a short question: Is there an easy way to get a keyboard-beep (each letter
beeping when you type, like an old terminal)?
Maybe there is some straight forward settings - before I start to experiment..

On my portable I have a non-US keyboard (a european country layout),
in KDE I can set it to the appropriate keyboard layout.
KDM login window is still in US qwerty keyboard, which makes me have
to enter my password with different keystrokes

I can vouch for the Endurapro, which combines the buckling-spring feel
of an old AT keyboard
I suppose this is mentioning the obvious, but in case anyone thinks
IBM Model M keyboards are hard to find, just check eBay. You can get
them in good condition for around $25. Good condition meaning it will
last another 10 years (at least.)

the boot loader/beastie menu - escape to the loader prompt, single-
user mode etc..
It is the only keyboard attached and it works fine once the system is

I haven't used my MS keyboard on 7.0 yet. the box it's hooked up to is
a test box and i'm going through a torture session quickly. :P

I am using 'KDE Keyboard Tool' on FreeBSD-7.0.
I have US layout and Cyrillic layouts selected.
And on Xkb Options tab I selected Both Shift Keys together change layout
But when I press both Shifts layout doesn't change.
Anyone has this working?

I burned a fresh iso of the i386 7.0-RELEASE-disc1, I've got my
keyboard and mouse plugged in via USB. Upon successful boot of the
install cd, the moment I press a key, it seems to stick, and that key
code is repeated over and over again.

Does that make the answer any clearer? (maybe it's fresher in people's minds?)
Is confidence high that an update to 6.2-STABLE would sort this out?

I've tried an USB and PS/2 keyboard during installation. The
keyboard becomes unresponsive as soon as the install begins.
I'm installing on an IBM Xseries 235.
The BIOS setting appear correct.

its best days. This has caused me annoying problems with my ELI disks,
though.
I have four SATA harddrives, all of which are encrypted using ELI
encryption. I've encrypted the raw disks, ad0, ad1, ad2 and ad3
Forgot to mention, I've also tried a USB to PS/2 adaptor, but with that
one, the USB keyboard won't work at all.

After updating to xkeyboard-config-1.0 (from 0.9_3) yesterday and
booting for the first time after the update today, the KDE Keyboard Tool
tray icon displays err with tooltip Error changing keyboard layout to
'us' (or 'de(deadgraveacute)' depending on what I try). Indeed, the
