Re: [Audyssey] Top Speed 4? Other Racing Games
There is. It's called Formel 1 Spirit. There are no other cars to race against, so it gets boring after a while, but the driving physics are spot on as far as I can tell. Also it's not the most accessible game in the world, that's for sure. The dev knows, and maybe we'll see something new soon? Check out my games at www.ThePionEar.net and my music, and that of my band, at www.ThePionEar.net/BlindLabyrinth.html . Also, check out, "The Believer and Skeptic Show," at iTunes! Is this game still under development--is there ever going to be a TS 4? I think the biggest issue I have with every racing game I've played is that when you turn the wheel or whatever, you simply slide in the direction you turn. I am longing for a game that uses real driving mechanics. What I mean is, if you're driving down a straightaway and there's a left turn coming up, you turn left. Then you go out of the turn, and chances are that in the real world you wouldn't be facing exactly down the street. You would find yourself drifting to one side of the road or the other as often as not, unless your aim was perfect. Also, I've been told that little bumps and imperfections in the road alter your course too. I used to put my hands on the wheel when Dad drove, and he was always making tiny course adjustments. Finally, the last thing I'd like to see in TS4 if it ever comes out is the ability to pass other cars. That is, once you've done a complete lap around them you should be able to catch up to and pass them again. This is one of the things I like about Jim Kitchen's original Mach1 game, and would love to see it in TS4. By the way, these features are present in Crazy Drivers, but it's not really a racing game. As soon as I can get joystick/wheel support, I'll release the alpha to you all... but then I'm going to take a time out and learn VB.net and XAudio2 if I can. Hi. this is a common bug that can be fixed by messing around with 3d sound and direct sound hardware acceleration. Changing them around will eventually bring out a setting that works. Re: [Audyssey] Top Speed Discovery
Alfredo, It is possible to play top speed even if you're behind a router. If the host is behind a router they simply need to forward the correct port, and the process for doing this varies slightly depending on the configuration of the router. I've played with friends, and the host was behind a router. If you're all on the same network then obviously none of that needs to be done. As far as your suggestion, I do agree that would be a nice feature - perhaps they'll add it in a future release. Re: [Audyssey] top speed driving
Hi, Yes, automatic transmission is recommended if you're just starting out, it means you don't have to worry about so many keys. I find that driving using the keyboard is easier than using a steering wheel, but the latter is certainly possible. I tested the game using a cheap Sweex steering wheel with force-feedback, and it worked reasonably well, it just is something to get used to. Also, there are a few settings in the Options menu that change when and how curves are announced, perhaps you get better results with different settings. We did set them up to suit the majority of people, but they're there for a reason. hi david. yes you certainly can create tracks and cars, there's documentation on how to do it in the manual I believe. As far as I can work out, ts1 is just if you want a simple racing game without complexity and choice in tracks, and ts2 is stil needed to use vehicles created in ts2. ts3 however I believe can run all the ts2 tracks pluss the ts3 ones, so you should probably try that. I could be wrong, and of course if someone wants to correct me feel free, as I said I'm trying to sort all this out to write up propper descriptions, sinse currently only ts1 has a satisfactory database entry, and ts3 doesn't have one at all! Re: [Audyssey] top speed versions
Hello, Thanks, that was what I was leaning toward, I was just wondering if i'd be missing something with 2, but I'll grab 3. Second question, alternative play methods, I'm going to be given either a steering wheel or joystick as a birthday present, and I'm wondering which to ask for. If anyone is using ts3 with a wheel what are your impressions of it and would you recommend it and why? Thanks. Dave. Hello, You should of course take latest version: topspeed 3. You really have no reason to use an old one. All three are in fact the same game, but version 2 has less features than version 3, and version 1 is completely outdated. Version 3 added to version 2 additionnal vehicles and tracks, and the ability to play custom tracks in multiplayers, as well as many bugfixes especially for multiplayer. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. [Audyssey] Top Speed Server Crashing
I was wondering if other people are having this trouble or if I need something I don't have yet on my rebuild of win-xp. When I tell top speed to connect to a server on the internet or when someone connects to me it lets me select my car just fine but as soon as I connect or the other person connects to me top speed crashes. Anyone have any thoughts on what I might check? I've got directX9 and net framework3.5. I do have some custom cars installed and I wonder if it could be that? I'll try another install with just the default stuff they supply and see if that fixes the issue. Any ideas are welcome. Before I rebuilt windows it ran fine on servers. Thanks. Re: [Audyssey] Top speed, sugestion
the issue is also timezones and connections. Right now in summer here in nz I am bored. Timezones are not all though, its to hot to do anything after midday here. In fact I am up this early in the morning about 4am so I can get some work done. by 1 pm I won't have the energy to get out of my chair, I won't even have the energy to seriously hack any code or anything togeter. In fact if converting the topspeed vehicles was hard than it was I probably wouldn't have been bothered at all. Going back on to the online thing. I have a good ish connection but I have had bad ones and there is nothing like bing disconnected just when you want to move. Bandwidth is another. The days of unlimited flatrates are over. You pay per gb of data, 2 bucks with a base package of so much and maybe addon blocks, then you pay or go to dialup. Most of my bandwidth is used for downloads, gaming, updates, audio drama, scifi books pdodcasts, the list goes on. As you can see that exceeds on ocation my allowed bandwidth. So gaming on top of that, hmmm. Then there is actual time I can spend vs time I take to do things life wise. Lately with it being so hot I have found it necessary to get stuff done I would need to, it always happens I have a big plan what to do, but never have the time to do it all. Maybe planned games I may try to get but may not, sertainly instant gaming is not likely. I have rsclient and railracer but I just don't have time to play them anymore or at least right now. I do actually plan not to renew my rr reg since I need to pay once I get my new system because I just don't play it. At 02:48 a.m. 17/01/2011, you wrote: Hi friends. That'd be nice. I only did some brief testing, with a lot of speech disabled (usually I have all of it disabled, so I don't know how realistic my tests were). At any rate, we'll include a WE package to fix the association in the next installer we cook up. - Original Message - From: "Raul A. aah. Thats fine, At 09:22 p.m. 14/01/2011, you wrote: is that patch on the download page I never saw it. To clarify this for everybody, after the release of Top Speed 3 a few people reported bugs, that we would usually fix within a day or so. However, not all bug fixes and new features get posted immediately, because of the fuss of compiling a new installer and all that. Therefore, I am posting "interim releases" to RubyAccess.com. These are the things we'd normally send to our beta-testers, and they are meant for people who had issues, to see if we successfully resolved them. They are not installers, just the main "TopSpeed.exe" file. Re: [Audyssey] Top Speed 3 and Jaws scripts?
In truth I can't believe they put a whole config file with the game for the express purpose of putting JAWS to sleep? As I stated in a previous post, nobody is forcing you or anyone to use the configuration file. I mean, of course we didn't have to include it, it's just a nice and helpful bonus. Next release we may also not include shortcuts in the Start menu, for if you truly master your Windows Explorer or Run dialog, why would we! It's more convenient this way, though. - Original Message - From: "Hayden Presley" To: "'Gamers Discussion list'" Sent: Friday, January 14, 2011 5:01 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Top Speed 3 and Jaws scripts? Re: [Audyssey] Top Speed 3 and Jaws scripts?
Hello! Also, please keep in mind that we're not forcing you to use this configuration file to put JAWS into sleep mode (and neither are we forcing you to use JAWS in the first place). To us it merely seemed that having to disable your screenreader to play a game is a very crude way of doing things. I guess we use Window-Eyes and SuperNova too much. *laughs* - Original Message - From: "Harmony Neil" To: "'Gamers Discussion list'" Sent: Friday, January 14, 2011 4:49 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Top Speed 3 and Jaws scripts? Re: [Audyssey] top speed 3
is that patch on the download page I never saw it. We will soon be releasing a final, fourth build of the Top Speed 3 installer, that will include all the changes we made after the first release last Tuesday. Top Speed can do that with joystick buttons, and possibly more, as well. But it would appear that the input manager had some issues (we don't touch that code too often). Hi Kai, In VB6 and DirectX 8.1 I can look for up to 10 buttons. That is button 0 through 9. I don't know if it's just me, but Top Speed 3 seems to have issues with game pads that have a lot of buttons, which is frustrating since it has plenty of assignable functions, and there's currently no way to bypass a particular assignment. This means you get stuck during controller configuration, and have to escape out without being able to commit the changes. My Logitech Rumblepad II, for example, will only allow me to assign functions to buttons 1 through 4, the POV hat, and the right analog axis. I can understand the analog axis issue, but not the inability for the program to assign functions to buttons 5 through 12. I was told this is a DirectX issue, but seeing as Windows itself recognizes all the buttons and axis's in the test applet, and seeing as I can successfully use all buttons and axis's in EPSXE and other emulators, I sincerely wonder if such is the case. [Audyssey] Top Speed 3 Released!
- Introducing Top Speed version 3.0 - Final - * http://www.PlayingInTheDark.net/ http://www.RubyAccess.com/ Want an HTML-version of this announcement? http://www.playinginthedark.net/downloads/ts30_man_en.html#11 * Playing in the Dark and Ruby AccessWare are proud to present Top Speed version 3.0 - the final release of the popular, accessible freeware racing game that uses only audio and an optional force-feedback joystick to communicate with the player. As with the prior version of Top Speed, this new version includes a multi-player mode, up to seven computer opponents to race against, and the ability to create your own tracks and vehicles. However, there are also some exciting new features, and numerous bug fixes and improvements which will be discussed in this official release announcement. Note 1: This version of Top Speed contains some changes to the way in which vehicle files are read which means that vehicle files written for earlier versions of the game are incompatible with this release. Please see section 1.4.1 below for more information. This does not apply to custom tracks written for older versions of the game, these will continue to be compatible with this release. Note 2: Be sure to also read Section 2.1, as it describes a number of minor yet interesting new features and hotkeys. = Table of Contents = 1.New features 1.1 New tracks 1.2 New vehicles 1.2.1 The user vehicle contest 1.2.2 Other new vehicles 1.3 Additions and changes to custom tracks 1.3.1 New syntax for track files 1.3.2 New surfaces 1.3.3 New sounds 1.3.4 New ambiences 1.3.5 New weather types 1.4 Additions and changes to custom vehicles 1.4.1 New syntax for vehicle files 1.4.2 New parameters 1.4.3 Backfire 1.5 New language and soundpack features 1.5.1 Switching languages 1.5.2 New folder structure 1.5.3 Providing more variation in soundpacks 1.6 Improved installer 1.7 New hotkeys 1.8 New settings 2.Minor changes, improvements and bug fixes 2.1 Minor changes and improvements 2.2 Bug fixes 3.Known issues 4.Credits and donating 5.Download and contact information 1. New features This section discusses the most significant new features added since Top Speed version 2.0. 1.1 New tracks Top Speed version 3.0 contains the following new tracks: - Brazil, China, Finland, France, Ireland, Portugal, Russia, Switzerland: All new race tracks, varying from easy to surprisingly tough. - Rally through the desert: A long street adventure that can be quite relaxing but also quite dangerous. - Polar escape: A lovely track with only the easiest curves. But is it as easy as it seems? - Rush hour: Drive through a city while the road around you is constantly being worked on, causing a not so welcome distraction. - Several existing street adventures have also been updated, for example to use a new surface type or a new ambient sound. See sections 1.3.2 through 1.3.5 for details on how to use these new features yourself. 1.2 New vehicles This section summarizes the new vehicles introduced with Top Speed versions 2.1 and 3.0. 1.2.1 The user vehicle contest Last year Playing In The Dark asked the accessible gaming community to submit their custom vehicles, promising to include the best in the final release of the game as a built-in vehicle which could be used in all playing modes. The winning car from this contest, the Corola, is now available for everybody to play! Congratulations, Luk Hosnedl! 1.2.2 Other new vehicles Additionally, the following new cars and motorcycles can be used: - Pickup truck: The pickup truck, well known from older Dutch releases, is now back in the game. - The classic: A shiny, fast, four-geared allrounder. - The speedy S3: Another Audi, race with elegance. - The old schoolbus: This is one of the two new vehicles that utilize the new backfire parameter to create a more realistic experience (see section 1.4.3 for details). - Chopper: This new, exciting motorcycle also boasts a custom backfire sound. - Several existing vehicles have also been updated, for example to have a different brake sound. 1.3 Additions and changes to custom tracks If you are a custom track designer, then read this section carefully to learn about the various new and changed features related to track building. Note: As opposed to older custom vehicles, custom tracks made for Top Speed version 2.0 will still work with this new release. 1.3.1 New syntax for track files To make the process of creating a custom track more flexible, Top Speed version 3.0 allows writing a track's parameters in four columns as opposed to the old three-column system. A column is defined the same as in other types of tables. For example, the following row contains t
