Forgot about all those. The quests are fun too. OK, dumb question, but what
does turn undead do? I've got it in my skills on my main character I think,
but can't remember what it does.

Mike,

Actually, only about half of the experience on the game comes directly
from killing monsters, and there's a lot of other ways to get
experience. For example, using your spells and skills, even outside
of combat, is worth a lot. A lot of healers follow groups around to
heal others, but never actually participate in combat.

Here are some other things you can do to get experience that don't
involve killing:

- thieves can shoplift, steal, bribe, and brew poisons
- necromancers can do a lot of interesting things with demon summoning
and raising undead
- clerics can heal, resurrect, and turn undead
- mages can brew and bottle potions for others
- quests
- achievements
- exploreration points
- skill/spell improvement

That said, there isn't much of a crafting skillset right now. The
closest we have to true crafting are probably the brew and various
necromancer skills for raising undead. There are a number of quests
that have crafting of specific items to complete the quest, but these
are usually high level and I'd say they don't count.

[Audyssey] Darkgrue questions

2011-05-16 Thread The Addictor
Hey Jeremy, I have some questions about Darkgrue.
I'm making a simple game book with it--a Superman. Since I only have my
memories of Superfriends TV shows it'll be horribly inaccurate, but I am making
it to read to the kiddies and they won't care.
Anyway, a couple questions. First, you hit plus to make a new choice, but I
don't see a way to link the choice to a section. The only way I know how to do
that is memorize then paste, but it might be quicker just to type in the
section number.
Also, how do I make new sections? There are only six, and when I go to next
storyless section it seems to take me to one at random.
I'm really liking this though--it rocks!

LOL! and I was reading the part last night, or should I say listening to it, where Dumbledore discussing what happened in the grave yard with Harry and his Godfather. As they discuss the spells in reverse that came out of Voldimort's wand, the first to appear from the wand is Cedric. So, does that mean that Wormtail had Voldimort's wand? I think not. If we go back to the beginning of the novel when Voldimort kills the old care taker, he asks Voldimort to turn and face him. Voldimort does so and kills the old man so sense the appearances of the people Voldimort has killed are listed in reverse, it is clear that it was not Wormtail and in fact Voldimort. I suspect this point will be argued back and fourth for quite some time to come and I'm not sure that J K didn't intend to muddy the waters up a bit.

versions of Chuzzles and Bejeweled since they are so popular among mainstream
casual gamers. I don't want to make it sound like I'll be producing those next

those games higher up on my list of what to work on next.

Re: [Audyssey] Lunimals

2011-05-16 Thread Jeremy Kaldobsky
Mike, in the Luminals folder, open up the readme.txt file. This is the section
you need:

If you are running Windows Vista or Windows 7 you may encounter an error if you
don't have direct X7 registered. Follow these steps to register the file and
the error should be corrected.
Put dx7vb.dll into the c:\windows\syswow64 folder. The file to copy can be
found within the game's folder. After copying, open command prompt as an
administrator. Go to c:\windows\syswow64 and type regsvr32 dx7vb.dll

If you attempted to register direct X, but had difficulties, here are step by
step instructions:
(If you are running a 32 bit version of windows, replace syswow64 with
system32 in these instructions.)

Copy dx7vb.dll into the c:\windows\syswow64 folder.
Open up the command prompt as an administrator (being on an admin account does
not mean the same thing).
There are 2 ways to achieve this. If you're able, right click on the command
prompt icon and select Run as Administrator.
If you must use the keyboard, use the Windows context key after you have
highlighted the command prompt icon. This will bring up the menu allowing you
to select Run as administrator.
Once command prompt opens, type the following 5 commands, and press enter after
each one:
cd..
cd..
cd\windows
cd\windows\syswow64
regsvr32 dx7vb.dll

I'm actually adding that second half to the game's read me file that will ship
with the next update. I think it is a good idea to give people the step by
step instructions.

I'm not sure if apple themselves would allow for that given their strict

I did hear of people running ASAP successfully under it, but you'd need a

Hey Jeremy, I have another suggestion. Can you make the game so that it can

Just a thought. I'm liking this Darkgrue project a lot.

Re: [Audyssey] DOS for iphone?

2011-05-16 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Petr,

Yes, I do see where you are going with your thinking. You are aalso
right that with Dos Box you pretty much have to have an old hardware
synth and a Dos screen reader to use it. Unfortunately, with the lack
of hardware synths, serial ports, etc these days its pretty much a
given a VI user can't really use Dos Box. So even if there were a
version of Dos Box for IPhone there wouldn't be really any way to get
access to it via VoiceOver.

I know I have a similar problem with Dos Box. Once upon a time I could
plug in my old Dectalk Express and load Jaws for Dos and use Dos Box
for Linux. However, since my laptop doesn't have a serial port, my

Hi Zachary,

Thanks for the suggestion. Been a while since I've played around with
Dos EMU. Actually, been a long time since I touched Speakup as well
for that matter as I absolutely hate having to recompile the entire
kernel just to install a screen reader. So I've tended not to mess
with Speakup. Of course there is Vinux, but I don't have that
installed. Just the stock Ubuntu distribution.

DarkGrue is an accessible game book creator. It organizes your work into a
skeleton of story paths, and with the press of a button, it is saved as a

few odd options, such as background music for your story, but that requires the
viewer to use Internet Explorer because default Firefox doesn't care much for
background music.

Ken, would an accessible Chuzzles game be interesting to you? I have a
huge, (and I do mean huge), list of games I want to make, but time
constraints limits how fast I can produce them. On that list, I was going
to make accessible versions of Chuzzles and Bejeweled since they are so
popular among mainstream casual gamers. I don't want to make it sound like
I'll be producing those next or anything, I am just interested to know if
someone actually would like to have those made. When I know there would be
people interested, I tend to move those games higher up on my list of what
to work on next.

Warning: something of a S P O I L E R! S P O I L E R! Read at your own
risk, this text direct to you from the heart of the Fukushima reactor, etc,
etc.

So beating the fish and turtles thing is a bit of a slog, but there's a
consistent setup I use that gets me to the tricky part. Buy two, and only
two fish. Monitor their numbers *very* carefully. When they reach 7, sell
the extra 5 to get back down to 2. (You may find a time where you have 8
because of happy, reproductive fish, sell 6). You need to do this in order
to make sufficient money to get your first turtle. Keep cycling through
until you have your $160,000.

Buy 1 and only 1 turtle. Now your fish balancing gets slightly trickier. I
found that keeping 4 fish as the minimum to sell down to seemed to work
pretty well. When you have 9 or 10 fish, sell down to four. Keep bringing
in that advertising and sales money until you are ready for your second
turtle.

Now here's the art, and where my instructions get a little fuzzy. When
you're about to buy your second turtle, you have to begin letting the fish
population grow a little more. I think 13 to 15 was the number I chose for
the minimum, so let it grow to 18-20 and sell down. The tricky part is that
in this region, reproduction isn't predictably one at a time, so you will
have to catch it quickly. Too few and the turtles eat them. Too many, and
you have a population explosion and subsequent crash, and with 2 turtles,
that crash might be fatal to your fish.
If you screw up and have an explosion with less than 2 turtles, you'll be
fine, ride it out until the numbers crash back down into the low teens then
start over. Your biggest enemy is power loss and being unable to sell, so
monitor your power consumption carefully.

I'm not seeing a huge effect of bug numbers on the fish cycle. I think a
large bug reproduction simply lengthens the cycle. I haven't tried
balancing fish with only algae though so that effect may be more significant
than I think.

Note, this same strategy will work in a modified form for the later parts of
mission 6, though there, you're working with land animals, and mice are more
forgiving than fish.

I'm currently stuck on the part of mission 7 with the added loan. That
quarter million every 120 ticks is brutal. I've also had a hell of a time
keeping squirrels alive if there's anything else in the dome. For fun, I
started rabbits and squirrels to see if I could get a sustainable population
before introducing mice. The mice are too efficient acorn eaters to allow
the squirrels to live in any of my domes so far. I did get a stable rabbit
population to coexist with maximized mice, but it hovered around 5-10
rabbits after the die-off that came with the mouse explosion.

Can you tell I've been thinking a lot about this game? Well done Jeremy,
and I'm excited to see what comes next.

I have missed most of the backstory on this; the game alone sounds like
fun. Is it a free game? Can I play it with Windows XP? What's the object?

Why can't I destroy piranha? Yes, I tried out the piranha and at one

was low on power but wanted to rid myself of a few of the pesky things,
but,

while destroy is presented as an option for the p command, hitting
shift-delete doesn't destroy one.

On the subject of piranha, I think these boys may be a little unbalanced.
In my current game, I have 1,295 of the bloody things. Their die-off
rate
seems a bit low and they're not reacting to available food supply (or
lack

thereof) as expected. I have no fish and no aquatic bugs left, only a
couple of turtles and some assorted land critters. They aren't killing
off

the land critters, so I don't know how they're surviving the sterilized
waters they currently inhabit. Neat idea, but you may want to rebalance
them. With both kaymans and turtles in the water, I'd have expected the
population to stay a bit more in control.

And sadly, Jaws 12 doesn't work with the game, or at least it doesn't on
my

machine.

By the way, when you have 1300 piranha, the game slows down to a crawl,
then

freezes completely. I had to exit via the task manager. As I've saved
along the way, I may now be screwed. I don't know if this is a speech
delay
thing, or I've just managed to choke my machine. If it's the latter,
then
about three more ticks would have killed anybody, as I'd have 3,000 or
more

piranha.

Ok, the amount of feedback I'm giving you now rivals David Greenwood. Be
honored sir.

Ok first things first. a requirement to start learning to play rock band
is to own rock band. if you don't have a ps3/360/wii, don't have rock
band, and aren't willing to seriously learn to play rock band, don't
bother responding. this is for those of you that want to get better, or
learn to play guitar, bass, vocals, and drums. I'm going to try and teach
you guys to play on expert, since we all know expert is such fun. right?
rght? ok good. Now I'll mostly concentrate on guitar, bass and
vocals. If there are any good RB drummers out there, I know Clement plays
drums regularly, then you can perhaps tackle drums. I suck at drums, and
I'm not ashamed to admit it. lol. However when it comes to guitar and
bass, I pretty much have it all figured out. it isn't just a matter of
learning notes and chords either. you need to think of this from a
charter's point of view, and I'm going to try and teach you how to do
this. also if you can play a real instrument, or have some experience with
music in general it'll help tremendously. I'm willing to work with you
guys individually, or in groups, via skype, or similar program.
communicating in real-time is a must for this as I need to hear what you
are doing in the game. If you guys are interested, feel free to
contact me privately or respond on here with your details, and I'll keep
in touch.

[Audyssey] bgt and pipe2

2011-05-16 Thread NIcol
Hi list
I decided I am going to take bgt on as a new hobby.
I think I have the creative juices to make games.
A long term dream I have been cherishing is to make my own plumber game with
bgt. I realize this is a long term dream.
I realize I first have to create many simple games before I can create my
own plumber game. And I realize for me to create my own plumber game, I
first need to buy a bgt license to create commercial games like my future
plumber game.
But I'd like to know if a game similar to pipe2 is possible in bgt?
My mom forbid me to play pipe2 as it contains shooting and heavy metal
guitar music.
So I'd like to create my own plumber game which I will call plumber man.
The concept must be exactly the same as in pipe2.
Finding pipes, hammering them and turning the velve.
And then my own future plumber game will also have rats to knock off and
spiders to crunch exactly as in pipe2.
But instead of thugs I will have more spiders to crunch.
I also want to have side scroller levels exactly as in pipe2.
I also want to have 2 bonus rounds in my future plumber game.
But instead of shooting thugs in the bonus rounds for extra time, I want to
make the bonus rounds spider crunching rounds.
Then instead of the boss being a person to shoot, I want to make the boss a
huge hairy spider to crunch many times.
Then the music will also be different: the intro, level music and ending.
Is it possible to create a game in bgt similar to pipe2?

Re: [Audyssey] bgt and pipe2

2011-05-16 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Nicol,

Absolutely. Its very possible. BGT is pretty much able to create any
kind of game you can imagine and then some. Of course, what you can
create really is only limited to your own individual skills and
programming ability. Once you learn the BGT language, Angelscript, you
are pretty much set to write everything from the worlds simplest BopIt
clone to something as complex as a MMO/RPG like Star Wars The Old
Republic. In the right hands BGT can be a very powerful tool.

As a software developer myself the only drawback or complaint I
personally have with BGT is it isn't cross-platform. However, as of
the latest version of my G3D engine I now have an engine that fulfills
that need. So if it weren't for the fact I needed cross-platform
support for Linux I'd probably buy and use BGT myself instead of
writing my own game engine.
