You should probably have e-mailed Tony Paloma directly (I would had, but I
was commuting to work during the hour I was gone, and now there is no point
in e-mailing). But now that the genie is out of the bottle, yes that is the
exploit i was talking about.

Re: [hlds] Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike: Source, Day of Defeat: Source and Half-Life 2: Deathmatch Updates Released

2011-12-16 Thread Andrew DeMerse
It's so prevalent and easy to come across, even on accident, that it's best
to let server admins know about it. When I sent the mail, it was already
posted on SPUF and making it's usual rounds. I'm sure someone could code up
a plugin that prevents revenge crits on the FJ (maybe in tf2 items, haven't
had a chance to mess with it), but it's easy enough to just disable the
weapon, and cut the head off before people come in and destroy your server.

2011-12-16 Thread lwf
One of the new achievement is gained when you kill a player using a
crit as the victim is capping. It was found and reported independently
by the very first two players that joined our cp_foundry server trying
to get that achievement, only 15 minutes after the server was started
and 2 hours after your mail. It's not exactly obscure. Running the
plugin since, you did the right thing.

2011-12-15 Thread Andrew DeMerse
Since it's so ridiculously easy to reproduce, even on accident, I'll
outline it.

Equip the frontier justice
Drop a sentry (mini is easiest, obviously)
Once it gets 1 assist or kill, destroy it
Use up your revenge crits

You now have unlimited crits for every equipped item until you die. Pistol,
wrench, and shotgun.

Right now, the solution is to ban the frontier justice until Valve can fix
it.

I'm using this with sourcemod

[hlds] Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike: Source, Day of Defeat: Source and Half-Life 2: Deathmatch Updates Released

2011-10-13 Thread Jason Ruymen
Required updates for Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike: Source, Day of Defeat:
Source and Half-Life 2: Deathmatch are now available. Counter-Strike: Source
has also been moved to use its own engine and dedicated server depots. Because
of this, dedicated server files for Counter-Strike: Source will now be under a
'css' folder.

The specific changes include:

Source Engine Changes (CS:S, DoD:S, TF2, HL2:DM)
- Fixed an issue with the multi-threaded renderer which could cause a crash on
map change
- Adjusted whitespace to improve formatting in status command output
- Changed stats output to show KB/s instead of bytes/sec, added a connections
column, and changed the users column to Map changes
- Fixed game servers not being able to execute the retry command due to the
dependence on the connect command (which is not executable by game servers)
- Made sndplaydelay executable by servers
- Server frame rate is now based on the tickrate of the active Source mod, not
the fps_max convar
- Server processing delays have been reduced, especially for servers on modern
Linux kernels
- Entity processing logic has been optimized to significantly reduce CPU usage
on full servers
- Multi-threaded server code is now enabled by default under Linux (already
enabled on Windows)
- An exploit with non-printable characters causing lag on Windows servers has
been fixed
- CPU is fully yielded back to the system whenever the server is running faster
than the tickrate
- Dramatic increase in performance for low-level math libraries

Day of Defeat: Source
- Removed tickrate command line parameter
- Updated the localization files

Counter-Strike: Source
- Prevent AWP cycle time exploit using quick switch
- Fixed bug causing HUD History to display item pickups from nearby players
- Increased sized of HUD History resource to prevent clipping
- Changed grenade damage so that it always hits HITGROUP_GENERIC and takes into
account armor for damage calculations
- Reduced standing and moving accuracy for pistols
- Decreased accuracy while moving with sniper rifles
- Added additional legacy mode (3) to cl_dynamiccrosshair
- Updated the localization files

Team Fortress 2
Manniversary:
- Experimenting with a new store interface with a subset of players
- Added several dozen community items in celebration of the Manniversary
- Added loadout presets -- each class can now store four complete loadouts,
including weapons and cosmetic items, and change between them with the press of
a button.
- Added a new item type that can accept user-applied decals. Take any image off
your hard drive, put it on a stick, and then smash people with it! (See the
Decal Tool in the store!)
- Added new co-operative high five taunt
- Class select menu now shows the active loadout for each class
- Characters can now equip two misc-slot items at once
- Added a new in-game abuse-reporting system (see Capture abuse report data
under Miscellaneous controls)
- Non-newly-released weapons in the store can now be tried out for free once
per week! This will give you a fully-functional version of the weapon to be
used in-game for no cost. If you decide you like it, you can purchase it for a
discount during the trial period.
- All items purchased in the store can be used for crafting and can be traded
after a few days
- Added a new startup music track from Meet The Medic
- Integrated with the new Steam Workshop to enable the publication and
management of community contributed content

Maps:
- Added new community control point map Gullywash. Stamps are available in the
store to support community map authors!
- Barnblitz is now available for offline practice
- Frontier: various geometry fixes
- Gorge/5Gorge: added team-specific func_nobuild brushes in elevated forward
spawn areas

Replay:
- New camera shake functionality added for replays that are not sufficiently
dramatic
- New slow-motion functionality added for replays where even camera shake does
not provide sufficient drama
- Added support for recording voice chat into replays

Items:
- Pocket Medic can now be equipped by the Soldier in addition to the Heavy
- World Traveler's Hat and the Connoisseur's Cap are now paintable
- Bonk Boy and Foster's Facade are now misc slot items
- Fixed The Director's Vision not playing animations correctly for all classes
in the loadout screen
- The Killer Exclusive is now paintable
- When sorting the backpack, otherwise-equivalent items will sort by strange
weapon rank and crate series number if possible
- When selecting items from the loadout, weapons with different kill eater
ranks will all show up
- Hat of Undeniable Wealth And Respect animations have been added. Really.
- LOD models added to several older cosmetic items

Response Rules:
- Reduced the chance of many response lines occurring
- Responses related to cart progress no longer play when disguised
- Players will now always call for a medic when low on health or when on fire
when a medic is under the

Re: [hlds] Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike: Source, Day of Defeat: Source and Half-Life 2: Deathmatch Updates Released

2011-10-13 Thread Mart-Jan Reeuwijk
Since this big update, with closing the TF2 client, the screen stays black
(with full screen), had to use power button to restart.

sorry to see my planes goggles / bonk boy clipping combo go with it. Think it
should be up to the user what item combo's he'd want, even if it clips.

I really hope with this that LOD will be added to all hats/misc's now, cos its
now 3 items with a additive XX poly's that ppl can trow in the game to
others. It was promised long ago to get 'm all done. Are the new items already
with LOD?

Seems the better idea: require/demand LOD on any new item to be added, and add
LOD to any older item in batches (highest count first). Otherwise it will
always be running far behind.

Re: [hlds] Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike: Source, Day of Defeat: Source and Half-Life 2: Deathmatch Updates Released

2011-09-17 Thread hlds
I have a TF2 linux server and I don't see the dumplongticks console command. Is
this only for Windows builds?

If I enable the dumps from command line using -dumplongticks argument, server's
console is spammed with Long tick after tick... messages, but no files are
saved. From what I see LongTickWatcherThread calls WriteMiniDump, but this
function is empty. Am I missing something?

Ya, it can be used for that. It will create up to 10 assert_*.mdmp files in
the working directory for each long tick (and thus you shouldn’t leave it on
without monitoring otherwise you could get a ton of dumps in your directory
over time). You can also enable/disable it from the console using the
“dumplongticks” command.

But if the server is completely hung, you can just generate a dump from
taskmanager (the 32-bit one) or Visual Studio (or gdb on linux). You can send
me or JonL a link to any dump file you suspect caused by replay.

2011-09-17 Thread Tony Paloma
Ya the minidumps only work on Windows. It shouldn't be spamming your console
though, but I found some issues on Linux that may have made it more spammy than
it should be. I'll fix that, but it won't matter since it's not writing dumps
anyways.

I'll see if I can get it to use breakpad to write minidumps on Linux.

Ya, it can be used for that. It will create up to 10 assert_*.mdmp files in the
working directory for each long tick (and thus you shouldn't leave it on
without monitoring otherwise you could get a ton of dumps in your directory
over time). You can also enable/disable it from the console using the
dumplongticks command.

But if the server is completely hung, you can just generate a dump from
taskmanager (the 32-bit one) or Visual Studio (or gdb on linux). You can send
me or JonL a link to any dump file you suspect caused by replay.

Cow mangler still needs a nerf, I don't get why a soldier would be able
to ignite people and deal fire damage on his own...
This is a gameplay centric observation, completely ignoring the fact
that this Dr. Grordbort's pack is the stupidest and most damaging cross
promotion the TF team has pulled. Do they not care at all about game
design anymore? Why not discontinue the product entirely rather than
keep hashing out updates that totally ruin the look and feel of the
game. I mean the model doesn't look even remotely like something that
would exist in the TF environment, it's a glaringly obvious problem for
that reason alone. Are the standards for community content just going to
get lower and lower as time goes on?

A server or client variable to disable weapon level-up announcements would
also be most welcome. Universally disabling pop-ups is somewhat broad.

[hlds] Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike: Source, Day of Defeat: Source and Half-Life 2: Deathmatch Updates Released

2011-05-09 Thread Jason Ruymen
Optional updates to Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike: Source, Day of Defeat:
Source and Half-Life 2: Deathmatch are now available. Please run
hldsupdatetool to receive the updates. The specific changes include:

Source Engine Changes (CS:S, DoD:S, TF2, HL2:DM)
- Fixed a client crash in the material system.

Team Fortress 2
- Replay publishing system will try to do a rename for local HTTP mode but will
manually copy and delete the file if the rename fails, which can happen if the
source and destination are on different volumes.
- Fixed threading issues on Linux, which was causing major lag spikes.
- Fixed replay data cleanup system, which cleans up stale data at the end of
each round.  This asynchronous operation can be explicitly invoked by executing
a replay_docleanup command on the server.
- Removed unused convar, replay_cleanup_time.
- Saxxy fanfare music wasn't playing on music channel.  Music will only play
once per launch now and will not play on a changelevel.

Re: [hlds] Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike: Source, Day of Defeat: Source and Half-Life 2: Deathmatch Updates Released

2011-05-06 Thread Dominik Friedrichs

If this hasnt been mentioned yet:

CS:S servers crash whenever clients issue the kill command, such as
joining spectator while being alive, changing teams while being alive, etc.

Temporary and crude fix seems to be just overwriting the function at
offset server.dll+0x0029A170 to always return 8.

Also, in cstrike_german.txt and several other languages
Cstrike_playerid_diffteam is still missing the player name %s2

So when one aims at an enemy, one only sees their clan tag.

Re: [hlds] Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike: Source, Day of Defeat: Source and Half-Life 2: Deathmatch Updates Released

2011-05-06 Thread Mart-Jan Reeuwijk
Didn't have to enable it on the servers I'm managing yet, but heard from others
they experience mayor lag on servers where they did enable it. Some have
reverted and disabled it for this reason. Have yet to try out on a full server.

Nice to have such an update, but with all the run-up problems of any update,
its not handy to set up such a competition right away. Especially with such a
short deadline.

I have a question about clientside demos that and don't know where else to
ask... is there a way to retrieve the server ip from a clientside demo?
This particular demo is for L4D2...
