Valve could block wallhacks and speedhacks with some server side code if
they wanted to.

There isn't just that. But I mentioned it since it was what was being
discussed.
A lot of things get broken in cheats when you use this plugin.
But it does cause
I think they could do even more, but in the end the impact on servers on

I can recall from the hlds times that we used to have an anti-wall hack
extention or plugin which was quite low on load. What it did was it simply
didn't send any information about clients that were not visible from your point
of view. Can't figure out what the name was though, it was one of
This is already done with DBlocker and multithreaded:
http://dblocker.didrole.com/
The multithreading only works on Windows though, as Valve disabled the CPU
detection code on Linux, so it's just like the servers always start with
-threads 1. If you got a linux server you can add the -threads
Dear Valve:
Whats the CS:GO server requirements? The cpu usage is like a tf2 server?
Any news about the CS:GO dedicated server beta release date(i heard
somewhere its in october)?
The engine(the one in portal 2?) will still use only one core in a
dedicated server?
Best regards

I just read something very dissapointing, something I am not used to from
VALVe. VALVe going EA (ranked/unranked) server style?
CS:GO will permit hosting your own servers, however they won't be included in
the matchmaking system. Only servers from VALVe itself will be included (thus

well, its normal, they cant control plugins in dedicated servers and
fake statistics. Also, EA has a trusted partner program and ONLY allow
ranked servers, used to allow unranked in bf2,bf2142 but not anymore. To
become ea trusted partner is a hell and they ignore almost any request.

The amount of cheating would make the whole matchmaking idea useless.
Imagine if Blizzard would allow arbitrary people to run
battle.netservers... *cringe*

The abillity to host unranked is still there, and is being continued with BF3
(info was released somewhere last few days).
The difference here is, with EA you can at least rent ranked servers(Never
thought I'd name that as a Pre, cause I hate EA's way of doing business and

Yes, you can create unranked servers if you are a in the EA trusted
partner program... and thats pointless.

Not to say the various gameplay affecting mods. Imagine two teams wanting to

BF2 ranked servers were easy enough to run. You could only set a few server
cvars and you
were very limited to what extra files you could add (modmanager)

I'd have to agree with the modded ranking servers being privately hosted to
be invalid for global ranking, those could cheat the system etc.
Downsides on having only GPS partners or valve hosting them:
- nobody banning cheaters, hackers, farmers, unfriendlies etc.
- Lets face it, VAC isn't
Do people even want global rankings? I may not be most people, but I
typically find a good server and only play there. The individual server
seems like the correct place to have rankings maintained, not globally
across all servers.

Maybe it might end up being similar to the way TF2 quickplay registered
servers are, just more restricted.
A Counter-Strike game where matchmaking is the focus us of play without any
community servers will be interesting.
It's a perfect thing for hackers. Already they go on Valve's TF2 servers to
As i read the testers messages who were @ Valve hq testing it out and
talking with the developers, there are 2 modes. The competitive 5vs5
which uses the matchmaking + rank and the regular public players aimed
mode (like cs1.6/css is today on larger servers). The ranking means

This is how I understood the situation. The 5v5 ranking servers are
going to be the ones where rank matters and therefore should be on
decent hardware. If you actually wanted to enjoy the game you can
still run a server for more than 10 people.
You don't want people who take CS seriously
Just found this IGN video, worth a look for getting your doubts gone

Consoles are only 5vs5 matches, pc too unless you want bigger fights
that are possible on pc only.

Sv_cheats is for godmode, noclip, etc. Cheat codes. And often useful for
debugging. These are not the hacks being spoken of.

I have been in communication with someone from valve for about two weeks
regarding this issue.
They are supposed to only go up to SSE2 according to the gentleman I spoke
to.
They have been working on the issue.

That's a shame for consoles. But if MM is only 5v5, there will still be a
huge push towards the community, which is quite alright with me. The state
of Quickplay on TF2 is disgusting.

I don't run a popular server (Team Fortress 2, according to
GameTracker we are ranked in the 95th percentile, but I can't say I've
seen more than 10 hackers in the few years I've been running it. We
also have very minimum administration, and I don't know why some
servers get it worse than others.
