OS has it in the same place.

You did not mention if you are using a MIDI or internal speakers, but each
instrument in General MIDI can be assigned a volume via your MIDI keyboard.

Make sure you're not saving Midi volume data with your controller.
Try this:
Go into the Midi tool (not the Midi/Audio menu).
Dismiss the human playback message that comes up.

All my input is done with a midi controller

When I first load the file it usually plays all the parts at normal
volume then cuts out so that one might hear parts faintly if turned up all

Hi:
I’m running Finale 25.4.0.155 on a MacBook Pro running Sierra 10.12.6
Upon upgrading I had more that the usual trouble getting the software to
see the keyboard but I can kluge around it by opening the file ,them
closing it and restarting the computer.

Turn Human Playback on and use pizz. and arco expressions
Michael,
After some further investigation, I found that if you want to use GPO,
the GPO sample set contains separate samples for violins played arco,
and for violins played pizzicato. What I don't yet see in the time I've
had available, is how to change GPO samples with an expression. Until I
Couldn't you define the expression to send the note that switches the
patch to pizz? And then define an expression to send the note to
change them back to arco?
The way the GPO works in Kontkat is that there are some really low
notes below the range of the instruments that will switch them
Eric,

Yes, one could, and that seems to be the way to do it.
In the documentation, under the
You can do that in a simpler fashion than the overlapping staves, which can
give you trouble if you forget they are there and try to edit. Use
different layers for pizz and arco, or have the expression change patches.
OR
use the GPO samples labels KS for keystroke and the expressions themselves
Use the keyswitched GPO instruments (the ones with KS in the name) and HP
switches automatically from arco to pizz.

I can't help you with the problem, except that maybe you have created
an expression, or something with the MIDI tool, that sends a sustain
pedal ON message without ever sending the off message. Did you take a
pedal articulation and change it to something else without checking
the playback?
