I did this myself; 2.6 x86 after 2.8 x64 onto w7 x64.
It even remembered all my old settings for 2.6.12, but forgot my most recently
opened xcf files. I don't know if it will work with the same target machine
type though, I suppose you might be able to select a different install
directory.

Yes i did, in fact there are 3 entries:
Fedora 17 is available as a pre release (which I'm running with no
problems) and GIMP is available from the Fedora repo and I haven't had
any problems with it (yet).

I own a Wacom Pen & Touch tablet. I use the PEN capabilities extensively, and
I'm happy with it; but still have not found any use for the TOUCH part.

Colours->colourise with an active selection (possibly a feathered
selection) will probably be closest to the photobucket editor.
As others suggested you can also use a second layer.

Here's my point of view: every sane app out there uses "Save", "Save as..." and
"Export" for a conventional and now well assumed behaviour:
“Save” means “overwrite the original file”, period (it turns itself into "Save
as..." when the file is new and has never been saved).
