Re: [Audyssey] hi again and a blasbay question

2010-03-05 Thread Philip Bennefall

Hi Nicol,

Well, you have the Q9 and Kringle Crash titles available, and I have been
working extensively on a tool with which one can make audio games using a
simple scripting language. This tool is called Bgt, and I am hoping to have
a public beta available in the near future. There is also an adventure game
in development, which I cannot say much about at this time but if you are
interested in the latest news on everything related to Blastbay, feel free
to join the newsletter and/or the discussion forum. You can find both of
these by going to www.blastbay.com and clicking on the mailing list and the
discussion forum links respectively. You may also follow "blastbay" on
Twitter, if you so wish.

Kind regards,

Philip Bennefall

Hi all

It has been a long time since I have written to the list.

My pc gave a lot of problems so my tech formatted it but actually without
warning me, so I have lost about 15000 e-mails, amongst them 500 e-mails
from this list.

So its nice to be back.

I am sure all of us have to go through this thing of having to format.

Anyway, since I have lost so many e-mails, what's the latest news on
blastbay studios?

Have a nice day

I have no idea why you can't move, but in mission 1, the object is to
complete the mission without moving from your original position. You only
use your aiming and weaponry to sink the ships as they approach or pass in
front of you at different angles and speeds.

Hi Chuck and knowledgeable Lone Woofers out there.
In the first mission I had the enemy ship at s 33. I tried to pull my stick
to the two o'clock position and I couldn't move. Yes I was at least quarter
or half speed.
Can anyone tell me why I couldn't move?
May that should be a walk through podcast?
Now on the fence sort to speak about ordering my unlock code for Lone Wolf.
So thanks for the help on making moving in the direction you'd want to go in

If anyone wants an audio walk-through of lone wolf's mission, I think I
still have one that I made quite some time ago, and Raul also has one
available. We play the mission differently. That's the neat thing about
the game. There is, in a lot of cases, more than one way to, so to speak,
skin the cat. Let me know, off list, that you want a copy of my recording,
and I'll send it to you through

www.sendspace.com

Only off list requests will be paid attention to. This will hopefully
prevent list clutter. Thanks.

Hi Peter,
Wen installing .Net applications you should install or update the .Net
Framework first before installing or upgrading anything else. The
exception is if you are running something like Windows 7 which already
has the latest updates to the .Net Framework and isn't a big issue
like it is on Windows XP or Vista where the framework needs to be
installed or upgraded before applying XNA and other updates.

Re: [Audyssey] an update on my entombed problem

2010-03-05 Thread shaun everiss
hmmm
that can't be done.
firstly uninstall the game.
uninstall mysql, xna vc packages 2008 and 05 and all xna instances.
get the latest updates from windows update critical then restart.
get all the items in optional updates with dotnet on them.
restart.
run windowsupdate again and get all the critical updates if there are any to
get.
now run the installer.
This should work.
There is no way to kill dx but then its probably something else.
you may need to clean your temp caches which I do on a regular basis history
temp internet files, prefetch and temp folders.
Strangely enough when doing a cleanout if windows is being a pain I seem to
find it benificial to delete all instances of rundll32.exe in prefetch and then
recycle bin and restart.
The system seems to act like its got a new lease of life.
And this has solved some things.
especially if windows got cranky.
Used to just reformat but its supprising what happens when you clear your
caches.
I'd also clear all documents from startup menu in taskbar and start settings on
a regular basis.
I'd also get tweakui 2 or whatever the latest version is.
myself I still use tweakui 1.33 on winxp which has saved me loads of issues.
on my first xp system the caches got to full and the system crapped out loads
of times.
eventualy ending up not loading at all and I had to reformat.
this went on for a month and then after being angry by chance I did a clearout
of my cache manually and the issue went away for a while.
I then remembered tweakui which ofcause I had lost and got it and well I've
never looked back.
its only 90k.
I have cleared most caches like the run cache and document cache at startup
which was what got full.
and its what I put on all other systems I support.
I'd also do an sfc /scannow spyware and antivirus scan etc.
Lastly do a chkdsk on the main drive, and a defrag.
not that this is without risks defrag doesn't like my laptop, at least hal
intercepts don't like it jaws doesn't care but I had to reload bits after the
defrag.
This is a weird issue windows could need a reformat but I am sure its a
component issue.

ok
www.blind-games.com/redist.zip should have all the info in it not sure how up
to date it is.
a lot of web installers
install dotnet
then the sql runtimes
vcredist xna and then directx
at least that should work.
HOwever since the stuff comes with the program and nothing has happend after
the beta I suspect that some stuff is out of date, directx is sertainly and xna
3.1 is what is used now in entombed
maybe jayson can update the redist package.
but still.
www.softwarepatch.com should have the right stuff if you don't find those run
windowsupdate to get dotnet and all optionals and criticals.
directx you will have to search for
luckily putting in download directx9c redist in google will usually give you
the latest version

its also worth noting that every time I have done any security updates of
directx componants I have to reinstall directx same with dotnet.
the only exception is when I updated dotnet 2 and 3 to be dotnet4 compatible.
suggesting that these are standalones.
Probably I will have to reinstall directx again if I need to get a reinit with
dotnet4 programs per say but I don't want to unless its needed.

why don't you load klango on your usb flash drive that way you can carry it
with you.
although the base package is about 20mb if you get the entire themes download
including seperate things and its all in bits its about a gb all up.
so I'd load it first download and install extra stuff then get it going.
on that note I know it may be a little ot but if you copy your klango folder
say from application data in your user settings, could you put it back or put
it on another system or is it not worth it.
I don't mind because unless I need to reformat this won't happen and anyway I
have broadband.

I can see it now:

"spam fellow uses flood of messages, orc fighter is unable to act due

Seriously I do hope this is the last we see of such irritating rubbish, and

Hi John.

It was raul who did the walkthroughs, and Liam is indeed hosting them.

You can find them at http://www.liamerven.com/games/ their certainly worth
hereing, though Raul only does cover the initial game missions and none of
the extra ones, - also while the walkthru is great, I do have to confess

that sinse my targiting and navigation in the game is no where near as good
as Rauls, some of his tactics, - like using the depth gun in the first
mission, are rather beyond me. ;D.

Hi,
Ummm..Not a good idea, but can be fixed. Do you have any .Net
Framework installed on your system? If no then DirectX will only
update and install the C++ runtime libraries while not applying or
installing any .Net based stuff. In such a case simply reinstall
DirectX again after installing or upgrading .Net to 3.5 or 4.0.

Hi,
That's good to know, and I wasn't aware of that. Main reason is my
Windows machines are all up to date anyway with all of the latest .Net
Framework releases and SDKs so Entombed didn't have to install
anything extra. It just installed on my system and ran out of the box
without a hitch.

Re: [Audyssey] an update on my entombed problem

2010-03-05 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Peter,
That's correct. DirectX is a core Windows component so it can't be
uninstalled once upgraded or installed. So the way the setup works is
when you run it it detects which components haven't been upgraded, are
missing, and updates/installs the required components. So it is safe
just to rerun the setup again which will update whatever was not
previously installed or requires upgrading.

the problem, with a close programme button, when I close the programme,
naturally nothing else happens. I assumed that the installer would

Wen installing .Net applications you should install or update the .Net
Framework first before installing or upgrading anything else. The
exception is if you are running something like Windows 7 which already
has the latest updates to the .Net Framework and isn't a big issue

Hi,
Ummm..Not a good idea, but can be fixed.

I actually find that I prefer to install all this stuff manualy. once I let
it do it at school as I am considered knowledgeable anyway fixing sapi and
that sort of thing so I wasn't worried installing.
it displayed an error, probably because it didn't see something like
outdated direct x which a human can notice. incidentaly I'll have to install
klango on that thing, lol. at least the school bought we licenses. I
couldn't stand working with. um. what was there. well, it first was jaws,
then hal, and then it was like breaking every so often and I had to use
satogo. but that's waay off topic. so I'll get back when this finishes

Hi Peter,
Wen installing .Net applications you should install or update the .Net
Framework first before installing or upgrading anything else. The
exception is if you are running something like Windows 7 which already
has the latest updates to the .Net Framework and isn't a big issue
like it is on Windows XP or Vista where the framework needs to be

really rock is if I can get the destroyers and subs out first.

Hi John.

It was raul who did the walkthroughs, and Liam is indeed hosting them.

You can find them at http://www.liamerven.com/games/ their certainly worth
hereing, though Raul only does cover the initial game missions and none of
the extra ones, - also while the walkthru is great, I do have to confess
that sinse my targiting and navigation in the game is no where near as good
as Rauls, some of his tactics, - like using the depth gun in the first
mission, are rather beyond me. ;D.
