Done right, it would appear that there should be no problem using the same external drive partition for Time Machine backup for 2 different Macs. Correct me if I'm wrong. My problem is that some backups are in the wrong folder. What I should see in column view is: TM Partition>Backup.backups.db>M

You're wrong. When connected to a single volume, time machine uses the entire volume. The correct solution is erase and partition, so you have one volume per backup. Just moving the folders won't alter the internal DB structure Time MAchine uses to keep track of things. Thank you. I hav
