Hi Lisa,

Well said. Thanks for that.

The fact of the matter is that audio game developers, a lot of us,
have lives outside of games. We have marriages, families, some have
jobs, and whatever those reasons are we aren't here to serve the blind
community 24/7 despite what some gamers think. If they want developers
to do that then perhaps they need a way to fund it as the few measly
thousand or so an audio game developer makes isn't worth working on
games around the clock or treating it like a normal 9 to 5 job.

Cheers!

Hi Ishan,

A correction here. Draconis has no immediate plans to develop anything
for Linux. They are currently porting their games to Mac OSX using a
custom designed engine that will run on Mac and Windows.

As for them updating Monkey Business I am certain it has nothing to do
with nobody being interested in an update. It is much more practical
than that.

Since Draconis is rewriting all of their games from scratch with
cross-platform support in mind they have no reason to update and fix
the older games written in VB 6. That would be a waste of time since
they are rewriting games like Monkey business anyway. Just because
those updates aren't coming out immediately doesn't mean they aren't
being developed.

Cheers!

Well to be honest I don't think draconis care about the old games
much now especially since they are in the middle of porting them to
their new engine.
Thats no secret but as is the way with the industry at large
especially with the core companies they don't let the cat out the bag
that often.
I know from experience with some of the indie devs I test for that
some are trying to ballance dev time and life time and so are pulling
back a bit from constant development.

Re: [Audyssey] Monkey business

2014-05-20 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Lori,

Well, based on Draconis's past history they will offer the new version
of Monkey Business for a reasonable upgrade price. They have been
pretty fair so far of offering upgrades from Change Reaction 1 to
Change Reaction 2 for prior customers and I'd Expect them to handle it
the same way for Monkey Business and any of their other titles they
are updating using their new engine.

As far as the new action game I seem to recall something about that
myself, but I also realize that Josh and everyone else is pretty busy
so am content to wait until they have something to report on that
project. Audio game developers don't make enough off their games to
make it a full time business so do it in their spare and free time and
I completely understand why it can take a while from announcement to
actual release.

As for the ledges level that one is very tricky. There is a
walkthrough on Audiogames.net to walk through that level based on
counting steps etc, but the main thing is just follow the ledges
around to the teleporter. If I remember correctly, keeping mind it has
been years since I did this, I use to just keep the ledges on my right
and I'd eventually make it to the teleporter.

Cheers!

Hi Lori,

Oh, I agree that the navigation in Monkey Business definitely needs
improvement. However, it was written originally by James North around
99 or so before Shades of Doom etc existed so I don't think there was
a better navigation system in place at the time for James North to
compare it to. Whenever Draconis gets around to rewriting the game I
hope they develop some new navigation system as the current one stinks
in my opinion.

By problems running levels ar you talking about the Wild West level?
that's a well known bug in the game, and one that has been addressed
many time on the Audyssey List and the Audiogames.net Forum.

Cheers!

Interesting. The As tech level with the acid pits and Aztec temple
works fine here. What seems to be the problem with your copy of Monkey
Business?

As for your comment about Draconis I am afraid I'm not sure where your
skepticism is coming from. They have released Change Reaction 2 and
Silver Dollar in the past year, and before that were developing a
cross-platform game engine. So I really don't see the negativism is
deserved in their case.

Cheers!

As for Draconis producing any actual action games, they've been promising
things for years, and not delivering, so I wouldn't hold my breath.

Cheers!

Hi Charles,

Definitely is, but I think we both know many people don't care about
cheating. They don't care if they cheat as long as they can get passed
a point in a game without any difficulty. I have long since stopped
arguing with those kind of people.

As for playing Monkey Business on a laptop you are going to have to
get and use an external USB keyboard or something. When the game was

therefore is very difficult to play on a laptop unless you have an

Hi Bryan, I just managed to get your monkey business walkthrough. In it you
menshened the wild west level was missing. Its in the game, but there is a
bug which prevents it from loading. To fix this, if on Windows 7, go to your
c drive, then users, then your username then appdata then roning, then
Monkey business, then copy the oldwest.map file into your monkey business
folder in the program files folder. If your not on windows 7, you would need
to go to documents and settings, then your user name, then follow the steps
from there. I hope this helps. Sky

Hi Sky,

The file you need to find and copy is Oldwest.map. It usually gets
placed in something like
c:\Users\Thomas\App Data\Roming\Monkey Business
or something like that. At least that's where I found it on Win 7.
You copy the Oldwest.map file into the Monkey Business folder with the
rest of the map files and you should be set.

Hi Karl.

I'd rather not monkey about with game code (ha ha), sinse in fact this
always feels a bit too much like cheating to me as opposed to using cheats
which the developer actually put into the game.

There's no reason why but this is my feeling on the matter.

However, thanks a lot for the skip level code, that one will deffiantely
come in handy.

Dark, if you press left control, right shift and the ` key at the same
time, you can skip the current level. This will enable you to try the
other levels, and you can always go back and restarting the game.
There is a way to access any level you want, as well as effecting your
inventory, but I'd rather not discuss that on list as it involves the
registry. If your interested, please write me off list.

Hi Dark,

Although, I'm pretty good at FPS games I found Monkey Business rather
disorienting the first few times I played it as well. Eventually, I got
the

hang of it, but as you said relying totally on audio won't help much. The
only way I really got the hang of Monkey Business is by creating a mental
map of the levels and could get around pretty much by memory. That made
catching monkies easier because I remembered I'd have to walk around a
stone, tree, etc and could use those stationary items as landmarks. They
also could be used to hide, and you could jump out from behind a tree or
stone to catch the monkeies as they pass buy. The absolutely worst level
is

the ledges level. I've never beaten it just by exploring it. Instead I've

sinse there isn't much other sound going on at the time it's fairly
easy to isolate the prof from everything else.

it's the jungle that really gives me trouble.

firstly, the tracking of sound sources seems amazingly imprecise.
Frequently I'll here an object bleep in my locator of say the sword or
a coin, center it, walk towards it and go right past.

Then, the placement of sounds relative to obstacles seems very dodgy.
Frequently I'll here something but not be able to get to it and go
slamming into a tree, this is true of both stationary objects, and
moving ones and makes catching monkies a right royal pest. For someone
who navigates by markers and directional memory rather than by
actually creating a mental map of the terrain, this is frankly a
nightmare, because it means I cannot accurately work out where sound
markers of certain things are and plan routes around that without
slamming

head on into something.

Just to make things even harder, there is no handy backup as in the
gma engine of things like scan or object identity menues, so I can't
get a 360 or 180 scan around me, the sonar I find nearly useless.

Finally, it seems the engine has no distinction betwene forground
sound sources eg, object sounds or purely sound objects which move in
the 3D field, and background ones, ie, constant ambience. Everything
seems to have the same volume, which makes distinguishing one from the

other a right pest.

this is why, even with the manual description, I find the jungle and
the game generally so hard to play, pluss of course there are a
few mechanical issues with the game, such as the way you can't swing
your net, or even actually navigate very well, while swimming, it
always seems when I'm just about to gnab one of those bloody monkies
it dives into the river, and not only can I not use my net but I end
up getting disorientated and swept of somewhere else, often to my

doom!

Actually Phil, even though Sarah is probably a more complex game
overall, especially in terms of many sound objects, I find it far
easier to play owing to the good sound positioning and distinction,
handy review commands and precise location of sounds in the Gma engine.

Beware the grue!

Dark, if you press left control, right shift and the ` key at the same time,

That makes sense tom, and would very much explain why I do so badly at the
game, sinse mental mapping and spacial exercizes are something my brain
simply does not do at the best of times.

There is a physiological reason for this due to brain damage caused at my
birth, and generally I find that use of my memory and a system of land marks
can get me around most things (including mobility in everyday life),
extremely well, however in mb I completely failed at this.

Imho Josh should really! look at bringing the game up to the same standard
of navigation we've seen in the other first person titles.

Hi Dark,

Although, I'm pretty good at FPS games I found Monkey Business rather
disorienting the first few times I played it as well. Eventually, I got the

Re: [Audyssey] Monkey business was shell shock

2011-03-25 Thread dark

Hi Phil.

Actually, following the professor was never the bit I had trouble with and
did it first time I played the game.

I just waited for the professor to get a bit ahead then kept his footsteps
or humming in the center of my sterrio field, occasionally adjusting with
either right and left arrows or ctrl arrows, much as in fact I do when
doing the follow the truck mission in tank commander.

sinse there isn't much other sound going on at the time it's fairly easy to
isolate the prof from everything else.

it's the jungle that really gives me trouble.

firstly, the tracking of sound sources seems amazingly imprecise. Frequently
I'll here an object bleep in my locator of say the sword or a coin, center
it, walk towards it and go right past.

Then, the placement of sounds relative to obstacles seems very dodgy.
Frequently I'll here something but not be able to get to it and go slamming
into a tree, this is true of both stationary objects, and moving ones and
makes catching monkies a right royal pest. For someone who navigates by
markers and directional memory rather than by actually creating a mental map
of the terrain, this is frankly a nightmare, because it means I cannot
accurately work out where sound markers of certain things are and plan
routes around that without slamming head on into something.

Just to make things even harder, there is no handy backup as in the gma
engine of things like scan or object identity menues, so I can't get a 360
or 180 scan around me, the sonar I find nearly useless.

Finally, it seems the engine has no distinction betwene forground sound
sources eg, object sounds or purely sound objects which move in the 3D
field, and background ones, ie, constant ambience. Everything seems to have
the same volume, which makes distinguishing one from the other a right pest.

this is why, even with the manual description, I find the jungle and the
game generally so hard to play, pluss of course there are a few
mechanical issues with the game, such as the way you can't swing your

seems when I'm just about to gnab one of those bloody monkies it dives into

owing to the good sound positioning and distinction, handy review commands

Hi,
Yes. A review is not made to show you a complete game. It is merely there so
you can either get a feel of what others think about the game or product, or
so you can see a quick demonstration covering the multiple points involved.
That is why reviews do not show the entire game, that is not their purpose
in general, what you want is a walkthrough.
Best Regards,
Hayden

Hi,
Um...Level 2 is the jungle level. To leave the jungle you have to
climb the wall of vines to reach the ledges above.
If you are on the Aztec temple level you have to jump over the acid
pits to get to the temple. That's a lot easier said than done though.

Re: [Audyssey] Monkey business

2010-05-28 Thread dark
Technically, a review is a review where you show off a bit of the game and
discuss it's good and bad points, possibly influencing others to play
or buy it.

What you are talking about is an audio walkthru such as the ones Raul Made.

That's a rather different matter, and not really the province of reviewers
like Kelly Sepergia, sinse, obviously people eget to see the hole game
and indeed get the plot slightly spoilt.

avoid the heavy rocks? Should I press the action key, or jump. And, I am

I use windows media player, I wish there was a way of downloading it to studio
recorder or so. Who says that any game reviewer is supposed to show only the
first part of all games, and leave the rest? I have listened to a few reviews.
I found a good one about Super Liam which is a demo, and they recorded
everything in different sections.

Hitting the link will stream the program, and going forward to track three

I'd be interested to see what he'd make of time of conflict, if

Hi,
Um...Level 2 is the jungle level. To leave the jungle you have to
climb the wall of vines to reach the ledges above.
If you are on the Aztec temple level you have to jump over the acid
pits to get to the temple. That's a lot easier said than done though.

Hi,
Um...Level 2 is the jungle level. To leave the jungle you have to
climb the wall of vines to reach the ledges above.
If you are on the Aztec temple level you have to jump over the acid
pits to get to the temple. That's a lot easier said than done though.

That's actually level five. You must be playing the demo. But take two steps
to the right before you jump your first acid pit. That will put you in a
position where you can just walk the trail without having to worry about the
snakes. There are four pits, two having three mud steps and two having only
two. When you get to the last mud step, jump over the pit.

Hi Sky,
No, that is a known bug in the later releases of Monkey Business. It
skips level 6 from time to time and Draconis Entertainment isn't sure
why this happens. They haven't removed the level, but for some reason
the newer releases of the game has this bug. If you can downgrade to an
older release that doesn't have this bug I would.

List. I've just got my key for Monkey Business. However, there is one
thing about the game. After completeing the aztek temple level, the game
seems to skip level 6, the wild west level, and begins level 7. Has the
wild west level been removed? Because it doesn't show up as one of the

Hi,
Hmmm... That is strange. I wonder why they would remove it from the
mbmaps.esp archive. In any case I can look around for my packaging tool
and repackage the esp archive with that file once I locate my tools for
it. Assuming, of course, that that turns out to be the problem it could
be an easy fix.

Re: [Audyssey] monkey Business

Hi Hayri,
That is a well known bug in the latest releases of Monkey Business.
Draconis Entertainment is aware of the problem, but can't effectively
reproduce and fix that bug. If you have the bug i recommend downgrading
to an earlier release before said bug started appearing.

Hayri,

If you're referring to the Wild West level, which I believe is level 6, I
don't believe you can access that level at the moment. I read somewhere
recently that there is a bug which makes that level inaccessible.

If you're asking how to beat the Aztec temple, that's a different story.

Re: [Audyssey] Monkey Business on the Laptop?

2007-12-30 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi,
As both a paid user of Monkey Business and a laptop user a laptop
keyboard would be very very nice. As it is now the game is a little
difficult to play on my laptop computer.
I can play it, but finding the proper keys is nowhere as easy as it is
on a full sized desktop keyboard.

Re: [Audyssey] Monkey Business on the Laptop?

2007-12-30 Thread Sarah Haake
Hi,

yes, I would be very interested in a laptop layout for the game. I only have
a laptop available and it would be great to be able to play the game with a
keyboard layout for it.

I hope that this feature will be included in the game.

Greetings
Sarah

Re: [Audyssey] Monkey Business on the Laptop?

2007-12-30 Thread Phil Vlasak
Hi Folks,
I played games on a laptop for years but I also purchased a plug in standard
keyboard for $10 when the game hot keys were not easy to use on the laptop.
Most lap tops have a standard keyboard socket in the back or side for this
reason.

Re: [Audyssey] Monkey Business on the Laptop?

2007-12-30 Thread Kuvvosh
Well there is a way to fix all this. And I'm not being rude about it, so
don't take it the wrong way lol. Next time when getting a laptop get a full
size one, not a half one. I got so fed up of having a half one that I sold
the thing and got a full size laptop. Yea, I know they are longer and
stuff. But, they got better performance then these little ones do.

Or, you can go and get a USB keyboard if you want to play games with it, I
done that for awhile but, just annoying to carry another thing.

Peace.

I personally feel vry strongly that there should be one. As I said in
another topic there are certain game functions I an't perform on my laptop,
namely turnin to face the opposite direction and even a few scanning
functions, that i can't perform either because of the way laptop keyboards
are designed and their lack of certain features such as Number Pads.
