There is. It's called Formel 1 Spirit. There are no other cars to race against, so it gets boring after a while, but the driving physics are spot on as far as I can tell. Also it's not the most accessible game in the world, that's for sure. The dev knows, and maybe we'll see something new soon? I think the biggest issue I have with every racing game I've played is that when you turn the wheel or whatever, you simply slide in the direction you turn. I am longing for a game that uses real driving mechanics. What I mean is, if you're driving down a straightaway and there's a left turn coming up, you turn left. Then you go out of the turn, and chances are that in the real world you wouldn't be facing exactly down the street. My girl friend has this game on her windows xp and, is having problems with her track that I helped her make but, it is not showing up with in the game. She has it saved under c:\program files\playinginthedark\topspeed3\track. She also has her wave file in the same location. I even had her drop box me a copy of her trk file to make sure it was right. Hi, Does she have a lot of other tracks installed as well? there's a limit on how many you can have. I believe it's 50. I never liked that limit. I always felt that it could have been raised to at least a hundred. there are a lot of great cars and tracks that I've wanted to try, but never have because of the fact that the game can't recognize all the ones that are installed. I didn't tell you what to do to fix it specifically that is, 3d sound off hardware on, because it's not the same. I have to use different combinations on different computers. Kind of frustrating. Hi. this is a common bug that can be fixed by messing around with 3d sound and direct sound hardware acceleration. Changing them around will eventually bring out a setting that works. Corrected Subject Line: Hello guys, Whilst in a game of Top Speed, something occurred to me as being something quite interesting to those of you who have a passion for communication other than casual means. I wondered why I did not think of it before. I was in a mufti-player race. You all know that the space bar acts like a horn, right? Well, I discovered that you can send messages over the wire by tapping on the bar as if it were a telegraph key. I thought it was a really interesting way to communicate, and I found the process to be quite slow, as the players of course did not know what Morse code is. I do not know if this has already been suggested, but is it possible that there could be chat communications, such as those set in Acefire, where one could type a message for all players to see, and it could read something like, Player X says: Message. Anyhow, I thought I might point this out. This was with Top Speed III by the way. On a side note here: My friends and I are finding out that when you are using a computer that is receiving internet from a router, you cannot host a game, but if you are on a computer that is on a LAN connection, and also broadcasting the wireless signal, then you can host games. Alfredo, It is possible to play top speed even if you're behind a router. If the host is behind a router they simply need to forward the correct port, and the process for doing this varies slightly depending on the configuration of the router. I've played with friends, and the host was behind a router. If you're all on the same network then obviously none of that needs to be done. As far as your suggestion, I do agree that would be a nice feature - perhaps they'll add it in a future release. [Audyssey] top speed driving
Hi Everyone, Just tried a game of top speed3. I think instead of driving I should rename myself to crashing, because I sure did that a lot. I was hoping for some driving tips so I could limit my crashing. First of all, is it better to play ts3 with keyboard or steering wheel? If the latter, which kind should I get? I am also assuming automatic transmission is better for newbie driver/crashers like me? Tips appreciated, I don't think my stomach could take any more of the self murth that I was doing, it was helarious and I was the one doing the crashing, definitely lost a lot from the time when I could see and play the old atari pole position. Hi, Yes, automatic transmission is recommended if you're just starting out, it means you don't have to worry about so many keys. I find that driving using the keyboard is easier than using a steering wheel, but the latter is certainly possible. I tested the game using a cheap Sweex steering wheel with force-feedback, and it worked reasonably well, it just is something to get used to. Also, there are a few settings in the Options menu that change when and how curves are announced, perhaps you get better results with different settings. We did set them up to suit the majority of people, but they're there for a reason. All three are in fact the same game, but version 2 has less features than version 3, and version 1 is completely outdated. Actually they do work but you have to modify a couple of lines to make them work. The info on what to do is in their manual. [Audyssey] Top Speed Server Crashing
I was wondering if other people are having this trouble or if I need something I don't have yet on my rebuild of win-xp. When I tell top speed to connect to a server on the internet or when someone connects to me it lets me select my car just fine but as soon as I connect or the other person connects to me top speed crashes. Anyone have any thoughts on what I might check? I've got directX9 and net framework3.5. I do have some custom cars installed and I wonder if it could be that? I'll try another install with just the default stuff they supply and see if that fixes the issue. Any ideas are welcome. Before I rebuilt windows it ran fine on servers. Thanks. I killed all the custom cars and tracks and reinstalled top speed and it's defaults work just fine so I guess it's one of the cars or tracks making the server crash. the issue is also timezones and connections. Right now in summer here in nz I am bored. Timezones are not all though, its to hot to do anything after midday here. In fact I am up this early in the morning about 4am so I can get some work done. by 1 pm I won't have the energy to get out of my chair, I won't even have the energy to seriously hack any code or anything togeter. In fact if converting the topspeed vehicles was hard than it was I probably wouldn't have been bothered at all. Going back on to the online thing. I have a good ish connection but I have had bad ones and there is nothing like bing disconnected just when you want to move. Bandwidth is another. The days of unlimited flatrates are over. You pay per gb of data, 2 bucks with a base package of so much and maybe addon blocks, then you pay or go to dialup. Most of my bandwidth is used for downloads, gaming, updates, audio drama, scifi books pdodcasts, the list goes on. As you can see that exceeds on ocation my allowed bandwidth. So gaming on top of that, hmmm. Then there is actual time I can spend vs time I take to do things life wise. Lately with it being so hot I have found it necessary to get stuff done I would need to, it always happens I have a big plan what to do, but never have the time to do it all. Maybe planned games I may try to get but may not, sertainly instant gaming is not likely. I have rsclient and railracer but I just don't have time to play them anymore or at least right now. is that patch on the download page I never saw it. To clarify this for everybody, after the release of Top Speed 3 a few people reported bugs, that we would usually fix within a day or so. However, not all bug fixes and new features get posted immediately, because of the fuss of compiling a new installer and all that. Therefore, I am posting interim releases to RubyAccess.com. These are the things we'd normally send to our beta-testers, and they are meant for people who had issues, to see if we successfully resolved them. They are not installers, just the main TopSpeed.exe file. Hello! Also, please keep in mind that we're not forcing you to use this configuration file to put JAWS into sleep mode (and neither are we forcing you to use JAWS in the first place). To us it merely seemed that having to disable your screenreader to play a game is a very crude way of doing things. In truth I can't believe they put a whole config file with the game for the express purpose of putting JAWS to sleep? As I stated in a previous post, nobody is forcing you or anyone to use the configuration file. I mean, of course we didn't have to include it, it's just a nice and helpful bonus. Next release we may also not include shortcuts in the Start menu, for if you truly master your Windows Explorer or Run dialog, why would we! Hello Davy. I can't test this right now during the day, but I would imagine that if a Window-Eyes user has keyboard voice on and arrow speaking on, maybe it will speak. This is all explained in the manual... It's not a JAWS script. It's a configuration file to put JAWS to sleep. Rather than putting JAWS to sleep, uninstall if from memory with insert f4 before starting any game. It will then have absolutely no affect on the game. You don't really. For n = 0 To joyCaps.lButtons - 1 If js.Buttons(n) 0 Then So this looks for which of the 10 buttons has been pressed. I do have some trouble in using the second stick on a game pad. Don't know why I can not find it when I check for stick movement. I don't know if it's just me, but Top Speed 3 seems to have issues with game pads that have a lot of buttons, which is frustrating since it has plenty of assignable functions, and there's currently no way to bypass a particular assignment. This means you get stuck during controller configuration, and have to escape out without being able to commit the changes. My Logitech Rumblepad II, for example, will only allow me to assign functions to buttons 1 through 4, the POV hat, and the right analog axis. I can understand the analog axis issue, but not the inability for the program to assign functions to buttons 5 through 12. I was told this is a DirectX issue, but seeing as Windows itself recognizes all the buttons and axis's in the test applet, and seeing as I can successfully use all buttons and axis's in EPSXE and other emulators, I sincerely wonder if such is the case. Anyone able to enlighten me on this issue?
