For figures, you can have a paragraph (style such as Figure style) with
the next paragraph style defined as a Figure Caption style.

Sometimes this happens when you have conditional text which is hidden.
If this is the case, AND you search for unresolved cross-references and
there are none, you can safely ignore this warning.

I think the options that have been mentioned on the list are:
1. Use a FrameScript
2. Delete them from each file manually, then save the book as a MIF and
search for and delete the tags.
3. Save all the files as MIFs and delete the tags.

The
Pagination settings in the book file override the ones in each chapter,
so I recommend just setting them at the book level unless you have a
specific reason why you can't.

PDF XChange Viewer is a really easy-to-use (free) tool for commenting on
PDFs. It's something that you do not have to teach the reviewers. It's
self explanatory. And you do not have to "allow" users to comment on the
PDF in order to use this tool.

other par tags) and import the par tags from that file to all the files

Good point.
In general, you don't want this. But we have some manual that have an
index consisting of a list of functions. In these cases, it would be
preferable to have the function name hyperlinked as well.

I put a copy of each manual in a separate directory, and create an
Acrobat index file. When searching the index file (.PDX), the searches

I find importing Visio files as OLE objects (from Visio 2000 to FM 7.2)
to work just fine. When I try to File>Insert>File (by reference) it
doesn't recognize the Visio file format, and Visio is not in the list.

that claim that they add right to left functionality. Perhaps that will

On my system it pulls down the Table menu, then selects Place Cursor
After Table Anchor. Check which letter is underlined on your system for
this option.

Esc vP (uppercase p) is the shortcut for going back to the source of a
cross-reference.
By the way, if you don't like FM's shortcut keys, you can change them.

FrameMaker is still better than Word, but for the price you pay I think

Out of all the reasons to switch to FM, the layout was never an issue by
me. All you have to do is select the correct print driver in the Print
dialog box, and view the doc in Print Preview, not Page Layout view.

What's this "shared review thing"? Is it anything more than enabling the
reader to add comments?
I still recommend using PDF-XChange PDF Viewer for adding comments. I've
found it to work on all PDFs including encrypted and PDFs that did not
have commenting allowed.

It's not PDF security. It's only for comments. All of the option of the
Security tab are not affected.
